Windows 7 - How To Delete The Kiosk User
Feb 7, 2013
On my wife's Acer Aspire 5517 she has to hold down the shift key to be able to login to her account otherwise the Kiosk user comes up. It is a windows 7 OS. How do I get this Kiosk option deleted or turned off?I have tried going into the accounts to do this but Kiosk is not an option to delete. They seem to be more involved with getting the kiosk option added or deleted specifically in IE or Firefox. I also did a search on the microsoft website but that was no help either.

We could like to build up the Kiosk in Windows 7 Machine. Before, in Windows XP, we can make the desktop in user's profile as read only and prevent them remove/delete desktop icon. How can I do it in Windows 7? Any GPO can be apply ?

I am looking for a way to set up a Windows 7 Professional kiosk on an intranet in a small company. I require a way to set up a computer to run ONLY Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Also, I would like to have this computer automatically log in to a predetermined, non-admin account that I can bypass as an admin.Currently, I have a Windows 7 computer with a touchscreen. All the computers at the small company are connected via intranet. The company needs a computer for multiple people to have access to the product and customer information on an Excel spreadsheet.I have googled with no success. Well, actually, I did find things, But, nothing told me how I would be able to log in as the administrator to, say, perform maintenence on it. All I found was how to have a forced log in and automatically start Excel. But, they all seemed for a "Stand-alone" computer, which I believe does NOT include intranet computers.Bottom line, I need a kiosk for Excel and an automatic login that I can bypass, as needed, as an admin.

And i cannot delete it even through the default admin profile. It says that i need an admin account to delete it. All the files and evrything are still in that folder.?

I have an admin account, but it's the only account for my computer. I used to have plenty of old accounts, some of which were also admin accounts. When I decided to delete them, I chose to keep the files just in case. Now I realize I don't need them but it won't let me delete them.

I am currently unable to delete my old Administrator user account on my Win 7 PC. I log onto my new Admin account and go to the Control Panel and then to add or remove user accounts. I select the old account select delete, and then confirm. It does not let me do this. However, oddly there is no error message, it just sends me back to the page I was on previously and the account is still there. I also cannot demote it to a standard user account.

I have been working on a friends computer, trying to clean it up a little. I am logged onto the administrator account that he had set up, but it also shows it as a guest account and I can't do anything with the other accounts. I am trying to delete some of the standard user accounts that he doesn't want on it anymore and I can't do anything with them. When I try to create a new user account it shows "The specified account name is not valid, because account names can not contain the following characters:/[]";:|<>+=,?* Please type a different name"

My husband and I just got a new desktop, I originally planned on sharing a user account but since we're both in school I figured to have our own user accounts just to keep our files more separated and everything. So I created a second user account for me. I then realized that since he uses MY iTunes account, it makes sense that we use a shared music folder. Somehow I effed up my folders, the Public Music folder in particular. The only way I could see how to fix it was to restore it. Well that fixed the music folder problem, but it restored the computer back to before I had set up my own user login. No problem, I went back in and re-created it. Now my problem is that the user accounts are just fine, but the user folder from my first account is still in the the C drive under "users" but technically there is no user account that's attached to it. And of course, the folder is locked. I tried to delete it, but got a popup saying I was about to delete a system file so How to I remedy this situation???

I just finished installing Windows 7 Professional x32 and had a problem with deleting the windows.old because of the permission bug. Well I managed to delete the Windows.old by editing my security and user however when I log-offed, I saw another user account that I think I've mistakenly made while editing the security in the properties of a folder in windows.old. My problem is, the delete function gone! The mistakenly made user is Administrator. When I logged in Administrator, a pop-up appeared saying that it is a temporary user account.

I received my new laptop from the administrator at work, it came with a browser and recycle bin on the desktop. I found a work around for removing the recycle bin so that is no prob. However...
When I delete the browser icon it asks for an administrator login (which I have been given) I enter this and the icon is then deleted. However the icon keeps coming back! This seems to happen when I log back on or sometimes just after a few hours.

I work at an electronics retailer and a display model laptop was sold to a customer about a year ago. That customer is back and is upset that there is an account called "Kiosk" that she can't get rid of. She did something to it, and now when the computer boots it brings up the "Kiosk" user name and password entry screen, and nobody knows the password. She has other accounts on the computer, but they don't show up any more. Just "Kiosk" and "switch to other user", which requires a username and password, but I don't know them. I just spent $50 on some crap software that's supposed to remove all the passwords, which didn't work, but it did tell me the names of the accounts, one being "HP", which has no password, so I was able to get in. However

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

My father replaced his Windows 98 machine with a new computer running Windows 7.He's currently on 32-bit ultimate, but we could change versions if needed. He's really hoping there's some way to force Windows 7 into a single user mode, primarily so C:usersAll Users, Default User, Public, and his own user are merged into one. It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.

So a new box recently built, when booted, defaults to the local administrator account. This is a Windows 7 machine for a Linux guru that doesn't want to be bothered pressing more buttons than is necessary, if you get my drift. So my question is, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del...how do I dictate to Windows that the preferred used is "HisDomainAccount" on our company domain, as opposed to the local admin account?

I changed the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList in order to move the default user locations to my second partition. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

I changed a user from admin to standard after creating a new admin account. When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control. Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. I want the utilities to run but do not want to have to authenticate every time I boot

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

How do I map existing User Folders to a newly created User Account?I had existing User Folders on drive D. I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. If I create a user account with the same name will it map to the existing folder within Users?I did a test of this. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.

From my husband's Admin account, I deleted my own User Account, but the account is still there (with a lock icon on it) and I am unable to delete it (gives me the message that the folder is open or in use by another program). I changed the owner to my husband (checked the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects") as suggested on this thread and I still can't delete it.istory:- My user profile was corrupted, got the message that a temporary user profile was created.- Rather than going the route of going into the registry as suggested here, I deleted the account but kept the files (was this my mistake)?- When I went to create a new account, it appended HOME.DESKTOP to the end of my name
