Sudden System Crashes And Slowdown?

Jul 17, 2012

I have a HP G series notebook and as of last Thursday I started getting insane amounts of slowdown. Even in the lock screen where I type my password in has lag. After a day of this I shut off my computer for several hours and performed a full virus scan with Malware Bytes and nothing was found. Soon after that my Laptop started to crash. I Re-booted several times and the problem persists. Ill log in (slowly) and access any program but within 5-10 minutes the PC will lock up. I truly have zero idea how this happened. I haven't installed, downloaded or added any sort of software program or files recently. I haven't dropped, wet or damage my laptop recently either. The last thing I did before all this happened was I synced my Xbox 360 to my Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player so I could listen to music while I play. After all the craziness started happening I deleted all my music from the media center and turned off the syncing function but the problems escalated from there.

Sudden Slowdown After Installing Desktop Customization Programs For Windows 7

Apr 4, 2011

After installing some desktop customization programs for Windows 7, I noticed that my games run with lower framerates. I also notice that things are loading up a little slower, and when I drag a selection box on my desktop, it's very laggy. I just built this computer about a month ago, and it's meant to be a gaming computer.

My general specs are:
- AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Processor - 3.2 GHz
- 4 GBs of DDR3 RAM & 1600Mhz
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
- My graphics card is a PowerColor AX6850 Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

I uninstalled the two programs (Rainmeter and Fences), restarted my system a couple of times, disabled various startup items and services, uninstalled some unnecessary programs, ran a virus scan with Malware Bytes and Spybot Search & Destroy, ran CCleaner, and I am still facing this slow down. My CPU temperatures are also staying at 20C to 25C, so that shouldn't be the issue. Could windows be running an index or something in the background? Or is there a conflict with the operating system after using these desktop customization tools?

Sound Loss / System Slowdown

Sep 30, 2011

My system has recently developed an annoying problem which is causing me some concern as it could indicate something serious.Quite often when it boots up, there is instead of the properly functioning sound, a continuous high pitched whine. This goes away when I reboot. Sometimes though, this issue arises during games or other general use.If this happens when the system is running, not just the whining sound is there, but also any 3D or video graphics slow down a lot.I have attempted to remedy this by removing and replacing the soundcard and an uninstall/reinstall of the drivers. Unfortunately with no affect as regards removing the problem or it's cause.Outside of these times everything runs as it should and the sound functions perfectly both through the speakers and headphones connected via the front panel box supplied with this XF-fi series card.I am thinking about a full re-intallation of the O.S if nothing else works.

Mouse Casuing Massive System Slowdown?

May 2, 2011

After running tf2 for the first time in a while I discovered that it was running slower than it normally does and noticed it happens only when I move the mouse, without moving the mouse I sit at around 150fps, when I do it goes down to basically 1fps,I tried this on CSS and it happened again, so I tried a Call of Duty Black Ops Multi + Zombie and there was no problems at all, so then I tried on Trackmania Nations Forever and it happens on that game.I have tried un-installing mouse drivers then replugging the mouse, a recent system restore point and had no luck?

Random System Crashes

Sep 19, 2011

I am experiencing some disturbing shut downs on my pc. This has been plaguing me for about 6 months now and I can't take it anymore. Just to be clear, these crashes do not provide a BSOD and therefore no error code for me to research and correct on my own. In the last two days, this has happened 4-5 times, and most often while watching streaming video online (but not always). Without warning, everything will lock up (sometimes this is accompanied by a terrible sound emitted from the speakers - presumably looping audio from the video i was watching). The computer then reboots itself without my involvement.

Continual Disk Activity & Major Slowdown?

