So i was trying to get my ps3 controller to work with my win 7 x64, installing some USB drivers.. when i rebooted, windows would immediately de-power all USB. nothing will even charge.. even in safe mode. I tried last known good config and nothing..
the devices work is BIOS and system recovery (win 7 cd in).
I just have HP i5 mother board replaced by manufacture. Apparently it does recognizes my external hard drives (3 units).it makes sound when I plug them on or unplug, the hard drives picture or icon were not registering on my screen on "my computer". it does recognizes the flash drives with no problem. I'm not pc savy as most of you probably are, thus why I'm here seeking your expert advice. For some reason media player12 is not working. It fails to read any type of discs. My store bought cds or dvds. Nothing will play. It was working fine as I was able to burn a cd from my music files but now no longer works at all. I recently had the mother board replaced and main power source as well. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not. All settings I went through and think they are correct but not entirely sure. All drivers come back as working and windows claims all is up to date. If anyone could assist me with this issue I'd be very grateful! Please however try to make the instructions as simple as possible as i'm not too familiar with pc terminolgy yet,
I've recently been fooling around with ubuntu, and my latest install attempt did something to my local drive. I don't know what, but my drive no longer recognizes any OS (usually windows 7, 32bit) on the system at all. On boot, I receive the message:
"verifying DMI pool data ............. Boot from CD/DVD. : Error: no such device : b2359ea5-e528-475a-819f-16885f1ed60e. Grub rescue> -blinking underscore-"
I've tried setting boot priority to hard disk, but it doesn't work.
I run Windows 7 on two of machines. One runs flawlessly. The other ran flawlessly for about a month or two, and then I started getting a rather odd problem. The OS fails to recognize my (mostly) left mouse clicks for random periods of time, say 5 seconds to like 60 seconds. It'll work, then it'll stop, then it'll work... etc. Obviously this is extremely frustrating. Thinking it's the mouse, I tried another mouse - same problem.
Both mice are USB, but it does not seem to be an issue with the USB ports as my keyboard and other USB peripherals work fine. Running the C2D Extreme Quad core from a couple of years ago, X38 chipset board, 4870x2. I formatted and reinstalled the first time this problem came up, and it started again within a few hours of the reinstall. All I've got installed besides my drivers are:
I recently built the computer that I am on and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Everything's been working great and no updates have had issues installing until SP1 came out today. It fails every time with error code 80004005, unknown error. I am fairly certain that it is due to the Windows Mail hack. Unfortunately, I've already tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as well. As for trying the service pack install again, I have tried it multiple times, both through Windows Update and the full installation package downloaded from microsoft.com.
my laptop recently just started to fail with failure in the video card (l4d2 vertical bar crash and same iwth Internet)and now i'm trying to recover by using hp recovery discs, but it's not working!!!it installs and then when it says "customizing software" it just freezes and hard-resets itself.then when i turn it back on, it says "setup is preparing computer for first use" then the welcome screen then an error message/sound -> "windows could not complete the installation. to install windows on this computer, restart the installation"and then it shuts down and restarts itself. is it possibly a hardware error? before the recovery i had video issues with computer constantly failing to load 3d games or even Internet at times.
I have a new Dell E6520 running Enterprise 64bit. I need the virtual XP to run some older software. Following the instructions, I successfully installed Windows XP modeNext step is to install Virtual PC. The installation of KB958559 appeared successful, but when I restarted the computer it got to about 95% and reported configuration failure.
I have an intermittent problem with my Windows 7 programme installed on my laptop. Very occasionally when I boot it will fail to launch stating that certain files cannot be found. I didn't record exact message but it is a system 32 file error.
I am able to reboot as the start launch is there, although it resembles the old 98 start launch, and it starts up again without issue.
I know it is vague but has anyone else experienced this? It affects me say 1 out of every 25 boots.
