View 7 RepliesIn the start menu there's a user folder, and within this folder a bunch of subfolders: My music, my videos, my documents, my downloads, etc.
I want to remove these folders and replace them with my own folders that I'll actually use but every time I do I get an error message telling me that the location... is no longer available.
Is there any way to remove these folders or otherwise deal this this or do I just have to deal with having a bunch of unnecessary folders making a mess of my user folder?
How to Create Your Own Special User Folder ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my admin account last night. When i tried to login it said that that the user profile could not be loaded. So i logged into the built in admin account and deleted that profile and created a new admin account. Now when i login to my new account, in c:/users, the old profile folder is still there. And i cannot delete it even through the default admin profile. It says that i need an admin account to delete it. All the files and evrything are still in that folder.?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy husband and I just got a new desktop, I originally planned on sharing a user account but since we're both in school I figured to have our own user accounts just to keep our files more separated and everything. So I created a second user account for me. I then realized that since he uses MY iTunes account, it makes sense that we use a shared music folder. Somehow I effed up my folders, the Public Music folder in particular. The only way I could see how to fix it was to restore it. Well that fixed the music folder problem, but it restored the computer back to before I had set up my own user login. No problem, I went back in and re-created it. Now my problem is that the user accounts are just fine, but the user folder from my first account is still in the the C drive under "users" but technically there is no user account that's attached to it. And of course, the folder is locked. I tried to delete it, but got a popup saying I was about to delete a system file so How to I remedy this situation???

View 9 Replies View RelatedA twist on the creation of user folders on a drive other than C: in Win 7 Ultimate. Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!
how to get rid of the extra folders as they're cluttering up the users home folder and causing confusion.
How do I map existing User Folders to a newly created User Account?I had existing User Folders on drive D. I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. If I create a user account with the same name will it map to the existing folder within Users?I did a test of this. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my workings with Windows 7, I have come across a few folders that have been created by the system or and installation, they are all locked and are a number/letter combination type name. The first contains a copy of iesetup.exe dated 2/8/2009. The second contains an MPsigStub.exe dated 5/21/10, the third has an amd64 folder that shows up as empty, I didn't have show hidden files on. The fourth has another iesetup.exe same date, ie8.msu same date, a .dll same date and a eula.rtf dated 2/12/09. View 9 Replies View RelatedThrough some obvious fault of my own, and probably during one of two complete Windows 7 Ultimate reinstalls, I ended up with four of five folders within my ProgramData folder that appear to belong to another user. Since I am the only user on the system, and since Win 7 tells me that I need permission from myself to access these files, I was confused. Two of these folders had data from both Nero, and Nuance. Attempting to upgrade either of these applications failed, probably due the protected, or read-only, status of these folders. While I couldn't erase them, I was able to rename them. While that then cause both applications to fail, reinstalling these applications with straightforward, and I'm no longer locked out of these folders.
That just leaves the two folders that I renamed, and am unable to delete under any circumstances. I even tried booting the system under a standalone Linux, and any attempt to delete these folders failed there also. This situation is more of a net, or annoyance, then any major problem, but I would be happy to listen to anyone's ideas about how I might delete these folders.
As the attachements show, there are 7 Roxio/Sonic files[shared] in Ccleaner but I do not use Roxio or Sonic. There are also tons of Silverlight files in Ccleaner along with as many Activex/Com issue. Also, there are Ubuntu and VM files in Windows Explorer which I tried but thought I removed.>Question, can I remove them?I was trying to get Ccleaner to run out of a VM so I could delete all if there was trouble.s the best way to 'image' prior to running Ccleaner or is there a better way?If I restore the registry and there is trouble will system restore recover from the trouble?
