Dec 31, 2011I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate?I ran ESet security and it found and deleted two infections in Appdata/roaming - (I noted that it was reading trial mode at the bottom of the windows screen which I never noticed before but at least that was when it was still functioning. I restarted the computer, was welcomed by the Asus menu screen first and then when it goes to load windows, it says "loading windows files" and then goes to the automatic repair feature. It says corrupt file in problem details and proceeds to conclude that it can't fix it. In the advanced features, I have tried the startup repair with no luck, the system restore with no luck - tried all restore points listed and after many many 30 min intervals, it comes back that it cannot restore to the previous state. There are no disk images and no memory problems. Command Prompt will run (although one time it did not and simply shut down). I booted from DVD and tried repair from that with no more luck than before, however, did find it strange that when it looked for the windows installation it found one called windows and one called Microsoft Windows - same partition size, all details the same, not sure what's up with that.
I followed the info under Windows cannot start/.exe files cannot run forum up until ubunto is concerned something about the cd and usb running I can get it to make the mbr.bin file but can't get it to recognize the usb to put it on to check it out or the balance of what's next? Also, at the Automatic System repair it reads:

It doesn't identify an actual corrupt file name it says it can't determine the root of the problem.Tried to run Windows 7 upgrade from the disk but because I'm not in windows that won't work and also because I'm running SP1 and I don't have the disk for SP1.I've downloaded Unetbootin and Ubontu but don't know how to work them to get things fixed I've also tried unloading the windows update cache but still nothing because prior to this problem it was failing on all windows updates and have noticed other people comment that that was their problem - still no luck.

Windows Explorer Stopped Working Even After Virus Scans
Sep 7, 2010as the post title suggests, i have had system problems since removing Antimalware Doctor. no trace of the virus seems to be on my computer but i still get the error message that Windows Explorer has stopped working. i have read other threads and followed the instructions as well as trying the suggestion of sfc.exe but when i try to open sfc.exe a CMD window pops up for a split second then quits and nothing else appears to happen. is there anything else i can try?

It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines. However I believe that the virus has corrupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where I can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool.
When I try to run the system repair tool I know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ultimately restore my computer. Unfortunately it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I just want a virus free computer. My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files.

In safe mode I can not re-install a virus checker. Dec 28, 2010My Acer 7736Z-4809 laptop (pre-installed with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have the Win7 CD) was recently hit with a virus. I constantly got the BSOD "iaStor.sys" and a black screen. Startup Repair at first couldn't complete repair, but when I tried again, it found no errors. Tried System Restore to no avail. Was able to do a System Image Recovery using a backup on an external HD, but none of the programs worked (wanted to use Ad-Aware and Spybot to eliminate the virus). When I clicked on programs on the desktop or Start menu, nothing happened, didn't even get an "Open with." Even in Safe Mode, none of the programs worked.
I checked the Task Mgr, and explorer.exe was still there, but RAID wasn't. Went to Control Panel Programs to uninstall/repair programs, but got message that programs seemed to be already uninstalled...it was like the programs weren't even recognized. Once in awhile when I clicked on IE8 in Windows Explorer (not via desktop shortcut or Start menu), IE8 actually opened, so I downloaded Hijack This and Avast anti-virus, but when I tried to install them, I got the msg: "Installation must be on a local hard drive." Continued to get the "iaStor.sys" BSOD. I read to run Verifier and disable it, so I tried that (not sure if that made things worse).
Tried to do another System Image Recovery, but this time it couldn't recognize the backup on the ext HD. Tried Startup Repair, and it couldn't complete repair. Went to Recovery Management to reset the OS, but my User ID(?) couldn't be found. Decided to do a Factory Install - during "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" I got the error msg: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." Every time I try to restart it, I get the same error msg.
