For the past week or so my sound is not working at all. I've tried restoring to an earlier point and that didn't work. I went into realtek audio manager and my speakers are set on default. I don't know what else to do.

I installed 7 on a Dell Dimension 4600 1 GB Memory, ATI Video card, onboard sound. Everything seems to run fine but my audio. I had to install the latest AC97 drivers that just came out to get rid of the exclamation point in Device manager. When I click on the speaker icon or go to properties it shows sound is going through but nothing comes out the speakers. I have a second HD with XP and the sound works fine so I know my hardware is OK. Any suggestions to get my sound working?

It was working yesterday, thenm it stopped so I redownloaded the driver. It worked again. However, today it isn't working and I've tried reinstalling the driver.
I recently fixed and reinstalled my OS. Well once I did, my sound decided to simply stop working. I have updated all my drivers, Set as default device, checked sound manager, and even used headphones. Nothing. I have both a PC-Monitor cable and a HDMI. Neither one works. Even though I hear no sound, Realtek HDA still shows audio going on.

But when I rebooted my system with Backtrack OS.. I could listen the startup sound. and nothing other than that. As it is a live OS I am using,i didn't install any media players.. so couldn't check other sounds in Backtrack...
but in windows i couldn't even hear the startup.. I 've tried reinstalling the sound drivers. But it was of no use..

I've had WMC up and running for about a year now, no problems. Tonight we decided to watch a movie that I have as an *.mkv file - we do this all the time, at least once a week if not more. I shut down WMC and played the movie in VLC Media player. When I went to start WMC again, the sound was gone. The sound works in the rest of the system. I can hear computer sounds, and VLC and other media players work fine. It's just WMC that has no sound.I checked all my devices and drivers, no errors. Though to be honest, if that was the problem I'd expect all sounds to be gone.I removed WMC from the system by using the "Remove Windows Features" in Control Panel, and then re-installed it. No difference.I did notice however that removing and re-installing WMC, I didn't have to re-setup all my channels, etc. The settings "stuck". (Oh, by the way, I did re-run the sound setup in WMC, no difference).I'm wondering if maybe my WMC settings are corrupted somehow? Is there some sort of config file perhaps? I have no backup plan here, this is my only way to watch TV. I guess I could wipe the drive and start from scratch, but I'd prefer not to.

It plays just fine from the PowerPoint program when I test the slideshow. However, when I save the presentation as a PowerPoint 2003 .pps file, and play that show back, there is no sound.

I believe it started when I started plugging in my earphones into the jack. I can hear sounds (movies, video) and I can also hear the system sounds. Sound has been working fine until I changed my network adapter card, which plugged into the pci express whereas the other one was just pci slot. I have done a system restore, restarted my audio, checked speakers on other devices to make sure they are not the problem. Even when I plug headphones in to the front jack I get no sound. Sound is coming from Asus MOBO.
