I have upgraded from 32 bit Windows 7 to 64 bit Windows 7, and I've been having problems with it. After a while, a program would freeze, then everything else would freeze. I have checked for viruses, chkdsk, sfc /scannow, memtest86+, defragged updated my graphics drivers, etc, until I finally re-installed. The problem still persists, but it's not as dominant, but it is preventing me from working properly. I feel it's kinda obvious that something is activating it (but still random) but I don't know what.
Here is my System info:
System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 4541 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, 1024 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 1174695 MB, Free - 914805 MB; D: Total - 255999 MB, Free - 45742 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc., 0TP406
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled
And I attached some log files from DxDiag and HijackThis at the bottom of this post.

I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my system and it freezes during expanding files. I searched all forums and information thats available online, tried everything that was listed but no solution yet.
My system is Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel Quad Core Processor, 6 GB RAM on 3 slots, I had a 250 GB before this process but i bought a 1 TB 7200 RPM HD thinking that it would solve the problem somehow.
I took out all USB items including mouse & keyboard and using PS2 mouse/kb now. Also took out 2 RAMs leaving only one 2 GB. Now the machine only has the mother board, processor, video card, 2 gb ram, ps2 mouse & keyboard, and the monitors.
I checked BIOS, and i have the latest update. Tried everything on BIOS from setting it to Safe Mode, Disabling all USB ports, Internal Audio Device, and pretty much everything that i found online. Im just yet to flush the BIOS, change DVD drive and install it from a flash drive.

My Windows 7 has stopped booting after a restart, the system would just endlessly play the boot animation and not boot properly... system restore won't work, startup repair won't work, chdsk and sfc won't work. I have yet to try and see whether a Registry fix works. Windows loads the WRE VERY slowly.

New Windows 7 (64-bit) HP PC freezes at startup when HP Office-jet Pro L7680 All-in-One printer is USB-connected. If the USB cable is disconnected, the PC unfreezes and continues booting correctly, and the printer functions properly with the exception that the scanning function causes a freeze-up. There was never any of these freezing issues when the same printer was connected to my old XP machine. I have uninstalled and re-installed printer drivers to no avail.

I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and when it tries to connect to my wifi, the computer freezes and requires me to do a hard reset of the system.
I have a D-Link DWA-547 PCI card, and this seems to be the culprit. If I am quick I can disable the card before it starts to connect to the internet. Once it connects, the computer freezes.
I have tried several drivers for the card without luck including:
1.40b06
1.60(E)b12
The default drivers that Windows 7 installed (7.0.0.84 I think...)
They all freeze the computer.
Has anyone run into this before, and found a solution?

I tried installing Windows 7 64bit on my home computer yesterday. I kept getting a problem with it freezing in step 5 of the installation. I tried redoing it a couple of times and it always froze at the same point. I noticed that the mouse did not respond when it froze so not sure if I should try unplugging it.

Firstly, my system specs are on my profile I got a new ram stick for my PC. Here's the link from where I bought it:Flipkart: Corsair DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) PC RAM (CMV4GX3M1A1333C9): RamSo I put it in and booted up the computer. Worked fine till the welcome screen of windows7. I then logged in and after the startup processes were loaded, I got a blue screen of death. Got it couple more times when I booted it up. After that the screen never gave any BSOD. Just kept freezine. This kept happening again and again. I thought it might be because my older corsair ram sticks could be conflicting with this one. So I booted it with the new stick only. Same freezing of screen. So it definitely isn't conflicting RAMs.
I decided to see if the problem is with the stick or some driver issue. So I booted into Ubuntu and am currently typing through it. Been using it since a couple of hours and is working fine. So this definitely is a windows issue with the RAM stick as windows works fine if I remove the new stick. Also, windows works fine in safe mode with the new stick too. Any idea what is the issue here? I'll be posting the minidumps of the BSOD in a short while.

have asked this question before but I relocated my question here. I recently built a new computer. i5 quad core, Ga-p55 mobo, 8 gigs of ram- ddr3 1600 corsair, nvidia 460gtx se. When i start my computer up it freezes on the Windows Logo. I tested my ram, for 8 or so tests, no problems. I used 2 different hard drives and the problem happens on both of them. One of them is 500gig which i know works, the other was 750gig. when windows does load it takes about a minute or 2, with no other programs on it

Each time I turn on my PC, it boots up fine, but then when I open FireFox, I get a freeze up. I can still see the cursor and move it with the mouse, but there is no response when I click on anything. I have to shut the PC of manually and then when I restart it again, things work normally for the rest of the session.

