My computer is giving me problems and I think im going to reinstall windows 7 with a clean install. I would like to know if there is a way I could move my games and some of my programs without downloading them.
View 5 RepliesI have a win 7 ultimate x64 box. I used to run XP. I loaded fresh on new drives, and installed the OS, some office and utils on drive C: as normal. I have 2 more drives, D: and E:, that I have installed about a terabyte of games/simulators on. I have installed these on both drives under program files folder. During install and setup of the OS, I turned off UAC because it was taking way to long to answer all the prompts to make sure this is what I wanted to do. So after done installing everything a week later, I flip UAC back on. Now I can't run anything without UAC kicking in and it does mess up some of my programs.
Should I just turn UAC off and leave it or do a reinstall, and put all my games on drive D and E in a folder called Games or something like that to prevent UAC from wearing me out. Other possibilities I was thinking of is renaming D: program files to d: games and do the same on drive E:, then find eplace anything in the registry from D: program files to D: games, do the same for E:. Would that work or would I wind up hosing my install?
Im planning to buy a PS3 move, but I was thinking if its worth it. Can you give me a feedback on what you think of the move and what games you love to play with it? I'm a fan of adventure games, so i want the move to be like a sword or whatever, where i can swing it and stuff. I also plan on playing FPS with it, not a fan of FPS, but I think the PS3 Move can make it better.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded Vista x64 Ultimate to Win 7 x64 Ultimate. The upgrade went fine - no major issues with the upgrade process. I am, though, having some small issues when running 7:
1. Outlook 2007 process remains open after closing Outlook.
2. Very slow closing certain programs/games.
3. Gadgets doesn't work.
4. Occasional empty folder pops up on taskbar that I can't close.
5. WEI for my SATA3 HD is 2.9 - 500GB Seagate
6. System shutdowns take forever
The system, overall, seems to be quite responsive but the problems I'm running into are somewhat frustrating.
Not sure if these have been addressed in other threads yet, as I'm still searching them. I'm guessing that part of it may be due to MB driver issues, but not sure - running an EVGA 780i MB.
Im using Windows 7 now for a while. I was reading on another forums reports by multiple users about abnormal usage of RAM (100% usage) while installing games or programs and it causes stalling while CPU usage is near 0%. I also asked these question on another forum and didnt get anwser.
I was wondering why, because I didnt notice that behaviour on my computer never before. But yesterday when I was installing a game I noticed just that. The installation proces was very slow, RAM usage was 100%, CPU at zero. So I suspect a update of a kind or something similar is cousing this problem.
well my laptop was performing fine until a few weeks ago it started to freeze up during some games which it didnt before. I play games a lot so i thought my laptop had lost it efficiency but there are other games where everything is smooth.
I have done the "dxdiag","updating drivers", "windows memory diagnostics","windows update" and so on but everything seems fine. I have been going through enough posts so i think my system specifications is required.

Currently the programs/games that lags are vlc player(movies dont run as smooth as it used to), World of Warcraft, Counter Strike (offline or online). However games that requires higher graphics like Assasin's creed works just fine.
So out of nowhere my computer started restarting everytime I play a game or rune a program (ie skype, ect.)

Wenn i open some programs or games, there are two black parts at the right and the left of the screen.I have also uptated all my drivers using widows update and also drivers genius professional.

View 8 Replies View RelatedLast night I installed two programs, one called honor buddy, which is a WoW bot, and the other tortoise.When I later started WoW (MMO Game), I got extreme FPS drops. I usually have 70-100 fps depending where I am, but now I can barely turn the camera without getting freeze lag/ massive fps drop for some seconds, then it goes back to normal fps for a few seconds and then it starts to freeze again. And as I said I normally have around 100 fps in this area.f I dont move my camera and just walk forward I dont fps drop, but as soon as I do, I freeze..So something happened when I installed these two programs, I do not think I've got a virus because I have not heard anything negative about the programs. I ran a scan for viruses and similiar with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and didnt find anything harmful.So what can be wrong, can it be fixed without reinstalling windows

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

I have Administrative rights to the computers only, and network access rights on our network. I keep a number of computers up to date, including various 3rd-party programs (i.e. java, flash, etc), and I currently manually remotely connect to each computer and install the updates to the programs from a network share, then run Windows update, select all the critical updates (as well as all the applicable optional updates), then disconnect and move on to the next one. Needless to say, time quickly adds up.

I get a window saying install was successful, I can open power point or excel but when I try to open word it hangs up at the word logo page. I have done remove programs in control panel, I have used revo uninstall to try to clean the registry. I suspect a corrupted fragment in the registry but don't know how to get at it.
View 1 Replies View Relatedone of my co-workers wants me to get rid of some viruses and install office 2010 home and student on her computer with the key she bought. her computer runs windows 7 64-bit. after backing up her data, i finally ended up doing a factory reinstall from the backup partition. so i downloaded all windows updates and installed antivirus and firewall software. then i downloaded the office 2010 trial and tried to install it. it seems to begin installing without any problems. then a splash screen for powerpoint appears. it says that its "processing" and does that for about 20 minutes and then there is a balloon that pops up saying that office is downloading files. after all that happens, an error message appears that says something like "powerpoint cannot be opened. please try again later or repair this software in the control panel" with no sort of error code. i then tried repairing it from control panel which claims to complete successfully. so i restart and try to install again and the same thing happens all over again. if i try opening word, excel, powerpoint or onenote the splash screen appears and does the same thing that i described powerpoint was doing. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. i also tried installing the 60 day trial for office 2007 that came preloaded with the computer and then installing office 2010 over it. same thing happened.

That I only wanted a good answer and good people.Im having a problem here it is ive reinstalled Windows 7, I have my old program files directory with my games. They are cracked, because im too lazy to use the dvd's and change them all the time. So I know they dont have to be installed the long way because theyve worked when Ive reinstalled before.But I cant remember what things I had to put on to make the majority of them work.NFS hot pursuit, GTA4, Cyrsis, Deadspace, all them.Ive put on Direct X 11, Runtimes from Direct 9 and most distros.Though Ive tried to put on Visual C++ runtimes, i tried removing them after I put everyone I could find on, and now they are a bit broken up where I cant uninstall them from the program add remove menu off control panel.
If I am running Windows 64, do I need to install the x86 packs. Because I have been, and did so last and previous working install of windows both packs. ? This is worth a lot to me even know that.Since I just put on the OS, Im sure it cant be as silly as reinstalling it again.I used IOBIT uninstaller, to rid the other visual basic runtimes, but they are left on the program add/remove still.
I am attempting to install the Pokemon trading card game onto my computer. The installer does lead me to another place to download it, but they say for it to work it must be downloaded into program files (x86). So I attempted to download it there, but it says that I do not have permission to do so. I am the only administrator, so I do not know why this could be happening.
