Laptop Will Randomly Shutdown Once A Week Or Every Two Weeks
Nov 3, 2012
I just bought an ASUS Zenbook UX32A, it has an SSD 32 and SATA 500, I deleted the recovery and did a clean install of Windows 7 on the SSD (originally win was on the SATA) and I uploaded all the drivers and did some windows updates. the laptop will randomly shutdown once a week or every two weeks, and the boot order will get switched to the SATA. Obviously i will get an error "windows cant boot" etc. I have to manually go in bios and switch it back to the SSD.I scanned the computer with Avast and did the boot scanner, 100% clean

so my girlfriends laptop yesterday had a windows update. after it reboted, it would come to the windows boot manager screen saying 0xc00000e9, a unexpected i/o error. apperantly she dropped it a few weeks ago. but i wasnt sure that had anything to do with it. so i went and checked and removed and rehooked up all the drives and hdd. and i noticed one of the ram chips wasnt locked in anymore. so i relocked that too. and to no avail. i cant get into safe mode, or anything else. i made a recovery disk with my laptop, running 7 ultimate 64 bit. i get it to load up to the point where it says chose your country ( for the keyboard i guess) and it just sits there with a mouse pointer on the screen and nothing else. for about 20 mins i let it sit and nothing happened. i rean a seagate hdd diag tool. and that wouldnt run past 2% without errors. so i am not sure at all what to do. or what real damage is done to the HDD, and since i cant get into checkdisk i cant find out either.

So, about 2 weeks ago I got an email from my ISP that said they were switching from CA internet security to McAfee. I removed CA and installed McAfee. Two days later, my PC restarted while I was watching a movie. No BSOD, no warning, just a restart. When it comes back up I get the "Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. It has done it randomly ever since. I can be surfing the web or playing a game or watching a movie. It doesnt happen during any specific activity. I can have several things running or just one thing.I dont get it.So, since I despise McAfee anyway, I uninstalled it and got AVG for now. But, about 20 minutes after I did that, it restarted again. I dont get it. I read the post instructions and did what it said to do, hopefully correctly. So, hopefully someone can tell me what the deal is and how to fix it. Ive never had any issues out of this PC that I didnt cause and fix right away until I switched antivirus programs. [code]

My system seems to randomly freeze once every couple of weeks, but has done so twice today and cost me some work so I thought I'd try and resolve it.The freeze occurs with the open browser becoming unresponsive to mouse or keyboard. I can still activate already open browsers from the hot bar but they're also unresponsive. Mouse still moves and if I have an application open already (today it was the calculator) that will be responsive to both mouse and keyboard, I was able to do sums still. That then becomes unresponsive after a minute or so. Hot keys don't work, like alt-tab or ctrl-alt-delete. Windows start button still opens up to menu, but applications won't open from there. All are unresponsive.Hard reset and Windows boots with no problems, everything working again. [code]

My friend recently (in the past month) bought a refurbished Dell computer from Wal-Mart. Everything seems to work fine. The problem she is having with it is that when she does 'shut-down' for the night it randomly restarts. No set amount of time just it restarts. They keep the PC in the bedroom so it wakes them up. We have added nothing which would cause this problem. I went to 'automatic restart after crash' and unchecked it as suggested and that did not work.

I have an hp latop that I have had for almost 2 years next month. Today I put the computer in sleep mode and then I turned it back on no later than 5 minutes from putting it to sleep mode and suddenly I get this random arrow message saying that my computer has ran into a critical problem and that it will shut down in 1 minute and I need to save my work what would cause this type of behavior.

I built a Win 7 PC for recording MIDI and everything was going fine until recently the main application that I use has been crashing.I've talked to the manufacturers and they can't figure it out,but I have a feeling it's from some updates I did on Oct 20th 2012. I looked in my restore points and can't find anything earlier than a couple of weeks ago even when I check "show more".