I have a problem where windows 7 freezes just after logging in. It's happening on a new build (i7 2600k, asus P8Z68-V PRO, thermaltake 775w psu, 16gb 1833mhz corsiar vengence, crucial 120gb ssd, evga gtx 570). for three weeks the computer ran great and super fast. while playing a game it froze and required a hard restart. I began playing the game again and 20 minutes later it did the same thing. after another hard reset it began freezing after logging in. Sometimes getting stuck, sometimes getting a blue screen. in safe mode the computer would work fine. I had the asus autotune OC on the first time it happened, subsequent times had it off.
I discovered the issue seems to be the video card driver. after removing the gtx 570 the problem still occurred with the onboard video and intel drivers. When i uninstalled the intel drivers and just had standard vga there were no problems. this led me to believe it was a motherboard issue. luckily my motherboard was under 30 days old so i returned it for a new one. Same problem and i'm stuck on what the solution might be.

I am struggling to fix my computer. It all started when I went to install an 3rd 1 TB drive to my computer. The computer seemed to boot up just fine, then once windows started to load, I got the BSOD. Now I have disconnected all the drives but the one my os is on. When I load windows, I get a couple mins of use, then everything just freezes. I can work with safe mode a little, but it will randomly reboot after a few mins sometimes. I don't know what the problem could be. Here is what I have done/attempted so far. Disconnect all unnecessary devices - no changeRan a memory test - okTried startup repair - it says it fixed a couple problems, but I have not noticed any changesRan a DiskCheck - Fixed a couple bad clusters, but I have not noticed any changesSwapped PSU with one I know works - No changesRight now I am running a virus scan, I'll post later what the results were. I have attempted to do a system restore, but windows keeps crashing before it completes it. System Specs:Windows 7 x64AMD Athlon II x4 635MSI 880GMA-E458 GB DDR3 RAM (4x2GB)Saphire Radeon HD 5450

I've had this laptop for about 2 years, and recently (about 2 weeks ago) it's been very slow, freezing if I start chrome or other software, delay going into system options when I click ctrl+alt+delete. But today, it froze again and it wouldn't budge so I held my power button to turn it off and restarted it, and shortly after it booted up, it froze and the mouse wouldn't even bother to move or click anything, everything was frozen. I've tried restarting several times already but it still freezes, although safe mode works for me which is what I'm using right now, I've already used the "Last Known Settings that worked" feature and it can boot when I do a selective boot with just the drivers. But normal boot settings do not work.
Furthermore, I've ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool which showed no errors at all after it was fully completed. So I'm quite unsure what to do because I attend a laptop program at school and regularly use my laptop for work.I made sure my drivers are all updated by using Driver Genius Professional which I've had for quite a while.I've also tried to use system restore to many restore points but it just boots up and gives me the message of how it has failed.

Well i had bough Gta IV for pc. And after some updates required by the game it needed to restart my pc, when it booted back up, it had said some files were corrupted and i couldnt boot the OS. I tried installing, but it kept saying boot Mgr was missing, and said to press ctrl alt and delete and restarted the system. After weeks of trying, i used an actual program on my laptop and burned an iso of windows 7 to a disc. I went thru the install and after using any somewhat demanding task or program like internet explorer it would freeze, mouse, keyboard, etc would freeze. I had to hard reset it. Now most of the time it gets to where it shows the green, blue and red colors or something spinning to form the windows logo and then freezes. Ive tried various methods of switching around hardware like video cards, switchin ram, etc. Still same results. Ran memtest and cant get results due to it freezing.

