I tried installing Windows 7 64bit on my home computer yesterday. I kept getting a problem with it freezing in step 5 of the installation. I tried redoing it a couple of times and it always froze at the same point. I noticed that the mouse did not respond when it froze so not sure if I should try unplugging it.

so i decided to re-install windows fresh,i put my windows 7 ultimate 64bit in and booted from it i got to the screen and click next,then agree ,chosse the hard (is only one 1tb),and then the progress bar % come,,like 30sec the pc is getting frozen ...stock,if i do it again same problem.so,changed hard drive ,same problem,all cables are out ,only keyboard and mouse ,i checked the memory with memtest+ it pass 10. so that means is okay,also tested each memory separate ,same problem.so right now i have the dvd drive ,one hdd 1tb ,memory,thats all i have in my pc,and i cant figure out why is it freezing on me all the time,the computer is clean ,no dust!
I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and when it tries to connect to my wifi, the computer freezes and requires me to do a hard reset of the system.
I have a D-Link DWA-547 PCI card, and this seems to be the culprit. If I am quick I can disable the card before it starts to connect to the internet. Once it connects, the computer freezes.
I have tried several drivers for the card without luck including:
1.40b06
1.60(E)b12
The default drivers that Windows 7 installed (7.0.0.84 I think...)
They all freeze the computer.
Has anyone run into this before, and found a solution?
every time I boot Windows 7 64bit it slows down for about 2 seconds, then freezes,except for the mouse. Nothing will recover, and this happens within a few minutes of boot up. I don't know what to do, I need things to try
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded from 32 bit Windows 7 to 64 bit Windows 7, and I've been having problems with it. After a while, a program would freeze, then everything else would freeze. I have checked for viruses, chkdsk, sfc /scannow, memtest86+, defragged updated my graphics drivers, etc, until I finally re-installed. The problem still persists, but it's not as dominant, but it is preventing me from working properly. I feel it's kinda obvious that something is activating it (but still random) but I don't know what.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and never had any problem installing 64-bit programs.
Now, when a try to install any 64-bit programs it shows a message of incompatible version of the program with the running Windows, but my Windows 7 is 64 bits.

My system is Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel Quad Core Processor, 6 GB RAM on 3 slots, I had a 250 GB before this process but i bought a 1 TB 7200 RPM HD thinking that it would solve the problem somehow.
I took out all USB items including mouse & keyboard and using PS2 mouse/kb now. Also took out 2 RAMs leaving only one 2 GB. Now the machine only has the mother board, processor, video card, 2 gb ram, ps2 mouse & keyboard, and the monitors.
I checked BIOS, and i have the latest update. Tried everything on BIOS from setting it to Safe Mode, Disabling all USB ports, Internal Audio Device, and pretty much everything that i found online. Im just yet to flush the BIOS, change DVD drive and install it from a flash drive.
New Windows 7 (64-bit) HP PC freezes at startup when HP Office-jet Pro L7680 All-in-One printer is USB-connected. If the USB cable is disconnected, the PC unfreezes and continues booting correctly, and the printer functions properly with the exception that the scanning function causes a freeze-up. There was never any of these freezing issues when the same printer was connected to my old XP machine. I have uninstalled and re-installed printer drivers to no avail.

