Vista Drivers - Are They Safe On W7 ?
Dec 7, 2009
I currently have a HP Pavilion dv6799ep running Windows Vista Premium 32-bit, but I got a new license for Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I would like to know if the Windows Vista 64-bit drivers will work on this version.

I've just updated my Acer Notebook to Windows 7. I've installed all the drivers that Acer supplies for Windows 7.
But what about the drivers that are not supplied? Should I install the ones that Acer supplies for Vista or stick with the 'pre-installed' drivers by Windows 7 ... Everything seems to work with the pre-installed ones.
And how do I check wether or not the Intel Turbo Memory is working correctly?

I used clonezilla to copy the data on my laptop drive to an external 640gb drive I had. The cloning process went fine but when I went to boot on the 640gb drive I (expectantly) got a blue screen error. Now, the way to fix this would be to boot into safe mode and delete the drivers but for some reason every time I boot and press the f8 button it brings me into the Windows Error Recovery mode menu which has no options for safe mode and doesn't help at all.

In general, can Vista drivers be used in Windows 7? I notice some of my equipment has drivers for Vista, but not W7. Is this because the manufacturer simply has not got around to producing W7 drivers?ermissions - Is there a way to take ownership of the entire hard drive? It seems like every time I turn around I have another folder that will not allow me to interact without changing the permissions.

I have got GF8600GT. Can I safely use Vista 64-bit nVidia drivers?
The reason I don't want nVidia drivers for Windows 7 is this:
How to REALLY set lower screen resolution?

I used to have Vista 32-bit on here and I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. The problem is that the Sony website doesn't release Windows 7 64-bit drivers for my model as it is only sold with Vista 32-bit.
http://esupport.sony.com/CA/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNCR590CE
As you can see, there is no drop down menu anywhere to select which operating system I have.
And here:
http://esupport.sony.com/CA/perl/os7upgrade.pl?stage1=24&stage2=%20&stage3=VGN-CR590CE&month=&day=&year=&mdl=VGN-CR590C
it says that Windows 7 is not supported. (I have ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and my computer seemed to check out and pass all the system requirements.)
Can anyone help me out with finding where all necessary driver updates for my computer are, as many things I've noticed either don't function the same or at all as they used to when I had Vista?
Here's a list of all the problems that I've noticed so far.
- Scroll on touch pad didn't work (Resolved by downloading Synaptics drivers, although the official drivers would be nice.)
- Plugging into the headphone jack didn't do anything (Resolved by downloading Realtek drivers)
- Volume buttons change the volume in very tiny increments and doesn't show the levels on screen (Major issue for me.)
- Doesn't support Dual/Multi Monitors
- Doesn't recognize MIDI Controllers (Resolved. Not sure how.)
- Card reader doesn't work. (Another major problem.)
- Webcam doesn't work. (Built-in mic seems to work fine.)
- "AV Mode" button does nothing (I've never had a use for this button but before it would make the whole screen go black.)
- Function commands on keyboard don't work (ie. Fn + F5/F6 for brightness up/down)
I'm really worried that the drivers that would resolve these issues don't exist!

Now the windows doesn't respond when it works and only the mouse fan move, but with cursor in position of loading. ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work and only shut down the computer can work. I tried use "safe mode" and the sound driver didn't work. I succeeded to do recovery two times but the problem repeat on itself. I tried to scan for virus but there wasn't. How can I handle it?

I have what most of you would class as a legacy machine. I self build this pc just before AGP got phased out, then had a kid and now cant afford to continue rig building. What I have is what I have, upgrading components isn't an option, unfortunately. So I have had a GeForce 7600gt card running in my rig for some time as that was, as far as I knew, the best AGP card I could get (didn't really want Radeon as nVidia have always been great)Recently I upgraded my Little Bro's pc for him and stumbled across the ASUS AH4650 AGP, which I gather is just the Radeon re-labeled. With a little bit of frigging about I got it installed and working fine on his machine and thought it would be great in my rig.
Off I went and purchased myself one, deleted all the nVidia drivers and stuff in safe mode using driver sweeper. Ran ccleaner to make sure all residual stuff was gone. Installed the card and rebooted. This is where the fun started.I have tried installing the current Catalyst Control centre for AGP, device manager see's AH4650 but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatremoved everything and installed the AGP 11-1 Hotfix, device manager see's AH4600 series but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatremoved everything and installed just the drivers manually, device manager see's AH4650 but I get "no ati drivers installed or installed incorrectly" or something like thatI have tried many of the suggestions here but always seem to be coming to a loss and I'm not a noob when it comes to PC's.
It's bound to be something to do with the nforce3 drivers conflicting but obviously that was unsupported pretty much as soon as vista came out.this is driving me mad. I don't really want to have to return the card. I dont play games on my rig it's more for HTPC but the 7600gt is struggling with High Def and Bluray stuff

Vista 32-bit Host connected direct to an HP printer - works fine. Win7 64-bit laptop connected direct to same HP printer - works fine. Win7 64-bit laptop printing via Vista 32-bit host - no go.
I've tried installing the 64-bit driver on the 32-bit Vista machine. I've also tried installing the 32-bit driver on the Win7 laptop. In both cases, Windows and the HP website give me the runaround and insure me that all necessary drivers will auto-install via Plug-n-Pray. But this is not the case. Unable to find driver downloads easily.