Using Laplink, PCMover, I migrated all of my files, apps, etc, from my old Dell laptop (windows XP Home Edition) to my new Toshiba Satellite L755-S5169 laptop, running on Windows 7. The transfer went fine, except, every time I try to go online, there is no wireless connection. I have to go through several steps to get on our wireless network, but, it fails again on reload. I cannot get online, yet, my old computer and our other laptop both get on our wireless quickly and easily. I want to put my old laptop away and rely on the new one, but
on my Win7 desktop machine, DNS lookups started failing, I can ping 4.2.2.2 .Ii can access my web servers by IP , but even nslookup replies 'No response from server" , tried server 4.2.2.2, server 8.8.4.4,I have tried multiple Name server settings, all other devices on my home network are doing fine, its like DNS is blocked, I have shutdown firewalls, flushed dns, registered dns, even onlined a different Ethernet card, Eset NOD32 runs clean, Commodo FW is clean, all VPN software is removed,y Ideas ? I am 20 yr comp geek so don't hesitate to suggest something complex this is strange, only on one workstation too. I think i have a glitch in the registry for the IP stack or some kind of dns client hijack is getting past my NOD32 and Windows security
excess ie9 crashes prompted me to attempt a fix, i uninstalled ie9, updated the ie8 that was left after a restart, had the ie9 downloaded, after updating ie8 fully, tried to reinstall ie9, but installation aborted with Troubleshoot problems when you cannot install Internet Explorer 9 as my only recourse. i tried the fixit wizard, which just deleted adobe flash, but gave the same error message, and on rerunning it, said there were no errors to fix, so now i'm using firefox, ie8?
Although originally working, now W7 backup will not work.I am running 32bit UltimateI have emptied the backup drive, started a whole new backup - the back up starts ..uns to about 80% of progress bar ... then fails with message Backup failed to omplete. The error code is ox81000015This says that Windows could not zip a file... and to remove any of 3 listed programs ... none of which I have installed. To be safe I also removed 7zip (even though not listed) another 2 Hr attempt and again fails
I tried to create a disk image using the Windows 7 feature. The creation failed with a message that chkdsk /r should be run on the source and destination HDs. Destination HD was error free. Source HD had bad clusters replaced in five files.Second attempt to create a disk image failed with the same message. There are no system symptoms, everything seems to be working as usual.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1721 connected to a new Seagate external hard drive. The Inspiron has 280GB of which 85 are free. The Seagate has 465GB with 445GB free.Several times I have attempted to back up the Inspiron and so far have been unsuccessful. The message I get is:Your last backup did not complete successfully.Windows Backup could not create a zip file. This could because the drive that Windows is installed on does not have enough space, or it could be a temporary error. Make sure you have at least 400MB of free space and try again.
I recently acquired a used computer and put the hard drive from my old one into the new one and it would freeze and at the Windows boot logo and then BSOD. The previous owner suggested that I get a new hard drive as the motherboard is having issues reading an already formatted hard drive. I decided to recover the bootloader by following these steps: [code] You will need to replace C:\ in the example below with the letter for your boot drive! It's most likely C:, but it could be something else!attrib -h -s C:\boot\BCD..Now it takes me to the Windows Boot Manager and says that winload.exe (0xc0000428) Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

This is the second install on older hardware (Intel 945gm chipset) within two months that has IE9 unreliability, with some sites failing to render at all.I have reinstalled flash player, Java, reset Internet Options to default, and it still just hangs there. This is very annoying. I had a similar situation two months ago and ended up installing Firefox to solve it. Is this a known issue? Is there are decent troubleshooter?
Basically, my computer fails so start-up sometimes (My motherboard produces a long beeep sound. GPU not running at all, but the rest of the components seems to be running - eg. USB, Ethernet etc). Also, it will sometimes freeze while running some basic programs which are not really RAM or GPU demanding such as web browsers. Finally, BSOD whenever I'm running some graphically intensive games (which theoretically, my computer should be able to handle.I've ran memtest86 for each of my ram and there were no signs of any ram defunct. Therefore, I'm speculating that the problem is either the GPU, CPU or the Motherboard itself. However, I'm not sure which one should I change. I've attached my 3 dump files, all of which seems to point to different sources of error.[CODE]
Activating a "restart" causes the computer to close (black screen) but blue light on start button remains on and the pc does not restart. This is an intermittent situation: around 50% of the time. A possibly not unrelated problem is that the pc does not go into sleep mode,
I have a Gateway NV79 laptop.Just today my computer went from working just fine to the none of the programs running.I cannot open Word, Firefox, Add/Remove programs, images, anything. The loading icon flickers intermittently before ceasing. I once received the error message "there was a problem sending the command to the program."I am posting this from another computer.I have researched the problem and explored various errors and virus fixes and none of them totally address my issue. So far I have restarted the system, restarted it in safemode, completed a system restore to three days ago, and another system restore to twelve days from ago.I am not technologically adept.
