Uninstalled ATI Drivers + Used Driver Sweeper = No USB On Restart?

Oct 19, 2011

I've been messing around with various drivers to try and get the game "RAGE" working. Which is an exercise in futility but to make this tumultuous process more agravating I've somehow inadvertently uninstalled my USB drivers drivers as well. This wouldn't be an issue, except that my computer has no PS2 ports.

long version:I used "GPU caps viewer" to check my driver driver version on my graphics card (ATI Radeon XFX 6790) as I'd not noticed a change in my gaming performance and I was unsure if the "11.10 preview 2" drivers drivers had been installed properly. "GPU caps viewer" said I was still running 11.8 which is what I had before I tried changing drivers last time. So I guessed that my drivers had not changed dispite the fact I uninstalled/reinstalled using the guide on the AMD /ATI site. So on a bunch of sites I saw people were using "DriverDriver Sweeper" to get rid of the registry files and hidden bits of the ATI/AMD drivers and softwaredrivers. I used this application, it found the drivers left overs and removed it and then asked if i wanted to reboot. At this point the drivers are "uninstalled" and the generic windows driver is working because my resolution/aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and wont go 16:10/16:9. AND more importantly my USB devices were all still working.I restart the computer and It loads windows and I try to type my password and nothing happens, The mouse cursor is in the middle of the screen and I can not move it, and there are no lights on my keyboard. The optical sensor in the bottom of my mouse also does not light up.

I restart again, and check the BIOS, all USB ports are enabled, so I try booting in to safe mode. I can use my keyboard to work in the BIOS, and to select "Safe mode with networking" (vs safe mode with out). When safe mode loads, same issue. No power to USB devices. I tested a bunch of devices; xbox controler; USB memory stick, external HDD etc. and none work. I don't know what to do; the mouse and keyboard work in the recovery partition installed on my HDD, but I really don't want to lose all that data. Ill probably end up using a live CD of linux to get my files and then format the PC if I can't figure out how to fix this.

ATI Radeon XFX 6790

Deleted All The NVidia Drivers And Stuff In Safe Mode Using Driver Sweeper?

Feb 13, 2011

I have what most of you would class as a legacy machine. I self build this pc just before AGP got phased out, then had a kid and now cant afford to continue rig building. What I have is what I have, upgrading components isn't an option, unfortunately. So I have had a GeForce 7600gt card running in my rig for some time as that was, as far as I knew, the best AGP card I could get (didn't really want Radeon as nVidia have always been great)Recently I upgraded my Little Bro's pc for him and stumbled across the ASUS AH4650 AGP, which I gather is just the Radeon re-labeled. With a little bit of frigging about I got it installed and working fine on his machine and thought it would be great in my rig.

Off I went and purchased myself one, deleted all the nVidia drivers and stuff in safe mode using driver sweeper. Ran ccleaner to make sure all residual stuff was gone. Installed the card and rebooted. This is where the fun started.I have tried installing the current Catalyst Control centre for AGP, device manager see's AH4650 but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatremoved everything and installed the AGP 11-1 Hotfix, device manager see's AH4600 series but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatremoved everything and installed just the drivers manually, device manager see's AH4650 but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatI have tried many of the suggestions here but always seem to be coming to a loss and I'm not a noob when it comes to PC's.

It's bound to be something to do with the nforce3 drivers conflicting but obviously that was unsupported pretty much as soon as vista came out.this is driving me mad. I don't really want to have to return the card. I dont play games on my rig it's more for HTPC but the 7600gt is struggling with High Def and Bluray stuff

Anyone Use Driver Sweeper ?

Nov 8, 2009

Does anyone thoroughly use driver sweeper before installing new drivers, or do you just install new drivers over the old? The app can remove a number of key drivers, namely ATI, Nvidia, and Realtek among others.

Basically, uninstall the drivers from control panel, reboot into safe mode, run driver sweeper, reboot again into safe mode, and install the new drivers. Then a final reboot into 7. You can run Sweeper again, but I don't think that's necessary. I find everything is slightly smoother.

Windows 7 AMD64 Directories Deleted By Driver Sweeper

Dec 31, 2010

A few months ago I've been having problems with my graphic card (MSI R5850 Twin Frozr II 1GB) and PC as it was having BSOD's 24/7. When I was using driver sweeper for my graphic drivers, I think it deleted a directory or two too far. Sorted it out by cleanly installing on a old HDD, and then moving the directories he listed and its files over. Any info about these directories/folders have files in them, what they are called, And if possible can they be moved from one PC to another (e.g. from a friends)? Or are they directories only relative to the persons PC?

BSOD - Uninstalled Trend Micro AV - Power Driver State Failure?

