Windows 7 64B Installation Stuck On "Installing Updates"
Aug 8, 2012
I installed an ocz vertex 4 ssd (256g model) into my msi gt70 laptop. A product key came with the laptop, and I've burned windows 7 to a disc. I made sure the ssd has priority in the BIOS too.
When I start up the installation, it gets to the "Installing updates" step, but doesn't progress any further, the laptop is effectively frozen on that step. I've tried re-installing a couple times now and it continues to get stuck on "Installing updates".
Do I need an active internet connection for this step by any chance?

System Specifics:
Every part of the computer is completely new.Its a selfconfigured system...
Processor: AMD FX-8120 3,1GHz
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-970-UD3 (BIOS F4)
RAM: DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 TI 1GB
SSD: 120GB SATA 6Gb/s
DVD: SATA Liteone iHas122
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
So basically my problem is what is stated in the topic already.Windows loads the data off of the ORIGINAL (purchased it today) DVD, extracting files etc. Then after the Computer restarts and loads, the installation process comes back up again, and shows the "moving dots" behind "Finishing Installation Process" for about 10-15 seconds, then they freeze... i left it for 2 hours. Nothing happened.I tried unplugging everything during the reset, after another try to install it. It freezes.I tried the "Shift+F10" --> explorer.exe . It freezes.I tried a downloaded copy of Windows 7 Prof.... same thing, it freezes.I tried 3 different Sata2 HDDrives, same thing it freezes.

I have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
1. No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation
2. There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install
3. Firewall shut off
4. Temp files, cookies, history cleared
5. background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc
6. software distribution folder renamed
7. tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually
8. Added windowsupdate to trust zone
9. ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".

Ok over the past week or so windows has been installing the same 3 updates every night! Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
So I checked to see if they failed and they were installed successfully!
I have ran 3 different MS Fixit things to no avail. I have tried to update the PC manually however it does not go past 0% on installing the updates it just says preparing updates.
I tried adding 2 optional updates to make it 5 and manually clicking update however it sticks on 0% downloading updates.
I am usually pretty good at troubleshooting and fixing PC problems however this one I am defeated! I do not want to restore if possible, will this take away ANY of my files e.g work I have done I have never had to do it before!

Right, straight to the point. I've recently been given a few parts of computer from my friends that has now been assembled into a working desktop.I've got Windows 7 saved as a .iso file on a usb-hdd. I manage to get it working up to the point where i click "Install Now" on the Windows 7 installer programme, then after a couple mins of loading once clicked it comes up with this message."A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."There are 3 options that come up with this pop up being "browse" "ok" and "cancel" After clicking "ok" it comes up with another message saying"No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

My toshiba netbook (running windows 7 ultimate) has been stuck in an updates loop for the better part of the year. Whenever it has wanted to restart for updates, I always let it, but now it gets stuck configuring and sometimes realizes that it's failed and reverts the changes, or sometimes (when it's stuck on the same percentage for hours or even days) I have to pull the battery and restart in safe mode to get it to work again. Now it's really stupidly slow and can't even open firefox half the time. I've taken some basic precautions, like thorough malware scans, backing up all my files on my external hard drive and deleting useless programs, but it's still sluggish and unreliable

Okay so i have this machine, acer m3100, that originally had windows vista. I tried to do a clean install of windows 7, with an original windows 7 installation cd.Everything would go okay until right after the computer restarts and goes to the part of COMPLETING INSTALLATION. At that moment my screen suddenly flashes with the blue screen of death. i wasnt able to right the error that shows up though. Then the computer restarts and goes to setup devices and right after that an error message appears saying, windows did not complete installation, due to an unexpected restart, restart the computer and restart the installation. If i click okay it will go into an endless loop. Restarting one time after another. So i thought i would install windows vista again. Try to make things the way they were before, but i get the same error. i'm only able to install xp. With XP everything works fine. I do want to be able to install windows 7 though.

So I reformatted my computer last night and reinstalled windows on it. It goes through the installing windows etc, then when it reboots it goes to a black screen, then it turns into the windows loading screen and just sits there with the colors above it. I checked the hard disk for errors and there are none. I also used 2 different windows cds and made a new one; none of these are scratched.

Windows notifies me that there are updates available. When I select to install the updates it takes a long time and I get a message stating that windows has detected that my computer is running on battery power and to plug my computer into an outlet.I get this message even when my computer is plugged into an AC outlet at the beginnig of the update dowload attept. What could be the problem? I had to have Windows 7 reinstalled on my computer by someone at a local charitable company but I've noticed little weird things that didn't happen when I had my original version.Internet sessions closing suddenly and cursor skipping around the page eventhough I updated my touchpad drivers.

