My western digital usb 3.0 external hard drive is giving only 1 MB/Sec transfer rate. I know its really very slow. Can any one let me know what we could do increase the speed.
View 1 Repliesi've been asked to set up 6 brand new Dell laptops bought for my software engineers in the industy - i have been given a 7th Dell laptop same as the other 6 which has had all the required software needed by our engineers for the machinery programing process installed on it - i've also been given a 1TB western Digital {USB connected} external hard drive for cloning the software and transfering it on to the other laptops, so this afternoon i cloned the 7th laptop with all the software on it using system back up - creating a system image file on the external hard drive, but when it came to transfering this image on to the other laptops, i thought i'd beable to restore {set up the C: drive} the new laptop from the file path E: {the external hard drive path} but it doesn't have the option {E: drive or USB input or external drive} only system restore/back up disk or network path, i can't use the network path as the company has access/permission,firewall blockers that basically stop our engineers laptops from working on customers sites when online, which kind of stops any work from happening, and is why the company.

-Windows 7 64bit Desktop (custom built)
-Windows 7 32bit laptop (Dell Vostro 1700)
-Windows 7 32bit Toshiba)
Not a single one of these computers even so much as detect the hard drive at all now. I tried a different usb cable as well, and i got nothing. I tried different wall outlets, it still blinks when I plug it in the computer, but the computer doesn't remotely see it.I first noticed a problem when I tried to download a new movie using utorrent. It started the file, and then failed saying something was wrong with like cyncro or something. Whatever, I looked up the error code. Appears others have had this issue as well, so I did what they said, "chkdsk /r" on my hard drive (J:/). It got to step five, but froze there...got nothing, for over 6 hours it sat there and not a thing at all.So I cancelled it, closed it out, and restarted the computer with the device plugged in.it reboots, and now...absolutely nothing. It doesn't even see that a drive exists.like I said, I've changed out the cables, moved power outlets, tried different computers and different ports, and done these steps on each of them:
1. Checked device manager...doesn't even show it on any of the computers.
2. Checked printers and devices..not even a hint.
3. Checked hidden devices on device manager...not even there.
I just recently had another issue. I was trying to get my ALFA AWSU036NHR wifi modem to work, but it wouldn't work. The difference was, I could see the device, the driver just didn't work. I fixed it by finding the driver (which was ridiculously hard to do until I start looking outside of the Alfa network of drivers and looked towards realtech. I downloaded a torrent of driver packs for windows 7 32 and 64.
Drive was fine in XP, new computer with 7, USB plug-in shows "USB Device Not Recognized?" The driver is up to date, per driver upgrade site?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI plug in a Western Digital external USB 2.0 drive (Usually sold at Costco) Don't have the model but as soon as I plug it in, I got a blue screen of death! I thought that was the end of the blue screen. I believe this is normal since the pool of plug and play drivers it's probably not up to date with all the various divices out there. I have plug in my Kanguru drive and Kingston flash drive without any problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I bought a used 2 TB Hard drive and it supposedly was only used a couple of times and I got a good deal.I plugged it in and the software was installed successfully but it doesn't show up in the explorer with a drive letter. Now when I go to the device manager it does show up but I am not able to format it or give it a letter etc. Also like I said in the title it doesn't have a fat32 or NTFS File System.The hard drive I right clicked is the one I am talking about.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently had to format my hard drive and re-install windows. I have also had to replace the motherboard, CPU and power supply. I borrowed a 1.5 TB Freecom firewire external hard drive from a friend to back-up important data before the format, but the transfer speed is uselessly slow now that I am attempting to put the data back on the drive.
I have tried:
- updating the drivers for the firewire card
- switching to 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (legacy) in the device manager
- Optimizing the drive for 'better performance' as opposed to 'speedy removal' in the drive's properties.
As things stand at the moment, I am getting about 400 kb/ps transfer speed from the external to my on-board drive. As you can imagine, this is virtually useless to me, considering I have hundreds of gigabytes worth of data to transfer.
I am copying files from a WHS 2003 to a back-up drive on a HTPC. The WHS and the HTPC are connected physically to a router. The back-up drive is USB 3.0 and plugged into a 3.0 USB input on the HTPC.
The transfer rate is only 40MB/second. Why is this? The data is being transferred via CAT6 cables from the WHS/Router/HTPC and then USB 3.0 to the external drive
I use the program there came with the disk, WDSmartWare. It's OK, but i can't delete the backup. It sounds strange to delete a backup, but it's because it's an old backup from another computer.I've tried to delete the folder in Ubuntu which i've installed on a third-partition. It seems to work, but when i change to Windows there is a folder named .Trash-1000. I HAVE emptied the trash can in Ubuntu. If I rename the folder in Windows to f.x. "Delete me!", I can see it again in Ubuntu. Maybe I have to say that i've a bit problems when i have to remove the HDD from Ubuntu. It's says that there still is a process running, but the process doesn't stop. I've waited for an hour now. If I right click on the process and select "End task", Ubuntu works a few seconds and when it says "You can remove the movable disk now".
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy problem is slow usb transfer rate - at first it start off real good (70-80 mb/s then within 10 sec it drops down to 3 and even 1 mb/s). 1.5 mb file gets into my flash drive in 10 min or so. Now I've formatted flash drives, no change. Write-caching enabled, "best performance" for flash drives enabled... Tried on a Lap-Top - transfer rate is not so high, but stable all the time - 15-12 mb/s. Remote Differential Compression disabled. Transfer rate within the hard drives in my computer is OK (I got 2). I don't know if it's the Windows 7 problem or the motherboard problem or hard drives config problem.