Jul 15, 2012

I uninstalled Trend Micro Business Security from my 1 year old Dell Vostro (Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit) a few days ago and since then have had recurrent spontaneous shutdown most times with a BSOD Power Driver State Failure. In Device Manager, it showed a Virtual CD drive with a yellow exclamation point - I uninstalled the program that created the virtual drive but I still have spontaneous BSOD. I tried a System Restore but it failed to help the situation.I attached my zip files of jcgriff2 and my perfmon html file.

System Hosed After Running Standalone Sweeper?

Jul 15, 2011

Downloaded the beta of the Microsoft's new rootkit/malware detection utility that runs from a bootable CD that you create after downloading. Not a bad idea conceptually - boot the system from a known clean, read only medium and have that clean OS perform a scan of your hard drive.I was interested and curious so I ran it. It found what it deemed malware, mostly in very old e-mail archives from Outlook Express, but in a few other places as well. For each item it found it had a recommended action (for example 'disinfect', delete, quarantine, etc.). I told it to go ahead and perform the recommended actions.A window with a progress bar popped open and it started trucking along briskly, but progress began to slow geometrically, and soon the progress bar was not moving at all. I could see the disk access light flashing on the screen, but absolutely no signs of life from the display. I waited an hour and it hadn't budged, but the disk access light was still flashing.finally decided to reboot. Held the button in for the requisite 5 seconds and the reboot started. It noted that the last shutdown had been 'improper', so it performed some clean-up and then booted. Got to the login page where the various accounts are displayed and I thought I was out of the woods. But after a few seconds a C++ error box popped up saying that my video driver (nvvsvc.exe) had been asked to shut down in an unusual way.I didn't know quite what to make of that, but decided to log in. And that is where I have been for the last week. After keying in the password for any of the accounts, I get the message "Preparing Your Desktop" which just hangs there. If I do a ctrl/alt/del I can get a menu that allows me to start Task manager, but that is it. The desktop and explorer bar never come up. I've tried running Control Panel utilities by using the New Task button in Task Manager, but they all give error messages where the error box doesn't have the name of the program but rather one of those long GUID type strings inside the curly braces {} telling me that I don't have access to run the program. Even though I am logged in on an account with administrator privileges. So that is the lay of the land. I am able to run non-Windows programs from Task manager, and a few Windows utilities (for example msconfig), but I can't add / remove programs and that is a real problem because, from what I understand, if I want to try to do a 'Repair Install', I need to first uninstall SP1 (my original media was pre-SP1).

Graphics And Mousepad Drivers Fail To Load On Restart?

Oct 5, 2010

Ok so I recently moved from vista to windows 7 and everything is great except that about 40% of the time when I restart my computer, the mousepad and video card drivers don't load up. The mousepad stops responding and the resolution goes to 800x600. When I look in device manager those two drivers say they failed to initialize and need a restart, I will post the exact error messages soon. Then when I restart everything runs fine. But this consistently happens, I believe it happens everytime I install something new and then restart. I can't figure out how to stop this from happening, anyone know what to do?

Win 7 Keeps Installing Its Own Driver On Restart

Aug 6, 2009

I've read a bunch of posts of this happening to people too but it doesn't seem like there was a permanent solution to any of them. I just installed windows 7 on a dell dimension 3000 and im using the onboard video. Everytime i reboot it wants to automatically install the "Standard VGA Display Driver" even though I uninstall it and install the Intel Display Driver that works much better and actually plays movies.

I even moved the display.inf out of the windows folder but now when i restart it still trys to install another driver over the one i have and just says that it cant find the driver for the device. And since I cant install the drivers then plug the device in, i'm kind of stuck in a rut right now. Any suggestions?

TuneUp Utilities Cannot Be Uninstalled

May 18, 2012

I have been trying to remove the (trial version) of TuneUp Utilities 2012 from my computer for over 3 weeks. My computer was hesitating and slow to respond to mouse clicks. So, I took a look at this program that cleans up old files, but, decided not to buy it. Mostly out of fear that this was another attempt to create a problem and charging a fee to fix it. The TuneUp Utilities file has been on my computer ever since. I have already uninstalled the program from my Control Panel and I tried Revo Uninstaller Pro (free version). It removed itself from Revo but not from my Program Data files. Another form of web deception where you enter the problem name to a list and they remove it from that list you just created. I can move it around but not into the recycle bin. What is this thing? How can I not have permission to do what I want on my own computer? XP would never do that! Please help me remove TuneUp Utilities 2012 from my computer.I am using Win 7 Pro w/XP mode, SP1, 64bit, i7, IE9.

