Upgrading To Windows 7 Makes Computer Run Way Hotter
Mar 13, 2011
so i recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from windows Vista on my laptop. This laptop is mainly used for gaming so i was a bit surprised when i was playing a game and my computer overheated and turned off for the first time in a year of having the laptop. I checked and even games like "lord of the rings online" that pushed my GPU to about 70 degrees on vista, now pushes the gpu to 100 or more. Is there any fix for this? or is my only option to return to windows vista?
So a few weeks ago I was in Sony Vegas editing a video and suddenly my mouse and keyboard both became unresponsive and a loud buzzing noise started coming out of my speakers. I left it for a few minutes but nothing happened, there was no blue screen of death, no error message, nothing. so the only thing I could do was force a restart.
Over the next few days the problem continued in graphical/CPU intensive programs (such as photoshop, Vegas, fsx, etc), and all I could do was restart. Not once did I see an error message. I did originally think that it was due to an overclocking (4.4 GHz) however I checked my temperatures and they didn't ever peak above 60-70.Neverthelss, I underclocked back to 3.3 but still experienced the problem. I read online that I should do a clean install of windows so I did that, and up until now I thought the problem was solved. And a couple of minutes ago I was playing age of empires and the computer froze and then The buzzing started again.
A buddy of mine insists that disabling Aero (Desktop Window Management / DWM.EXE) will slow your system down (lets assume it has a mid level graphic card). His logic is that Aero offloads some of the work to your GPU. Disabling it will increase CPU usage. My logic is that DWM.EXE uses a "significant" amount of CPU, regardless of what the GPU is doing. DWM.EXE on most systems I've seen is usually at the top of the list when I go to task manager and sort by "CPU TIME". It uses more CPU time then my browser, more then explorer, etc etc.So how can disabling it increase CPU usage? Where is this change reflected (which process shows increase CPU usage if you disable DWM)? How would you prove or disprove this?
I came across a video, and i had to upgrade my flash player to play it. I did, and ever since my computer has been restarting on its own, anytime it wants! Aldo, there's a reset password option thing when i start my computer, like someone is controling it! What's going on?
UPDATE : i unistalled FP and redawnloaded it, the pc hasnt restarted yet, though the net seems to be awefully slow!
Yesterday I was trying to upgrade my Old pc from xp 32bit to 7 64 bit and it did not work. I have run upgrade advisor on it and done a backup of all my files that are on it but it will not upgrade, I have also tried to upgrade to the 32 bit version of windows 7 but it didn't work either. Here are the specs of my computer: P5Q SE2 motherboard. 6gb ddr2 ram, Pentium 4 @ 3 ghz, not sure what the graphics + sound cards are and 2 sata 3gb/s hard drives.
The computer I am currently using is a 4 year old HP Pavillion a6430f (specs below), built to run the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. In May 2011, I first installed a 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Professional - some months thereafter, I began to run into repeated BSODs (unfortunately, I never wrote down the error codes). In October, I took the computer in for servicing, and was told that the hard drive failed. After it was replaced, I reconnected my computer (now running Vista again) and immeadiately (stupidly, perhaps) reinstalled my copy of Windows 7. Within several weeks, the problem resumed.I have only recently had time to get the computer serviced again, and it has been factory-reset to 32-bit Vista with another new hard drive. I don't expect my exact issue can be troubleshooted from this information, but I'd like to eliminate one of the variables. According to the system itself (information found in Control PanelSystem and MaintenancePerformance Information and ToolsView and print details), my computer is "64-bit capable". However, as I know little about hardware and the like, I ask: Could installing 64-bit Windows 7 on an originally 32-bit Windows Vista machine be causing hard drive failure/ BSOD problems?
[code] Other information: The latest hard drive that the repair shop has placed in this machine is a ~900 GB, 3.5" 7200 RPM Seagate ST1000DM 003-9YN162. The GeForce 9400 GT was also not present in the original computer (I made sure to install the correct drivers); nor was the power supply currently in it, which is around 400 watts (100 more than NewEgg's calculator said would be necessary to power the parts currently inside). I don't know if this info is too relevant, however; I am only asking whether the change of operating system is causing a negative effect.
