All of a sudden after turning on my Windows 7 based notebook this morning, when I select a folder or file with the left mouse button in Windows Explorer, all folders and files from the first to the one being pointed at will be selected. The files & directories stay selected. Double clicking will attempt to open the lot. Very annoying behaviour. Right click on the desired item gets me out of trouble. ANy selected files are deselected and I can then use right click option menu's Open item.
I notice since upgrading to Windows 7, Explorer shows some quirky behaviour compared with the XP version. My current irritation is when I open a folder containing (say) 500 jpegs that were in filename (ascending) sequence, the folder opens quite quickly and I can see the file icons, but I get a message 'Searching for items...' and a progress bar at the top of the window which takes up to a minute to complete. The end result is always the same... the files are now sorted into descending sequence. It seems to be the case only for jpegs, only when sorted on filename, and only when 'Large Icons' were selected. Even then it only seems to display this behaviour when the folders contain a lot of files (maybe more than 200 jpegs). And it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the folder has recently been opened.I note that if I click on the 'X' next to the progress bar, to stop 'Loading', there isn't a problem. The thumbnails have already been drawn, so what's going on during this process? And why the inversion?
Okay, so I was having some issues before with pinning network files to the explorer item on the taskbar.
I can now replicate the bug happening. I want to see if it's just my setup or windows 7, so I'd be much obliged if someone can test this out for me as well.
First Scenario
1) First map a network drive.
2) Pin it to the explorer item on the taskbar by dragging it there.
3) Open up the destiation through the jump list.
4) navigate a couple of folders down and open any file.
What you should get is the network drive is no longer pinned. However, the folder where the file you just opened resided has taken it's place.
Second Scenario
1) Navigate to a network destination through windows explorer (not a mapped drive)
2) Pin a Folder from that network destination by gragging to the taskbar.
3) Pin another folder than resides inside a folder in step 2
Result: Folder pinned in step 2 is replaced by folder pinned in step 3
With Vista I became a big fan of the search capacity into the "start menu - all programs" when I need to launch a software.
But in Seven (currently using 7000 x64) I'm a little bit disappointed about some strange thing in there.
I've got 2 softwares that I use often:
- Mediacoder (for encoding video files)
- M.Play Home center (for my IR module and remote control)
For the first of this two I start to type: M E D I A ... But as long as I do not type MEDIAC (and more) the only choice Seven propose to me is Mediaplayer and MediaCenter.
For M.Play I need to type M.Play H without what it still propose to me MediaCenter and Mediaplayer.. and only this 2 !!
I really do not understand why typing M.P give me the only choise of WMP and WMC ! It should display M.Play Home Center. As it should display Mediacoder when I start to type Media.
And Under Vista it give to you the most used answer. If you have multiple possibility, the first on the list will be the one you often chose.
In Seven, the choise is WMP and WMC.. until you type enough letter which became quickly annoying. This thing is supposed to make faster the way of launching apps... but not in Seven
I want to put speakers out on my patio, could i have 2 sets of speakers hooked up to my PC and switch which ones the music is sent to as and when? will i need anything special as in hardware or software?
I have a BLUEETOOTH dongle attached to each of my 3 systems. I use BLUETOOTH as my default audio device The sound quality is great.(Far better than that of a laptop.) I have a BLUETOOTH reciever attached to my stereo system, used for streaming PANDORA radio. I also have several other portable BLUETOOTH recievers, one of which I like to use outside on the deck. Why is it that WINDOWS 7 only allows 1 audio device to be used at a time. I would like to stream audio to multiple BLUETOOTH devices, but WINDOWS 7 does not allow that. When right clicking on the speaker icon to bring up "playback devices", only one device is allowed to be set as default! Also, if I want to pair with a second device, a pop up window tells me that I must first disconnect the device that is already paired, before I can pair a different device.
In the past few days, I have gotten many BSOD's while browsing the web, playing games, or talking to people on Teamspeak 3. Usually the BSOD/crash hits me usually an hour in while I'm doing those things in a session. Before I did get BSOD's and crashes but they were few and spread out. I never responded to them because they happened very sparsely. Now that they are very constant, I need to do some action. I have went into safe mode right now and am typing this on another computer. As for the dmp files, I didn't have the option for the BSOD crashes to save dmp files but now that that is enabled, I do have one dmp file that I can share.
Also I have noticed that sometimes that when the computer crashes, the sound becomes very distorted, the screen tears/fuzzes into a static-like image and then it just restarts. I either get this kind of crash or just a simple BSOD. It's very strange. Apparently these are considered BSODs as well according to bluescreenview, they just dont have the bluescreen. Interesting..