Errors: You need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes. You need permission to do anything with this file. In fact, I have been using Win 7 without permission ever since I upgraded to it one year ago. My computer still hesitates and is still slow to respond to mouse clicks. The TuneUp Utilities Company is very cooperative though. If you ask the company (aka TuneUpMedia) for help they will eventually sell you another download that will not remove it either..After many emails they will do anything but that. I can uninstall it from my control panel but not from here:C:ProgramDataTuneUp SoftwareTuneUp SoftwareTuneUp Utilities 2012TTUSvclrt.tt or TTUSvc.tt

Nov 22, 2012

I downloaded an old game that I wanted to play again it finished downloading I installed it. Though it didn't install in the folder I wanted it to so I uninstalled it and started the installation again. Went through the process and put in the correct pathing D: program files (x86) it selected and smart highlighted program files x86 for me so i hit enter and the installer thought I was finished with the pathing when I was not and it went ahead and installed the game to that path.So once again I uninstalled the game and this time ... it uninstalled everything within "Program Files (x86) from A to L before I realized what was happening .. I quickly ctrl shift esc'd and canceled that process for the uninstaller and now alot of items are missing so many I don't even know what is gone.Unfortunately I do not enable system restore on any of my drives because I know malware can hide in there and some people recommend to keep it off.is there any way without using system

Log Of Programs Uninstalled In Windows 7?

Jun 16, 2012

I was dealing with a creepy redirecting malware and I was connecting to bleepingcomputer.com a few times. I went back to connect to bleepingcomputer.com and the connection failed. I did some diagnosis and the detailed info said "The device or resource (www.bleepingcomputer.com) is not set up to accept connections on port The World Wide Web service (HTTP)." This was the only site that seemed to be targeted - I could connect to all other sites as far as I could tell.I used Malwarebytes and it found and removed a few files and one directory. I still could not connect to Bleepingcomputer. I looked through the programs that had been installed and found wone I did not recognize - which was installed just about the time of my problems. Then I made a mistake - I uninstalled it without getting a screen shot or writing down the name. The good news - I could now connect to Bleeping computer - but Id like to find out what the ell that was.

IE 8 Not Working Correctly After IE 9 Is Uninstalled

Jun 30, 2011

I am a computer tech that works with a wide variety of operating systems. However, a client of mine got a brand new HP with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit pre-installed. Everything was working, but he installed IE 9. Web applications were taking too long to load, so he uninstalled it using the add / remove programs.

This is where it gets interesting. IE 8 seems to work, until you try to download something interactively. For example I went to adobe.com and tried to install Acrobat Reader, the download would not begin.

I tried to install chrome, however the auto-install would not start. When I chose the standalone install for chrome, the direct link to download worked.

The customer uses webmail and in IE he can log into his email, view the emails, but can't delete. When he selects an email and clicks the delete button, the page refreshes, but the email is not deleted.

So I can't uninstall IE 8, I can only turn it off in the Windows Component applet, and I don't see a full install of IE 8 either. He needs IE for some of the web applications he is using in his business, so we need to get IE working. how to fully remove and reinstall IE 8?

After Installing ATI Driver, Restart But Shows Nothing

Aug 6, 2009

I'm still 3 days old to Windows 7 and i had this problem.

I installed the latest driver for Windows 7 for my display card ATI HD3870 and downloaded the driver from the official website.

My problem is, after installing the driver.

The installer didn't prompt me to restart the computer.

But since my notification area didn't appear any of ATI icon so i restart it.

But yet after restarting my pc i still don't see any icon and i went to check program files and i saw ati technologies but inside it i don't see a single item.

It's an empty folder.

So did i went to device manager and right click on my display driver and press update driver but it says I'm on the latest driver already.

How To Delete Uninstalled Hidden Updates

Sep 21, 2011

Windows Updates recently automatically installed two .NET 4 updates. Almost immediately my system began misbehaving: my Firefox Booksmarks toolbar disappeared along with all the bookmarks it held, the shutdown/sleep/lock/logoff button in the start menu changed selection each time the Start menu was opened, desktop icons moved and/or disappeared each time the desktop was opened.

I uninstalled the two updates (Kb2468871 and Kb 2533523) and the system returned to normal.

I hid those 2 updates and changed my update setting to "notify but don't download" so MS doesn't install .NET updates I didn't know about BUT I am concerned that those 2 updates are still stored in my system.

I know that Windows stores updates in C:WindowsSoftware DistributionDownload. My dilemma is that there are more than 30 folders/files stored there and I can determine the contents of only the 2 folders. I can't open the files so I don't know which of them to delete to remove the .NET 4 updates. I've been installing MSE updates manually for the past week.

How can I clear my system of those 2 hidden .NET updates?

Ntoskrnl.exe Causes System To Restart After Driver Update

Jun 18, 2012

over the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000D" and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers. But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).

System specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Intel i5
Gigabyte P55M-UD2
ATI Radeon 4800