View 3 Replies View Relatedim having some problems installing windows 7. i had vista home premium but it started going very slow so i decided to install win 7 ultimate as i use it at work and its alot nicer tbh. I reformatted my partition and started the install tis gets to 10% usally can get up to 16% and then it gives an error file missing or currupt, when i restart the computer i get the "BOOT MNGR" is missing error i thought maybe a hardware issue as it was under warranty Toshiba had a look hardware is 100% fine no errors found. so now im stuck with this error and no way round it. i have read lots of similar problems but none come up with any decent ways to fix it, most have managed to install it and then get the boot error but mine has not even installed so i cant repair the OS ect.
I have also tried putting Vista back on but it just doesnt load up just a black screen, i tried XP but i think the laptop is to powerfull as it just bluescreens everytime i even tried removing some ram as xp only run upto so much but to no avail. atm im trying with a new partition + the 100mb system one but has frozen
Ok, I tried to install Windows 7 a while back, and it would freeze every time during 'expanding files' section. I also run into similar problems when it comes to installing Vista. I've gotten Vista to install maybe 2 times and both times it ran fine for a little then it refused to boot (not sure where in the process anymore).I checked the Windows Vista / 7 compatibility guide on Microsoft's page and everything i have SHOULD work, so I'm not thinking its hardware issues.I read another post on these forums that had someone saying it worked when they swapped out the dvds when it froze. I don't believe its the disc either, because both Vista and 7 had no problems installing on other computers that i tested it on. Running a Virtualbox with 768mb RAM assigned to it installed flawlessly as well.Why does my install keep freezing on the machine I plan to activate Windows with, but not on any other?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy attempt to do a Repair Install of an Upgrade to Home Premium from Professional freezes at an indicated 72% completion of the Transferring Files, Settings, and Programs section. That figure is misleading because it actually stops at 99.9729+% with only 77 items left to transfer. I have ran the install program many times and each time it freezes at 77 items left. Even though the number of files to be transferred changes each time, the freeze occurs at 77 left to go. I have been looking through the forum and reading the sticky threads above searching for answers. One of the suggestions is to check the memory. So I downloaded IsoRecorder and Memtest86+ and burn to a CD. Boot the computer with the CD and don't get a screen with all the information as shown in the various Memtest86+ screen shots. After two hours of waiting it is apparent that this is not working. Maybe a bad download, maybe a bad burn? Oh, well. I next get an openSUSE distro disk that has a memory test on it. Again it is Memtest86+ and again the same incomplete screen. Memtest86+ does not like my laptop, processor, chip set or something. So I run the Windows 7 Memory Diagnostics test. First ran the standard test for 10 passes. No problems found. Then I ran the extended test for 10 passes and still no problems.
Then on my list to try before the next install attempt was to chkdsk and to defrag the HDD. The computer is set to do a defrag weekly but it has been a few days since the last one and you never know. Now to run the install and again it freezes with 77 to go. It is becoming tempting t wipe the HDD and make the laptop a dedicated Linux machine but I hate surrender. Some threads mention the possibility of problems reading the Windows 7 install disk and suggest copying it to another DVD or USB stick. Sounds like it may be worth a try. But before this can happen a friend offers the use of his install disk. I accepted and it worked. I now have Home Premium back on this computer. The nice, sparkly DVD I bought from Amazon for this project evidently has a bad bit on it from Microsoft that is corrupting a file and thus blocking the install. I don't know if copying the DVD to another media would of worked in this case but the suggestion triggered the acceptance of the possibility of a problem with the official DVD and the try with another Microsoft DVD that worked.
I was using the Beta since Feb. with no problems whatsoever. When the time limit was up I installed the RC1. I did a freesh install, not an upgrade. Ever since the install, my display will freeze at random and the pc requires a hard reboot. I initially assumed it was a video driver issue. First, I updated all my drivers to the latest, but it kept happening. So I tried the driver for Vista, but it kept happening. Well, gaming and watching video is the main thing I do with my pc, so as is it is useless. I disabled the video driver so I could download another OS but it still freezes, even with no video driver.
I can't stay unfrozen long enough now to download a linux distro, and my XP is no good becasue it doesn't come with the drivers I need to get online, so I can't install it and update the drivers, so basically I'm screwed.
I have searched online for hours, but no real answers. Its frustrating as hell that the beta was working flawlessly, then they made me ugrade, now its broken.
I got a new HD and windows7 home premium 64bit, when my computer starts up i get to the desktop, where the dialog box should come up where i pick my languange and begin install. This never appears and eventually my computer restarts and repeats until it freezes after the second or third restart.I loaded fail safe defauls and now i can begin the install process but im still having the same problem with restarting and freezing seemingly randomly. I ran a memory diagnostic and did not find any problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, all out of the blue, my PC started to freeze - at that time with VISTA installed. I tried to restart and it froze again, just after a couple of minutes. Tried again, again, again and again. With the same result. Without getting any further I tried to install Windows 7 to get my PC up and running again. Formatted all of partitions to get a fresh and clean start. and it froze again, within a couple of minutes. Now I suspect it may be caused by a hardware problem? What is there to do? What can I do? I`m far from a PC-expert, I HP is somewhere between 1-3 years old I think, and I`ve never encountered this problem before, on this PC or any other.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOK, trying to put windows 7 on a motion m1300 tablet. 1gig ram 1ghz cpu and 60gb hard drive. due to the bios being limiting install from xp desktop is impossible, so using an external disk drive i am trying to do a clean install, but it just stops at setup is starting, i know that seven will run on these, seen it with my own eyes, but i cannot get setup past this part.i have a feeling its the graphics driver, but getting into device manager from the language screen/ click here to install screen hasnt worked. its not in the system32 folder and so i dont know where to lookedit: before its asked, yes the disk is good, and i cant use a usb because the bios wont alow it. also the bios are up to date

