No Games Work After Re-install OS
May 5, 2011
Im not sure why my orginal thread got deleted, but it probably had something to do with the lines. That I only wanted a good answer and good people.Im having a problem here it is ive reinstalled Windows 7, I have my old program files directory with my games. They are cracked, because im too lazy to use the dvd's and change them all the time. So I know they dont have to be installed the long way because theyve worked when Ive reinstalled before. But I cant remember what things I had to put on to make the majority of them work.NFS hot pursuit, GTA4, Cyrsis, Deadspace, all them.Ive put on Direct X 11, Runtimes from Direct 9 and most distros.Though Ive tried to put on Visual C++ runtimes, i tried removing them after I put everyone I could find on, and now they are a bit broken up where I cant uninstall them from the program add remove menu off control panel.
If I am running Windows 64, do I need to install the x86 packs. Because I have been, and did so last and previous working install of windows both packs. ? This is worth a lot to me even know that.Since I just put on the OS, Im sure it cant be as silly as reinstalling it again.I used IOBIT uninstaller, to rid the other visual basic runtimes, but they are left on the program add/remove still.

I've tried 3 games so far. Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs doesn't work but Botanicula does. Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs are complaining for missing .dll files but I doubt that Windows 7 optimized .dll files will solve the issue.
The games' setup were run on Windows 7 targeted to an external drive, and I'm trying to use the same drive with the Windows 7 games installed on Windows 8 right now. So do I have to reinstall them on Windows 8?
Note that the Windows 7 Compatibility Mode for the .exe files didn't work.

when I upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (not clean install), will my installed games still work? I just don't really want to go through the hassle of reinstalling 30gb worth of content :P.
This is a separate issue from game compatibility (I have read the list), I just want to know if games will work after an upgrade.
Basically, do games make changes to the registry, or are they simply composed of the files in the installation folder?

I want to buy a controller that will work with new games that requires Xbox 360 wired controller. I bought a cheap Chinese controller but it works on games prior the year 2007. New games like Borderlands, Call of Duty cannot be played with this controller. I saw Logitech F310 controllers which looks good but not sure if it works on these games. which games can be played with controllers.

All my old games used to run correctly(Hitman 2&3, Max Payne, Quake 2 etc). I installed AOE 3 but had to uninstall because my display is not supported. Now all my games that used to work don't run but make my system lag really bad! in the task manager the game runs as a process with a "rundll.exe" that uses 100% CPU until I close the process tree

I am attempting to install the Pokemon trading card game onto my computer. The installer does lead me to another place to download it, but they say for it to work it must be downloaded into program files (x86). So I attempted to download it there, but it says that I do not have permission to do so. I am the only administrator, so I do not know why this could be happening.

I have a win 7 ultimate x64 box. I used to run XP. I loaded fresh on new drives, and installed the OS, some office and utils on drive C: as normal. I have 2 more drives, D: and E:, that I have installed about a terabyte of games/simulators on. I have installed these on both drives under program files folder. During install and setup of the OS, I turned off UAC because it was taking way to long to answer all the prompts to make sure this is what I wanted to do. So after done installing everything a week later, I flip UAC back on. Now I can't run anything without UAC kicking in and it does mess up some of my programs.
Should I just turn UAC off and leave it or do a reinstall, and put all my games on drive D and E in a folder called Games or something like that to prevent UAC from wearing me out. Other possibilities I was thinking of is renaming D: program files to d: games and do the same on drive E:, then find eplace anything in the registry from D: program files to D: games, do the same for E:. Would that work or would I wind up hosing my install?

I just installed my first pc game. It is Call of Duty Black Ops (no, I'm not 12, my nephew is )I changed install path to D:Games (have user folders relocated there, thats about it, no programs ever installed on d data partition.Installation froze and locked up first time. Had to power off to get out.Second time was logged off my admin account by nephew while installing, though the install ran for a long time - should have completed anyways, after installing, it's not showing anywhere: checked box for install desktop shortcut - not there, not showing up under win start> all programs or games.Tried to launch directly from install path folder... blackops.exe ERROR says: "Blinkw32.dll missing...
1) I never installed steam or anything, could that be the problem?(I'm on different pc now, game pc doesn't have internet right now
2) Can't uninstall! Not showing up as installed program. Uninstaller in game directory won't work. There are 2 uninstall.dll ( 1 for each failed install I guess)
2a) Windows didn't recognize as a program install cause no restore point created before (IS This because I changed install path away from C:programs???)In future how do I deal with installing games to d data partition and have system trat as program install? not listed as program, can't uninstall from control panel
2b) HOW DO I REMOVE FAILED INSTALLS (BOTH).Do I just delete or did the installer likely create all kinds of entries in various other locations that would possibly leave HUGE files elsewhere???

I Built a new computer for myself a while back and gave my old one to my brother... The thing is that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for him and I planned to get a key after the trial time was up but I never did it and he's getting tired of the reminders to activate now that the trial has run out and I can't locate a reasonably priced legit key so I was going to just install Vista back into the computer for him (It came with Vista Premium 64 bit OEM) but I only have a Vista Premium 32 Bit OEM install disk and I can't find a Vista 64 Bit OEM ISO online anywhere so I wondered if I could use the 64 bit key associated with the computer but use that key for a 32 bit install ????

I had Windows XP SP3 installed on this home made desktop and everything worked fine. I formatted the drive to install Windows 7 Home Premium.1-I had issues installing, it kept getting stuck after the install at the "Starting Windows" screen so I disabled USB in the bios.
-Now everything works great but when I re-enable USB it freezes in the same place.
-Taken out RAM and tried different sticks.
-Tried disabling the floppy and other drives
-Updated the bios

A problem arised with Windows Installer-package. A DLL-file that is needed to finish this installation couldn't be run. Contact supportstaff or your supplier of this package. That is what my computer says when I am trying to install Java. Why do I have to install a DLL-file? I haven't had to done that before when installing Java.Other programs has also told me to download a special DLL-file, but Java doesn't tell me which one, so I can't download it