I when I went over to my desktop after getting up this morning I found that it didn't react to me moving the mouse, and the screen stayed black even when I turned it on. I turned it off, then back on. It froze during the windows boot screen (black screen + logo ) It kept doing that. Tried System Restore, it froze during that too.On Windows 7 install it freezes during the Expanding phase at random points. What I've tried:Installing on another harddrive. (same result)Windows Restore Memory Diagnostic (no Errors)Chkdsk (not /r the short version, will have to make a boot cd to do that)

When I boot my Win 7 machine and logon the desktop loads just fine, but when I click on the start button it freezes and doesn't come back - I can't click on anything. I think I've managed to narrow it down to being a problem with the DHCP service by disabling all services in msconfig and reenabling each one in turn. Everything was fine until I enabled the DHCP service - even starting manually after it has booted caused the issue to come back.

I was playing a game when suddenly the screen froze. The system was completely unresponsive. The lights on the keyboard wouldn't even change when pressing Num Lock, Caps Lock or Scroll Lock. When rebooting, the system would not go into Windows. It would just make it past the "Starting Windows" screen and then freeze up again. I ran System Repair and let it do its thing. It took about 5 minutes then came back and gave me a general error message, saying it couldn't fix the problem. However, Windows did start correctly after System Repair was run. The problem occured a few more times. Mostly when playing games but also once whilst I was browsing the internet (music was playing also).

I can't pass through the windows screen when I boot my Laptop ( boot -> windows screen -> (after like 15 mins) -> return to booting (automatic) -> infinite).... and I'd love to put my spec and info for my laptop but I can't. I haven't used my laptop for like a week. Here's the things that I tried:First, I tried this "recovery mode". But every time I try, only thing I see is this blue back ground ( not the blue screen of death). I don't see any window or message, just a cursor and this blue background. Funny thing is I can still move my cursor. ( One time I just decided to wait till the window appears, exactly for like 11 hours, no window appeared.)Next, I tried the safe mode ; all 3 safe mode options (network, without network, just safe mode, I'm not sure if I'm right but it goes like that). With the safe mode, I can pass through the windows screen, but that's it. Only thing I see is the black safe mode background ( the back ground with words in each 4 corner, and I think one in the middle). Same thing with the Recovery mode, nothing appears even after waiting for ridiculously long period; only the black back ground. After that I tried every other options in the advanced booting options ( I don't know the exact name). But all of them showed similar or same results as other 2 steps that I listed above. I also tried the reboot disk from windows 7. I used my friend's PC to make one. Showed same results as " recovery mode". Blue background with no window. After trying the reboot disk, I tried the official windows 7 CD. Tried the recovery option first that comes with the CD, but showed same results as "recovery mode"; Blue background. So, I tried the "Download" button. Instead of just the blue background, this time there was a sentence in the middle. It went like " preparing installation" (I used windows 7 disk from other country, so I don't know the exact sentence). I waited like 5 hours and still no progress, just blue "preparing installation" background.

I have a HP labtop and my laptop froze all of a sudden so I did a hard restart of the computer. After restarting the computer I am no longer able to boot my computer up, the screen will go black sometimes after the log in screen. But now I do not even get the option to go to the log in screen now it just goes to the startup recovery stage. Everytime I try to fix start up I get startup repair off line following by the details of 0.00000 or something like that. The numbers are all zeros in the details but I tried other options like restoring to a previous point and I keep getting errors.

So, I'm not exactly sure what I did. I was clearing up some space on my computer after using the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of this Norton trial popup that came up everytime I booted my computer. Now, after it told me to restart, it seems to be stuck in an endless boot cycle that resets itself after showing the Windows logo. I've since tried running startup repair, which freezes as it shows the progress bar for 'Windows is loading files'. Safe mode will not work, either. It just sends it back into the boot cycle. Not sure what to do at this point. My computer came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have any startup discs.