No errors even after 10 passes. -Took out the RAM sticks, cleaned and then put back in their sockets. -Cleaned the computer for dust -Used Ccleaner to scan for problems and junk. -Full scan of Malwarebytes. Caught 7 things but still nothing changes. -Done an SFC /scannow scan -Downloaded all the major Windows 7 updates. -chkdsk scan.
Temperatures vary but they tend to stay normal. CPU average temperature is around 40 C idle. GPU Temperature is about 40C idle, 50C viewing videos, and and may hit to around 60-65 C while gaming. Fan speed on 55%. Temperatures when computer is idle on the desktop. Screenshots included below: The first bluescreen after I enabled the computer to allow dump files. More examples in the Mediafire list. I have some of the txt and DMP files but I cannot find an "include file" option here: I just upload them on Mediafire. Here are those links. [URLs]
Printing to file from Quicken to PDF worked in XP by saving it in PDF but not in win 7 using "quicken pdf printer" as printer field, and it comes back with "could not open printer, check printer selection" how to set up step by step.
When I woke up this morning and turned on my computer, two popups appeared: One from ESET SS4 telling me that C:Users*user*AppDataLocalMORYRUs.dll was infected, one from Windows RunDLL telling me that the same file could not be loaded.I googled the filename without luck and could not think of the usage, so I closed down rundll32.exe from my processes in the task manager and deleted MORYRUs.dll. I also launched CCleaner to clean up my registry files. Now, each time I reboot I get the annoying popup from RunDLL, telling me that this file can't be accessed. How do I get rid of it
i am running windows 7 ultimate N and well i have a U3 Titanium drive made by san disk. all other usb pen drives work perfectly except for mine, the one with all my work on it. i hav tried uninstalling it but when it tells me it is installed. i am not sure if this is a diver problem or something. i have tried searching google. but i really need a quick solution to this because i hav a major assessment due next week and its on the pen drive.
it is not U3 because i tested my sister's u3 and it works fine, it is not the pen drive because it works on XP and Mac OSX. it is not that my computer cant mount pen drives, because everyone else's works... and i hav attempted al ports, using hubs, KVM's nothing seems to work o.o
the cd drive that is mounted for u3 to start up will mount but the usb wont, cannot access through computer manage> disk management.
When I listen via headphones to Pandora.com streaming music, RealTek will alternate between giving me the background music and almost no vocals, or the vocals (or lead guitar solo etc.) but very faint background. Sometimes the entire song is faint, like right now ("House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals).I've updated the RealTek driver to 6.0.1.6482 and installed the codecs from Realtek..
I have a strange problem regarding renaming multiple files, mainly pictures as I have tons of them. Whenever I name all pictures in a folder, highlighting them all and renaming the first one, it renames the first 40 in groups of two, as follows:
Filename (1)
Filename (1)
Filename (2)
Filename (2)
Filename (3)
Filename (3)
...and so on until it gets to 20, then they're renamed properly.
They are all JPEGS. This method worked brilliantly in XP, why not 7?
Does anyone have any ideas at all around this, or even some software I can use to rename files?
I have been having an issue that is occurring at random where after the laptop has been woken up from having powered the screen off, everything else still running, that it starts randomly opening and selecting loads of different windows and options.
Its almost like its racing through and redoing actions almost as if in a recorded session playing back at high speed, however many of the optins its selecting are options I never went into in any session since last full reboot.
Typically this happens for anywhere between 5 and 20 seconds then the system stabalises and runs fine. However I am concerned that during that time options and setttings may be changed without me seeing them occurring which will cause oother problems later.
I am running 7600 RTM, I have done several full virus scans (as well as daily automatic scans) all of which have been clean.
I have, today, installed Win 7 on a new computer. I have been using XP until now. I have googled and searched through the forum for an answer to this problem but can't find anything. Either I am the only one that has it, or I am the only one that it bothers
Scenario: I have a folder with 200 audio files of various formats. I want to select only the .OGG files whose filenames start with "A".
On XP: I would sort by filename, select all the "A" files, re-sort by file type, using CTRL and the mouse, I would then deselect non-OGG files.
When I try this on Win 7 my selections are cleared when I re-sort.s there a setting somewhere that I need to change?
I regularly need to turn off windows 7 GUI settings such as aero, certain services, unload certain apps in memory, all in win 7 ultimate. These settings will always be the same. I would like to know if it is possible to create some sort of file*batch file?) which would turn these settings off, and also a separate file which would turn them back on again when i wanted them all back.