Windows 7 32bit on Dell 9200 4 GB RAM 2 x 500GB HDD ... with all OS updates.Been working fine.today left PC running, returned to it, power but screen was 'black'Power off to reboot - on start up (normal) desktop paints in, the spinning wheel runs for ages, then eventually all seems fine but can't do anything, only action is cursor .. nothing clickable. (incl Ctl+alt+del) HDD led on PC running permanently.Reboot in safe mode ... chose system restore .. and it shows a Windows Critical update restore point .. at a time that matches failure.?OK tried restore ... still the same.Tried Windows 7 repair disk, again selected restore ... Tried restore to next previous (2 days ago) all seems to go well, get login, desktop paints in ... then screen goes black ... all that is on it is cursor.
The only other points I can think of is that this morning (last successful boot up) it brought up a pop-up "Express files updated" with recommendation to run it ... as it gave no program, or manufacturer ... I chose not to run.On one of the boot ups during problem .an unfamiliar icon showed on desktop. "Homegroup", a green sphere, surrounded by 3 orbiting blue spheres" although not been there on any subsequent boot up.
its a acer corei5 home premium 64bit,, recently i was deleting some files from my documents.. i dont know if i have included to delete some the default program files to run the windows normally, then one morning when i turned on my laptop,, boot manager windows with blue stripe above and gray body with 3 options that i dont even know what it means.. when i try to open one of the options i hear a very sharp sound that goes on with the beat of the hard disk,, start-up manager comes out,, but after repairing.. boot manager window still shows everytime i turn-on my laptop.. i do further research on the internet and try system recovery tools on my disk,, i tried one-by-one including commands such as: bootrec.exe /FixMbr; bootrec.exe /FixBoot and so-on but everytime i turned it on, the same problems exist.. i also have tried sfc /scannow.. problems still exist.. it seems the only problem of my laptop is the START-UP,, because honestly theres an option of 'start windows normally" and my pc works fine after that.. but again when i turn it off and turn it on again.. the same problem display.. i also tried restore options for so many times.. tried all those tools for so many times.. but still my start-up problems still exist.. it seems my laptop is loop into different events that i;m doing with it
I have a netbook that came with the starter edition. I am trying to install the pro edition over it. The install dies and tells me I cannot install it and I need to select Windows Anytime Upgrade instead. However, that will not accept my license key from my pro edition. Am I stuck with a disk I cannot use now?One of the install choices was to do a clean install and lose all of my files, applications, and settings. Is that my only choice?
I'm back with another issue. I'm setting up a PC for recording TV and it needs Windows 7 or Vista as the OS (since they come pre-installed with Media Center). This is the PC.The specs are also included: Shuttle XPC Barebone. It contains 2GB DDR2 ram and a 500GB Seagate HDD.During the windows installation (either Windows 7 or Vista) three things can, happen,-When the disc boots up, the GUI of the installation freezes and hangs. indefinitely.-When windows begins to install and expand the files, the PC will reboot randomly.-During install, the screen will go black with only a few red pixels present.*This happens with both 32/64bit installations.I tried putting in a different video card to see if that was the issue, but no dice. Also, I know this system can run windows vista/7 because my father is using the same exact PC model (SN68SG2) and is running Vista ultimate 32bit just fine.I have already diagnosed the RAM and HDD and they are in working order. For some reason, the only OS that installs without issues is XP. Worse case scenario, I can get XP media center edition, but I'd have to obtain a disc or iso to even test it out.
Running Vista Home Premium X64 and trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium X64. The install fails the installer's compatibility test with the message "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading.Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. For these items, make the following changes:Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program". Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 ".However, Trend Micro Internet Security was uninstalled from this computer at least a year ago and I can find no evidence of any shreds of it being present - not in the programs list, not in the file system and not in the registry.
I'm upgrading from Vista SP1 (which was actually upgraded from XP a year ago) to Windows 7 RTM and after 4 hours the install fails with the message "This version of Windows could not be installed, Your previous version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it."
I tracked down the error logs and here's the log at C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther

Unless someone can decipher all this I'll just wait until I can get a new hard drive and do a clean install.
Read most of the many threads on this subject. I have turned off Sleep using Control Panel, Editing the Registry, disabling hybrid computer as described in this forums tutorial. The Start/Sleep button is not grayed out and still shuts down the computer although the automatic timed sleep mode seems to be eliminated. Moving or clicking the mouse does not wake up the computer as originally. I have to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then press the power button. I think the computer then comes back up w/o the windows sign-on window as if awakening from Sleep. Windows 7 initializtion is very slow.
Problem with Sleep arose after installing an external drive enclosure with a sata hd and using the esata interface which did not work and caused loss of 2nd internal hard drive.I do not mind the automatic sleep mode if the computer would awaken properly.Forgot to mention the following: Even though the Sleep recovery does not work, the computer responds to Restart and turn on from power shut down normally in its usual quick fashion.
