View 2 Repliesmy toshiba satellite laptop sound on all programs (win media player, Internet etc.) sounds like digitized static. it will reset itself upon restart, but then at some point revert to static again. this follows suit with the login screen as it will look clear when sound is good, but then have scan lines going through it when sound is bad. this is following a complete wipe from windows vista and installing windows 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista. Before upgrading, everything was fine. Now, I have a rather annoying sound problem. When I play anything that uses flash, the program will freeze up and have to be ended. After this point, the sound on my computer is completely gone until I restart the system. Additionally, I cannot access the volume control panel or anything that deals with the sound settings after this particular event occurs. I've been doing a little bit of research, and it sounds like the IDT sound codec is the problem. I followed the instructions on this link to a point. Fixing Flash Crashes after Windows 7 Upgrade: IDT Sound Codec Conflicts with Flash Drivers Causing Crashes |[URL] Here are the instructions that it gives: Disabling Software at Boot:
Click on the Start button, and then click 'Run...'In the Run window, type msconfig and click 'OK'.Go to the 'Startup' tab and locate the Startup Item named IDT PC Audio by IDT, Inc.Uncheck the IDT PC Audio item.Click 'Apply', and then click 'OK'.Reboot the laptop for the change to take effect.
Disabling Enhancements:Click on the Start button, then click Control Panel, and click 'Sound' from the context menu.Highlight 'Speakers / Headphones' from the list of playback devices, then click on the 'Properties' button.Go to the 'Enhancements' tab, and check the checkbox labeled 'Disable all enhancements'.Click 'Apply', and then click 'OK'.Highlight 'Independent (R.T.C.) Headphones' from the list of playback devices, then click on the 'Properties' button.Go to the 'Effects' tab, and check the checkbox labels 'Disable System Effects'.Click 'Apply', and then click 'OK'.Click 'OK'.
My problem with following these instructions is that I do not have 'Independent (R.T.C.) Headphones' in the list of playback devices. The four playback devices that I have listed are 'Digital Output Device (HDMI)', 'Speakers and Dual Headphones','Independent Dual Headphones' and 'SPDIF (Digital Out via HP Dock)'. That being the case, I cannot disable the last portion of the IDT sound codec. As a result, my problem persists. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this. Would it be wise to just uninstall the idt sound codec altogether? My computer is the HP Pavillion dv7-2185dx Entertainment Notebook PC?
Working on a client's computer that was blue screening with Vista 32 bit HP desktop gl309aa. She cannot find the original Vista install CD. I determined that the culprit was probably the wifi driver, and hoped to install updated drivers for that, plus video card and sound card drivers. After much fiddling with the system, I finally got it started through Startup Repair long enough to install the video driver. I had to go through 2 sets of memory diagnostics to start it at all, since even safe mode was not working. When I went to do the sound card driver, it required an uninstall first, so I did that, and foolishly went along with the restart to finish the process. Lacking a sound card driver, it blue screened all over again. Tried everything, including many times with HP Recovery, but every time it blue screens before any process can complete. On top of this, while working on it, she had a power "flash" for a second, and now the system is missing BOOTMGR so it won't even try to boot into safe mode or anything else. I have the drivers on flash but cannot install them. I've decided to forget Vista (awful system anyway) and give her Windows 7 instead. Much more stable, and her data is backed up in case she loses it.
am I going to have any problems installing the Windows 7 if the computer still thinks it has no driver for the sound card? And is there a way to install the file before or during the Windows 7 installation so it will go smoothly? Again, BSOD every time I start HP recovery so there is no way to use that, and we will have a new Windows 7 CD to begin this process.
In general, can Vista drivers be used in Windows 7? I notice some of my equipment has drivers for Vista, but not W7. Is this because the manufacturer simply has not got around to producing W7 drivers?ermissions - Is there a way to take ownership of the entire hard drive? It seems like every time I turn around I have another folder that will not allow me to interact without changing the permissions.

I'm having this really weird problem.
I am currently running a GeForce 9500 GT on vista and have tried upgrading to Windows 7 release candidate 1 from Vista. The problem is, Windows 7 doesn't like the Nvidia drivers I have on my system. So I uninstalled them. Completely. Restarted. Tried the upgrade again, and boom! Still can't upgrade because Nvidia drivers / nview desktop manager (yes, that is what it says).
I have literally restarted my computer 20 times, uninstalling, reinstalling and whateverinstalling. I have no idea what to do in order to upgrade to windows 7. The drivers or my actual hardware is not letting me upgrade.
My Dell Studio XPS 435MT 920 i7, 6Gb, Vista 64BIT SP2 has motherboard Nvidea High Definition Audio 0-3 (total 4) Channels-Driver 1.3.12.0 in Device Manager and Realtec High Definition Audio x1-Driver 6.0.1.6602. All are indicating Working Properly. But my Vista system sounds and all audio movie/recording playback has suddenly vanished. I've tried to make sure all the software audio systems are not muted or turned off, disabled, all turned to max volume. The stereo/bass sytem works fine on another PC and that other working system also doesn't work on the Dell 435MT. This also happened some time ago and a system restore recovered it but now my restore has not worked (not old enough?). The only recent events are normal updates on system and drivers and a fault with an AcGenral.dll when an exe file is launched. The motherboard seems to work ok as tapping the microphone leads to sound out on the speakers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.
NVidia Driver Version: 306.97
I've just updated my Acer Notebook to Windows 7. I've installed all the drivers that Acer supplies for Windows 7.
But what about the drivers that are not supplied? Should I install the ones that Acer supplies for Vista or stick with the 'pre-installed' drivers by Windows 7 ... Everything seems to work with the pre-installed ones.
And how do I check wether or not the Intel Turbo Memory is working correctly?
I installed a driver for my sound card, only to find out that sound just wouldn't play on my laptop. (It says that the sound is playing, it's just that it isn't coming through the speakers.) I know that the drivers are updated, so if you're going to ask if my driver is updated, the answer to that is yes. At first, I had thought that it was only a problem with the driver, or the hard drive, but that's not it... I don't know what the problem is. I've tried looking for solutions online, but absolutely nothing worked.I don't want to be stuck with the generic "High Definition Audio Device" which will just mute the speakers at the most random times.

I used to have Vista 32-bit on here and I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. The problem is that the Sony website doesn't release Windows 7 64-bit drivers for my model as it is only sold with Vista 32-bit.

As you can see, there is no drop down menu anywhere to select which operating system I have.
And here:

it says that Windows 7 is not supported. (I have ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and my computer seemed to check out and pass all the system requirements.)
Can anyone help me out with finding where all necessary driver updates for my computer are, as many things I've noticed either don't function the same or at all as they used to when I had Vista?
Here's a list of all the problems that I've noticed so far.
- Scroll on touch pad didn't work (Resolved by downloading Synaptics drivers, although the official drivers would be nice.)
- Plugging into the headphone jack didn't do anything (Resolved by downloading Realtek drivers)
- Volume buttons change the volume in very tiny increments and doesn't show the levels on screen (Major issue for me.)
- Doesn't support Dual/Multi Monitors
- Doesn't recognize MIDI Controllers (Resolved. Not sure how.)
- Card reader doesn't work. (Another major problem.)
- Webcam doesn't work. (Built-in mic seems to work fine.)
- "AV Mode" button does nothing (I've never had a use for this button but before it would make the whole screen go black.)
- Function commands on keyboard don't work (ie. Fn + F5/F6 for brightness up/down)
I'm really worried that the drivers that would resolve these issues don't exist!
I need something that should not be charged for, as I already have your programs, I should be granted a FREE download for using your product
