I have 2 internal HDD drives, a 1 Tb master "C" drive and another for media which is named "Z" drive. I have a number of files that appeared on my Z drive that I cant really account for. I downloaded and installed Comodo backup free edition and that is all I've done out of the ordinary since the files appeared. I uninstalled Comodo but the files are still there.

Since late this morning a strange icon has appeared on the right side of the screen, whatever program I am running. It looks to be about 10% of the vertical size of the screen, is fixed, is a black rounded square and contains an arrow head pointing up standing on a narrow base outlined in white. The arrow head contains a capital A with a backward slash over it, and the slash extends out of the arrow head at the top. What this might mean, and how I can remove it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOne of my systems is having some serious issues installing Windows 7. I'm pretty much convinced that it's a hardware issue, but I've been unable to diagnose it thus far.
When I go to install Windows 7, after the disc loads the setup files, it just hangs. It just seems to freeze. I know the disc is a good disc because I have verified the integrity of the data and have used this disc to install Windows 7 on a few other systems without issue. My first reaction was that it was a DVD Burner issue. I swapped it out for another one, but same problem.
I then installed Ubuntu onto a USB drive and attempted to install Ubuntu from it. Not because I wanted Ubuntu on there, but because I wanted to make 100% certain that it wasn't a DVD burner issue. Same problem. When Ubuntu gets to the install screen, the system freezes.
I then downloaded Western Digital's diagnostics program to check and see if there was a problem with the hard drive. It passed with flying colors. I've tested the RAM with memtest. No problems. I'm just not really sure what the problem is. I've tried several different DVD's in the drive and they work in a Windows environment, but if I attempt to install an OS at startup, it hangs. This has happened with XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Ubuntu (I tried all 4 just to see what would happen).
Anyone have a clue what I may be missing?
Every couple of weeks I get a strange large file with a title that doesn't make any sense. What is this file and is it necessary to keep them?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I was having some issues before with pinning network files to the explorer item on the taskbar.
I can now replicate the bug happening. I want to see if it's just my setup or windows 7, so I'd be much obliged if someone can test this out for me as well.
First Scenario
1) First map a network drive.
2) Pin it to the explorer item on the taskbar by dragging it there.
3) Open up the destiation through the jump list.
4) navigate a couple of folders down and open any file.
What you should get is the network drive is no longer pinned. However, the folder where the file you just opened resided has taken it's place.
Second Scenario
1) Navigate to a network destination through windows explorer (not a mapped drive)
2) Pin a Folder from that network destination by gragging to the taskbar.
3) Pin another folder than resides inside a folder in step 2
Result: Folder pinned in step 2 is replaced by folder pinned in step 3
There are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!

So i thought it was gone. But when i was playing an online game the comodo firewall popped up asking if wanted to allow it to connect to the internet. How can i actually delete Comodo!?

i am having a slight problem with the firewall side of comodo: i know that it works when i can the 'stop activity' button and it shuts everything down, but when running leak test, the firewall does not respond, i have it on safe mode.
the incoming/outgoing monitor also shows no connections, could this be the problem? the program not communicating with windows correctly?
Is COMODO firewall compatible with windows 7?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust started setting up my backups with Comodo but suddenly realized that seemingly no name is associated with a backup. In my case I trying to create the following backups:
1. critical files: full/each-Sun
2. critical files: Inc/daily
3. studio files: full/1st-each-month
4. studio files: Inc/each-Sat
5. resource files: full/15-each-month
and so on...
But is it possible to create multiple backups using Comodo?? Or, am I just changing the full and Inc backups over and over again!How, for instance, can I check and/or change my 'critical files' backup?I have almost a T-Byte of data (I do 3D animation) which is why I like to breakup my backups.
This happened after I installed Comodo firewall. I'm not sure if that is relevant though. Anyway, I tried running the command "sfc /snannow" in the command prompt (in admin mode) but to no avail even after I restarted the system. Also, I can no longer create a system restore point manually. Which when clicked "create a restore point", they will show me these errors.

Since I am not so familiar with Linux I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and after the first restart (while installing the drivers) it kept restarting itself when the HP logo appeared.I learned here on sevenforums.com that a usual format of the HD is not enough if the laptop came with Linux. View 9 Replies View RelatedI run a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit machine, Although my computer isnt acting strangely and there are no symptoms of being infected I happen to have run across a strange folder in the primary users account. the folder is titled: CCBAA1F7E5E148B29ED9A79C6A37CE78.TMP, and in that folder are a bunch of files. I have attached a screen shot. Any idea what this is all about? I have seen mention of it being related to Cisco VPN client installs, which I have installed recently but there are also references to it being malicious so I dont know what to think. I have scanned with Microsoft Security essentials, Malwarebytes, and Superantispyware and absoultely nothing was found.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi was in my downloads folder on my laptop, and noticed a file I hadn't seen before, it was a zip file and when I opened it, it contained Psd. documents that i had created literally years ago, and never opened since. the strange thing is that in properties, it tells me that the zipfile, and files within the zip, were last created and modified on the 15th oct 2012. which would be ten days ago. also i says that the time which i it was created was 9:30am. i know that my computer is never on that early in the morning So, my question is, does/can windows create a folder of its own accord? is this a case of ghosts in the machine?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new PC (HP e9220y) running Windows 7 64-bit. I am testing different backup methods to decide what works best. I tried the Windows back up and restore and had some problems with it. (It didn't seem to recognize that it did one backup already and showed "Last Backup: Never". )
So based on a suggestion in this forum I think, I installed the free edition of Macrium Reflect. It performed the initial first backup just fine. The it did the first scheduled backup this morning as expected, creating a whole new backup file next to the initial one. (The free edition does not do incremental backups so this was expected.)
BUT, all of a sudden I seem to have a new partition on my hard drive that mirrors my C: drive. It's labeled K: (which was the next available letter.) I don't understand why this appeared? Any ideas?
An Hp file just appeared under my c drive. I think it was after combofix was run but not sure. I was going to delete it based on some people saying you can...but then I saw nvidia, driver, realtech speakers and things of the sort. Should I not delete it, or can I? Can I move it.

