I've just upgraded from XP to Win 7 and its driving me mad! Evertime I leave my PC for a few minutes I come back and the screen is on some sort of neutral screensaver...and I have to renter my password to get back into Windows. I've gone into power management and selected 'high power' option, selected 'never' for sleep, hibernate and so forth..but still this infernal screen saver thing comes on dozens of times a day.
A week ago I spilled some water inside my laptop keyboard. At the beginning I couldn't type at all, but now the only problem I have is whenever I click the "n" or "b" keys the caps lock turns on (but the letters appear). Clicking on the actual caps lock key doesn't work.
I think the solution wouldn't be to map the caps lock key, but to completely disable its function (as if caps lock function doesn't exists in the system).
I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise, and my laptop is HP Pavilion dv9750
I use two keyboard layouts on my computer--English and Russian. I switch between the two using left Ctrl+Shift. I want to remap my keyboard so that in both keyboard layouts my "caps lock" key does nothing and my "insert" key becomes a caps lock key.
Attached are a couple of screen shots of what I currently have in my registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout.
I was recently poking about in the Group Policy Editor seeing if there were any changes between Vista and 7, but after I had exited and locked my computer I noticed my lock screen now shows as this:
(I had to use my phone as it seems you cannot use print screen at this login)
Normally it would have the persons picture and name, and all you would have to do is enter the password, but it seems it has made it so you have to enter the Username and Password which is quite an annoyance.
I went through all of the settings to make sure that I had not accidentally changed any, from what I saw I had not changed any settings or if there were in fact any settings that causes this behaviour.
We just got a new computer that included Windows 7 software. My simple question is this. When we walk away from the computer for awhile and return to do something, the screen locks up and asks for a password which I recorded when we first set up the computer. I don't want to have to type in a password each time someone wants to use the computer since this is our family, home use computer. How do I turn off this option?
Got new ASUS N53JQ laptop, running Windows7, and can't get the taskbar to lock. I put the cursor "under" screen at bottom, right click to show taskbar, then click on "Lock the taskbar". A tick appears against it, but when I then click on the main screen, the taskbar disappears again.
my office has a terminal server and every time I launch it with dual monitors the terminal server windows do not lock at the maximum size. I can move the entire terminal server window up and down and side to side just by moving the mouse...it is irritating and not allowing me to use the computer efficiently.
If I use 1 monitor, the screen locks. The other guys in the office with Windows XP do not have this problem either.
For some reason my screen goes into the "enter admin password" mode when left idle. How can I make that stop? I get the reason for it, say if you worked in an office and don't want anyone to use your computer when your away, but this is a home computer.
I'll be in a game, and press caps. The window will minimize. This has never happened before. Also, when I click my cursor into a bar to type, then press caps, the blinking cursor thing goes away, and I must re click into the bar to continue typing.
today a little problem cropped up as i tried to watch a Internet video. as soon as i go to open it i got a sound loop crash (sounded like buzzing) and when i went to login it would crash on the windows 7 'jingle' at the login screen. this started happening the restart after i did a windows update, specifically kb982018, kb2532531, kb2529073, kb2675157 and kb2505438. i also used a tcp optimizer and ran this batch file to further optimize my internet connection beforehand:

my dell vostro1510,screen is lock and one button is blinking in blue light at the top.i tryed evrything ,pressing menu button, fuction key etc.plz tell me the exact way to unlock my screen
A flashing lock/unlock icon (padlock which alternates form locked to unlocked) shows in the middle of my screen. The machine was built a few years back and hasn't changed significantly since then The symptom has just begun today) and only impacts Windows. The Linux install on this machine is unaffected I'm running Windows 7, with Office 7, both activated successfully (also running Open Office and Libre Office which were upgraded last week). I recently changed video card, about 3 weeks back suspect this is related to some sort of Microsoft security issue can't find any references on the web. Cant generate a screen shot (which suggests this is being inflicted by Windows itself) even with bitmap capture e.g., snippy the icon is a very basic black and white padlock shape that stays right in the middle of the screen, is partly transparent and is visible no matter what programs are running - full screen games or windows applications.
I guess I may have accidentally disabled some drivers or something, but I have been doing everything I could to get it back, but I failed.1. I tried restoring it using ATKpackage .. repaired + complete reinstall. ( my laptop is an Asus )2. Tried entering keyboard settings, but couldn't find a related option.3. Tried editing the registry -->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Widcomm > BTConfig > General > KeyIndicationBut mine is already at "1", not "0" .
I've got a computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. There are two users, but I want that the computers always starts with the same user (no password) and not to show the user select screen.
I have screensaver disabled through personalize menu and command prompt. I have sleep/hibernation disabled through power options and reg edit. I have every power option set to not hibernate, sleep, go to screen saver, or anything. I have disabled every possible thing I could find that would cause a blank, black screen to appear whenever I don't touch my pc for an amount of time. And yet, I still get the black screen when my pc is idle. Why? How can I stop it? It's annoying and I have zero interest in having it.
I want to record Hedgewars, an open source 2D game. I discovered an open source alternative to fraps called Taksi. This seems like a very good option to use, but I cant play/record with it without encountering a significant amount of lag. The game itself though is virtually lagless. What is the best FPS rate/ settings for this, and is there anything else I can do to the computer to make it lag less?
I've set up a secondary account on my Windows 7 machine and I need to find out how to disable the switch user thing. In Windows XP, I could hit winflag+L and switch user as I would instantly be taken to the user list.In Windows 7, for some reason they had to complicate everything. When I hit winflag+L it just displays a picture of my account and a "Switch User" button, which for me serves no purpose what so ever.Is there any way I can regain Windows XP's user switch functionality in Windows 7, where winflag+L takes me directly to the user list on the login screen?
everytime my laptop go sleep then when i wake it up everytime the switch user screen shows up but no password needed how do i remove this or disable this?
If a window is moved above the screen so that parts are out of view, it is automatically resized to fit in view. Is there a way to disable this?
In Ease of Access Center, I checked "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of screen," but that only stops it from maximizing.
I currently have only 1 user on my system which is myself & it does not have a password, until recently it booted to desktop without any problems & then out of the blue, which I think after a bunch of windows updates I am now presented with the user select screen which I have to click to load into the desktop. How can I disable this as I have looked at the user controls & everything else I could remember to check & every time I reboot or boot up it goes to the user login screen which I only need to click because I don't use a password.
