Transitioning From Mac To Windows 7 / Shortkey For Volume Down

Oct 9, 2011

Is there some shortkey for controlling the volume and the screen brightness (if it's not a laptop and such keys are not available on the keyboard)? Also, what would be the Windows equivalent to 'All Windows', 'Dashboard', 'Application Widows' and 'Show Desktop'? Sometimes I like to put multiple windows of a browser in different spaces so I can better navigate around them; how can you do this on Windows 7?

Huge Difference Transitioning From XP Windows 7

Mar 15, 2012

I recently formatted my computer running windows XP & installed Windows 7 - 64 bit. (actually, it's been about a week).I've noticed that games have been super laggy and the FPS could drop to 1 FPS from time to time. It has made it extremely difficult for me to play Starcraft II and other games.I have installed all the correct & most recent drivers for my hardware (mobo, graphics card, sound card, etc...). I've done virus scans even though I haven't really downloaded much onto my PC aside from iTunes, Chrome, etc.I've played around with my nVidia control panel settings, & in game graphic settings (from highest to lowest). It didn't fix the low FPS.

Soft Recording Volume With Blue Yeti / Increasing Volume Distorts Audio

Mar 28, 2012

so i have a blue yeti, and i'm an online animator/voice actor. whenever i record audio on my blue yeti (or any other mic) i record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as i yell or whatever. this is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. however, afterwards, it means i have really quite recordings. not a problem right? now that it's recorded right, i can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? wrong. i'm not an audio expert so i must be missing something. but why in gods name would the audio distort and peak after it's recorded successfully? it's all there, it's all clean audio. if i turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds crystal clear! all i want to do is do that inside the computer so that when i upload it to Internet people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. but if i increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! it sounds awful! why?! i tried in sony acid and audacity and they both do the same thing! i can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart!

Volume Buttons Is Not Adjusting Volume On New Keyboard

Mar 1, 2012

I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Windows Volume Resets To 100%

Jun 16, 2011

my computer recently has started to reset the volume to 100% and keep it at that level, it is unable to be reduced to a better level.a week ago, I installed X-Lite 4, on my computer so i was able to start setting up my voip phone.this problem started about 4 days ago and i was able at first been able to get around it by restarting my computer but then some time later time varies, it would just reset volume to full level.with this doing this it has displayed on my screen bottom middle screen, a picture fo a speaker and showing volume bar at full. this is always ontop of all other windows.the only way I have been able to get rid of this is by stopping the service "audiosrv" through task manager.I have since done a scan with spybot, cleaned my computer with c cleaner, ran my virus scanner etc.

I have also changed property changes in audio settings and nothing has made a difference.I have also uninstalled x-lite, done a system restore to about 2 weeks ago, nothing still made any difference. I am running Windows 7 ultimate 32bit, on a pentium dual core at the moment I am thinking that maybe my audiosrv.dll file or something assoicated with it may be currupt or been infected and not being picked up so far.I have to be able to fix this issue with doing a fix. without a reinstall of the OS / software.

Upgrading Using A Volume Windows 7 Dvd?

Nov 17, 2010

I was given a laptop at work. It came with win 7 home. The workplace has access to a win 7 pro dvd for which apparently no key needs to be entered.

1. Can I upgrade using win 7 anytime upgrade using the in 7 pro dvd from work? Or does it require a reinstallation?

2. If it is a reinstall, is there some way use the drivers already on the laptop to make things easier? There is a recovery partition on the laptop ~16GB, there is also a drivers partition.

3. If I can do an upgrade, can I change the language? The current language on the laptop is european; the language on the win 7 pro dvd is english.

Raid 0 Windows Ntfs Gpt Volume?

Aug 3, 2011

Setup mb asus p6t6 ich10r (raid controller) 2 x vertex 30GB 2 x seagate 1.5TB in ( motherboards controller fakeraid ) raid 0 array Volume1 = 1 GPT partition with 1 windows dynamic simple volume ntfs formated (just 1 big ~3TB partition for storage created on a previous install of Windows 7)

Reinstall Window 7 on a vertex

Problem: After reinstall the raid array is not recognized by Windows 7 it asks me to initialize the disk (which is a raid volume). I say yes, then asks to create MBR or GPT i say GPT. But then it says the disk is unallocated and wants me to create a new dynamic volume, i say simple volume. But now is asking to format... and here i stopped, with out formating to new ntfs.