I have been trying to install it on my computer and everything goes well until the second reboot. At this point the computer freezes at the windows 7 splash screen. The 32 bit version installs perfectly without any problems.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got Windows 7 Pro 32 bit as a early Christmas gift and was excited to try the new OS. I have been running XP pro for years and my current system works great. I backed up my files and tried to load it on a RAID 0 configuration. It started just fine then it got to the splash screen and froze. After about ten minutes I realized this was not normal so I ejected the disk and it moved to the next screen which is the windows wallpaper.
It said windows is “starting up” and froze again and continued to freeze throughout the process. I did a custom install. I repeated the process until it started to expand the files then nothing. It said it couldn’t recognize my hard drives. I deleted all raid partitions and rebuilt the raid array. I tried to reload it again and still nothing. I reloaded XP then ran the installation disk. It loaded up Windows 7and after several ejects Windows 7 was running. I tried to load Office 07 and it wouldn’t load. The CD sounded like it was working but it seemed like the disk could not be recognized.
I downloaded all the updates and correct drivers and Office 07 still wouldn’t load. After several hours and repeated attempts to get it working right, it crashed. I have not been able to get it to work at all. I tried again to load Windows 7 but I gave up thinking I am missing something but I don’t know what. I have since loaded XP back up and I am looking for any help at all as to what the problem might be. I ran the advisor and it said my system can run Windows 7. The Mobo disk has an updater but there were no new bios files available. I am stuck. My comp specs are below, maybe it might shed some light on the problem. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I when I went over to my desktop after getting up this morning I found that it didn't react to me moving the mouse, and the screen stayed black even when I turned it on. I turned it off, then back on. It froze during the windows boot screen (black screen + logo ) It kept doing that. Tried System Restore, it froze during that too.On Windows 7 install it freezes during the Expanding phase at random points.What I've tried:Installing on another harddrive. The line where it says "SYSTEM RESTORE" is the point at which I restored the computer to after installing some software and having the "Starting Windows" issue recur. I check the Event Viewer with every boot. The only Error and Critical events are (generally) Power events when I am forced to reboot manually due to a "Starting Windows" freeze.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 running on my Asus laptop. I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows, as I will need it for work. It was installed via side-by-side and re-sized the partition
The installation of Ubuntu was flawless and works great, but now when I boot to Windows, its will randomly freeze, sometimes in 1 minute, sometimes within 10 minutes.
The only way I can solve this issue, is to either perform a disk scan from windows or restore the MBR.
The disk scan works, and Windows run fine, although If I boot Ubuntu again, run that for awhile, then boot windows again the problem returns.
Restoring the MBR works as well, though without a dualboot, its useless I have also tried EasyBCD and replaced GRUB with Windows boot manager, though same problems.
I'm installing Windows 7 Professional on my laptop and I'm at what I think is the final set up stage but it has been trying to connect to the network and apply the settings for an hour now. The loading bar is still scrolling continuously and I can move the pointer round but I can't do much else.

I pressed the button for additional options and clicked format.After about 4-5 seconds it said it has been formated (although it seemed a little bit too quickly for me) and I continued to install. It gets to the install screen and shows "Copying Windows Files 0%...". It quickly and somehow, without showing 100% done "skips" the step giving it a tick and moves to expanding the files. Expanding stays on 0% and nothing else. No indication of the DVD reading, no indication of the HDD writing. It just stays like that and...
NOTHING!!! This Windows 7 is from a torrent and the exact same edition is running on my PC, installed just fine. I tried several other CD's and on one of them it just got to the second restart and IT DIDN'T REBOOT! Even after waiting about 10 minutes it just did nothing. I restarted the laptop manually and then the install started from the beginning... Got any ideas what to do??? Please help, this is very VERY important!!!
It worked pretty awesome. Before I installed Pro tools, occasionally when I would put it in sleep mode it would turn off by itself a few hours later. This did not happen very often tho. So a few days ago I got Pro Tools M-Powered 9. This is a version which should be compatable with Windows 7 64 bit. After it was installed and restared, Pro Tools worked perfectly. I used it for 4 hours or so and shut down my computer when I was done. The next day when I turned on my computer, it froze at the windows logo screen. I was only able to get to my desktop through safe mode and I uninstalled pro tools the proper way with the cd. After I uninstalled it my computer worked that night, but the next day I had the same freezing problem. So I dont know if this is because of pro tools or my computer parts dont match up well and it was a matter of time until this would happen. I dont even know what customer service to call: pro tools? MSI? Windows? eitherway im sure all of their customer service would suck.

During the installation process when windows 7 rebooted the first time, it hangs at the mainboard splash screen. I'm on another machine right now, so I borrowed this data from a recent post:
