Win 7 Keeps Installing Its Own Driver On Restart
Aug 6, 2009
I've read a bunch of posts of this happening to people too but it doesn't seem like there was a permanent solution to any of them. I just installed windows 7 on a dell dimension 3000 and im using the onboard video. Everytime i reboot it wants to automatically install the "Standard VGA Display Driver" even though I uninstall it and install the Intel Display Driver that works much better and actually plays movies.
I even moved the display.inf out of the windows folder but now when i restart it still trys to install another driver over the one i have and just says that it cant find the driver for the device. And since I cant install the drivers then plug the device in, i'm kind of stuck in a rut right now. Any suggestions?

I'm still 3 days old to Windows 7 and i had this problem.
I installed the latest driver for Windows 7 for my display card ATI HD3870 and downloaded the driver from the official website.
My problem is, after installing the driver.
The installer didn't prompt me to restart the computer.
But since my notification area didn't appear any of ATI icon so i restart it.
But yet after restarting my pc i still don't see any icon and i went to check program files and i saw ati technologies but inside it i don't see a single item.
It's an empty folder.
So did i went to device manager and right click on my display driver and press update driver but it says I'm on the latest driver already.

[code] everything is detected with in the bios but the boot device LED stays solid on, I've booted it from a Windows 7 DVD then THE COMPUTER RESTARTS?!? It's only restarted after I've booted from the DVD, sometimes when it's at the language part but always does it when its at the install part right at uncompressing files at 0%.Now I've but about 6 rigs over the years without a problem and it's really getting to me. I've tried most sata settings (IDE & AHCI), different hdds, different sata cables & ports, cleared the CMOS(removed mains power, removed the CMOS battery, moved jumper waited 5min, held down power button, waited 5min, replaced battery, moved jumper back, replace mains power) the mb memOK function gives the RAM the all clear as well as the windows memcheck after 5 passes, everything was seated with a wrist strap, I've checked the ssd with sata to USB interface and my laptop gives it the all clear (oh yeh I chech with a diff HDD) and the mb has the latest firmware, USB flashed.

System Specifics:
Every part of the computer is completely new.Its a selfconfigured system...
Processor: AMD FX-8120 3,1GHz
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-970-UD3 (BIOS F4)
RAM: DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 TI 1GB
SSD: 120GB SATA 6Gb/s
DVD: SATA Liteone iHas122
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
So basically my problem is what is stated in the topic already.Windows loads the data off of the ORIGINAL (purchased it today) DVD, extracting files etc. Then after the Computer restarts and loads, the installation process comes back up again, and shows the "moving dots" behind "Finishing Installation Process" for about 10-15 seconds, then they freeze... i left it for 2 hours. Nothing happened.I tried unplugging everything during the reset, after another try to install it. It freezes.I tried the "Shift+F10" --> explorer.exe . It freezes.I tried a downloaded copy of Windows 7 Prof.... same thing, it freezes.I tried 3 different Sata2 HDDrives, same thing it freezes.

I recently build myself a gaming computer the specs are as follows:
i5 3570k
16GB G.Skill 1600 Mhz
ASRock Extreme4
Evga 750 Watt PSU
Asus GTX 670 2GB
After I Installed all of the drivers for everything but the graphics card it was finally time for that and as soon as I downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia and restarted my computer I immediately got into a reboot loop and any time I've tried going into safe mode to delete the drivers my computer restarts. On top of all of that there are these red vertical lines all over my monitor.

over the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000D" and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers. But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).
System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Intel i5
Gigabyte P55M-UD2
ATI Radeon 4800
Microsoft Security Essentials

