Reinstalled Windows 7 / Maximum Volume Is Now Lower
Aug 9, 2012
The other day I bought a new HDD, and decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 for it. After getting it all installed and installing all the drivers and Windows updates, I decided to watch a movie. I then realized that the audio volume was (as a ballpark guess) 20-30% quieter than I was used to. I rebooted and loaded up the old Windows install, since I still have it, and started up the movie and the volume was back to the level that I was used to.Reinstalled drivers; From motherboard website, from Realtek website, and even went over and backed up the drivers on my old install to reinstall on the new drive.Checked all audio panel settings, made sure everything was turned up and set the same as my old install. Made sure it wasn't an issue with the media player program I was using; Reinstalled it and made sure the settings were the same as my old install. [code]

Whenever I redo my windows, the overall volume is greatly decreased and I mean with master volume of the windows maxed out. After a few days or weeks the volume gets back up where you can actually understand a songs lyrics.

Is it possible in Windows 7 Home 64-bit to increase the native volume available for speakers. In other words elevate the volume over the defaulted maximum that comes with the software? I am having problems with the volume when I am using headsets. With all gages set to maximum volume both in speakers control and the actual headset volume it is still inefficient., as in not high enough. Is there any form to tinker and manually overrule those settings?

Recently I wanted to check out WinXP. I installed it and it ran pretty good. But Since I use Dx 10 for some of my gaming I decided Re-install 7. When I returned to 7 I noticed WEI giving me a lower score then what I used to have. I used to have a 4.2 Aero / 5.4 Gaming graphics. Now its showing at best a 3.8 Aero / 5.3 Gaming graphics score. I say at best because first going into Windows after the re-install it showed 3.7 Aero / 5.2 Gaming. And at the 2nd day in use 3.8 Aero / 5.3 Gaming. I did everything normal as always, installed DX update, Java, Flash, Visual C+. So maybe it just needs time to improve itself or maybe I'm missing something I don't know. The Graphics Driver is up to date and is setup as it always was when I had the high score. I know Windows 7 Improves Performance over time with superfetch so I'll continue to monitor it.

I noticed that my current resolution is set automatically by Windows 7 to the max on a 22'' screen which is 1680*1050 at that high resolution everything is super sharp and crisp.. But if i try to go a little lower, even by one step, the text and the objects seem a little bit less sharp. For example if I go to the 1280*1024 resolution, like I am used to while running windows XP, the sharpness fades a little bit..
I just update my Video card driver
here are my spec:
E6600 overclocked to 3.4Ghz
ATI 4890
4GB (currently using 3.2GB on a 32-bit system)
Asus P5N32-SLI Motherboard

I ran the WEI and gaming graphics is reported at 3.1The gaming score of WEI before i reformatted was 3.5. I have the latest windows 7 x3100 drivers from intel.com since the dell site supports vista x32 only. i have latest chipset drivers.

so i have a blue yeti, and i'm an online animator/voice actor. whenever i record audio on my blue yeti (or any other mic) i record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as i yell or whatever. this is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. however, afterwards, it means i have really quite recordings. not a problem right? now that it's recorded right, i can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? wrong. i'm not an audio expert so i must be missing something. but why in gods name would the audio distort and peak after it's recorded successfully? it's all there, it's all clean audio. if i turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds crystal clear! all i want to do is do that inside the computer so that when i upload it to Internet people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. but if i increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! it sounds awful! why?! i tried in sony acid and audacity and they both do the same thing! i can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart!

I found out that the partition size exceeded the roughly 200Gig (approximately or less - from running Vista on two machines). I was not sure if the maximum partition size was dependent upon the operating system or the motherboard chip-set.I ended up crashing my original ATA 133 500 gig drive on the C: partition. The drive was an ATA drive and my plan is to install a Blu-Ray / DVD RW drive. Currently I have a DVD Read Write installed and it wouldn't hurt to keep both of the optical drives on the motherboard's ATA pins. This will delegate the 500 gig Maxtor drive to a USB backup or possibly for my PS3. This leaves the 1TB drive and a couple of questions.1) I intend to partition the 1TB drive in into 2 partitions. This is to prevent the loss of the entire partition (as what happened to the ATA drive) and protecting the second partition for downloads and backups. For a reasonable price I can add another (up to 8) SATA drive[s] and rather than use them to automatically copy the other SATA, I will add additional storage.(2) The mainboard was made for compatibility with Vista (another question). Am I correct in assuming that the MSI CoreCell(tm) nForce 570 Chipset board with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) 64/FX/X2 Processors and 2 Gig or ram will not operate properly (true multitasking) with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) operating system. Am I better off waiting for a true i5 board?

How do you reassign COM ports in Windows 7? I have several 30 x USB pic programmers and they are in the 70s, 80s and 90s and I know there is nothing else on the system. My programming software can cope with up to 33 x Com ports so I need to reassign to use ports in that range. how i get in and reassign them?

I have a MSI K9N Platinum mainboard with 2-Gig of ram (chosen so that I can over-clock the board if I choose). I have the NVIDIA 570 Chipset with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) processor. I had it set up with a 128-Gig partition that I set up when I had Vista Professional (64-bit) installed. A year ago or so I upgraded to Windows 7 Home which worked out much better (even if the mainboard was pre-Windows 7). I installed a PNY Nvidia 210 video board (but am having some trouble getting the driver to work with Windows 7).
My main harddrive is a Maxtor 500-Gig ATA drive that is partitioned with 128-Gig for the C: drive which was the maximum I could use at the time with Vista Pro. I also have a 1TB SATA drive installed for data storage and another 1TB Seagate USB drive for media storage. There is also another 1TB backup drive (Maxtor) connected to my Fios Router.I am having problems with the 500-Gig ATA C: drive - bad sectors or corrupted data. I've isolated most of the data but can't remove it. I need to keep the computer up and working and have wasted enough time with the bad drive.
I want to use the SATA drive installed on the MSI mainboard. Can you tell me what the largest partition size I can have to install Windows 7 Home (assuming I can remove it from my main hard drive on this machine before or after to allow a new installation). I use the primary drive mostly for program installation although Windows 7 generally places all of the libraries on the same drive as a default. If it won't slow me down, I would like to use as much of the 1TB SATA drive as possible. Is there a maximum partition size that I need if I convert the SATA drive to replace the C: drive or boot drive?

My audio jack recently broke, so I'm using a USB "sound card", which basically converts a USB port into an audio jack. Everything's working just fine, the problem is that it is way too loud. I'm using a pair of ear buds and VLC media player to play my music, and both are set to 1%, but the music is still much too loud. When I set both to max, I can literally use my ear buds as an external speaker. I would like some sort of way to decrease my audio output by like 99%, because it's just about 100 times too loud.

I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.
First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.
A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)
