In our office, running both Office 2007 and 2010, when trying to create a new document from a template (ex.: business cards or letters), I get a message that says "Unable to connect to Microsoft Office Online" with 2 options: "Try again" and "Troubleshoot your internet connection" (Office 2010 has a third option: "Tell us what you are looking for"). The product is activated on both and I am able to connect directly via a browser to the template site here:http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/templates/?CTT=97 . I can ping microsoft.com and have no other connectivity issues, and our network firewall and the local firewall are not blocking anything Office-related as far as I know. In fact, on one computer, I logged in as the local administrator and was able to connect doing the same thing, then logged back in as a network user AND the network administrator and both failed once again. What would cause this between accounts, and FYI, this method did NOT work on 2 other computers (logging in as the local admin). This occurs on both Office 2007 and 2010 products (2010 is running on Windows 7, 2007 is running on Windows XP).Also, I tried using the computer (under the local admin account) on our public network (like a home network connected by cable modem, using DHCP) and it worked fine also, if that makes any difference.

I've maxed out my machines RAM and I'm running out of ram at times and hitting hard drive I/O bottle necks. I'm running a setup with 3 monitors on a 2.7Ghz i7 with 16GB of RAM. I'm thinking I could setup another computer, connect to it over the network and have something setup so that much of the time one of my monitors is a remote connection to that computer. Basically giving me the power of another full computer at my same workstation without having to have another physical computer / keyboard / mouse here. I'm going to test the setup with Team Viewer and see how that works to operate a second computer on my network.

In the interests of "Energy conservation" is there any sort of device that I could use to remotely power on a computer.
I like to have a home server running - but these days with all the beefed up hardware we could be talking of 200 - 300 watts running all day and night when I'm only logged on for maybe 30 mins a day.
If you take the number of people these days leaving computers running all the time thats a HUGE amount of "Wasted" energy to say nothing of adding to your electricity bills.
There must be some engineer out there who could design a really SMALL device which is connected to your router. When you accessed this it could power on your machine. This device would say consume only 5 watts or so -- still not zero but a HUGE improvement over having the computer powered on all the time.
Mind you these days in W. Europe - at least outside Germany whoever does Engineering anymore unfortunately. - A device like this however could make you HUGE bucks though.

Yesterday I moved into a new apartment in Vancouver, Canada. Several friends came up with me to help me move in. My friends were able to connect to the wireless network. However, as soon as I tried connecting to the network, the wireless signal began to appear and disappear rapidly for everyone connected, effectively cutting off wireless access. This problem only occurs when I sign on. Furthermore.

I just formatted my entire laptop (Samsung RV511) due to a bug that was in the system my antivirus could not detect or the help of system restore would not get rid of either. My previous 2 laptops came with recovery discs but the samsung had only come with the windows 7. I had installed Windows 7 and after doing so, checked everything out. I realized that Samsung has many specific programs and drivers that come with their computers and in the process of formatting, I had deleted everything. My computer is unable to connect to the Internet and I can't even change the brightness of the screen anymore.

I use MS Word a lot. Whenever I want to do anything with my saved Word items, I click on Documents, click on my Word item I want and it opens up. Since I upgraded to Office Home and Student 2010, when I click on the Word item I want, a window opens up and asks me what program I want to use to open it up, 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad'. I want neither. I just want it to open up like it did before I upgraded.

Can anyone advise how I would go about fixing this. I am trying to connect to a network (I have a dell running on windows 7) and it keeps telling me that windows is unable to connect to the network-this is before I can even enter the security key. I know it is not a problem with the wireless because other people are able to connect to it fine.

I have just upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7 and need to install a couple of programmes, iTunes and printer drivers from a CD. Neither will allow installation, the iTunes download has been made but when I click on install it reads: 'The installer encountered errors..... Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified.' When I insert the CD to install the drivers for my printer I get the message: 'Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.'

