Is Upgrading To Windows 7 Crashing My Computer
Aug 6, 2012
The computer I am currently using is a 4 year old HP Pavillion a6430f (specs below), built to run the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. In May 2011, I first installed a 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Professional - some months thereafter, I began to run into repeated BSODs (unfortunately, I never wrote down the error codes). In October, I took the computer in for servicing, and was told that the hard drive failed. After it was replaced, I reconnected my computer (now running Vista again) and immeadiately (stupidly, perhaps) reinstalled my copy of Windows 7. Within several weeks, the problem resumed.I have only recently had time to get the computer serviced again, and it has been factory-reset to 32-bit Vista with another new hard drive. I don't expect my exact issue can be troubleshooted from this information, but I'd like to eliminate one of the variables. According to the system itself (information found in Control PanelSystem and MaintenancePerformance Information and ToolsView and print details), my computer is "64-bit capable". However, as I know little about hardware and the like, I ask: Could installing 64-bit Windows 7 on an originally 32-bit Windows Vista machine be causing hard drive failure/ BSOD problems?
[code] Other information: The latest hard drive that the repair shop has placed in this machine is a ~900 GB, 3.5" 7200 RPM Seagate ST1000DM 003-9YN162. The GeForce 9400 GT was also not present in the original computer (I made sure to install the correct drivers); nor was the power supply currently in it, which is around 400 watts (100 more than NewEgg's calculator said would be necessary to power the parts currently inside). I don't know if this info is too relevant, however; I am only asking whether the change of operating system is causing a negative effect.

I've been having some issues since upgrading my computer to this Galaxy GTX 560 video card. My old EVGA GTX 280 did fine except I wanted to be able to run Direct X 11 and newer games on the horizon.I specifically get crashes when playing certain games. Diablo 3, Star Trek Online, Star Wars The Old Republic (seldom but still happens). The crash would usually occur less than 20 minutes of playing.I have not experienced a crash on Team Fortress 2 yet. I have played for a few hours without crashing. This is a second card, I RMA'd the first card already with the same issues.I am on Windows 7 Professional, x64.This is a upgraded installation from a clean install of Windows xp. Re-Installed Dec '11 This should be a retail version.Motherboard 2007.CPU 2010 Intel Q9550.RAM 2011 Corsair something matched pair.Hard drive 2012 Patriot Memory Pyro.I have not overclocked anything in my computer. Everything runs fine on my 280 GTX. (just a bit slower and I hear the fan churning like mad, but doesn't hard crash).I have also tried running the OCCT, however it also causes it to crash out in about 130 seconds. The crash report is generated from this.

so i recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from windows Vista on my laptop. This laptop is mainly used for gaming so i was a bit surprised when i was playing a game and my computer overheated and turned off for the first time in a year of having the laptop. I checked and even games like "lord of the rings online" that pushed my GPU to about 70 degrees on vista, now pushes the gpu to 100 or more. Is there any fix for this? or is my only option to return to windows vista?

I'm trying to ugrade from Vista to Widows 7 but keep getting the follwing message: [code] The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing. These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.) iTunes (Please deauthorize computer prior to upgrade)I have already deauthorised it but it continues to come up.

Over the past couple of days, whenever I open a windows explorer window, it crashes and restarts immediately. I read another forum that told me to copy windows explorer from C:/Windows to C:/Windows/System32. Since windows explorer kept crashing, I tried to boot in safe mode, but it got stuck on the "loading files" screen. I shut it down and tried to boot Ubuntu, but it also got stuck. Now my computer won't boot at all.

I recently built my machine. It was working fine doing things in windows and out. I have an SSD now and liked how smoothly the computer would resume from the default sleep mode power settings that came with win7, so for the first time I've actually been using them on my desktop. However, since installing sp1, sleep no longer seems to work. When I woke up this morning and when i came home from work, the computer was not in sleep mode. Normally I expect to see the power button flashing, and in neither case it was. When I start the computer it asks me how i want to enter windows, just like it does normally if windows crashes. Everything else on my computer is working as expected.

Motherboard that I using currently is ASUS P7H55-M LX.It basically has only 2 slot. Intially I bought a 2GB ram and wanted to increase it recently. Did not thought of wasting too much on ram since I have bought it only a year ago.Hence I bought a 4GB ram and placed it in.
Here comes the issue:
After placing it, my computer keep freezing. So my question is that is it alright to mix ram size in the same motherboard?

In a brave attempt to put together my new computer, my new machine keeps constantly freezing up. The event mostly occurs when i open a webpage that might have embedded video. When the machine freezes up, I need to do a hard boot. I have tried running the Asus diagnostic tools, but no real results. I have even tried the various memory tests, however no resolve. One other step that I have taken was also to replace my grahics card from a AMD Sapphire to a NVDIA GeForce GTX 690.

edit:i'd like to add that each time computer got frozen was while i was watching something on Internet?