I opened my external drive case and took the 3.5" hard drive out so that I could connect to the computer internally with a SATA cable because I don't have an external SATA cable and internal SATA interface. I started the Windows 7 Ultimate system. The computer screen remained on "Starting Windows" forever.If my memory serves me right, I remember I did manage to access it with another computer before. That computer has been out of service. At present I can access it while the drive is in the case connected with a USB cable. The Windows explorer shows all the partitions in the drive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Computer(...) and I have recently found a problem that's pretty annoying: The file copying is really-really slower than on Windows XP and I mean that if I want to copy a folder which is about 650MBs over to a USB Flash Drive it takes about 1 day(what??) and the transfer rate is like 300KB/s. I have tried to look for solutions on the Internet but they haven't turned out handy. Could someone please help me asap as I need to give the USB to someone in a couple of hours?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Vantec NexStar TX NST-210S2-BK Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 wit a 120 GB Segate Harddrive in it connected to an Asus K61-IC laptop and my transfer speeds on all my USB Ports are acting super slow.Also, Just recently I've had a balloon tip start popping up in the taskbar telling me that if I hook my USB Devices up to a USB 2.0 Port it will run faster. I'm pretty sure that all my USB Port's are 2.0.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi just notice that my usb transfer is really slow around 11mb/sec for my usb stick and around 20mb/sec for my external hard drive. I noticed this change right after installing SP1. (I'm on windows 7 ultimate 64bit.) The thing is that it happenned in a particular moment, i was transfering files to my external hard drive the same day i installed Sp1 and in the beginning of the transfer the transfer speed was normal, around 60mb/sec. Then my Internet security software (Eset Smart Security) tells me that a process has changed in i think it was taskhost.exe (i am not 100% sure but i know it was a windows process), it ask me do i accept it, i press ok accept the change and then i saw my transfer speed slowed down right away to something like 20mb/sec.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs of recently (for the last couple of weeks) I noticed that the transfer rate to my external WD Elements SE 1TB drive is very very slow (~2MB/sec). This wasn't always the case, and the drive was much more responsive than that.
I searched about this topic extensively and the only thing I found was an issue with installing Windows 7 SP1 that in some cases screwed up the USB2 drivers. This was supposedly addressed by KB2529073 which is installed on my system. However, I'm still experiencing this ulta slow transfer rate.

Specifications are:Intel Core i5-480M, 15.6" HD (1366x768) LED-backlit, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Combo Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M 1GB, Wireless N, HDMI, Webcam, 9-cell, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I updated the RAM to 8GB on the laptop.Using the same external hard drive, I can get rates at an average of 30MB/s and better performance is also disabled on the laptop.I Don't know what the difference is they both have Windows 7 64 bit, just the laptop is Home Premium and my desktop is Windows 7 Enterprise.

The way I did this was to open my external hard drive and at the same time opened Windows Media Player on my computer and dragged the files from the external hard drive onto the new computer, everything seemed to be ok, all the music was organized in genre and albums titles etc, however when I tried to open a file to play a window came up telling me that the file was empty, I know that the music files can be playe3d on my external harde drive.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought an external HD drive and it's very good but ... When I attach my external hard drive start up becomes painfully slow , like at least 5 times slower !. I get past the BIOS load screen fine but once the computer gets to the Starting Windows screen it sits there for a good 30-60 seconds. Then when the screen goes black (as it's going from the "starting windows" screen with the little windows 7 icon to the login screen) it again sits for anywhere from 1-2minutes, if not longer.i have an old external HD and I've been using it for 2 years and never had this problem !another thing when i click on " safely remove the HD " before i reboot and without taking the usb off the computer just stats normally !
