Lock / Unlock Icon Appeared In Middle Of Screen - How To Remove
Aug 5, 2011
A flashing lock/unlock icon (padlock which alternates form locked to unlocked) shows in the middle of my screen. The machine was built a few years back and hasn't changed significantly since then The symptom has just begun today) and only impacts Windows. The Linux install on this machine is unaffected I'm running Windows 7, with Office 7, both activated successfully (also running Open Office and Libre Office which were upgraded last week). I recently changed video card, about 3 weeks back suspect this is related to some sort of Microsoft security issue can't find any references on the web. Cant generate a screen shot (which suggests this is being inflicted by Windows itself) even with bitmap capture e.g., snippy the icon is a very basic black and white padlock shape that stays right in the middle of the screen, is partly transparent and is visible no matter what programs are running - full screen games or windows applications.
I've just recently started using my new Thinkpad with Windows 7 installed. Since late this morning a strange icon has appeared on the right side of the screen, whatever program I am running. It looks to be about 10% of the vertical size of the screen, is fixed, is a black rounded square and contains an arrow head pointing up standing on a narrow base outlined in white. The arrow head contains a capital A with a backward slash over it, and the slash extends out of the arrow head at the top. What this might mean, and how I can remove it?
I am trying to figure how to remove the lock icon over some of my folders. It appear if I share one of my folder with the Homegroup and unshare it later. I think it is because when I share it with my homegroup, the Everyone/Cooperation (I'm not sure to use the good word, I'm using the french version) option disapear and I can't add it anymore.By default :Once shared and unshared : (can't add Everyone - Cooperation, which cause I presume the lock on the folder)My only option is to share it again with the Homegroup or with Everyone with Read instead of Cooperation. I don't want this folder to be shared anymore.
is it possible to disable the volume that pops in the middle of the screen whenever i mute my pc, because when i'm playing a game with "fullscreen" and i mute, it exits(doesnt close the game just alt tabs) the game to the desktop thingy.
Sometimes when I move directories the resulting directory needs to be modified under the security tab to add the "Authenticated Users" user in order to remove the lock icon. I've verified that I am the owner of the directory...and the other users with access to the directory is "System", My Account and "domain/Administrators".
I would like to know if there is a way to play a sound when the computer is locked and/or unlocked, similar to the way a sound normally plays during log on/log off. There's no obvious way in the Sounds options window.
HP, win. 7, IE 9, 1 1/2 T. Every time I update windows, the network icon appears. Windows won't allow it to be removed. I usually restore to former day, but am tired of dealing with it. How does it come off the screen?
anyway - i just unplugged everything from my system, to install a new graphics card, and at the same time dust around it, tidy up etc. including an external hard disc which is connected full time, and is assigned, or was assigned drive F.as i had an onboard card originally, i had difficulty with the install, so had to reset the bios by removing the battery.everything works fine now, except i have a phantom cd drive in F it doesn't show in the device manager, and it isn't in disc management either.the biggest poblem is i have an external drive which has 500gig of projects, photos and video, which are all linked to adobe lightroom, premiere and after effects, and now they are all broken links, unless i can assign the drive which has now been assigned to E, back to F where it should be.
I don't this language bar anywhere else. But when when lock my computer the little "EN" icon appears in the top left hand corner. I can't seem to disable it
I share a folder once. By adding "everyone" to the list of "people to share with." Then, I unshare it. All of a sudden it has a "lock icon" on it that I can't get rid of.
My screen goes black no matter what game I am playing. Can be an old game like Condition Zero or Left4dead2. screen goes black but there is still sound, then the monitor shuts off unable to find a signal. I have two computers with pretty much the same specs- pentium core duo 2.8 ghz, 3 gigs ram, both have Nvidea geforce 9500gt and one has XP and the other windows 7. One is an emachine and the other a Dell. The thing that is wierd is that both PC's run games perfectly with the same gpu's in both, Nvidea 9500gt, but one gpu developed a bad fan after awhile. and so I took that 9500gt out of that one and took the other 9500gt with the good fan out of the other PC and installed it in the computer with a bigger HD. Now when playing any game it can play perfectly for a few minutes to an hour then the screen goes black and there is nothing you can do about it. ctrlaltdlt won't bring the screen back on to get to the task manager, and the monitor shuts off and I must do a hard shutdown at the power button and restart.
I reinstalled both the drivers that came with the gpu and updated drivers from Nvidea's website. neither works and the problem still exists. If I install the gpu with the bad fan back in the computer having the issue, the problem is resolved and if I install the cpu that I switched out back where it was originally in the original pc it works in that one as well, so placing the two gpu's back in the original pc's they were in works, so this means it's not the operating system causing the issue.
My volume slider in the middle of my screen. Any ideas why? I use two monitors and have the task bar on the (What windows considers) "Secondary" monitor.
I recently bought a SAMSUNG 300E5A Series 3 which included Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.he computer itself runs brilliant and I have no problems with it. What does irritate me completely is the annoying pop-up that occurs when you press the caps lock button
This is my work laptop. I have my standard Music library, which is a directory directly off the C drive. When I download or move into that "Music" directory the directory I moved has a lock icon on it. In order to get rid of the icon, I need to add "Authenticated Users" to the list of groups, and then I need to take ownership of the directory under my account in order to to do anything. If this directory is in my download directory, it's fine...but as soon as I move it there the above situation arises.
i just recently installed windows 7 on my computer.... when i am in the middle of the game my screen will turn black but my laptop is still running i can hear the sounds it's just that the screen turns black only...my screen only turns black if i alt+tab to desktop and alt+tab bak and then continue playing the game and it turns black?
How do I get rid of the volume pop up in the middle of my screen. It mysteriously started appearing 3 months ago intermittently, and now is permanently on my screen.
Does anyone know how to remove the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar? I do not mean hide it. I have my icons always show in the notification area because I don't like the arrow icon either.
I was uninstalling windows live essential on my profile and added ms office outlook 2007 for email. For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?
my desktop screen suddenly has a 3 inch vertical black line which splits the screen in two and makes it impossible to move the cursor from the right side to the left.
when i try to use my webcam it says "this webcam has the parental control feature enabled. please type the password to activate your webcam." i really want to take it off because ive been posting videos on Internet and it suddenly does this!

I was recently poking about in the Group Policy Editor seeing if there were any changes between Vista and 7, but after I had exited and locked my computer I noticed my lock screen now shows as this:
(I had to use my phone as it seems you cannot use print screen at this login)
Normally it would have the persons picture and name, and all you would have to do is enter the password, but it seems it has made it so you have to enter the Username and Password which is quite an annoyance.
I went through all of the settings to make sure that I had not accidentally changed any, from what I saw I had not changed any settings or if there were in fact any settings that causes this behaviour.
I've just upgraded from XP to Win 7 and its driving me mad! Evertime I leave my PC for a few minutes I come back and the screen is on some sort of neutral screensaver...and I have to renter my password to get back into Windows. I've gone into power management and selected 'high power' option, selected 'never' for sleep, hibernate and so forth..but still this infernal screen saver thing comes on dozens of times a day.