Questions: Is there a way to recuperate / restore / reinstate / recover / rescue / rebuild .... the old dynamic ntfs simple volume ? So that i could access the data without having to use a data recuperation program for 3TB of data.

Will a quick ntfs format and a scan-disk make that possible?

Recover A Dynamic Volume In Windows 7?

Nov 19, 2012

i have a single hard drive with 2 partitions. 1st partition with Windows 7 OS and the second strictly for data. yesterday i decided to try software raid using windows disk management. firstly, i added another identical but empty hard drive into the computer. boot it up and went into disk management. i right-clicked on the 2nd partition (data partition) on the original hard drive, and selected add mirror. after a few seconds, the disk management tell me an error "failed redundancy" on both my old 2nd partition and the hard drive i just added. so without thinking much, i decided to delete volume on the new hard drive (bad move!), and guess what, it deleted the new hard drive volume together with the original hard drive's 2nd partition (contains data!). now it is showing as unallocated space and i have not format nor create a new volume over it.(i think the data is still intact)

is there anyway to recover the volume?

*i know there is a fix within windows using dmdiag but that is for non-mirror volume(dynamic disk) only. also tried with easeus partition master but still unable to recover the partition as it is a dynamic disk.

*minitool partition recovery doesnt work either for dynamic disk..any other recommendation?

Windows 7 Volume Drops To Silence?

Feb 29, 2012

I've been searching the web for some answer to this. I have an dell optiplex usff 755 with an intel core 2 duo processor that is having an audio issue with windows 7. Anytime I am watching a movie when the audio gets to a low level in the movie it drops out completely and goes to complete silence. It's really annoying because you lose the background ambience of the movie. Occassionally soft music will be playing in the background or birds chirping and then the sound goes to complete silence until someone starts to talk or a loud noise is made. This is not an issue with a certain movie file, it will happen with any movie. Even stuff I have recorded from TV using windows media center. I also don't think it is the player (I use media center a lot) because I have played the files in other players such as windows media player and KM player and the same thing happens.

Windows 7 Shrink Volume Limit

Sep 6, 2012

I just installed a fresh new copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to my newly bought free dos computer yesterday. Later I installed my motherboard drivers, monitor drivers and optical disk drivers. I also installed CC cleaner.

Now I am trying to partition my 500GB Hardisk. The C: drive is around 465GB so I want to reduce C: to 150GB (OS+Programs/Software) and make another D: drive which will have the rest 315GB (Personal files + games).

The problem now is there is a limit in the shrink volume amount. And this limit i quite big. It only lets me reduce the C: drive to 243GB. Here is the Screenshot:

I tried disabling Shadows Copy, Paging File, Hibernation and System Restore but its still the same. I also tried defragging using the default windows defragger but nothing worked.

Shrinked Volume On Windows 7 Disappears After Re-installation?

Feb 14, 2011

I just bought the Laptop with Windows Vista Business, but I upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate. Then I partitioned the 250G hard drive to install another OS on the new Partition. I used System Management to shrink 80G from the 222G available, but I have not installed anything on the new partition before the Windows 7 had problem, so I had to use HP system recovery to restore the PC back to factory default. After restoring, I installed windows 7 again and it worked properly. I later wanted to shrink 80G again as I did before, but I couldn't. Though the Hard Disk properties showed that the Disk is 222G, I could not shrink more than 9G, despite having more than 100G free space. It seems as if the system did cot recover the Hard drive to its original state. Please someone help me out. I need to partition/shrink up to 80G from the 115G remaining, but the system is giving me only 9G plus available to shrink/partition.

Reinstalled Windows 7 / Maximum Volume Is Now Lower

Aug 9, 2012

The other day I bought a new HDD, and decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 for it. After getting it all installed and installing all the drivers and Windows updates, I decided to watch a movie. I then realized that the audio volume was (as a ballpark guess) 20-30% quieter than I was used to. I rebooted and loaded up the old Windows install, since I still have it, and started up the movie and the volume was back to the level that I was used to.Reinstalled drivers; From motherboard website, from Realtek website, and even went over and backed up the drivers on my old install to reinstall on the new drive.Checked all audio panel settings, made sure everything was turned up and set the same as my old install. Made sure it wasn't an issue with the media player program I was using; Reinstalled it and made sure the settings were the same as my old install. [code]
