I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Computer(...) and I have recently found a problem that's pretty annoying: The file copying is really-really slower than on Windows XP and I mean that if I want to copy a folder which is about 650MBs over to a USB Flash Drive it takes about 1 day(what??) and the transfer rate is like 300KB/s. I have tried to look for solutions on the Internet but they haven't turned out handy. Could someone please help me asap as I need to give the USB to someone in a couple of hours?

I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this problem. When transferring a 3 gig file from my NV+ to my internal hard drive I get speeds of around 300 Kb/s and message saying the transfer will take 18 hours. When i transfer the same file to my wifes computer over the same network the speed jumps to 30MB/s which is what it should be. I cannot understand why this is happening as my wife's computer is way slower than mine with only a core 2 duo processor and 2 gig of ram

I have a Vantec NexStar TX NST-210S2-BK Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 wit a 120 GB Segate Harddrive in it connected to an Asus K61-IC laptop and my transfer speeds on all my USB Ports are acting super slow. Also, Just recently I've had a balloon tip start popping up in the taskbar telling me that if I hook my USB Devices up to a USB 2.0 Port it will run faster. I'm pretty sure that all my USB Port's are 2.0.

I'm trying to transfer between my Desktop computer (XP) and laptop (Windows 7). When I do it wifi it only transfers at speeds between 1MBs to 3MBs. When I physically connect to my router I get better speeds at 10-11Mbs. However in both cases on large files it loses connection. It says that connection lost/failed and gives me option of retry/skip. When I hit retry it still doesn't work. When I disconnect and retry that method it starts up again from scratch however rarely does it fully transfer a file. These files are anywhere from 2GIGs to 4GIGS.I don't have anti-security on either computer. I'm using new Netgear router.

i have bought a notebook with vista 32 bit home basic and didnt like vista so i upgraded it to windows 7 64bit after 1 day usage. Generally i found new os fine but i have a problem with file copying from my desktop (running xp sp3). My transfer speed is only 1.5 mbyte per second. Notebook has atheros 5007eg (54mbit) wireless lan and desktop has realtek gigabit lan. And my router is airties rt-205 with 125mbit wireless signal. I have done the following things but it's still same.
*netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable.
*Turn off Remote Differential Compression.
*Disabled Remote Assistance.
*Unchecked ipv6.

I have 2 desktop computers and one laptop on a network, all three are also part of a Homegroup. When I try to copy files from the main Admin PC to the laptop it slows down to less than 15KB/s. I thought perhaps it was the wifi reception but even when connected with Ethernet it's still terribly slow to the point that a 300MB folder takes 2 hours (estimated time). I end up cancelling the transfer sand sometimes windows explorer ends up crashing. However when I copy files from the second desktop to laptop it is normal speed. No lag, no glitch. All the files I tried to copy where share, available to Everyone. Everything else works fine, streaming video and music from the main admin PC is flawless, I just can't seem too transfer files from the main Admin PC to the laptop.

Here is my problem. In this case, I am trying to transfer pictures from one of my XP systems to my Windows 7 Home Premium system over my wired network. Between the XP systems, things run fairly quick. But not with 7 involved. When I go to transfer the 47 pictures that I want, it tells me that it will take 18 minutes. And this is for only 66.7MB of data. Tell me this can get better. Being new to 7, I have no idea where to look for the problem. I tried searching Microsoft's site and the help files on my system. I just can't find a solution.
Here is some more info, and maybe some you don't need. On the Windows 7 system, I can access all the shared folders on my other systems (all XP SP3). If I go to the network map, my other systems are marked as "The following discovered devices can not be placed in the map.". I don't know if that is a problem or not. The reason I did that is because I was reading through the Microsoft site on file sharing and that was mentioned. It also mentions a program called LLTD, which may be needed on 32-bit XP systems. I tried installing that on my XP system, but it said I didn't need it.
As far as the file transfer, while sitting at my XP system, access is denied when I try to access the shared folder (for my pictures) on Windows 7. Now if I transfer them to the Users/Public/Pictures folder, it will transfer them in just over 5 minutes. Still a little slow, in my opinion, and not where I want them. Why can I transfer there and not into the folder I want them? And why is quicker to transfer while sitting at my XP system?
I have made sure that all the systems have the same workgroup name. I have also tried disconnecting the power from my modem, router, and all systems then powering each one up one at a time. That was suggested to me before. It didn't change anything.
One last thing. While starting my Windows 7 system, as soon as it was at the desktop, I tried to transfer the pictures again and the transfer took off. Almost immediately, it said that there was 20 seconds left. It was flying like I thought it should. Less then a minute into the transfer, it hit a wall and changed to about 20 minutes. Go figure. I checked my settings for the folders I want to transfer to and they are set as shared. Maybe at that point, a security program started up. I don't know. I do have a trial version of Norton's Internet Security installed. It came preloaded with the system. I was thinking of removing that and going with Avast free. I have checked any firewalls and did disable them. No difference.
I tried to list everything I've tried. Hopefully, some helpful info in there. I find it strange that I can access the shared folders but not transfer from them. Any thoughts on what to do? Is there a setting in Windows 7 that needs to be changed?

I recently completed a clean install of windows 7.
I have the i7 950 on the ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard.
I am currently experiencing extremely slow usb tranfer speeds.
I get transfer rates on average of 650 KB/second.
I checked the device manager and 2 of the 8 usb controllers say enhanced. The other 6 do not.
According to the specs of the board, all 8 should be usb 2.0.
I have tried letting the system update the drivers, but for all, it retains the current driver.
I even went so far as to disable the controllers and restart. All 8 returned, but with the current drivers.
I tried using the install CD that came with the mobo, but it states that it cannot run using the current OS.
Any thoughts?

i just notice that my usb transfer is really slow around 11mb/sec for my usb stick and around 20mb/sec for my external hard drive. I noticed this change right after installing SP1. (I'm on windows 7 ultimate 64bit.) The thing is that it happenned in a particular moment, i was transfering files to my external hard drive the same day i installed Sp1 and in the beginning of the transfer the transfer speed was normal, around 60mb/sec. Then my Internet security software (Eset Smart Security) tells me that a process has changed in i think it was taskhost.exe (i am not 100% sure but i know it was a windows process), it ask me do i accept it, i press ok accept the change and then i saw my transfer speed slowed down right away to something like 20mb/sec.