I've got a relatively new custom PC (around 3 months old) and I have problems with it. It was put together by the same shop that sold the parts. It recently started to crash constantly at seemingly random times. Sometimes it would run fine for 5 days without any issues, at other times it would crash once every day for a few days. Even the cause isn't always the same. It would either give me a BSoD or simply shut down without any message and restart itself.

i've somewhat recently built myself a new gaming rig due to my old system being horribly outdated and unreliable and from day one of using the new computer i've had some problems with crashing.basically, the computer crashes at least once per day and is seemingly undetectable as to when this happens, the only thing intensifying the crashing seems to be streaming videos online, ie. Internet, facebook, dailymotion videos etc.a friend of mine had compiled the list of parts that i would use to build the computer, and also did the majority of assembling (which i cannot notice any problems with by looking at the inside of the tower). this same friend, after hearing about constant crashing problems and unreliability as to when it would crash had suggested a problem with the system's memory, but after swapping out hdd's and even installing an ssd? here is a list of my system specs.

western digital 2tb internal hdd
ocz agility 60gb ssd (boot disc)
win7 ultimate 32-bit os

Windows 7 x64 Home, Dell XPS Desktop PC. To start, I can boot into safe mode with networking, and cruise facebook and everything else just fine for him on IE. Having issues with re-installing Firefox since it keeps locking up and crashing (BSOD). I can get in and most things on the PC tend to run fine, then gets slower and slower with nothing big on the processes list in task manager. If I open either IE or Firefox, the thing locks up, can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL. I have ran AVG scan, ran Malwarebytes scan, uninstalled Firefox, uninstalled all javas, updated IE to 9 via Windows Update, and reinstalled javas/firefox again. Still crashes. My thought is that it has to be an addon or some crap somewhere since it runs fine in safe mode? The only add-on I had enabled in Firefox was the Java SSE Add-in or something like that. Not sure now since it won't re-install.

I am getting really tired of my computer crashing constantly. The main concerns are: ntoskrnl.exe, atikmdag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I have fresh installed four times, updated all of my drivers and DirectX, too. Nothing helped. I have send my PC back to it's manufacturer 2 times, and they said it was fine. I have also run Windows Memory Diagnostics without any errors. It happens randomly, even though what I am doing on my computer (work, games, surfing the interwebs etc.

So, my computer is crashing while I play games like Left 4 Dead or Bad Company 2When it crashes, sound starts looping and I get a black screen and there might be somekind of corruption on the screen. Black screen stays there for some time (5-10 secs, not sure about the exact time) and then the computer reboots. After I boot back in to Windows, a window pops-up telling that Windows has recovered from bluescreen but I didn't see any bluescreen coming up. figured it might be something to do with heat but after I logged the temperatures, I'm not so sure about it anymore. At the moment of the crash, GPU was at 94C and processor cores were at 66C , 65C , 67C , 65C so the temperatures seem to be fine.

Every time i start EVE Online, and click somewhere the game crashes, then explorer.exe crashes, and so does everything else. Even if task manger can open i can not restart explorer. The only way to stop it is to restart my computer. I did clear the game cache and even that did not help, i have also reinstalled, de-fragmented, and done a hard drive disk check.

I recently got Windows 7 Professional through MSDN-AA for my two computers (one 64-bit and one 32-bit license). They both installed fine and I'm really enjoying the O.S. so far - however, I have an issue. I very, very frequently transfer project files between the two computers (some of the visual files are pretty large) - so file sharing is important to me. I was excited when I learned about the Homegroup features and was eager to give them a shot.
No go
Both computers join the Homegroup fine, and can access one anothers shared folders. However, as soon as I try to actually transfer a file on the 64 bit computer (trying to transfer from the 64-bit to the 32-bit) the computer hard locks. No BSOD, but everything locks up (screen stays the same, caps-lock is non-responsive, mouse doesn't move). I have to hard-reboot to fix the issue.
I'm not having any other issues with the installation, except the Homegroup hard locking. Any thoughts/additional information requests?

I thought this was the best windows forum I found on the internet. Anyway. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 RC (currently build 7100) And the problems immediately start showing. If I decide to listen to some music the computer will crash after only a few minutes. It doesn't matter which program I use. Either I am using iTunes or Spotify it crashes. And I have no Idea what's the problem what so ever.
My computer has two Ati Radeon 4870HD graphiccards, and I have installed the latest drivers. I've seen some of you mention the HDMI Audio package to be the problem, but I don't know. When my computer crashes, it freezes, and the screen either go black or the picture on the screen is blured out in straight lines. Almost like a motionblur. I should mention I use two screens aswell.
When i restart the computer a bios thing shows up on my screen asking if I would like to fix something in the bios settings or just start. And then the classic "run windows normally, run windows in safe mode..." screen comes up.

For example when within World of Warcraft it will crash pretty much instantly, I have got a memory dump of which I have attached to this post. When I start up any sort of application or program, or even click the 'Start' button, it says that my video driver has crashed and recovered. My screen goes black, and then it recovers. Then if I keep using it, it will just randomly blue screen me.
Since this problem has been occurring, I've reinstalled the drivers, full-scanned the computer, and finally I reinstalled Windows 7. I have no idea what to do, and I can't check my exact specs because Speccy will not work properly with my machine in its current condition.
GeForce GT 445m

This is literally all I know, and this is why I don't expect a solution to come quickly.
