View 2 RepliesI have a videoediting software that I am runing on 32 bit Windows 7 with 4 Gb RAM, the company that makes the software suggests to set the Virtual Memory/PageFile Size to double the RAM amount.I looked and mine is set to auto, I have many drives and all say none and are grayed out under paging file size for each drive. Which drive should I double the paging file ? the drive the software is installed on ? what about all my other drives, once I take it off auto they will not be managed. Should I set them all to double the RAM and if so how will it affect my system?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI found out that the partition size exceeded the roughly 200Gig (approximately or less - from running Vista on two machines). I was not sure if the maximum partition size was dependent upon the operating system or the motherboard chip-set.I ended up crashing my original ATA 133 500 gig drive on the C: partition. The drive was an ATA drive and my plan is to install a Blu-Ray / DVD RW drive. Currently I have a DVD Read Write installed and it wouldn't hurt to keep both of the optical drives on the motherboard's ATA pins. This will delegate the 500 gig Maxtor drive to a USB backup or possibly for my PS3. This leaves the 1TB drive and a couple of questions.1) I intend to partition the 1TB drive in into 2 partitions. This is to prevent the loss of the entire partition (as what happened to the ATA drive) and protecting the second partition for downloads and backups. For a reasonable price I can add another (up to 8) SATA drive[s] and rather than use them to automatically copy the other SATA, I will add additional storage.(2) The mainboard was made for compatibility with Vista (another question). Am I correct in assuming that the MSI CoreCell(tm) nForce 570 Chipset board with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) 64/FX/X2 Processors and 2 Gig or ram will not operate properly (true multitasking) with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) operating system. Am I better off waiting for a true i5 board?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MSI K9N Platinum mainboard with 2-Gig of ram (chosen so that I can over-clock the board if I choose). I have the NVIDIA 570 Chipset with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) processor. I had it set up with a 128-Gig partition that I set up when I had Vista Professional (64-bit) installed. A year ago or so I upgraded to Windows 7 Home which worked out much better (even if the mainboard was pre-Windows 7). I installed a PNY Nvidia 210 video board (but am having some trouble getting the driver to work with Windows 7).
My main harddrive is a Maxtor 500-Gig ATA drive that is partitioned with 128-Gig for the C: drive which was the maximum I could use at the time with Vista Pro. I also have a 1TB SATA drive installed for data storage and another 1TB Seagate USB drive for media storage. There is also another 1TB backup drive (Maxtor) connected to my Fios Router.I am having problems with the 500-Gig ATA C: drive - bad sectors or corrupted data. I've isolated most of the data but can't remove it. I need to keep the computer up and working and have wasted enough time with the bad drive.
I want to use the SATA drive installed on the MSI mainboard. Can you tell me what the largest partition size I can have to install Windows 7 Home (assuming I can remove it from my main hard drive on this machine before or after to allow a new installation). I use the primary drive mostly for program installation although Windows 7 generally places all of the libraries on the same drive as a default. If it won't slow me down, I would like to use as much of the 1TB SATA drive as possible. Is there a maximum partition size that I need if I convert the SATA drive to replace the C: drive or boot drive?

In other words does it have to be 4 x 1gb sticks of ram or can I use 2 x 2gb sticks? The reason I ask is that I've had lots of bsod and crashes recently and after performing lots of tests using memtest it seems that 2 of the ram slots on my motherboard are bad meaning I only have 2 good ones to use.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOk so I was trying to install dell quickset which doesn't work no matter what I do since I upgraded to 8gb or ram and installed a ssd. The main problem is I don't have the pagefile turned on so windows won't boot and safe mode boots but only has 240MB of ram and it so full you can't run anything.I have no system restore points. All I need to do is undo the max memory setting. Tried last known config, running msconfig in safe mode, bcdedit.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if it's normal for Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, to take up 51 GBs of space after just being installed. Here's my background,I just installed a copy of Windows 7 Professional to my SSD.I was running Windows 7 Home Premium on the same SSD before, but decided to upgrade to Pro because I got more RAM But, for some really lame reasons, I ended up having an issue and reformatted and re-install the Pro version 3 times today. I reformatted by installing Windows 7 Pro from the disk and "deleting" the SSD partition when selecting a location to install. It works now and appears stable. However, Windows 7 Pro is now consuming almost 51 GBs of my 60 GB SSD.I'm assuming my reformatting went bad somewhere? Selecting all of the files on the drive also says that there's only 12.9 GBs of data.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Windows 7 now since 6th of May, and love it! I haven't had any troubles except 2, but this topic is meant for only one.
I remembered an application called Everest, it lists all of your hardware and information about it, OS and stuff, really nice. It also has tab for sensors, where you can monitor temperature.
When i was looking around in Everest, I found out somehow 7gigs. of virtual memory is available, and most of the time somewhere around 2gig. is being used. That was kind of weird, because I have 4 gigs of RAM, and most of the time only 25% is used of it. So, why would Windows prefer use of the virtual memory over the use of physical memory? I found out virtual memory could be managed in "advanced system settings". because 2.5 gigs of virtual memory was used most of the time, I thought: why not just completely disable paging file.
So it's: computer --> right click properties --> advanced system settings --> advanced tab --> performance --> settings --> virtual memory --> change.
So finally comes the problem, I have successfully disabled the paging file, and it says "total paging size for all drives: 0 mb". But when I go to Everest, it still says I have 7 gigs of Virtual Memory available, and it uses 2 gigs. I want to make full use of my physical memory!
FYI: whenever I download games, applications and multimedia, I store it or install it in D: leaving C: with enough space as much as possible thinking that it's good if C: is not loaded with programs and files since OS is stored there.
