I use an Acer netbook win 7,with an external mouse. It's a small screen - 10.1 in.- and I have found recently (but not initially) that small windows opened for dialog or a new window selected from the task bar close again before I can even get the mouse pointer inside it to work. is there a way of making the window selection "stick" until a new selection is made ?

slowing down mouse double click in the control panel helps somewhat but how can i get a solid reliable indicator that the double click was heard by windows.
am i the only one who is being driver insane by this common deficiency?

After doing a clean install but saving files in 'Windows.old' Wingdings 2 & Wingdings 3 fonts have disappeared. They aren't in the the fonts folder and I need them. PC started acting inappropriately during searches. Press Window Key, press W key to get Wordpad and it would show things like Calculator, VLC Player or Irfanview. Or press Window Key, press I for Internet Explorer and it shows Notepad, Paint or Word.
When I depress my mouse wheel in Thunderbird, and MS Excel a small circle with arrows appears and than just moving the mouse causes the screen to scroll. I find that irritating and would like to know how to disable that feature.

Sometimes I think I must have an alter ego who is intent on screwing up my life because I get on my computer and suddenly its doing weird stuff I never wanted it to do.Here lately, a lot of times when I just want to scroll down the page, it ends up zooming into letters so small I can't read, or conversely too large.How is this happening and how can I stop it other than handcuff myself if I'm doing it in my sleep and sabotaging myself.

Every time turn on the computer it work correctly for 2 or 3 minutes. After that it stop responding. First I thought it have problem with OS. Then I installed windows. But now also it happen as before.When it happen I change the port that mouse and keyboard are connected. Then it again work for 2 or 3 minutes and stop working. I check whether the port I used before can used for other devices so I insert USB flash drive.

This mostly happens on start up and once desktop loads up either my USB mouse freezes or my keyboard doesn't work or sometimes BOTH. My keyboard is a PS/2 Keyboard. It seems the only solution when both freeze at the same time is to either restart the computer or unplug them and plug them back in. This morning when I booted it up my mouse immediately was frozen and I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it is working. This error is very random and sometimes doesn't happen immediately on start up but while browsing the Internet a decent amount of time after start up. Another important thing I forgot to mention is I get NO blue screen or no error message it just stops working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I have been having this problem where my PS/2 keyboard and mouse both stop responding. The lights are still on, but neither work. Sometimes it happens just to my mouse, and not the keyboard, but usually both. When it happens, they are not responding for anywhere from a few seconds, to a few minutes (but by that point I restart the computer). If it happens just to the mouse, putting the computer to sleep using the keyboard and wakening it again fixes the problem.
I have tried to update the drivers in device manager by letting windows search for them online, but it says they are up-to-date. I also checked all the connections inside the computer, unplugging and re-plugging each one as well as air-dusting.
EDIT: If I can't find a fix, I think I will just purchase a USB mouse and keyboard, but I'd rather try fix the problem first.
As of lately my mouse and keyboard sometimes just stop working. It seems to happen more often while I'm playing games (but that's mostly what I do so not sure if that has anything to do with it ). Usually before it happens I'll hear the usb sound and the mouse will disconnect and reconnect and it'll work fine then just out of the blue it'll disconnect and that's that. I have to shutdown and restart. It only just started doing this a couple weeks ago. My mouse is a logitech UAE-96 (I think) and the keyboard is a microsoft ergonomic 4000, its an ASUS MoBo, I've checked keyboard drivers and they are up to date and I've also checked my usb drivers, also up to date.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just bought a new mouse and i wanted to install it. i couldnt remember which usb cable was my mouse and which was my keyboard so i unplugged one, wiggled the mouse, unplugged the other, the mousewasnt moving so i plugged it into that one. After that i noticed the new mouse worked but the keyboard stopped working. I restarted the computer and the problem im having now is that the keyboard works in BIOS etc but once windows 7 loads to the login, it stops working as does the mouse

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a SSD, installed it, installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Got into windows and everything was fantastic. Installed all the windows updates, video card drivers, ect... Then rebooted the computer and lo and behold, it doesn't recognize the SSD as a valid boot device anymore. Assuming that the install corrupted somehow, I decided to run startup repair on the Windows 7 disk. However once the disk gets past "Windows is loading files" all the lights on my mouse and keyboard shut off and they stop working. However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is... I literally JUST used this same disk to install windows 7 and had no issues less than 30 minutes ago... The only advice I've been able to find thus far has been to ensure that legacy USB settings are enabled, and they are. Also, if I boot into windows on a different drive that has the OS installed my mouse and keyboard work just fine in windows as well. As it stands now I cannot fix my windows install or even reinstall windows...However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is..

View 8 Replies View RelatedI play a game called starcraft 2, when playing this game you drag the mouse off the right side of the screen in order to move right. I just setup an extended desktop with one screen to the right of the primary.When playing this game and trying to move right the mouse just moves onto the extended screen. Is there a way to stop this happening so when I am running the game to lock the mouse into it so that it wont move across to the other screen (so I'd have to alt + tab the game to do so).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 laptop (Thinkpad T420s), Many times I have tried setting the "Power buttons and lid -> Lid close action" to Hibernate on "On Battery" and "Plugged in" but when I click ok and immediately open the same settings via "Change advanced power settings" I see that my changes are not saved and the settings shows default value "Do nothing".I even tried changing the "Power plan" to Balanced, "Maximum battery life" etc but nowhere I could get this option work.I tried "powercfg /hibernate on" and then doing the above things but that too did not I tried other option also ("Sleep") , but they too did not work and the settings revert to default "Do nothing" everytime.Modifying "Change what closing the lid does" also does not work.Could somebody give me some clue about how do I set it up to Hibernate on "lid close". Right now I have created a shortcut for hibernate and double click on it before closing the lid.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows is currently freezing up after startup. This started after receiving a blue screen during one startup. On the next startup, there was a small dialogue box; I opted not to restore the computer to a previous state.
Now, Windows loads normally, but generally the first action taken freezes the computer (mouse will move, but that's it). I have managed open a text file, and even updated Adobe Reader from the tray. I also opened Task Manager from right-click on the bottom bar. Trying to end a process, create a text file, or open Explorer, Firefox, or any other program I've tried causes a freeze up. Safe Mode seems to work fine.

every SINGLE TIME i try to move a folder around, i get "this action can not be done because the file is open in another program".i've shut down EVERY PROGRAM AND SERVICE except explorer and STILL get the same thing!this is my biggest beef with Win7 and would do anything to get around it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 operating system. It has a windows "Action Center". I do use the Defender and McAfee.
I was infected a couple of days ago by the Win 7 Security virus. I installed (from a clean computer) and ran the Malwarebytes and Superantispyware over and over again until it was clean.
I noticed my "action Center" seems to not be working. Can't even run the Defender, I get an error message of 0x80070424. I used to get the Windows updates automatically, and that appears to have stopped (although I can manually click "windows update" and get them that way. Oh, and the little white flag that would be in the lower right hand corner is missing (telling me of any problems or messages).
I checked my bitlocker in the services.msc and found it is checked to manual. Is that correct? What can I do to get this back working? Or am I still infected?

View 9 Replies View Relatedthe flag disappears particularly if explorer restarts .i have it set to show icons and notifications ,the funny thing is it does the same on the laptop(currently using desktop)occasionally i can get it back by opening Godmode folder but this is a nuisance and not always successful. on the laptop last night i performed a system restore to a point when it was ok ,it didnt work also ran sfc/scannow ,the flag came back but on reboot it was gone again.
