I have a Vantec NexStar TX NST-210S2-BK Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 wit a 120 GB Segate Harddrive in it connected to an Asus K61-IC laptop and my transfer speeds on all my USB Ports are acting super slow.Also, Just recently I've had a balloon tip start popping up in the taskbar telling me that if I hook my USB Devices up to a USB 2.0 Port it will run faster. I'm pretty sure that all my USB Port's are 2.0.
View 4 RepliesI'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Computer(...) and I have recently found a problem that's pretty annoying: The file copying is really-really slower than on Windows XP and I mean that if I want to copy a folder which is about 650MBs over to a USB Flash Drive it takes about 1 day(what??) and the transfer rate is like 300KB/s. I have tried to look for solutions on the Internet but they haven't turned out handy. Could someone please help me asap as I need to give the USB to someone in a couple of hours?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi just notice that my usb transfer is really slow around 11mb/sec for my usb stick and around 20mb/sec for my external hard drive. I noticed this change right after installing SP1. (I'm on windows 7 ultimate 64bit.) The thing is that it happenned in a particular moment, i was transfering files to my external hard drive the same day i installed Sp1 and in the beginning of the transfer the transfer speed was normal, around 60mb/sec. Then my Internet security software (Eset Smart Security) tells me that a process has changed in i think it was taskhost.exe (i am not 100% sure but i know it was a windows process), it ask me do i accept it, i press ok accept the change and then i saw my transfer speed slowed down right away to something like 20mb/sec.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs of recently (for the last couple of weeks) I noticed that the transfer rate to my external WD Elements SE 1TB drive is very very slow (~2MB/sec). This wasn't always the case, and the drive was much more responsive than that.
I searched about this topic extensively and the only thing I found was an issue with installing Windows 7 SP1 that in some cases screwed up the USB2 drivers. This was supposedly addressed by KB2529073 which is installed on my system. However, I'm still experiencing this ulta slow transfer rate.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is slow usb transfer rate - at first it start off real good (70-80 mb/s then within 10 sec it drops down to 3 and even 1 mb/s). 1.5 mb file gets into my flash drive in 10 min or so. Now I've formatted flash drives, no change. Write-caching enabled, "best performance" for flash drives enabled... Tried on a Lap-Top - transfer rate is not so high, but stable all the time - 15-12 mb/s. Remote Differential Compression disabled. Transfer rate within the hard drives in my computer is OK (I got 2). I don't know if it's the Windows 7 problem or the motherboard problem or hard drives config problem.

I am wondering if there is something wrong with my windows 7 ratings. My SSD is in perfect working order and everything is blazing fast, but for some reason I only get a 5.9 for a rating. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am copying files from a WHS 2003 to a back-up drive on a HTPC. The WHS and the HTPC are connected physically to a router. The back-up drive is USB 3.0 and plugged into a 3.0 USB input on the HTPC.
The transfer rate is only 40MB/second. Why is this? The data is being transferred via CAT6 cables from the WHS/Router/HTPC and then USB 3.0 to the external drive

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 8000 with a quad core, 8 gig ram, 7 pro, 6gb hdd and 6gb controller. I've tried SSD's that were 6gb and still having issues with slow performance. My main program is Arcview Mapping. I"ve tweaked the cache, I've put the Win swapfile on a second 6gb drive, tried 'no swapfile' so it all runs in ram, just about everything I can think of. We have gigabit nic, switch to switch, etc. It uses a lot of updates to the screen straight from internet, but local files should load faster. I have a copy on my local 6gb drive then sync to server at eod trying to r/o net latency. Majority of work is to/from local drive, but still can't wring out more speed. When I open Arcview, it takes 1.5 minutes to get to a workable screen. File size I'm loading doesn't make a diff.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

In the last few days my netbook for no apparent reason has gone super slow. Chrome takes ages to load webpages when it use to take a second. The computer is very unresponsive. When I check the task manager the processes list is stuffed up. The processes keep jumping up and down the list. Sometimes a process is at the top of list but a second later it's at the bottom of list. As soon as I log in my cpu usage is a 100% when i have no applications running. I'm scanning with avast now and then will scan with Malwarebytes.

Why my pc is lagging so much?
I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.
I have had this problem ever since the summer. I would tell you the speeds I'm getting from testmy.net, but the page is still loading. It's been over 30 minutes.Anyway, I have installed the drivers for the motherboard that came with the disc and such, and I still have no success. It is really annoying at this point, basically not being able to use my computer.

