View 2 RepliesIt seems that scheduled tasks are only visible by their author or by administrators. We would like to create a task that is visible and usable by any user on the computer. In Windows XP, there was an NTFS tab on a task's properties window, but it's missing in Windows 7. It might be a matter of setting the permissions correctly on the folder that contains the actual task files, but contrary to what I assumed, this folder doesn't seem to be C:WindowsTasks. I don't see the task I imported in this folder, and setting correct permissions on it still doesn't make my task visible to simple users.

I'm trying to uninstall all Office software, but Office Click-to-Run 2010 won't uninstall. When I try to uninstall it from the Programs and Features screen, I get an error message that reads, "The action could not be completed. Try the action again. If the action continues, contact Microsoft Product Support."I have tried the Microsoft Fix it for Me wizard (How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?) to no avail, and I've tried Revo Uninstaller, which removes Office Click-to-Run from the Add or Remove Programs screen but does not uninstall it cleanly. There are two other Office 2010 entries in the Programs and Features list: Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English and Microsoft Office 2010. These uninstall without any issue, but Office Click-to-Run 2010 won't budge.

Tonight I decided that I wanted to delete the scheduled shutdown, but I can't figure out how to do it. I've followed the directions under Delete a Task, which instruct me to to click Delete in the Actions pane. The problem is that I don't see a Delete option in the Actions pane.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to schedule an automatic logon for a certain time of day in Windows 7? I would like to schedule my computer to start up, login, run backup, and shutdown in the middle of the night once a month. So far, I know how to schedule a power-on using the BIOS, but I don't think backup will run if you're not logged in. I don't want to bypass the password protection all together....just when I want an automatic backup.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a sched task that I authored using my user account that I know from running manually works. The problem I'm having is that at some point Windows 7 is deleting and recreating this task, and doing it incorrectly. Consequently the task won't run at its scheduled time. The most important change it is making is that it's setting Run As user to SYSTEM instead of my user account. I know this won't work this way from manual runs.Looking at the task history I can see what Windows 7 is doing, I just don't know why, or how to stop it. Every time I create this task Windows will eventually go through this sequence of events, resulting in a task that is different than the one I created:
1. Task registration deleted
2. Task registered
3. Task registration updated
I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional, with service pack 1 installed. This worked at one time, before I upgraded to Professional and added service pack 1 (or at least I set up the backup one time). I tried to change the time to run the automatic backup in "Control Panel - System and Security - Backup and Restore". The link inside the window named "change settings" didn't do anything. So I turned off the schedule thinking that might let me change the settings. Now neither the "change settings" nor the "turn on schedule" links do anything. Now I have to do the backups manually. I am a firm believer in backing things up to a network drive every night.I run 4 different automatic malware / spyware scans every night and I am usually clean except for a couple of tracking cookies.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis query is concerning how Win 7 Ultimate Scheduled Backup works. These are my needs.Often in the past, Windows 7 has become unstable in some way, such that different pgms including Windows Explorer, and other system tools become corrupt. I decide to re-install Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.I have an external 500Gb drive with an Acronis True Image Home 2009 full partition backup on it. The backup is a fully updated, fully game installed backup, and is way faster to use compared to the individual software installations. Since Windows 7 starts acting up about every 3-6 months for me, I replace it.Recently (last restore) I decided to let win Backup and Restore do a scheduled backup every 7 days. I let Win choose what to backup. I intend to let Win be THE backup to use to replace the OS when needed. I have always had problems running out of space where to let Win Backup to on some drives, so I dedicated a 443Gb partition to Backup only. This is on the other half of a 1Tb drive. (I know in some cases it is not wise to use the same drive, but I put all the important things on another physical drive) I have 4 drives, totaling about 3.8Tb. 2 have XP Pro, and 2 have Windows 7 Ultimate. The main C: is 487Gb, with 231Gb used space. The other half of it is N: 443Gb; on which the Backup is written to each week. The size of the backup is now 407.12Gb. The backup on N: is approaching TWICE the size of the used space on the C: drive! And within about a month there will be no more room.I want mainly to retain a pristine Operating System to reload, along with the basic games which are huge. This will save the time WHEN, not IF Windows 7 begins to fail again. (not saying it is a bad or weak OS, just that it fails for me for reasons needing replacement. If only it were as robust as XP has been in the past.)
1. How can I retain a PERFECT OS and games image to use as a basic unchanged original with Win Backup?
2. As Win gets corrupted, how can I know that the latest Backup I might want to restore from isn't corrupt?
3. Can Backup be set to not make redundant Backups that become so huge, yet maintain the original perfect OS and game set, such as a dated incremental backup that can be used to piece together a C: drive again?
4. How do I know that Backup isn't backing-up malware?
5. If I save the latest backup, and the first one, how big should each one actually be?
6. Can I get into the actual backup files individually to decide if I want to restore from them--the options are limited.
7. Win says that it will work "without taking up more than 30 percent of space on the backup disk". Out of a 443Gb drive letter, there is only 33Gb of space left. All done automatically.
8. Is the fact that there is a total of 4 OS's on this computer making the Backups so large? I would assume it is only doing the C: drive, as I would wish, yet something is getting copied over and over, likely. Again, possibility of the latest backup being corrupted is on my mind.
Short of cloning a new disk to replace the later corrupt one, updating it just prior to copying it over, the only other thing I can see doing is to only run the OS on the C: drive, making it easier to replace, yet that has many inherent problems with pgms not working after the OS is replaced, and needing to reinstall anyway.Sorry about the length of this inquiry, but you can see I need assistance.

