I am not playing a game my computer runs fine for hours this Critical Error only occurs when I'm running a game usually after few minutes. Most solutions suggested reinstalling audio driver/making sure there is only one. Well I only have one, it's up to date with one audio device running and was reinstalled a couple of days ago. I'm not yet sure if it occurs in every game which I am checking now so far I've experienced shutdown while playing Just Cause 2 and Metro 2033. Critical error is always the same and always a shutdown even though Restart On System Failure is unchecked. [code]
Also attached is my dxdiag.I've ran RAM diagnostic and it found no faults after 13~ thorough checks. I will try reinstalling audio driver again as well as check whether all of my games trigger this error. I did run the System file checker from CMD cannot quite remember the command now and it showed returned no faults. So far only Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 have caused this error.Just noticed I have missed a latest video card driver. Will attempt to try again after updating that.

my laptop has recently started booting up and shuting down pretty slow, it takes about 3 mins to start up, and shutdown, but when it boots up, it runs perfectly. It yous to only take a few seconds. i'm not very knowledgeable about computer details, so if you need them, where do i find them? I do know i'm running Windows 7 and have Intel core i3. I run mcafee virus scan everyday, defrag and clean my disk everyday.

I have sony VPCF1 laptop, which worked fine until a month ago. Windows 7 home premium 64bits. All of a sudden I started getting random shutdowns whenever I'm playing games. (namely Diablo3 and league of legends)I used to play Skyrim on this laptop without any shutdown issues. I suspected overheating problem, but the speedfan log just before the shutdown shows GPU at 80 C and CPU at around 75.I cleaned out the heat sink and re-applied thermal paste anyways. However, I clean the dust in heat sink every 3 months so there wasn't much to begin with. I also bought a cooling pad, which doesn't seem to lower the temperature at all. I checked the hardwares using vaio care none of them showed known issues.

I seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

My Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]

I have an HP Laptop model 6735b with an AMD Turion DualCore ZM-84 Mobile processor and 2GB of RAM. I purchased it in January 2009 and installed windows XP on it, which I had no problems with. I recently installed Windows 7 on it, and it will not power down or go into hibernate mode without being on external power. When I tell it to hibernate or shut down it will power the screen down, but thats as far as it will go without being plugged in. All of the lights stay on (volume control buttons, wifi indicator, etc.), the hard drive continues to run, and it will stay like this until I plug it in, at which point it will finish its power-down or hibernation.

This problem started a few days ago. Whenever I close my laptop, the computer shuts down. I've done the obvious and checked the settings for sleep, hibernate and shutdown on lid close, but those are all set to sleep, not shutdown. As you might imagine, this issue is a real hassle. I've been losing work and spending far too long on start up time with this.
The laptop itself is an hp pavilion dv4, if that might have anything to do with it.

I was installing SP1 on a recently purchased laptop (Acer Aspire 5742) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Installation was done via Windows Update and was reported successful. On subsequent required reboot, however, the system just hang, at shutdown screen. Some half a day has passed already and I wonder what now, whether I should go for a hard reset and force turning it off, and what would be the proper way to do that, in hope to cause the least damage, both to Windows and the SP install and even the hardware eventually?... I've tried already hitting the power button, even for some more than a couple seconds, but it didn't go off and I admit I became afraid of persisting on that... I've also already read about having to hold the power button for actually some 60 seconds..

For the past few days Windows refuses to shutdown. Everytime I select the sleep, hibernate or shutdown options it will reboot/reawaken straight away. I have tested the RAM which had no problems, I reinstalled Windows completely which didn't help & I checked power settings in BIOS to disable auto-restart. Laptop works fine when on, just refuses to power down - only holding the power button will get it to stop doing anything!

I just bought an ASUS Zenbook UX32A, it has an SSD 32 and SATA 500, I deleted the recovery and did a clean install of Windows 7 on the SSD (originally win was on the SATA) and I uploaded all the drivers and did some windows updates. the laptop will randomly shutdown once a week or every two weeks, and the boot order will get switched to the SATA. Obviously i will get an error "windows cant boot" etc. I have to manually go in bios and switch it back to the SSD.I scanned the computer with Avast and did the boot scanner, 100% clean

New laptop, it was shut down or closed during the update and now is frozen on the 7 of 8 screen and just hangs there. I cannot reboot and it did not come with a recovery disk. I can't get it to come off this screen at all. I tried shutting it off but an orange light flashes and when I turn it back on it's still on that screen. Since I have no recovery cd or repair CD what do I need to do? If I have to restore I really could care less as I don't have too much on it because it's new. Maybe some photos but whatever.

Starting about a week ago, my lenova v570 laptop started acting weird.
When i shut down the computer the screen turns off, but the lights and fans are still running, i have left it for several minutes and nothing happens. i end up holding the power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off. And when i do turn the computer back on a notepad opens up named "debug" containing a very long message starting with "[1204/172346:ERROR:backend_impl.cc(2086)] Corrupt Index file[1204/172346:ERROR:cache_util_win.cc(43)]"
This has been happening for the past several days now and i have come to worry a lot about the situation. I am not much of a computer..

I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)

It turned on like it usually does with the ACER logo on the screen, but it goes to a black screen came that said:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
Followed by some more text, and then it asks how I would like to start windows up, in safe mode(s), last known good configuration, or start windows normally.
So I just select Start Windows Normally and it started to boot up, with the Microsoft Windows 7 loading screen. Then KABLAM! The black screen with the different options popped up AGAIN. I then tried every single other boot option, all the safe modes, everything, and every time it would show that black screen with the different boot options(that don't work). So I hit F8 and tried all the options in there, reboot, debugging mode, all of them, they all did the same thing and brought back to that dreaded black screen. I tried everything...except for the obvious destructive restart.I know I will probably have to do a complete restart of my computer, but before I do that, how can I backup data from a non-functioning laptop? Right before this happened, I was going to backup my data, but this happened. I know I need to do a backup all the time, but I was being dumb. I deserve this.