I've had this problem for years, since first upgrading to Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7.
After 2-3 weeks, Internet Explorer starts randomly choosing to disclude sites from its history, before reaching a point where it simply stops recording history. Yes, I HAVE all the settings properly adjusted so that it does not delete history upon exit, has an entire gigabyte of disk space reserved just for history, 400 days set to keep history, and it still ends up being a bi-monthly thing of me having to delete the history.
I've gone through countless sites and forums looking for answers, History function not working in Internet Explorer 8 - Microsoft Answers Why has history not been working in IE 9 for the last few days? - Microsoft Answers IE 9 is not saving my browsing history. - Microsoft Answers
NOTHING works for me, not deleting index.dat and such.

I have had 5 BSODs in the past week, 2 today in fact. Most of the time the computer is idle when it BSODs, sometimes I will just boot it, log in, and then after 10 min. or so it will BSOD, so I don't know of any reliable trigger.I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit on my Dell Dimension 1525 that I purchased in August 2008. It came with Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I installed this Windows 7 64 in May 2010 I believe.

I'm going to be out of town and using a remote control access program to use my computer. I'm wondering if there's a way to set my computer's power settings to turn on automatically every now and then since I won't have direct access to the physical computer to turn it back on, in case it crashes, or the power goes out. I only see settings to auto-shutdown or sleep the computer at certain times, no turn on options.

My Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]

Users running Internet Explorer 9 or IE8 on top of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will receive a Critical security bulletin next week. The security update is part of Microsoft's normal, monthly patch release process, and will be accompanied by a range of additional security bulletins.
The software giant plans to plug security holes in a number of its technologies, including the latest releases of its IE browser and Windows OS," revealed Angela Gunn Senior Response Communications Manager, Trustworthy Computing Microsoft."Today we're releasing our advance notification for the August security bulletin release, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9. This month's release includes 13 bulletins addressing 22 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, .NET and Visual Studio. All 13 bulletins will be released on Tuesday, August 9 at approximately 10 a.m. PDT," Gunn stated.
Only a couple of the 13 August 2011 security bulletins sport a severity rating of Critical, the Redmond company revealed, one impacting Internet Explorer, and the other Windows. The Critical IE patches will be delivered to all supported versions of the browser, including IE8 and IE9 running on Windows 7 SP1, as I have already said. The remaining Critical security bulletin will only impact customers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the Redmond company noted.

I was just wondering whether or not it's unusual to have to run Chkdsk every three days or so, seeing as though my computer becomes very slow and unresponsive after a few days after running Chkdsk. After I run Chkdsk the computer is fine for a few days, but like I said, it becomes slow and unresponsive soon after. Each time I run it, new bad clusters are found.

Firefox 5.0b7.setup.
Firefox-7.0a2.enus.win32,installer.exe.
And in uninstall or change a program;
Mozilla Firefox 6.0(x86 en-us),
Do I need to reinstall it?

i was shuting down my pc last week after using it all day with no problems when a blue screen appeared and the machine rebooted.I shut it down properly and it was fine the next few days . then i the same thing happened twice in a week.only on shutdown.the most recent program i installed a few weeks ago was Protools8.[code] This indicates that a system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.

I've been using my new notebook since last week. The allotted space for the Recovery drive D is 13G. After a week, I suddenly noticed that it is now almost full, with only 1.46G free. When I open the drive, I only see recovery folder (16KB) and HPSF_rep text document (4KB). When I viewed protected program files in that drive, I saw a lot of files which I did not dare to modify or anything. What should I do? What will happen if D: becomes full?

I have a number of shortcuts to often used folders and drives on the work LAN set up on my desktop. Infuriatingly, these regularly disappear (I have not timed it accurately, but it seems to be after approx. 1 week)! I keep copies in another directory, so can replace them fairly easily, but it's really frustrating that nobody seems to be able to explain what is going on

I have an HP Laptop model 6735b with an AMD Turion DualCore ZM-84 Mobile processor and 2GB of RAM. I purchased it in January 2009 and installed windows XP on it, which I had no problems with. I recently installed Windows 7 on it, and it will not power down or go into hibernate mode without being on external power. When I tell it to hibernate or shut down it will power the screen down, but thats as far as it will go without being plugged in. All of the lights stay on (volume control buttons, wifi indicator, etc.), the hard drive continues to run, and it will stay like this until I plug it in, at which point it will finish its power-down or hibernation.
