"The Action Could Not Be Completed. Try The Action Again"
May 27, 2011
I have a new machine running Win 7 Home Premium 64, which came preinstalled with Office 2010 Starter. I'm trying to uninstall all Office software, but Office Click-to-Run 2010 won't uninstall. When I try to uninstall it from the Programs and Features screen, I get an error message that reads, "The action could not be completed. Try the action again. If the action continues, contact Microsoft Product Support."I have tried the Microsoft Fix it for Me wizard (How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?) to no avail, and I've tried Revo Uninstaller, which removes Office Click-to-Run from the Add or Remove Programs screen but does not uninstall it cleanly. There are two other Office 2010 entries in the Programs and Features list: Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English and Microsoft Office 2010. These uninstall without any issue, but Office Click-to-Run 2010 won't budge.
From time to time when I click to perform an action I receive a notice in a window named "Server Busy". When I click on "Switch to" it goes to the start window, so I do not know which program to activate and correct the problem what ever it is. This is the message:This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose "switch to" to activate the busy program and correct the problem. There are 3 buttons "Switch To" "Retry" "Cancel"When I check the properties of the message it seems to be connected to IE. I am having a problem with IE9 that I have posted on this forum. The answers I continue to get from the forum are for problems listed in the forum at least 2 years ago.
When I try to delete a few videos on my desktop it will not allow me by saying that they are use by another program. The other program has been uninstalled a little while back so I am not sure how to fix. I've checked several places and it's not on my computer any longer.
I'm getting this message when I try to transfer folder to another location on my hard drive."The action cannot be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program."The problem is I don't know what program has the folder open. How do I find out which program it is so I can close it and move the folder to another location?
I'm on a network where I keep my files but I'm very aware of whether or not these might be open elsewhere. From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.
I am using kis 2009 on Windows 7 but I have one message and I am not sure what's the meaning....The message is on picture...so if someone have this problem please report it..
I launched a game today but when the menu appeared the mouse was blocked in the middle of the screen and i could not move it , so i thought its just a normal problem and it's gonna be fixed . Then i tried to delete a file with Shift + Delete and it didn't worked , so some of the action keys are not working.
I have a Windows 7 laptop (Thinkpad T420s), Many times I have tried setting the "Power buttons and lid -> Lid close action" to Hibernate on "On Battery" and "Plugged in" but when I click ok and immediately open the same settings via "Change advanced power settings" I see that my changes are not saved and the settings shows default value "Do nothing".I even tried changing the "Power plan" to Balanced, "Maximum battery life" etc but nowhere I could get this option work.I tried "powercfg /hibernate on" and then doing the above things but that too did not I tried other option also ("Sleep") , but they too did not work and the settings revert to default "Do nothing" everytime.Modifying "Change what closing the lid does" also does not work.Could somebody give me some clue about how do I set it up to Hibernate on "lid close". Right now I have created a shortcut for hibernate and double click on it before closing the lid.
Windows is currently freezing up after startup. This started after receiving a blue screen during one startup. On the next startup, there was a small dialogue box; I opted not to restore the computer to a previous state.
Now, Windows loads normally, but generally the first action taken freezes the computer (mouse will move, but that's it). I have managed open a text file, and even updated Adobe Reader from the tray. I also opened Task Manager from right-click on the bottom bar. Trying to end a process, create a text file, or open Explorer, Firefox, or any other program I've tried causes a freeze up. Safe Mode seems to work fine.
Win 7 64 bit (I believe SP1) i7 950 6 GB RAM ATI HD5850 60 GB Agility2 SSD (hosts Windows) and 500 GB Hitachi HDD
every SINGLE TIME i try to move a folder around, i get "this action can not be done because the file is open in another program".i've shut down EVERY PROGRAM AND SERVICE except explorer and STILL get the same thing!this is my biggest beef with Win7 and would do anything to get around it.
I have a Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 operating system. It has a windows "Action Center". I do use the Defender and McAfee.
I was infected a couple of days ago by the Win 7 Security virus. I installed (from a clean computer) and ran the Malwarebytes and Superantispyware over and over again until it was clean.
I noticed my "action Center" seems to not be working. Can't even run the Defender, I get an error message of 0x80070424. I used to get the Windows updates automatically, and that appears to have stopped (although I can manually click "windows update" and get them that way. Oh, and the little white flag that would be in the lower right hand corner is missing (telling me of any problems or messages).
I checked my bitlocker in the services.msc and found it is checked to manual. Is that correct? What can I do to get this back working? Or am I still infected?
I use an Acer netbook win 7,with an external mouse. It's a small screen - 10.1 in.- and I have found recently (but not initially) that small windows opened for dialog or a new window selected from the task bar close again before I can even get the mouse pointer inside it to work. is there a way of making the window selection "stick" until a new selection is made ?
the flag disappears particularly if explorer restarts .i have it set to show icons and notifications ,the funny thing is it does the same on the laptop(currently using desktop)occasionally i can get it back by opening Godmode folder but this is a nuisance and not always successful. on the laptop last night i performed a system restore to a point when it was ok ,it didnt work also ran sfc/scannow ,the flag came back but on reboot it was gone again.