Is it a good idea to Install vista 64 bit motherboard drivers in windows seven?
I have asus p5w dh deluxe motherboard.
Windows Seven is running ok, but the harddisk score is a good deal less when compared to vista.
So, is this a good idea or better leave it alone at the moment?

I am currently experiencing slow performance on a Windows 7 RC 7100 laptop.
I have run RadarSync and all drivers are up to date, however when I check the device manager, the following have exclamation marks;
- Mass Storage Controller
- PCI Simple Communications Controller
- Unknown Device
I am considering installing the Manufacturers Drivers for VISTA via "Troubleshoot Compatibility" mode as opposed to the Windows Supplied drivers.

I'm having this really weird problem.
I am currently running a GeForce 9500 GT on vista and have tried upgrading to Windows 7 release candidate 1 from Vista. The problem is, Windows 7 doesn't like the Nvidia drivers I have on my system. So I uninstalled them. Completely. Restarted. Tried the upgrade again, and boom! Still can't upgrade because Nvidia drivers / nview desktop manager (yes, that is what it says).
I have literally restarted my computer 20 times, uninstalling, reinstalling and whateverinstalling. I have no idea what to do in order to upgrade to windows 7. The drivers or my actual hardware is not letting me upgrade.

I have a brand new Toshiba laptop with Vista. It arrived just a few days before the Windows 7 release so I put the Toshiba aside and waited for the free Windows 7 upgrade disk, which just arrived.
Since I haven’t used the Toshiba yet, there’s no data or personal programs to protect. I don’t want to keep Vista, and of course I don’t want to keep all the bloatware. Currently, Vista is on the C disk; there is a recovery or backup partition (D); and E is free for data. The Toshiba did not come with a Vista restore disk so I will burn recovery disks with Vista before I install Windows 7.
Like everyone, I want a fresh, clean sparkling brand-new install of Windows 7. I can follow the tutorials to boot from the Windows 7 upgrade disk, go to advanced tools and re-format the partition with Vista (i.e. C) and then install Windows 7. I should have no problem with registration or activation since Windows 7 will see Vista before it’s deleted. I’m not 100% clear whether the recovery partition (D) will be maintained but it shouldn’t matter much because I’ve got recovery disks … right?
My two questions:
1) Do I need to worry about losing my drivers in this scenario? Should I be taking a copy of all drivers ahead of time, and if so, is there somewhere (on the Toshiba) I can easily find them all? Or will they all be on the recovery disks I burn, should I need them?
2) What about the one or two Toshiba-specific programs I might want to keep, like Config-free and facial recognition software? Are they gone with the clean install, or can I also get them off the recovery disks (or recovery partition, if it still exists post-clean install)?
Is there anything else I need to know before I get started?? I’d like to make this as painless as possible ..

I got a Asus P5Q-E Mobo, 8gb ram
Having Windows 7 7077 x64 installed for one week and before the upgrade nearly 2 months with build 7000.
I bought a new gpu, and replaces my old 8500GTS with a new 9800GT,
Problem is, Windows find the gpu, installs standard driver. all fine.
Second, Install new Win beta 7 Drivers (was trying new vista x64 drivers too), and i got black screen and lockup half time in install progress and when doing a hard restart right before Loginscreen also.
Restart, and windows is doing reset, and old drivers back.
Trying to install several times. no luck with any settings or admin settings to install, same problem, black restart black reset, black restart black reset, black restart black reset.... etc etc.
Putting back the old gpu, install same drivers, power of, putt new gpu in, and its getting black...
What is the problem? I cant find any info in systemlogg either, but the gpu works with standard drivers from windows
I hope i havent missed anything
Edit: My psu is Corsair 650w, i got 10 HDs, and it uses max 220-260w what i have tested, a bit more while playing (old gpu)
I will get a Vertex SSD this week, maybe the problems solves when installing a fresh Windows 7 on it? Otherwise i hope someone knows the issue.
Edit2:
Updated Bios on Mobo, Adaptec 2405 and Rocketraid 2320, Still same issue.
I have noticed that the HD led blinks all the time with that gpu, and its gets very hot...
I plugged out the power of my 2x5hds hotswapmodule, so only one hd was active and same error accured, The problems dissapears when i but pack the old gpu.

I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.
NVidia Driver Version: 306.97

New laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have two business programs that won't run on a 64bit system. Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs. Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.