I'm trying to ugrade from Vista to Widows 7 but keep getting the follwing message: [code] The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing. These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.) iTunes (Please deauthorize computer prior to upgrade)I have already deauthorised it but it continues to come up.
i Upgraded from win xp 32bit to Win 7 ultimate 32bit.i am upgrading my computers MoBo, Case, CPU, and CPU cooler.with all the new hardware. will i have to reformat? and if so. how do i go about doing it? Will i have to reinstall windows xp, than upgrade to windows 7. or can i just put in the win 7 cd and do it from there since its an upgrade version and not full version?
so yesterday I decided to upgrade my computer with a new motherboard/cpu.But I wanted to keep the old hard drive since I have all my files there, and everything was going smoothly until I actually tried to boot it.When I boot Windows 7 it gives me this bluescreen error: Code: STOP 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) I have tried to reinstall windows on another clean hard drive, but doesn't want to boot that either.
Specs:
Power supply: The one I had in my old HP Pavillion, 460w Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-V EVO CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 200GB 7200 ST3200822AS Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 460 1gb
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 full retail The hardware is from 2010 or so.The age of the os installation is 2011.
Motherboard that I using currently is ASUS P7H55-M LX.It basically has only 2 slot. Intially I bought a 2GB ram and wanted to increase it recently. Did not thought of wasting too much on ram since I have bought it only a year ago.Hence I bought a 4GB ram and placed it in.
Here comes the issue:
After placing it, my computer keep freezing. So my question is that is it alright to mix ram size in the same motherboard?
i've just changed motherboard card, memory and cpu to the new one:gigabyte p67a-d3-b3, intel core i3 2120, patriot ddr3 2x4096mb 1600mhz cl8.0 viper xtreme divison 2 llk.i changed in bios memory to 1600mhz 8-9-8-24 1.5 v (instead of 1.65v (i couldnt find option to get it to 1.65v in bios, when i changed to 1.6v system didnt run). after 1 day i got bsod. but i changed back memory to the orginal state and after about 1 hour system just got shocked. bsod didn't show up, but computer was frozen and non stop i could hear beep sound.i didn't uninstall drivers from old motherboard (don't know how). i installed new drivers for new motherboard / cpu. i didn't install again graphic card drivers (i was told i don't need to). i didn't make format either (i'd like to avoid that as much as i can).in attachment everything you want: minidump / rammon / cpu-z / and seven forums tool logs.
edit:i'd like to add that each time computer got frozen was while i was watching something on Internet?
I've been having some issues since upgrading my computer to this Galaxy GTX 560 video card. My old EVGA GTX 280 did fine except I wanted to be able to run Direct X 11 and newer games on the horizon.I specifically get crashes when playing certain games. Diablo 3, Star Trek Online, Star Wars The Old Republic (seldom but still happens). The crash would usually occur less than 20 minutes of playing.I have not experienced a crash on Team Fortress 2 yet. I have played for a few hours without crashing. This is a second card, I RMA'd the first card already with the same issues.I am on Windows 7 Professional, x64.This is a upgraded installation from a clean install of Windows xp. Re-Installed Dec '11 This should be a retail version.Motherboard 2007.CPU 2010 Intel Q9550.RAM 2011 Corsair something matched pair.Hard drive 2012 Patriot Memory Pyro.I have not overclocked anything in my computer. Everything runs fine on my 280 GTX. (just a bit slower and I hear the fan churning like mad, but doesn't hard crash).I have also tried running the OCCT, however it also causes it to crash out in about 130 seconds. The crash report is generated from this.
My computer at work was upgraded this week. I am now unable to use my remote Desktop Connection. I follow the same procedure I have always used but now get a window askihg for my credentials. I enter my user name and password but then get a window stating " Your Credentials did not work ".
I have had this issue for so long its driving me crazy and it seems that all over its a huge problem. Windows media player 12 constantly search my pc over and over again and cause my cpu to hit 100% and I can fix it BUT! another problem keeps me from doing it. The forums said to go to "Manage libraries" and change the path but I cant access my library. Everytime I click on manage libraries nothing pops up like it should. O_O so I know how to fix the cpu usage issue but WMP will not let me fix it. I cant delete the WMP folder, cant repair it (no installers can repair it), I tried WinFix and it was crap -_-, and now I even tried Safe Mode (which it will not come up) but my cpu usage is so low it make me sad its only in safe mode so Im asking.