Jan 12, 2012

I've had the computer for about a year, a custom build...it's been working fine, then all of a sudden the problem started & now I'm suffering serious lag & slow down even with the most simple tasks (like clicking on the start icon) the HDD light is on continually & I can hear the drive clicking away. It never stops. (Starts when the windows loading screen comes on)Boot time is also incredibly slow around 10 minutes to boot up.I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 pro x 64 and the problem still persists...no other software installed other than my graphics & sound card drivers. The workstation isn't connected to the net I use a laptop for all that/this.On Task Manager my CPU is 0% & my Memory 6% which is fine..The drive is a Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7,200 SATA II.The programs causing this are mostly with-in "System" & SVChost" processes on the HDD.

For example:
Windows service profile
RtBackup
NTFS free space map
NTFS master file table
Winevt logs

I have read many threads about these type of problems but with never any clarification.I've got a ton of work to do...and I cant even open control panel under 1 minute right now.

The computer then reboots itself without my involvement. Before anyone asks, my drivers are UP TO DATE, and my BIOS is up to date as well. So far, I have asked around and most people point to my graphics card overheating, or a very dirty (dusty) pc as a likely cause. Firstly, my computer is generally kept very clean, and I am monitoring my GPU temps and they are usually WELL within normal ranges (frankly it runs very cool). I have called EVGA for support, and they told me they had not heard of this problem before. They had me run a bunch of gpu stress tests, all of which provided no clue (they were clean) as to what could be wrong. Someone else told me to make sure my RAM was properly seated. I did check that and I can't see any seating issues.

Windows Journal Freeze Or Slowdown With 2mb Or Larger Files

Feb 16, 2012

I've been having problems with windows journal when a note file reaches 2mb or more. I use an (older) tablet pc with a core duo CPU running Windows Home Edition and I wonder whether this may be the problem as upgrading my RAM to 4GB didn't help at all. One way around this would be to have smaller files with different chunks of the data (diagrams and hand written notes) but I would have thought a 2mb file wouldn't cause such problems. I've been considering upgrading to a brand new tablet but if the problem is with the software then I don't see much point yet.

This stays on for only a second then the screen goes black. Five seconds later I get "Operating System Not Found". The only way I can use the computer again is to hold the power button down (which gives the computer a full power off), then turn it back on again.

Display Freezes / BSODs And Random System Crashes

Oct 27, 2011

My computer has been crashing a lot lately. Usually, the computer freezes and weird lines appear on the display when it happens. Other times it just shows a BSOD and restarts. It started happening around 2-3 weeks after my motherboard, processor and RAM were changed because a part of the previous motherboard had burnt. The previous motherboard was ASUS M3A78-EM, the onboard graphics was ATI Radeon HD 3200 and RAM was 2 GB DDR2.I took the PC to a my computer vendor after everything I tried had failed. Firstly, he diagnosed it as an issue because of improper earthing/grounding in the switchboard where I plugged the computer and the UPS. I got the earthing issue sorted but to no avail, it still hanged/freezed. The second time I took it to him he said that he might have to update the BIOS and when I brought it back the problem had apparently been fixed but that was only for a few days. After like 4-5 days it started happening again. Same weird lines - green, magenta, purple and all the rest of it - started appearing. The HDD LED stops when this happens. I only observed the LED today, though. Today the computer freezed without those weird lines on two out of the 5 or 6 times it happenrd, it looked like it had just hanged but the HDD LED had gone off.Sometimes the PC doesn't start up at all immediately after it has crashed. That's what led me to guess it's a hardware issue. Also, it happens in safe mode and Windows XP too (I dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7) and I remember it once happening even before the computer had completely booted.Computer details:Windows 7 32-bitASUS M4A78LT-M-LEAMD Athlon II X2 250ATI Radeon 3000 onboard graphics1 x 2 GB DDR3 RAM250 GB SATAMinidumps and NirSoft BlueScreenView HTML report: url..

No Sound & Memory Error Msg. System Restore Crashes?

