Using 74GB SSD For Ready Boost Efficient?
Apr 15, 2012
I have an 80GB of course 74GB after formatted to NTFS.
I have too much crap on my system to use it as my primary drive. I don't feel like fighting for disk space at the end.
I was thinking of using the SSD drive for ReadyBoost and VM's. I am using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

On my HP G50-112NR Notebook, 32bit, I inserted a 16G Verbatim USB flash drive to learn about ReadyBoost. I clicked on "Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost," thinking that I could change my mind later and "undo" it. I can't!! The USB had a few files on it & Properties shows they are still there. Device Manager says the USB is working properly. But when I try to "Open" the drive, the resulting window says it's empty. I have tried clicking "Do not use. . ." but nothing happens. I want to Undo the ReadyBoost "dedication" & restore the USB to normal use. How do I do that? (Unless I receive some good advice, I'm going to Format the USB).

I've read about how Windows 7 is suppose to actually use readyboost. I have a spare 8GB Microcenter SD card. It's rated class 6.to use this on my computer? Should I go ahead and dedicate the entire 8GB?

I am using this little rinky-dink $9.00 PNY slider drive that my wife bought because she thought it was pretty, well little ole' me has now gone through 4 of the "fastest" flash drives on the market, the Sandisk Cruiser, the OCZ Rally 2, the Corsair Voyager and another larger PNY. None of them rate more than half the speed of this little slider flash drive. I consistently get 30W and 20R on all programs I try to test it with. Other Tests show much higher result too but let's just stick with the R/W for now.BTW, I also tried the Patriot XT Xtreme series but according to the manufacturer's it is not compatible with either Acronis products or Adobe, after hours and hours with tech support and 3 different drive we figured this out. The programs only work right if the drive is unplugged.

I have Windows 7 64 bit and 8 gb ram (the most that the MB will accept. I had a spare 16gb ready boost compatiable USB drive and used it for Ready Boost. Seems a little bit quicker. My question is this: ReabyBoost is addressing 4 GB of the 16gb. I think this is all it is supposed to do. Can I used the remain 12 gb for storage or as a working area for products without compromising Ready boost?

I have a question & hope it's not a duplicate... I plan to install Windows 7 64 bit when I get my copy in Oct. I will do a clean install on a virgin hard drive (WD Scorpio) and have seen a number of posts advising to get drivers to hand before starting the install.
My question is ... can a tool such as Drivermax be used now (ie on my current (Win XP Pro 32 bit) set up) to download the drivers I will require when I am on my Win 7 64 bit platform? ie can I tell (eg) Drivermax to not find Win XP 32 bit drivers but to find Win 7 64 bit drivers, even though Drivermax will no doubt detect that the request is coming from a Win XP 32 bit system, if you see what I mean... - does the program default to the OS it detects, or can you override that?

I am getting ready to install Win 7 on to a brand new Vertex 2 SSD to put in to my Samsung NC10 netbook. One thing that I have been reading about is setting BIOS to enable AHCI mode, but the downside is that my BIOS does not have a way for me to set that. I know the unit is capable of it because in older BIOS firmwares you could access hidden settings to change it.Anyway, is there another way for me to enable AHCI after installing Win 7? Also, does anyone else have any other suggestions about settings or do's/don'ts for installing Win 7 on a SSD?

I have a multi-account pc that the whole family uses with the following accounts:-
1. Admin
2. Kids
3. Media
I spent ages yesterday setting up GPO (kidslocked.msc) for my kids account and had to go through EACH individual setting. Eventually i got it spot on, but the only problem was that in the event of a problem, i wanted to be able to reset the settings, so that i can setup anything i need. I ended up downloading/running a file from this site:-
Where do i get a reset config file from for GPO?
That file has now reset my GPO settings, but it's also cleared the settings i saved for kidslocked.msc too.
Here is what i want to know:-
1. Can i get readymade GPO templates?2. If the answer to question 1 is NO, then how can i multi-select the settings??...i want to enable ALL settings in the Administrative Templates and then simply disable those that i don't want.

I've been through a very singular problem for the last few days.My Windows 7 suddenly become slow to make USB Mass storage devices ready to access, but this happens only the first time I connect them on my computer. If I start the computer and connect the USB Mass storage device (that was recognized a long time ago) it takes almost 1 minute to be ready for use... After that, every USB Mass storage device that I connect to the computer opens almost instantly. If I restart the computer, the same thing happens. I've tried to reinstall drivers, to disable security, looke for a service that controls it, verified the power options and verified every hardware.

The flyer that came with this month's PCA included a tip to utilise a blank USB flash drive for virtual memory. When I go to Properties/ReadyBoost on the USB drive, it says "This device cannot be used by ReadyBoost"Then it says "ReadyBoost is not enabled because the service responsible for ReadyBoost (Sysmain) has been turned off on this computer. An administrator can turn the Sysmain service back on"When I searched, including Microsoft website, there is no recognition of the term Sysmain.

First of all:I'm having a Creative Soundmaster Audigy 4 SE 7.1 soundcard and the (according to the Windows update manager) latest driver availabe.I recently installed Windows 7 because I always wanted to know how it was.Everything went fine, the Update Manager automatically installed all the drivers I needed, but now there's a problem with my audio settings.Since I've been switching over to Windows 7 people have told me that I'm very very quiet in Teamspeak or Skype, so I tried to activate the microphone boost in the audio settings. But when I open the settings of my microphone and click the "custom" tab, all I see is "Do not monitor".There's no microphone boost. I heard from some people they had the same problem under Windows Vista and solved it by switching to newer drivers, but alas, it seems I have the newest beta driver for Windows 7.
Is there any other way towards activating the boost or do I just have to wait until Creative releases a Windows 7 beta driver with microphone boost included?I also checked if the problem comes from my headset, but it's working fine under Windows XP with microphone boost enabled. The voice recognition experience

I recently upgraded my wireless router from a D-link Di-614 to a Linksys e3000. A buddy of mine recommended it saying he didnt have wifi issues from the top of his house all the way to the basement. I live in a bungalo home, and so the router is on one side of the house, and my Desk and macbook pro is on the otherside. Im getting 4 bars in windows 7, its showing good connectivity, but its constantly disconnecting, even when its stable, its running very slow. When im close to the router is works perfect. I design for a living and am constantly transferring files to clients. So this has become a problem, Im constantly having to unplug my laptop and walk over to the router to send/recieve large files. Any suggestion on what i can do? Could there be something wrong with the router or my laptop ?

I read a little about it at Intel's website that its for Core i7 (which I have), but when I try to install it I get an error box that my hardware is not supported.
Just curious if anyone knows anything about this driver and/or why I may not be able to install it.