I am puzzled by a recent development that keeps making the Action Centre icon come and go in the Notification area. I have set it to be continually present and seen in this area but it goes "walkabout" from time to time.
i have windows seven 32 without service pack. All work and one day.. when i try to install sp1...When i click on user account, create account, nothing appears. I have the same problem when i want to change display parameter on pannel configuration.I have aloso class not register when i try to save in word 2010.
Action Center alerts says that Norton reports that it is turned off and a second one that Windows and Nort6on firewalls are turned off. When I check they are actually on! There is no date information when these alerts were generated and I can't find anywhere to reset the alert or acknowledge it so I don't have the little red X on the flag saying i should check it. I don't want to turn off the alert for these alerts. Of course there is a fundamental question of why the alert is there but until I can determine iof it is a current alert or not I don't know where to start, If I do turn off those alerts then turn them back on, they are still there! Where to reset the alert?
Is it possible to set the print screen button to run an application/command rather than its current action of capturing desktop and putting the image data in the clipboard?
I want to buy Windows 7 home premium 64-bit, but I've become kind of bgged down with talk of upgrades, retail and OEM's.I was wondering if anyone would help me find the best type to use.I'd like to use it mostly for general browsing and gaming.I have a budget of about 80 and I don't intend on upgrading my Hardware (Other than maybe the graphics card and cooling system after a while).Does anyone have any good advice for me or is anybody able to tell me which version would be better, if Windows 7 is better at all.I'm almost a complete novice at this sort of thing, I've always purchased my computers with a ready-installed OS.
During my bluetooth nightmare i have had 4 messages pop up telling me something isnt working right. these bloody messages are stuck on my screen and i cant get rid of them. Its the white box with the open action center link at the bottom.
Of course a re boot works but thats just stupid, i should be able to dismiss the pop ups. As it is windows cant fix it so its cath 22.
Anyone know what the process is i can kill? End task doesn't work.
I have avast installed on here, but the AC has "solve 1 important message". The AV. Now granted all the talk about how soon ppl think 7 will get out, no way jose is what i say, if they cant even fix small problems with the OS as to recognize it has an AV installed on it. MS has more work ahead of them
anyone else running avast or other AV run into this message?
Also too mention, i find it funny about the (only) 4 particular AV MS advertises for, especially when i've seen and heard problems with Norton and avg
Pls dont give an answer to this thread of how to turn off msg, i know.
I have a HP Laptop high end pavilion and it does the blue screen crash at various times and I cant track down why ie: disc installed, usb ports used etc..The blue screen says its a hardware issue and I have not changed any hardware, its still under warranty. I just have the current updates. When it reboots is says it will look for a reason why it crashed but then nothing..
I recently bought a dell N5030 that has windows 7 installed. The problem I am haveing is that when I go to download I get a error msg that says "error 2738. could not access VBScript runtime for custom action" I have not a clue what this means ? I had downloaded things before with no problem and dont know what or why this is coming up.
I'm running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop bought last year. My windows explorer is currently stuck in a permanent state of crashing every 3 seconds. I've tried restarting, shutting down, running virus checks and removing all suspicious adware, removing cookies, and calling tech support. They said it was a problem with a corrupted something to do with the explorer file. It started by crashing once or twice whenever I viewed a particular folder on my desktop (all it had was some video files), and now it crashes when I'm not doing anything. Immediately crashes after reset. I'm operating in safe mode now and the tech guy said the problem is fixable from my end, but wouldn't tell me how to do it unless I gave him $160. And I don't have a credit card
If this helps, the tech guy was remotely controlling my computer and he's left open Services where he was looking at Computer Browser and he said he could fix it in one or two steps from there. The problem with the browser crash was cited as
"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start."
HUsually the first option at the top of the right-click menu is 'Open' but for some reason mine has 'cmd' at the top instead.Whenever I try to open file folders with just a click, the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
I was cleaning up my laptop when I ran into this weird issue. I can't delete the folder no mather what I try. Even when I login as the administrator I can't delete. I tried taking ownership of the folder but it don't work. The folder is nothing special. It is one I have created and there used to be an mp3 inside. However, I can't even open the folder...
Here is my system information:
Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600 X86-based PC Notebook: Acer Aspire 7530system.txt
I have Oblivion installed, and occasionally the game will crash, as most modern, complex RPGs will do. However, Win7's Action Center pops up and tells me:A newer version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is available for download that might solve this problem. Bethesda Softworks LLC. recommends updating to the latest version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion to take advantage of security and stability improvements.First, the link provided is a dead-end. Second, the game is already updated to the very last iteration provided by Bethesda - 1.2.0416. I also have the UOP and related DLC-patches installed, which might be why Win7 seems.
I had a malware that I got rid of, but it deleted many parts of the registry.I was able to find the missing parts and recover them. Only thing still not working is the action center icon in the taskbar. In the system icon activation screen, the action center activate/deactivate option is greyed out. I checked with gpedit.msc, but nothing is set there. I also tried sfc/scannow but it does not recreate missing registry parts.