I'm rebuilding my desktop PC with a fresh installation of Windows 7 x64.Upon first boot after installation, 3 updates automatically installed. After a reboot, I was informed that over 100 additional recommended updates (and quite a few optional updates) were ready to be installed.I chose to install all of the recommended and optional updates (except for the 39 international updates).During the Windows Update installation process, a Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center installation window appeared. When the progress bar got to about 75%, however, the following error dialog appeared underneath: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LibraryThis application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way Presumably, the installation of the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center (and perhaps other items) failed to install; upon pressing the OK button, I was informed that 51 updates succeeded and 75 failed. Codes 800706BE 800706BA were mentioned.Upon reboot, another batch of updates (75?) installed; then the PC rebooted twice. At this point, Windows 7 appears to be completely installed and up to date. There are no new items in Windows Updates. However, the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center is nowhere to be found; I was able to download the installer and successfully install the product.

Windows Update seems to be stuck in and endless cycle of applying the same 5 important updates over and over again. Probably been happening for about 3 months now, and despite going through the install process and following all the instructions to the letter, every time I start up, the same updates are available for download again. Here is a screenshot of Windows Update showing the updates in question

I have managed to achieve the BSOD quite a lot, and have tried re-installing Windows 7 x64 on my computer three times today.
I have received the BSOD:
after trying to reformat my F: drive.
Uninstalling my Nividia drivers for a new one
After using Firefox for a while it just won't open and BSOD follows shortly after
I believe after installing Windows Live applications it startes to give me BSOD
After the first BSOD I start to get the error message:
Check filesums or somehting about the computed sums is not correct.

Last night I received a message that Windows needed to download updates. There were seven of them, so I clicked on install. After downloading it said it had to restart to complete the installation. I then got the screen saying "Configuring Windows. Do Not Turn Off Your Computer." The little circle kept spinning for about a half hour. I saw that the HD light didn't come on at all, so I assumed it had locked up. I had to press and hold the power button to get it to reboot, and after telling me Windows did not shut down normally, it started up and appeared to complete the update installation.I checked the Update History and most of the updates said "Successful" but a few said "Pending". I have had this lockup happen before, but usually it installs with no problem. What can I do? What does Pending mean? I have Win 7 - 64 bt - Service Pack 1.

I have a dual hard drive system. When I attempt install windows 7 from the disk, I can do it and then install some programs, but windows ask to install important updates. Once it does this it always crashes and I can't boot into windows anymore. The repair windows 7 install does NOT work. Neither does the restore to a previous time work. Does this indicate that the hard disk is defective? I have used the western digital tool and it tested fine.

Windows XP used to give you the option to shut down your PC without installing Windows updates or to choose to shut it down and install updates, but this feature seems to be missing in Windows 7.One of my PC's runs Windows 7 Professional and it also comes with the Group policy Editor (gpdeit.msc) that can be used to tweak the registry so that you get the option to shut down with/without installing updates. It is fairly straightforward to do.However another of my PC's runs Windows 7 Home and it does not come with gpedit.msc.I downloaded the Group Policy Settings References for Windows 7 and Windows Server Excel file (Download: Group Policy Settings Reference for Windows and Windows Server - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details), and scrolled down to the Windows Updates lines at the end of the Administrative Templates tab; but I was unable to find the registry references in my registry. Specifically in order to enable "Do Not Adjust Default Option to Install Updates and Shut Down", I could not find the registry entries listed in the spreadsheet under either the HKCU or HKLM portions of my registry.

I was trying to install the automatic win7 updates and in the 'important' update was ie9. I clicked on 'install updates' and windows started installing ie9. After a couple of seconds I got this window saying:: "Some files that need to be updated are currently being used by these programs. Please save your work, close the programs and then continue. If you can't close, setup can do it for you."

That's the list of programs that need to be closed. Obvious, I cancelled. Why do I need to close almost everything for installing a browser?

I was going to going to reinstall windows 7 professional x64 version of windows in my laptop but during installation I got structed at the point where the earlier partitions are to be deleted and new ones are to be made(I got the option from custom install) to give the path for new C:// drive and others. Here is the basic of problem, the installation was taking very long time to delete my earlier partitions(nearly 30 mins.). So I derectly pressed the power button and shut down (while the deletion of earlier C:// drive was going on) my laptop eject the DVD on next boot, but now nothing was appearing after booting. So I again tried to do the same installation but this time the installation was stucked at the windows icon ('Starting Windows' Icon).

I'm running Windows XP 7 on a HP EliteBook 8440p laptopI installed three updates, including the latest Windows 7 Service Pack and now my computer will not start up again. The Startup Repair tool is detecting no errors. The system restore tool warns me that my diagnostic power is low and a restore can not be reversed. I ran a chk dsk and no errors were found and fixed there either.
