HP, win. 7, IE 9, 1 1/2 T. Every time I update windows, the network icon appears. Windows won't allow it to be removed. I usually restore to former day, but am tired of dealing with it. How does it come off the screen?
I've just recently started using my new Thinkpad with Windows 7 installed. Since late this morning a strange icon has appeared on the right side of the screen, whatever program I am running. It looks to be about 10% of the vertical size of the screen, is fixed, is a black rounded square and contains an arrow head pointing up standing on a narrow base outlined in white. The arrow head contains a capital A with a backward slash over it, and the slash extends out of the arrow head at the top. What this might mean, and how I can remove it?
A flashing lock/unlock icon (padlock which alternates form locked to unlocked) shows in the middle of my screen. The machine was built a few years back and hasn't changed significantly since then The symptom has just begun today) and only impacts Windows. The Linux install on this machine is unaffected I'm running Windows 7, with Office 7, both activated successfully (also running Open Office and Libre Office which were upgraded last week). I recently changed video card, about 3 weeks back suspect this is related to some sort of Microsoft security issue can't find any references on the web. Cant generate a screen shot (which suggests this is being inflicted by Windows itself) even with bitmap capture e.g., snippy the icon is a very basic black and white padlock shape that stays right in the middle of the screen, is partly transparent and is visible no matter what programs are running - full screen games or windows applications.
Does anyone know how to remove the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar? I do not mean hide it. I have my icons always show in the notification area because I don't like the arrow icon either.
I have a peculiar issue where I would need to have "Network and Sharing Center" open to be able to see that my my laptop's wireless connection. I would see the signal bar and also see the dreaded red x.Even when I have it open, I can see it refreshing each second; like its losing connection and reestablishing. My internet connection is working and has no issues.
Network and Sharing Center - Open Network and Sharing Center - Open and refreshed Network and Sharing Center - Closed
I've seen solutions posted all over for removing the desktop icon from appearing in windows 7 when you press alt+tab, but this does not seem to aply the change to the win+tab shortcut.I added a DWORD called 'AltTabSettings' inKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer and set the value to 1, is this supposed to work for both alt+tab and win+tab? If not, anyone know how to do this? It would make win+tab (which is much prettier of an effect than alt+tab) much more effective.
I wanted to know if it was possible to remove the hoverpress highlight that appears on the icons on the desktop and in Windows Explorer. Here's a picture to show you what I mean. I did some searching and found there is no up front way to do this, as it requires modifying some (system) files. I am familiar with Resource Hacker and such;I just need to know which files to modify. And also, which resources (images and such) would need to be changed.
I have a small issue with my USB port. When I connect my external hard disk to the usual USB ports I normally use. It would show the "Safely remove hardware" icon but however, there is one USB port I could connect it and use it to play my external hard disk but doesn't show the "Safely remove hardware" icon.
I am trying to figure how to remove the lock icon over some of my folders. It appear if I share one of my folder with the Homegroup and unshare it later. I think it is because when I share it with my homegroup, the Everyone/Cooperation (I'm not sure to use the good word, I'm using the french version) option disapear and I can't add it anymore.By default :Once shared and unshared : (can't add Everyone - Cooperation, which cause I presume the lock on the folder)My only option is to share it again with the Homegroup or with Everyone with Read instead of Cooperation. I don't want this folder to be shared anymore.
I just redid my computer that has win 7. I just finished adding music in media player, but some of my album art has these little blue icons that say mp3 or wma. How do I remove these from my album art?
My safely remove icon in the taskbar disappeared after moving it into the "hidden box" and there seems to be no way to reset it - which is strange because every other taskbar icon can be reset. I got a shortcut to the safely remove dialog window with RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll , but that does not reset the icon. How to get the icon back?
I did a stupid thing- installed a "free" program then realized they were going to charge me to actually use it, so I immediately uninstalled it but have discovered there is a notification icon left that I would like to uninstall as well but cannot figure out how to do so. Am including some computer specs.

Sometimes when I move directories the resulting directory needs to be modified under the security tab to add the "Authenticated Users" user in order to remove the lock icon. I've verified that I am the owner of the directory...and the other users with access to the directory is "System", My Account and "domain/Administrators".
We could like to build up the Kiosk in Windows 7 Machine. Before, in Windows XP, we can make the desktop in user's profile as read only and prevent them remove/delete desktop icon. How can I do it in Windows 7? Any GPO can be apply ?
I completed an upgrade from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have seen articles stating that there should be by default a Vista style network icon in the notification area. My install has no such icon. On XP I could go to network and click/check "Display Icon". How can I add the network icon, what am I doing wrong?
There is a nice range of icons for windows 7, but there were a few that I really liked in windows vista ultimate that I don't seem to be able to find.
One of which that I can remember is the network icon, in vista you could right click, change icon... and I remember being able to select an network icon that was like two monitors stacked on top of each other creating 4 montiors total, and at the bottom was just like any other vista-windows 7 network icon, a connector tube.
I am unable to find this icon to change the desktop icon for "network" in windows 7, does anyone know the icon I am talking about, and any way to download or obtain it in some other way to use?
So recently my computer wouldn't start up and was saying "BOOTMGR IS MISSING | PRESS CTR+ALT+DEL TO RESTART" and then I just left the computer on for a couple days and forgot about it. And just an hour ago I started it up again just seeing if it would work, and it did. It started up and I was really happy. But I got a D-Link wireless network adapter that I connect to the tower because I can't get an Ethernet cable to reach up stairs, So I have to connect to my wi-fi. BUT when I click on "Connect to a network" nothing happens. I can't Set up a new connection or network, and when I click on the network icon on the bottom bar nothing happens. I do NOT have the Windows 7 Ultimate Repair DVD. So I can't use that.
Every time after I install an anti-virus program my network icon goes missing, I can't switch it on also under the customize screen, option is grayed out. It does the same thing with AVG and Kaspersky. It is doing this with build 7048 and 7057, but not on 7022!
i set up an OU in AD that contains shortcuts to various shares on various servers. instead of having 10+ shortcut icons on their desktops, my w2k users could access all network shortcuts from one shortcut. plus, when the location of a share moves to a different server, i don't have to delete old shortcuts and create new ones on 30+ desktops. in xp, the directory icon went away so i couldn't create a shortcut to the OU. i discovered copying the dsfolder.dll icon to xp fixed the problem. can a desktop shortcut to an OU be achieved in Windows 7?