Bringing home this find from Brink's Start Menu restore thread over at Eight Forums:Quote: Originally Posted by Mustang If you want an exact replica of Windows 7 Orb/Start Menu, with ALL the functions, click: Ex7ForW8.It requres slightly more work, as you need the Windows 7 Installation disk to load it; but it only takes a matter of seconds to extract Explorer 7 files.Once loaded it has a toggle switch between Explorer8/Metro and Explorer7/Orb Start Menu.In effect you're running either Explorer 7 or 8. When using Ex7 Metro is totally gone, on boot and after boot; but only a click away if you need to access it from the active GUI.I'm using it on Enterprise 8, and after all available updates still runs seamless. And W8 on SSD SATA3 with I5 CPU absolutely flies. Have tried all of the rest and this is an exact replica of Windows 7 Start, even had all my defaults loaded after installing in 10 seconds using my 7 files off adjoining partition. But it is much faster than either 7 or 8 normally is, due to the 8 Metro features not being loaded into RAM.
I recently had a problem with reformatting a partition. It was solved by relocating the pagefile.sys.
Now whenever I boot upon login it says the system has made a temp pagefile system. I try adjusting the size of the pagefile system to much more, less, or equal to amount of ram (4gb). Doesn't seem to solve it.
dropbox has stopped working too; it seems like that malfunction may be related to the pagefilesys
i recently installed windows 7 Ultimate on another hard drive to dual boot with my windows 7 Home Premium (Dont bother asking why) And when it finished the installation, it logged on correctly, but now the wifi doesnt work (wifi light isnt even on when the wifi cord is pluged in), also the usb3.0 ports dont work either, how would i fix this?I tried going onto my Home Premium Version and everything worked fine there, specs down below if needed
I have a computer with external active speakers connected to the 3.5mm phone plug. I'm using win 7 32-bit and when I start my computer the speaker starts to make strange sounds, almost sounds like an old modem. I have disabled the start-up sound since I don't want that, the noise is there until I do anything with the sound driver, or so it seams. If I for example I play a sound or even mute/enable the cd volume the sound stops and don't come back until the next time the computer is started. I have had the computer on for a long time without doing anything and the sound don't stop until I do something with any sound or sound setting.
Additional things I have tried so far to fix the problem but not succeeded:
1. I have been into BIOS and the sound does not start in BIOS, it is when windows is starting the sound starts.
2. Re-installed driver
3. Tried to set the register DrvAzComIdlePowerState and a few more to 00 00 00 00.
For two nights in a row now, my computer makes three loud beeps when I start it up. The it goes into that setup screen where you have to enter F1 to resume. It's weird. The first night, when I got in, I was unable to access my wireless network. I had to get the enryption key to log in. Haven't needed that since setup.
When I remove the power cord of a cpu while working, it often makes windows 7 crashes hard. When that happens, Windows 7 by default makes a system restore. Since we don't want that, we removed this option. Since the system restore has been desactivated, Windows 7 reboot over and over again. I have to reinstall. Sometimes, even the safe mode is not working. This scenario does not happen every time because sometimes Windows 7 succeeds in "getting back" online.
My computer monitor, HP LP3065c it's 30", makes a very very faint noise when it comes on. Is this normal? If not what can be done? I've had it since it was first released on the market several years ago and I'm wondering if it may be getting tired.
The title explains the problem. I can't find anything that would set this off. Everything else seems normal. It's been doing this all morning. Probably, if I reboot, it'll stop - but I want to find the source of the 'bing.' How can I trace it down?
i have recently having theese issues:My computer makes a buzzing noise and freezes for 2-3 seconds.I realy dont have any idea of why it would happen and i am very opened to advises and if needed ill put my hardwere set up on the post but dont think there will be needed as i think is softwere related as it happened after i done a C disk cleanup.
i formatted yesterday my pc, today i installed the drivers then i activated windows and it needed to close the pc to be saved.but when i booted my pc it keeps rebooting and makes a strange sound.hardware: mobo b75m-d3h gigabyte,i3 3220 win 7 32 bit home premium
So if i click hibernate and repeatedly press my power button, until the small light with the cylinder icon at the bottom front side of my laptop turns off, my laptop powers back on once that light goes off, once it powers back on it resumes Windows again and everything is amazingly faster than before. It goes slow again once i shutdown or restart, so i do this every time I'm gonna use my laptop. I press the power button while it is hibernating, it's not fully hibernated and turned off while I'm pressing the button, and it never really hibernates, it just boots back up while it's trying to hibernate lol..
About half hour/hour into my online game of L4D on VS mode my game freezes up and makes a constant buzzing sound? And I have to manually hold the power button on the comp to reboot and during boot it asks to start windows normally or last known good config.
Anyone have any trouble like this? running 64bit Windows 7 build 7600 with 8800GT 512. I'm thinking its a driver issue? I forgot how to check which Nvidia driver I have..