I have a server set up in my office for 10 years and it is networked in within the office. Also it is set up for me to be able to connect to it by webmail and also to connect to see files and all I have on it. It has worked always, I was able to get in when out of town, till last week and on the same computer I have used, a laptop, now it does not let me in. The only change was, I have upgraded the laptop with the new Windows 7. I can still get in on my friend computer from outside the network, however he has Windows XP. I have tried other computers, some I can get in with some I cannot. I went to Staples and I cannot get in from there either. Does the new Windows have some new security installed preventing me to get in?

I am unable to install MS Office Home & Student 2007 Service Pack 3.I have downloaded it from the automatic MS Update, and also from the separate download site (both of which is very time-consuming on a slow broadband connection!), but the installation keeps failing. I have probably run an attempt 5 or 6 times now

I'm not sure what's going on so I'll quickly describe what I've been experiencing. First off, this a three month old computer. I don't use any P2P applications. I'm good at not clicking false links, etc. I'm up to date with Microsoft Updates and all of my software is up to date as well. I ran a virus scan and it came back completely clean. Sunday afternoon, I left my computer up with a bunch of windows open in Google Chrome. Everything was fine. I came back and no web pages would load. I disconnected my ethernet cable and plugged it back in. Everything was fine for a little while. Then everything started getting choppy. Programs were taking forever to open and once they did, the entire computer started lagging. For example, songs in iTunes would pause for about a half a second and jump right back in. It happened almost routinely, every 3-4 seconds. The mouse cursor was also jumping. I restarted and the same effects were observed. I can no longer open any MS Office products. This REALLY screws the computer up. I opened task manager and I can see Powerpoint, for example, running in the background and using about 100kb of memory. "End Process" does not even end the process. I tried using PSKill.exe to kill the process, but to no avail.

When I File -> Save As, I get a message "WORD has stopped working" Same results with all OFFICE applications. And with a separately installed copy of VISIO.
This may be a result of a hang in Easy Transfer. Easy Transfer was sitting for hours saying "1 minute" remaining. I terminated the program. The hang was in the administration section.

My old Office 2003 is unable to work normally on new Windows 64 bit Dell. Old files (transferred from old computer) and New Documents created on new computer using Word fail to open immediately and require User Account action from winword.exe every time I try to open any document (several steps). Any way to resolve this short of buying Office 2010?

The computer I am currently using is a 4 year old HP Pavillion a6430f (specs below), built to run the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. In May 2011, I first installed a 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Professional - some months thereafter, I began to run into repeated BSODs (unfortunately, I never wrote down the error codes). In October, I took the computer in for servicing, and was told that the hard drive failed. After it was replaced, I reconnected my computer (now running Vista again) and immeadiately (stupidly, perhaps) reinstalled my copy of Windows 7. Within several weeks, the problem resumed.I have only recently had time to get the computer serviced again, and it has been factory-reset to 32-bit Vista with another new hard drive. I don't expect my exact issue can be troubleshooted from this information, but I'd like to eliminate one of the variables. According to the system itself (information found in Control PanelSystem and MaintenancePerformance Information and ToolsView and print details), my computer is "64-bit capable". However, as I know little about hardware and the like, I ask: Could installing 64-bit Windows 7 on an originally 32-bit Windows Vista machine be causing hard drive failure/ BSOD problems?
[code] Other information: The latest hard drive that the repair shop has placed in this machine is a ~900 GB, 3.5" 7200 RPM Seagate ST1000DM 003-9YN162. The GeForce 9400 GT was also not present in the original computer (I made sure to install the correct drivers); nor was the power supply currently in it, which is around 400 watts (100 more than NewEgg's calculator said would be necessary to power the parts currently inside). I don't know if this info is too relevant, however; I am only asking whether the change of operating system is causing a negative effect.

Here comes the issue:
After placing it, my computer keep freezing. So my question is that is it alright to mix ram size in the same motherboard?

edit:i'd like to add that each time computer got frozen was while i was watching something on Internet?

so i recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from windows Vista on my laptop. This laptop is mainly used for gaming so i was a bit surprised when i was playing a game and my computer overheated and turned off for the first time in a year of having the laptop. I checked and even games like "lord of the rings online" that pushed my GPU to about 70 degrees on vista, now pushes the gpu to 100 or more. Is there any fix for this? or is my only option to return to windows vista?
