had to re-install windows 7 because of some problems. I have a backup HDD that has what I want. When I transfer the files to my new C drive from the back up everything is there but not active. How can I activate the transferred programs?

After the first installation of Windows 7 I was having weird performance issues which is why I'm doing the reinstall, but if there's a faster way of accessing my old programs without having to install all of them it would be a big help.
I had a new computer assembled by a shop. I have I7 950 based system and has twin 1tb hardrives. I wanted to mirror the drives and files under windows, however the shop set up the drives in Raid1.(shop doesnt know what customer service is) I transferred all my files onto the drive with window home premium etc before realizing it had been instlled with Raid bios setup. I want to remove the raid format (bios) and clear the drives and reinstall the drives under windows to use one a a backup drive. I have a external drive I can use to assist and later use a a second backup drive.I understand once I clear the Raid formatting I will wipe all the info from the installed drives?Can I make a backup on my external drive and reinstall all my prgrams and files from my external drive once I do this. Also If I mirror windows 7 to my external drive can I reinstall this from my external drive to the internal drive or will it be set up as a raid format and not be of use?

AFAICT the only updates installed in the last two plus weeks have been MSE definition updates. The last real updates were installed on 11 April. Even though I do not restart my computer often I am sure this only started recently. It has done it for four restarts in the last 24 hours.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've got a printer connected by USB to a desktop running Vista and hardwired to a WiFi router and I've got a Nokia booklet running Windows 7 Starter and using the WiFi. I have tried to get the two computers to connect with each other, but only the desktop can get into the booklet. I cannot get the booklet to get into the desktop. It seems that because I only have Win Starter 7, I cannot form a home group. I need the full featured Win 7 to do that. Is that correct? I really would like to use the printer on the booklet, but even though it seems to send the document to the printer queue on the desktop, nothing prints. I suspect it's the same issue as I mentioned, but at least it's getting something into the desktop. When I try to print and then look at the document's properties, it says the size of the document but always says pages to print.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was purchased in 2010 and has Windows 7 Professional on it. I never had a problem until about 2 months ago when restored to factory settings, which doesn't require a Windows disc. About a month later I started getting messages all over about how Windows might not be genuine and I needed to activate it. The only option it gave me was to activate online, which when I did that I got an error.
So I reformatted AGAIN, hoping I wouldn't have the problem. Now it tells me I have 2 days until automatic activation, which I'm guessing isn't going to work because it didn't last time. When I click 'Activate Window Now', I get an error: 0x8007007B... Now right under that there is a product ID and I'm not sure if that's what I need to enter, or where to enter it.
I went to Microsoft's website and had it run its test to see if it says Windows is genuine, and it is, but I'm worried that I'm gonna run into the same problem as last time if I don't get this activated. I'd much rather figure out a way to do it online than over the phone.
I just replaced a hard drive on a Win7 machine, cloning the old drive to the new one, and it boots up fine, but tells me that Windows is no longer activated. I go through the process, but each time it tells me that the KMS server is unavailable. This machine was never in a "corporate" environment, so I don't know why it's doing this.
Is there a way (preferrably without reinstalling Windows!) that I can "force" the KMS stuff to go away, and activate directly with Microsoft?

I bought Windows 7 Upgrade when it came out, and upgraded an XP laptop. Worked fine. The disk got corrupted, though, and I had to do a complete, clean install on a re-formatted harddrive. So my Windows 7 upgrade doesn't think it's an upgrade. I tried to do the online activation -- didn't work. I tried to do a phone activation -- didn't work. Talked to MS customer service. They said I have to install/activate Xp or something first, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. The problem is that this laptop didn't come with any disks, and I don't have any way to do that. So they said to "borrow" a copy of XP/Vista from someone, install that, then re-install Windows 7 upgrade. I just spent two full days installing Windows 7, updates, programs, data, etc. I sure hate to have to start all over again. Is there any other way to make this work?

I would only be using Windows on 1 PC but obviously it's already been activated on my desktop so would I have any problems activating it on my laptop? Is there a way to "deactivate" my desktop so I can activate it on the laptop or am I going to have to call Microsoft and hope they'll allow me to do this?

I wiped the disk then installed and verified it without a hitch. Automatic updates has been working fine.Yesterday I changed some things around on my motherboard. When I booted Windows 7 Ultimate, which has been installed on my computer for several years now, it reported that my copy of Windows was invalid. Apparently the motherboard remembered the OEM Vista product number. I tried reauthorization both on the web and by phone using my new product key of Windows 7. The phone reauthorization doesn't even allow me to talk with a support person.Did I really buy an unauthorized Windows 7 ultimate, or is something weird going on here because VISTA OEM was originally installed on this computer?