I've been messing around with various drivers to try and get the game "RAGE" working. Which is an exercise in futility but to make this tumultuous process more agravating I've somehow inadvertently uninstalled my USB drivers drivers as well. This wouldn't be an issue, except that my computer has no PS2 ports.
long version:I used "GPU caps viewer" to check my driver driver version on my graphics card (ATI Radeon XFX 6790) as I'd not noticed a change in my gaming performance and I was unsure if the "11.10 preview 2" drivers drivers had been installed properly. "GPU caps viewer" said I was still running 11.8 which is what I had before I tried changing drivers last time. So I guessed that my drivers had not changed dispite the fact I uninstalled/reinstalled using the guide on the AMD /ATI site. So on a bunch of sites I saw people were using "DriverDriver Sweeper" to get rid of the registry files and hidden bits of the ATI/AMD drivers and softwaredrivers. I used this application, it found the drivers left overs and removed it and then asked if i wanted to reboot. At this point the drivers are "uninstalled" and the generic windows driver is working because my resolution/aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and wont go 16:10/16:9. AND more importantly my USB devices were all still working.I restart the computer and It loads windows and I try to type my password and nothing happens, The mouse cursor is in the middle of the screen and I can not move it, and there are no lights on my keyboard. The optical sensor in the bottom of my mouse also does not light up.
I restart again, and check the BIOS, all USB ports are enabled, so I try booting in to safe mode. I can use my keyboard to work in the BIOS, and to select "Safe mode with networking" (vs safe mode with out). When safe mode loads, same issue. No power to USB devices. I tested a bunch of devices; xbox controler; USB memory stick, external HDD etc. and none work. I don't know what to do; the mouse and keyboard work in the recovery partition installed on my HDD, but I really don't want to lose all that data. Ill probably end up using a live CD of linux to get my files and then format the PC if I can't figure out how to fix this.
Additional info:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
HP branded computer
ATI Radeon XFX 6790
AMD 1065T x6 CSU

I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit
I'm making a test equipment to test a USB device that uses a FTDI-chip (232R). This FTDI-chip has a S/N a Vendor ID (VID) and a Product ID (PID) along with many other settings.
My problem is: 1. I get a new USB device (not flashed in anyway) from the manufacturer, insert it into a USB port on the computer and windows install the standard device drivers included with this device (these are the same for every device) and no windows reboot message is visible.
2. Now I set the S/N, VID, PID to something I like, then I have to remove the USB device to set the settings. When I insert the device again Windows install the device drivers once again, but this time it prompts me with the message "Restart Now or Restart Later". I press "Restart Later" and the device works fine anyway... BUT Can I somehow get rid of this message?

I've been having this problem for about one year now and I decided it's time I sought online help. My PC is about 2 and a half years old and the current windows installation is roughly 2 years old (windows 7 professional x64 from microsoft academic alliance).Crashes/freezes happen at random times (I had gone about a month with none) and not when a particular program is running. I've attached minidump files and system health report.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD4870 x2
Running on windows 7 x64 ultimate
I was browsing away and my whole pc froze, with a strange little box around my cursor, although the sound was still working, I force shut down it and restarted and little message popped up saying the display driver has stopped working, I tried multiple things to solve this, to no avail, eventually it kept happening and it got so bad the computer would not start, i tried all of the "F" keys on startup and none worked, eventually i took it to a shop who wiped everything clean and it worked again.
Around 2 months down the line low and behold the same problem happened again, I found a solution and installed a program called driver robot, I used it and installed many outdated drivers, this seemed to fix the problem. For about 6 months, now it has happened again, my computer has now shut down and goes into a constant restart loop, as it is doing this the screens that show up are littered with dots and lines of many colours, I just need workaround on this, preferably without loosing all of my files.

so my computer had a 4350 that ran perfectly fine. I just dropped in the new 4850 and now the driver isn't installing properly. Everything comes up on the display, but catalyst control center doesn't work nor does going into device manager And clicking to install the drivers. I downloaded the current CCC through the amd website and set it to simply install the video driver and it finishes with a yellow question mark and and nothing has changed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail, but I was just able to find the old CCC disc that came with the 4350 for version 9.6. My best guess now is to uninstall CCC and reinstall it from the disc, unless anyone has a solution to this issue.

I've installed the RTM for Windows 7 build 7600 x64, Windows automatically assigned the driver for my 9800GT video card, there's no problem with the display but it lacks the Nvidia Control Panel, w/c I really need.
I've rushed to the nearest download center of Nvidia and downloaded the newest driver compatible with windows 7, actual file I've downloaded is: 190.38_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql
It took certain amount of time to install but after a bit(around the middle of the progress of the actual drivers installing) the dialog for Physix appeared asking me for language preference. Chose 'English' then the progress bar whized by and the 'Finished' screen appears with the message: "The system was not modified please, tried installing it again later", being a good boy, I tried installing it again , but the same error appears.

I have ATI x1950 pro VGA card and I need to install its driver on windows 7 x64
I tried installing the legacy 10.2 driver downloaded from AMD website but after installation I restart the PC, I see the windows 7 loading logo then I can't see the welcome screen but I hear windows startup sound! to be able to see my desktop again I have to hard restart the PC and login to safemode and remove ATI driver (which shows under unknown devices)
The problem isn't with ATI driver only it seems that I can't see my desktop with (microsoft's Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver) also (check attached image)
I tried removing ATI driver and clean the system with "AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.2" but I got the same problem after using.