last night I had a new destination showing on my list of networks called SEXBOX. Had been working so decided to wait till this morning to investigate. It has gone now.
I have a small home network. Not fully operating yet. I need to study here more to understand. XP and Windows 7. I may not be the only people on my system as I have some others sharing the house.
I do occasionally open the naughties but never absolutely never join anything or down load anything or give my email etc. And I am careful not to click the wrong button. But I must respect the professionalism of those who wish to make me. it is their business so I must accept the possibility.
I have googled SEXBOX and gotten little save to say that some say it is a Sony name. I could not verify that.
It is not there now. it could have been someone else logged in with a fun named machine. It has gone now. Concerned though and would like to know if anyone has come across the same.

The machine was built a few years back and hasn't changed significantly since then The symptom has just begun today) and only impacts Windows. The Linux install on this machine is unaffected I'm running Windows 7, with Office 7, both activated successfully (also running Open Office and Libre Office which were upgraded last week). I recently changed video card, about 3 weeks back suspect this is related to some sort of Microsoft security issue can't find any references on the web. Cant generate a screen shot (which suggests this is being inflicted by Windows itself) even with bitmap capture e.g., snippy the icon is a very basic black and white padlock shape that stays right in the middle of the screen, is partly transparent and is visible no matter what programs are running - full screen games or windows applications.

My hard disc is not a quarter full and I have checked that discs don't require fragmenting. Icons on the task bar disappear and I get black screens. Start up is ok, but shutting down is slow. I mentioned to my son that windows photo gallery live, is particularly slow at loading (at most I only have about 250 pics in) but to my horror, when he had a look, he clicked on the "video's" and there are literally 10,000 pics or icons (for instance dozens of ebay icons - Nero Icons - AOL icons and many others) that I know nothing about. When the problem first started I did a manual AVG full scan which showed 350 warning, 43 potentially dangerous objects - all the warning were tracking cookies through Firefox. I only look at facebook with Firefox and 2 days ago a manual full scan revealed 45 warnings with about 6 potentially dangerous objects, tracking cookies.
View 2 Replies View Relatedanyway - i just unplugged everything from my system, to install a new graphics card, and at the same time dust around it, tidy up etc. including an external hard disc which is connected full time, and is assigned, or was assigned drive F.as i had an onboard card originally, i had difficulty with the install, so had to reset the bios by removing the battery.everything works fine now, except i have a phantom cd drive in F
it doesn't show in the device manager, and it isn't in disc management either.the biggest poblem is i have an external drive which has 500gig of projects, photos and video, which are all linked to adobe lightroom, premiere and after effects, and now they are all broken links, unless i can assign the drive which has now been assigned to E, back to F where it should be.
in XP you could put the installation key into the winnt.sif file. How do you do the same under Windows 7 ?

I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium.
I got the upgrade from DigitalRiver, in 32 bit as suggested by my very techie brother. I run the install, everything seems fine, but it seems to get "hung up" at 48% in the last step (I think it's "Expanding Files?") The cursor still moves, and the ellipses are still progressing, but it doesn't move beyond that. I've tried three times, leaving it overnight for 9+ hours, and nothing beyond 48%!
I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 with Vista Home Premium 32bit, Core2Duo processor, 2GB Ram.
I tried many times to install 7 ultimate but it just freezes at expanding files even the 3 dots freeze i tested my ram and disc for errors but everything is ok i left only 1 ram but nothing i disabled all the peripherals in my mobo but nothing also checked my hdd for errors and its ok aswell..xp and vista install without problems..

View 8 Replies View Relatedok I tried numerous ways of getting my previous instalation on a newly installed copy of win 7 x64 problem is, I can't see the recovery folder when I use the repair function when I use it under windows 7 ... an error log comes at the end of the process in which MOST of my files and settings are skipped here's what I tried:
-different admin users
-installing a second copy of windows on a different partition and trying to run the recovery with that installation, which didn't work because Windows 7 keeps labeling it's main partition as partition C ... so my main windows partition is labeled differently and the tool can't write the files to their initial paths
-tried a dos tool, copied all the files and folders myself to the normal paths, this didn't work because of errors I'm not an expert, but I get along with computers, now this has deffinetely proven very difficult for me
So I have a weird situation.A friend of mine has somehow bricked her computer. She is not the most computer savvy person and I have no idea how her computer got to this point, but the computer no longer recognizes her original windows installation. There is no way to upgrade or repair from the original installation as it does not appear. Her computer will not boot except from the installation disk. Her drives are visible in the command prompt. The windows folders and whatever are all there. There is approximately 7 gigs of stuff on her drive, but when you go to select the partition on which to install win 7, it shows it as being 100% empty. I tried installing it on that one first, it got through copying and expanding, immediately after reaching 100% expanded, when it tries to start the next phase, it throws me a corrupt installation files error. It appears to be different each time. So i created and reformatted a new partition and attempted to install to that one and I'm having the same problem. The disk is a real win 7 pro x64 disk, it is in pristine condition and was opened only yesterday when i went to install the OS so i don't think the disk is the problem, however i'm downloading the Windows 7 iso from the microsoft website and am gonna give that a shot. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?Oh yes, and it doesn't seem to want to let me run the Chkdsk utility, it always tells me that i need to reboot and run it from the installation disk which is what i have been doing