I have a Dell XPS 15Z with gigabit ethernet port, have dgs 1005d gigabit switch and WDTV live hub also with gigabit "capability"... The network cables should be fine...
The issue is that the file transfer (these are usually HD movies) from my laptop to WDTV are rather slow having in mind it's a gigabit network connection... The speed tops 15 MB/s. Same thing if I connect WDTV directly with my laptop.
The switch indicates (green light) it has set-up a gigabit connection both with WDTV and my laptop.
I have disabled autotuning, RDC, AV software etc. Tried with jumbo frames, disabling flow control - EVERYTHING

My Home Hub 3 shows both connected at 100 Mbps, yet I'm getting a maximum of 1.3M transferring a file to the NAS.

As of recently (for the last couple of weeks) I noticed that the transfer rate to my external WD Elements SE 1TB drive is very very slow (~2MB/sec). This wasn't always the case, and the drive was much more responsive than that.
I searched about this topic extensively and the only thing I found was an issue with installing Windows 7 SP1 that in some cases screwed up the USB2 drivers. This was supposedly addressed by KB2529073 which is installed on my system. However, I'm still experiencing this ulta slow transfer rate.

I know there are very similar threads but like I said I cannot find a solution. [code] I recently noticed the transfer rate really slow, at an average about 1.5MB/s.I have tried enabling Better Performance option but what happens is that it starts really fast and then goes down to about 1.5MB/s anyways and usually just freezes or stops.I also have a laptop, its an Acer Aspire AS5745DG-6681. Specifications are:Intel Core i5-480M, 15.6" HD (1366x768) LED-backlit, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Combo Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M 1GB, Wireless N, HDMI, Webcam, 9-cell, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I updated the RAM to 8GB on the laptop.Using the same external hard drive, I can get rates at an average of 30MB/s and better performance is also disabled on the laptop.I Don't know what the difference is they both have Windows 7 64 bit, just the laptop is Home Premium and my desktop is Windows 7 Enterprise.

I bought a hp dv5-2230us 3 days ago with a i3 380 4 gb ram and win 7 home premium . I tried to copy a 1GB file onto an sd card and it took over an hour! it was going at about 200kb a sec or so. On my old satellite A105 with 1 GB ram and T2050 1.6 GHZ it took about a min to transfer the same file on the same card running ubuntu. It was not a linux specific file. Only thing that has been installed is firefox, flash, java, and microsoft updates.

I have recently had to format my hard drive and re-install windows. I have also had to replace the motherboard, CPU and power supply. I borrowed a 1.5 TB Freecom firewire external hard drive from a friend to back-up important data before the format, but the transfer speed is uselessly slow now that I am attempting to put the data back on the drive.
I have tried:
- updating the drivers for the firewire card
- switching to 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (legacy) in the device manager
- Optimizing the drive for 'better performance' as opposed to 'speedy removal' in the drive's properties.
As things stand at the moment, I am getting about 400 kb/ps transfer speed from the external to my on-board drive. As you can imagine, this is virtually useless to me, considering I have hundreds of gigabytes worth of data to transfer.

have been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

My problem is slow usb transfer rate - at first it start off real good (70-80 mb/s then within 10 sec it drops down to 3 and even 1 mb/s). 1.5 mb file gets into my flash drive in 10 min or so. Now I've formatted flash drives, no change. Write-caching enabled, "best performance" for flash drives enabled... Tried on a Lap-Top - transfer rate is not so high, but stable all the time - 15-12 mb/s. Remote Differential Compression disabled. Transfer rate within the hard drives in my computer is OK (I got 2). I don't know if it's the Windows 7 problem or the motherboard problem or hard drives config problem.
Here is my info:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
HDD's: Samsung 500bg and ST 320 bg, both 16 mb 7200
mobo - GA-770T-D3L, v.1.
RAM - 8gb
Phenom IIx6

I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:
Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.
The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins. Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me.Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings.Same system language as before.BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I have more than enough space on both my computer and on the external hard drive. I have tried only transferring a user account a few MBs large. I have reinstalled the OS twice just in case something went wrong there. I have clicked on the .MIG file directly. All lead to the same error message. The transfer file seems to be intact and not currupt
Is there another software other than WET that can use the same transfer file that WET created to restore my files? Please help me solve this if you can or at least point me in the right direction because right now I'm clueless. I can't emphasize how important those files are to me. I've searched for solutions on several forums and it seems that this is a problem people have been having for years now and windows hasn't provided an answer yet.
An interesting note, When I reboot the laptop after trying to do the transfer, a new user account appears at startup alongside the one I normally use. This new user account has the same unique name of the user account I am trying to restore but that's where the similarity ends. All the settings for this account are default settings and empty folders.

I bought this Fujitsu laptop for less than a year. Its only for my school work. It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing. For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

I am repairing a laptop for a friend that needs a new hard drive. Im wondering what possible methods there are for transferring the OEM Windows 7 install.I have a Windows 7 installation disk. Can I use this to install the same version of Windows 7 (Home Premium in this case) and have it activated? Or does it require the OEM version of the OS to be legal? The old HD is suffering from quite alot of bad sectors so its unlikely a disk imaging tool will work for this problem.