I am trying to install a newer driver and have read that installing one of the newer NVIDIA ones for WinXP/2000 will be OK. However, it tells me that it cannot recognise the operating system as being Windows.

The laptop is: Acer ASPIRE 5740G. The specs are: Intel Core i3 330M (2.13 GHz, 1066 Mhz FSB) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 4 GB RAM (no other info here, sorry) 320 GB HDD (no more info here either) OEM Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium (I have never reinstalled it) The system is about 3 years old So yesterday, I was watching a video on youtbe when the whole laptop stoped responding, couldn't access task manager or anything, then I held the power button untill the laptop shut down. When I tried to boot again, windows started ok until after the welcome screen, it was stuck on a blcak screen. I tried a few times and the problem persist.including disabling all startup programs, using system restore to go 1 week ago (when it worked just fine), with no luck, until someone told me to uninstall my graphics driver. I did that in safe mode, and then rebooted. The windows loaded normally and logged in and everything, windows identefied my graphics card and installed the driver again and asked for a reboot, after that the whole thing happened again.I uninstalled the driver again in safe mode, and tried installing the latest driver from theATI website, after I did that it asked to reboot, that's when the BSoD started to appear.I can't get the performance monitor report to work, it gives me this message:"Error:An error occurred while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified."

I'm trying to install a BTTrace device driver for a wireless/bluetooth led on my Shuttle case. the problem i have is that the 64bit driver was built for xp 64, and therefore is not signed for windows 7. I have tried installing the driver in xp compatibility mode, but i get a message saying that the driver is unavailable to the program due to it being unsigned.
however when i bootup using f8 and disable driver signature enforcement, it works! now... i don't particularly want to boot up using f8 everytime i switch my pc on, and don't want to permanently disable driver signature enforcement. has anyone got any ideas or solutions?

I believe I have a unique trouble with my network adapter. It is installing every single time that windows starts, always behaving as a different piece of hardware thus driver is named like: "Atheros (...) Ethernet Controller #151" and increasing and what more, still having different MAC address. My problem is that my (legal) Windows (Win 7 Home Premium 64bit) after few startups starts thinking he is illegal every time I activate it by phone. I am beginning to be desperate about this. Over time I was thinking about several solutions to this but I am not capable of executing them alone. Two examples:
1.) One possibility is disabling automatic driver installation but in tutorials and forums it is done through pgedit.msc that is absent on Home Premium
2.) Disabling my network card completely (or removing it from my laptop) is also a way because I am using only wifi, but I havent found any way how to do it
... Network card is probably broken, so sending my nb to service could also work, but it is quite inconvenient considering time and money thrown away, i dont prefer this option

I apologize in advance if a thread related to this has already happened. Judging from my join date, I'm obviously new to these forums, a friend of mine recommended this to me, so I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out this problem. That problem being, I recently just wiped out my Windows 7 Basic edition due to some problems it was having and I recently just installed Windows 7 Ultimate (Wireless LAN_ Realtek_ 8.0. 0.238_W7x86W7x64_EM108). Now from my judgment with computers when I want to connect to a router, in the bottom right hand corner you could do as so and connect right away. Well, I can't do that. Right now I'm connected through my Ethernet cord and I'm trying to figure out this issue.
I went to my manufacturer website (I have a Gateway zx4800) and I recently downloaded the driver I needed (also x64bit) and I have set-up and installed what I needed to do and I even restarted, and still nothing. I even tried to set-up a wireless connection myself and it told me to wait 90 seconds, but nothing showed up for me to sent anything up, so my mind is just completely boggled.

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 17R N7710) isn't recognizing usb 3.0 devices. I've tried an ADATA S102 Pro flash drive and a Seagate external harddrive (don't know specifics, it was my friends), and have tested it on his laptop too, so it's not a product deficiency. I've attempted updating drivers but that hasn't worked. With the initial update of the Renesas driver, it recognized my device for less than a minute, and then disappeared. The device does work on my 2.0 slot.
RENESAS/NEC Drivers & Firmwares
I used the first link on that site to update my drivers as it appeared to be the most recent, I also updated my chipset to see if that would work.