This (widely acclaimed) Windows Registry backup utility restores the security feature Microsoft discontinued with Windows 98SE and Windows ME: the ability to retain full daily automatic backups of a user-determined number of registries, as the first (and it should not be the only) line of defense in recovering a 'hosed' system, from registry corruption.Starting with Windows Vista, there has been a compatiblity problem, as noted by Lars Hederer, the utility's author:Quote:Question: Do ERUNT and NTREGOPT run on Windows 7? Answer: ERUNT and NTREGOPT in their current versions 1.1j are still compatible with Windows 7, but as in Vista, they will only work correctly if you turn off User Account Control in Windows' Control Panel (move the slider to the lowest position). ... Future versions of ERUNT and NTREGOPT will of course have these issues fixed. Keep an eye on my homepage for updates. Unfortunately, there have been no "future versions", so users have devised work-arounds, the best known being creating a scheduled-shortcut to the .exe that runs the daily backup, to prevent it from 'hanging' and failing, when Windows' silent prompt (are you sure you really want to run this .exe file, that you just clicked on?) gets no human response. Many users are reluctant to take the author's advice, to just shut off UAC, although this does fix it.
I (hope!) I have found a simpler solution, suitable even for the non-hacker.Install and run this small (85KB) utility, to put UAC in the 'Quiet Mode' -- as shown in the illustration. You should have a Windows Shortcut for eruNT's autoback.exe in the StartUp directory. First, set MS Windows' UAC slider wherever you wish. Then turn on 'Quiet Mode' in the linked utility. Then exit, and don't look again at the UAC slider, as a Windows-bug makes it show an erroneous indication (carefully read the utility's documentation on this point).Just make sure that the shortcut to autoback.exe is set to run its target in Administrative mode, and then set the Target-line as:[CODE]
I have a Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 operating system. It has a windows "Action Center". I do use the Defender and McAfee.
I was infected a couple of days ago by the Win 7 Security virus. I installed (from a clean computer) and ran the Malwarebytes and Superantispyware over and over again until it was clean.
I noticed my "action Center" seems to not be working. Can't even run the Defender, I get an error message of 0x80070424. I used to get the Windows updates automatically, and that appears to have stopped (although I can manually click "windows update" and get them that way. Oh, and the little white flag that would be in the lower right hand corner is missing (telling me of any problems or messages).
I checked my bitlocker in the services.msc and found it is checked to manual. Is that correct? What can I do to get this back working? Or am I still infected?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop bought last year. My windows explorer is currently stuck in a permanent state of crashing every 3 seconds. I've tried restarting, shutting down, running virus checks and removing all suspicious adware, removing cookies, and calling tech support. They said it was a problem with a corrupted something to do with the explorer file. It started by crashing once or twice whenever I viewed a particular folder on my desktop (all it had was some video files), and now it crashes when I'm not doing anything. Immediately crashes after reset. I'm operating in safe mode now and the tech guy said the problem is fixable from my end, but wouldn't tell me how to do it unless I gave him $160. And I don't have a credit card
If this helps, the tech guy was remotely controlling my computer and he's left open Services where he was looking at Computer Browser and he said he could fix it in one or two steps from there. The problem with the browser crash was cited as
"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start."
I just got a new PC yesterday with Win7. The Windows Action Center keeps popping up with a warning asking that I "Choose a Windows Update option." I select "Install Updates automatically," but the Windows Action Center does not remember my selection and then about an hour later will pop back up with the same warning.

The reason for this was that when I started the computer it booted up fine until I had to type my password to enter windows; after that windows did not load. The system was restored to an earlier date and my question is: do I need to do anything else beyond the system restore to ensure the computer is working correctly? I have little idea about computers so I don't know whether the problem is still on the system or if the restore will have resolved the issue permanently.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI put together a scheduled task (in Windows 7) that automatically shuts the computer off when the kids have been playing for an hour. However, here's the problem - they cancel the shutdown, even after I force it to launch if it didn't 'run', and continue playing.
I have since put together a "force log-off" task. Now for the question:
Is there a script I can run in cmd.exe or user logoff option that starts some sort of timer that will disable log on? It would be even better if I could have help writing something that would require a password for the account after an hour, so I can give them permission for additional time, or when switching between kids.
I was wondering about the differences between Services and Tasks. From what I have heard, read about services in windows 7 it seems that they run in an isolates session (I think session 0) which does not allow them to perform certain tasks. For one application I know that they cannot access a GPU for instance...or thats what it seems. Are scheduled tasks the same in that even though you can run them under a user they run in this constricted environment? What is the difference between them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn the backup and restore management screen, it says backup cancelled. I had setup on a regular weekly schedule. Go to manage backups, I see backups through out 2011. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says Neveryet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. SoI clicked on Backup nowand it runs to completion successfully. The last back field was updated with todays date/time.