I am familiar with working with simple .bat files, and converting them into .exe's and attaching them to shortcut icons. So my only question is where do i find examples of how to write lines of code to manipulate the windows interface.
i need to have files in folders for admin staff but need them also in my program folders. it is tedious to modify one then save change to all other folders - this runs the risk of missing a version.is there a way without having to write a macro - or an easy way to do macros in office 2010
I am trying to make a batch file which echos text based on an input. Here is the code I have so far:
@echo off set /p input= If %input%=="hello" or %input%=="hi" or %input%=="hey" or %input%=="yo" or %input%=="hello?" or %input%=="hi?" or %input%=="hey?" or %input%=="yo?" @echo off
[code]....
when I save the file and run it, it all at once echos the first three results, then tells me that 'else' is not an operable command and then the program closes.
In Windows XP, Explorer I was able to select multiple files of different file types, right click and select print. In Win 7 64 bit print is not a choice when I select multiple files of different types. Is there a way to make this work or is it just an option that was left out of Win 7 for some reason?
I've made the move (fresh install on new HDD) from XP to Win7RC x64 (I never gave Vista a look) and I want to scan my old HDD partitions for *.xls;*.doc;*.dwg;*.jpg etc to make sure I haven't missed any old files which were not saved in the right place.
The two partitions are mounted as F: and G:
In XP once you'd turned off the animated dog and chosen the advanced option, you could set "all of part of the filename" to "*.xls;*.doc;*.dwg;*.jpg" and "look in" to "f:;g:". It was a so easy
I can't seem to get Windows 7 to search for more than one file extension, let alone multiple drives as well. Is there an advanced search option which I've missed?
so we have this database app that someone has open full screen. you can click on a link and drag a file right to the desktop. problem is, she has the app open on the primary windows ( the one with the star menu) and the file does not "land" where it is dropped on 2nd screen, but where the next icon would go on primary display. have tried with align to grid, and auto arrange on and off. is there a setting somewhere else to set this?
I want to save a file to multiple drives, simultaneously. RAID can join multiple drives, as far as I know, you can't have a temporary RAID setup, whereas, you have an external drive that is attached temporarily, how ever long temporarily is, save the file which is saved to the RAID, when you don't want the drive to be attached to a RAID you can stop the RAID, whenever, and it acts like a regular drive.
I need to reduce the actual file size of a lot of pictures that I have, I want to do them all in one go and I don't think paint is capable of doing this. A simple bat/batch file command would be ok?
Below is a batch file I created to copy all the files from a program called A5V5. This batch file works to copy the files to two different drives What I want to do is if the J: Directory is not availble (This is a flash drive) that it will copy to the E: directory which is a second HDD and not leave a "The system cannot find the drive specified" when the flash drive is not inserted.
@echo off cd c: cd program files (x86) cd A5V5 cd Ranch Mobile, Inc Copy *.* "E:Ranch Mobile" (This is a second hard drive for backup files only) Copy *.* "J:Ranch Mobile" (This is a Flash drive that is not always inserted) Pause
I like the way batch files work and I can do these simple ones but when it comes to doing the more complicated ones I am at a total loss.
Behaviour of a dropdown changes in case we are changing the screen resolution. In case we are having lot of items, place of launch of dropdown list is getting changes as soon as we are changing the resolution.
I decided to come here because everyone here is far more helpful then over on the microsoft site. My first question is I am modding my sims 2 game. I use to be able to copy the file into my downloads folder no problem. I did an update a few days ago and now all of a sudden as I am copying them I get file destination name is to long for the folder. I have renamed them and it helps but it sucks doing it when I never had the problem before.Next question I asked on the microsoft forums over a week ago and no answer. My media player has doubles of each album. It really sucks when I am listening to my media player and have to listen to the album twice. I tried taking them out resetting it and at first it only put the first one and then sure enough it redoubled them. I don't know if it is because I have itunes. How can I fix this please? Is it because of itunes? Is it something I just have to live with and choose to use itunes or media player and not have both?
I have a folder with around 2000 files in it. I want to be able to copy certain files from this folder (normally around 40) and place them in a brand new folder, I want to be able to do this with nothing more than a txt file that has all the file names I need copying in it with every file name on a separate line.I receive around 10 new txt files each day so you can imagine how tedious it is searching through 2000 files, picking out the 40 I need, times a day everyday. To make things even more complicated, the txt files I receive don't always have the correct file names in them, maybe there's a misspelling or a word or two missing for some of the names. That's ok when I'm going through picking out the files I need to copy myself because I can normally tell which file is being requested, but I can't see it being so easy for a program or whatever to do, I'm guessing it'll need to have a search feature where it picks out the most likely file.I'd like it to be as automated as possible. I receive the txt file, make sure each file name is on a separate line then a program or script or whatever goes out and picks out the files (or most likely files for the name's that aren't exact matches) and copies them into a brand new folder (which I'd like to be the same name as the text file it's using to choose the files).
I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]