Jan 24, 2012

I recently ran a program called RegOwnit.exe on my windows registry to take ownership of the registry. But before I did that I made a backup copy of the registry by selecting Export and All from RegEdit.exe and saving a file called backup.reg. Since then I've been having issues such as no sound, I can't open "My Computer", "Control Panel", "My Documents", "Recycle Bin" When I try to I get an error message stating "there is not enough free memory to run this program."So I tried restoring the backup I made of the registry by going to Import and selecting backup.reg from there. But nothing changes in the registry at all. I just get various error messages each time I do that such as. "Cannot import C:UsersOwnerDesktopackup.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes." I've even tried doing it in Safe Mode.So my next guess I thought was to run System Restore but that hangs and never completes. The first time it ran I let it sit for 12 hours before I realized it was never going to finish. I've tried running it several more times since then, even selecting older restore points but it always hangs and I end up sitting here waiting for it to complete but it never does.I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit My computer is a HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC with 4 GB RAM and 76GB free space on Drive C. Intel Core processor. I don't have any usual configuration. It's practically new.I found someone else with the same problem on here, and one thing I was able to fix was by following the directions at the thread at

[url]...

Someone said to make sure All Users has permission to access the registry: Quote: Make sure that System and Users (and just to make sure maybe Administrators and your account name too) have more or less unrestricted access to the registry hive"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" So I added Users to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and now I can open My Computer and Control Panel etc, but I still have no sound. In fact when I try to put on an MP3 I get an error that says "Your soundcard driver does not support this type of sample format."What I'd really like to do is run system restore or be allowed to import my full backup of the registry to the point before all of this happened. What's the point of having a tool for backing up the registry and making restore points if you can't roll back to them?

Windows Explorer Crashes And System Freezing After Video Card Upgrade?

May 24, 2011

I very recently graduated and as a congratulations, my brother-in-law gave me a brand new Nvidia 9800GTX for my computer. I was running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit when I installed it and I immediately saw a drastic increase in performance. However, when I turned my computer off for the night, I noticed that it would hang at the shut down screen and never actually turn off.Refusing to believe that the new card was at fault, and having next to nothing on my C partition after my most recent formatting, I decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows to hopefully fix the issue. This is where my other problems started in. Suddenly Windows Explorer was crashing whenever I tried to use my disk drive and my system would randomly lock up. After assuming my install went wrong, I tried reinstalling twice more and neither worked. Finally, I got fed up and reinstalled my 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional and it still didn't work. As of now I've removed the new card and put my old 9500GT back in to find that I'm not having a single problem with the 9500.

Windows 7 Corrupted System Files / Windows Explorer Crashes

Nov 8, 2012

I (my wife) is running Windows 7 Home Premium (64). Windows explorer crashes when:

-Searching with more than 4 characters in the start menu
-Opening the Network and Sharing Center
-Various other times that seem unrelated

I have attempted:

-Startup repair X3 : it catches problems but doesn't repair them
-sfc /scannow command : also catches problems, and the CDA log shows all of the corrupted files.
-Copying the system32 files from a fresh windows install to fix the broken dll files while in another os : this didn't seem to have any affect
-System Restore doesn't have any images before the issue began
-Full system antivirus and malware scan and rootkit detection with no results showing (doesn't rule it out, but I used Norton commercial, Mbits, Lavasoft, and Kapersky online all in safemode, and some rootkit detectors)
-Repair Install : hangs when initiated
-Updating windows to SP1 : it seems the system attempted to update some time ago and failed or was interrupted. Now SP1 won't install, the updater hangs
-in an attempt to fix the windows update hanging issue, I tried:

-Installing the system update readiness tool (Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [September 2012] from Official Microsoft Download Center) : the update hangs too
-Installing the fix it program here (Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working) : didn't make a difference
-renaming the software center file as in this thread (Script or command to delete contents of Software Distribution folder?) and re-attempting to install sp1.

I (my wife) has some very expensive programs on her computer that we no longer have install discs for. She had them before we were married, but they seem to have been "lost in the move." We can probably work with each of the individual programs, but I'd sure like to look at other options that allow her to keep her file and program structure intact.