Now suddenly, when I'm trying to go into large websites, everything takes halfway to forever to load. I even restored to any earlier point. Still the same problem. (By the way, I had difficulty restoring. I kept getting error messages. In the end I uninstalled Kaspersky, restored to an earlier point, reinstalled Kaspersky.)
View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst off my power supply went out. It was a 450watt one I ordered and replaced it with a 750watt power supply. After I replaced the power supply, my computer would not boot, When the power supply went out it was in the middle of updating windows. So I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install of windows, reloaded all my drivers and extra programs. At that point my computer was running great.
I decided to uninstall Bing tool bar, and windows live sign in assistant. it prompted my to reboot. When I rebooted the computer, after about 30 minutes it still had not come up to the desktop, I could boot up in safe mode and it would run fine. I did a system restore, no change, I did a start up repair, no change, Tested the memory it came back fine.
At that point and reformatted the hard drive again, I had another hard drive formatted it and put the install CD in and after 8 hours it is still trying to install Windows 7, No errors just really really slow. So I have replaced the power supply, hard drive, and ran a memory test with no errors, done a clean install of windows. Running Windows 7 64 bit, 4 gig of Ram, 2.8 dual core processor, 1 gig video card, 500 gig hard drive.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP 1 original unmodified MS Technet ISO to a blank Crucial RealSSD C300 SSD drive and it is taking hours to do that. The last time I did the install it took almost 4 hours to copy the files, I tried it from a DVD drive and from an external USB-HDD and there was no speed difference. After the installation was done, the SSD was very fast though, no problems at all then.
Now I have to install again and I do not want to wait again a half day just for the files to copy. My Mainboard is a ASROCK 870 Extreme 3 , I use AHCI , AMD AHCI Bios is disabled and AHCI is enabled for SATA3_5 and 6 .
I have an Acer Netbook and just plugged an external hard drive in via USB. I have 2.18G to transfer and it is telling me to wait another 2 hours and 15 minutes.It has Intel Atom N570(1.66GHz) and win7 Starter.

When transferring a 3 gig file from my NV+ to my internal hard drive I get speeds of around 300 Kb/s and message saying the transfer will take 18 hours.When i transfer the same file to my wifes computer over the same network the speed jumps to 30MB/s which is what it should be. I cannot understand why this is happening as my wife's computer is way slower than mine with only a core 2 duo processor and 2 gig of ram
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to transfer between my Desktop computer (XP) and laptop (Windows 7). When I do it wifi it only transfers at speeds between 1MBs to 3MBs. When I physically connect to my router I get better speeds at 10-11Mbs. However in both cases on large files it loses connection.It says that connection lost/failed and gives me option of retry/skip. When I hit retry it still doesn't work. When I disconnect and retry that method it starts up again from scratch however rarely does it fully transfer a file. These files are anywhere from 2GIGs to 4GIGS.I don't have anti-security on either computer. I'm using new Netgear router.

Generally i found new os fine but i have a problem with file copying from my desktop (running xp sp3). My transfer speed is only 1.5 mbyte per second. Notebook has atheros 5007eg (54mbit) wireless lan and desktop has realtek gigabit lan. And my router is airties rt-205 with 125mbit wireless signal. I have done the following things but it's still same.
*netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable.
*Turn off Remote Differential Compression.
*Disabled Remote Assistance.
*Unchecked ipv6.
I have 2 desktop computers and one laptop on a network, all three are also part of a Homegroup. When I try to copy files from the main Admin PC to the laptop it slows down to less than 15KB/s. I thought perhaps it was the wifi reception but even when connected with Ethernet it's still terribly slow to the point that a 300MB folder takes 2 hours (estimated time). I end up cancelling the transfer sand sometimes windows explorer ends up crashing. However when I copy files from the second desktop to laptop it is normal speed. No lag, no glitch. All the files I tried to copy where share, available to Everyone. Everything else works fine, streaming video and music from the main admin PC is flawless, I just can't seem too transfer files from the main Admin PC to the laptop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHere is my problem. In this case, I am trying to transfer pictures from one of my XP systems to my Windows 7 Home Premium system over my wired network. Between the XP systems, things run fairly quick. But not with 7 involved. When I go to transfer the 47 pictures that I want, it tells me that it will take 18 minutes. And this is for only 66.7MB of data. Tell me this can get better. Being new to 7, I have no idea where to look for the problem. I tried searching Microsoft's site and the help files on my system. I just can't find a solution.
Here is some more info, and maybe some you don't need. On the Windows 7 system, I can access all the shared folders on my other systems (all XP SP3). If I go to the network map, my other systems are marked as "The following discovered devices can not be placed in the map.". I don't know if that is a problem or not. The reason I did that is because I was reading through the Microsoft site on file sharing and that was mentioned. It also mentions a program called LLTD, which may be needed on 32-bit XP systems. I tried installing that on my XP system, but it said I didn't need it.
As far as the file transfer, while sitting at my XP system, access is denied when I try to access the shared folder (for my pictures) on Windows 7. Now if I transfer them to the Users/Public/Pictures folder, it will transfer them in just over 5 minutes. Still a little slow, in my opinion, and not where I want them. Why can I transfer there and not into the folder I want them? And why is quicker to transfer while sitting at my XP system?
I have made sure that all the systems have the same workgroup name. I have also tried disconnecting the power from my modem, router, and all systems then powering each one up one at a time. That was suggested to me before. It didn't change anything.
One last thing. While starting my Windows 7 system, as soon as it was at the desktop, I tried to transfer the pictures again and the transfer took off. Almost immediately, it said that there was 20 seconds left. It was flying like I thought it should. Less then a minute into the transfer, it hit a wall and changed to about 20 minutes. Go figure. I checked my settings for the folders I want to transfer to and they are set as shared. Maybe at that point, a security program started up. I don't know. I do have a trial version of Norton's Internet Security installed. It came preloaded with the system. I was thinking of removing that and going with Avast free. I have checked any firewalls and did disable them. No difference.
I tried to list everything I've tried. Hopefully, some helpful info in there. I find it strange that I can access the shared folders but not transfer from them. Any thoughts on what to do? Is there a setting in Windows 7 that needs to be changed?
