I was getting a 'disk read error occurred' so I decided to put in my recovery disk to do a startup repair. I hit F8 at the startup and chose my dvd drive, it loads the windows files, but then just hangs on the blue screen with just my cursor. After about 8min, my monitor shuts off.The disk doesn't look to be damaged. Is there an alternative to this problem?

I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet. I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron M5110, I'm using windows 7 ultimate but the recovery Disk is driving me crazy, it keeps on bringing up the out of space warning and then it will only automatically clean up maximum of 2MB. I have read many forums about this and tried everything but nothing seems to work and keeps on filling up the free space automatically. It's affecting the computer's perfomance, it is stopping the internet pages from uploading properly, I cant chat or sign in to Skype, so basically the computer is useless to me except for intertainment. What can I do to solve this problem, I have run out of Ideas and I'm just an amatuer at computers.

I have a bootable usb drive with the windows installation disk that I want to use to run chkdsk on the drive. When I start the computer I get the usual "windows loading files" with grey status bar then the "starting windows" splash screen. Then the screen goes black and I can hear the mechanical drive spinning in my case.

I do have the Driver & Utility Ver.1.0 disk, but I have lost the System recovery disk that was made by the store where I purchased my laptop from. I have tried recurring it using the partition file thing that's on my computer, but I received an error message. Checked disk management it shows all 4 primary partitions used: 200mb (boot), 169gb (C drive), 281gb (D drive), 16.5gb Recovery partition. I tried F9 when booting (nothing) just boots into OS. This setup is completely useless to me. Called Asus ($50.) for install disk they said call Microsoft, call Microsoft ($99. new disk) they said call Asus, I've already paid for Win 7 once and i'll be damned if I pay for it again. I tried to do a recovery from the disk image, but my VISTA volume does not restore. Is there anyway to restore both volumes? When he starts the computer, he gets the following error: "Windows Error Recovery." Searching around online led us to create a system repair disk on my laptop (which also runs Windows 7). When we boot with the disk in the drive, a prompt asking for our language (which is greyed out so we can't change it) and our keyboard (which we can change) appears. Without changing the keyboard option, we press 'next' and then it freezes. We've also tried the 'repair your computer' option in the Advanced Boot Options, but it also freezes.

I made recovery discs from the tablet before installing Windows 8 on it, which runs great. What I would like to do, if possible, is to use those Windows 7 restore discs and restore them to an external hard drive and be able to boot from it and run the original Windows 7 that came preinstalled. While window black screen is running a blur box window comes up stating hard disk security in this screen it state it is locked. My dad and I are working together trying to fix these problems on his HP Pavilion P6277c Win7 machine. We finally decided that a complete wipe and reinstallation of the OS is the only way to go. It was so fargone that we had to use Knoppix just to back up files to an external drive. (I don't know how it got this way; I can only guess a bad driver installation because it seems like it was after a printer driver was installed that this started.)But there are three recovery disks, and the first one is blank. He made the three disks when he got the computer, I'm guessing using HP's automated program, and when we tried to start the reinstallation, the first disk is just nothing. We put it in another computer and it said "Blank medium."
(I'm going to use this opportunity to vent, because it's infuriating to me that HP refuses to provide a normal reinstallation disk, and instead uses these "Recovery" disks that don't work and include the same bloatware that comes with it. Ok, now I'm back to being civil.)We have the Windows 7 install disk for my computer because it's custom-built and I bought the license separately, but it's the OEM copy from Newegg and we really don't know if the license stuff is going to let us install on another computer. And that won't include the drivers. It's a possible solution that we're going to try, but it's not optimal in my opinion
I was playing around with Wbadmin from the cmd of my recovery disc. Whilst it works perfectly from the cmd in the running system, I could not get it to work from the cmd of a recovery or an installation DVD.I thought that would be neat to image a defunct system so that the guys could save their data from the imaged VHD.The command I used is:WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:f: -include:c: Where 'f' is the disk to where you image.If you have a boring moment and want to try it on your box, I would be interested if anybody could make it to work. View 4 Replies View RelatedThis morning I woke up and the first thing I always do is switch on my PC to check email and to have a quick chat with my friend who lives In Australia before it get's late over there. My PC was on, running S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat via steam at the time, whilst still talking to my friend in Australia. Whilst typing to him, my system locked up mid sentence. I left it for 15 minutes, got Coffee to wake up, still froze.. I had no choice to manually switch it off via the Power Button on the Tower. When I switch the tower back on, I had no Display on the screen. Now, this isn't actually the problem, I've fixed this kind of issue on a friends PC before and knew straight away my Memory Modules had just died. I removed the RAM, switched on, waited for the long Beep to confirm my Mobo was still breathing.. Placed one Module back in, black screen, tried the other etc etc.. Simple fix, get my spare RAM that I saved from an older build, stuck them in, powered up.
At this point I had to fix a corrupt winload.exe (Or similar) likely due to me having to turn the power off manually.. I hit the Recovery Console, let Window's do it stuff, corrupt file repaired, hello desktop..Just to confirm it wasn't a one-off, I Shutdown the system and powered it back on, still successfully reaching Desktop with no issues.Now this is where it gets weird.. I have a room I keep PC spares as well as my Anti-Static mats and junk. I took my PC to this room in order to change my RAM. After I got the PC working.. All I did was put the side panel back on, take my PC back to my desk in my Lounge where it always is and somehow, some way, in the time it took me to move the PC, despite having no power, Windows managed to Corrupt itself... Eh?
To clarify, I fixed my original issue by swapping out the dead RAM, Fixed a Corrupt File and then successfully booted to desktop. I had fixed the problem, but when I moved my PC back to where it lives, it no longer works. I get to "Windows is Starting" and it freezes.(On a side note: The PC was not knocked on the journey from one room to the next and yes I did double check to see if a cable had came loose. I have not added any additional peripherals, the PC is set up in the exact same way it was when I performed the original RAM Swap)
In an attempt to fix this I have so far, from the (F8) Advanced Options. Repair your Computer All I get is the usual black screen with "Windows is loading files..." with the white progress bar. The Progress Bar reaches full, but then nothing happens. It stays on the same screen and never progresses. I gave the process 15 minutes and still nothing..
