View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new HP PC w/ Windows 7 Home Premium [64-bit] OS.When I ordered this computer from HP, it was supposed to come with a wireless internet card. However, the manufacturer made a mistake and did not install any card. I called and complained, now HP has sent me the following product:Linksys WMP600N Dual-Band Wireless-N PCI Adapter now onto setting up the connection....I did install a NETGEAR wireless card on the back of my old PC, about 6 years ago, so I think I should be able to install this card, however I did read some people have problems with the drivers on this card. Also, at my old apartment where I had wireless internet the first time, the landlord and maintenance people managed everything for providing the signal, so I don't really know anything about setting up router, signal, connection, etc.
Right now the primary internet connection in this house comes through the cable+phone company. There is an RCA Thompson Digital/Broadband modem or router or something, model #DHG535-2, and from there the connection plugs through ethernet cable into the Apple Mac that I'm using to type this right now.My new PC is in another room, and I will install that Linksys wireless card and use that PC most of the time. What I would like help with is:
1. What steps must I take to install the new PC
2. Do I need to get a wireless router, and if so, which ones will work best with the wireless card I received
etc. etc.I think I found my old NETGEAR wireless router, model number MR814v2(??), but I bought this 6 years ago and don't know whether it will work well or at all with the new dual-band card.

I have followed several examples, which are the same on setting this up, but still unable to connect. The examples show trying to connect using the computer name and user name. If you are connecting say from your office computer to your home computer, do you not have to enter the IP address somewhere or does it just connect via the computer name?
I have yet to find anywhere to enter an IP address or connect any way beside just using the computer name. I am setting this up to connect Windows 7 to Windows 7.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two HP PC's, both connected to a IOGEAR USB KVM Switch. My Home Desktop is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE. My Work Laptop is an HP 6530b. The monitor is an HP 2010i. The home desktop is running Windows 7 Home Premium, while the work laptop is on Windows 7 Enterprise. The ideal screen resolution (and my preferred) is 1600x900. My Desktop Pavilion never has any issue with proper screen identification. My Work Laptop 6530b, however, drives me nuts. Not every time, but probably about 50% of the time, when it boots up it does not recognize the monitor and instead changes the settings to Generic Non-pnp monitor. Then to make things worse, even if I go into Control Panel and click on 'Detect', it will find I have an HP 2010i monitor, but it still won't allow the proper Screen resolution (not high enough). If I reboot, SOMETIMES it will come up with finding the monitor and will then allow me to change the screen resolution to 1600x900. But of course every time I go through this, I have to re-arrange my desktop icons because they get scrambled every time the screen resolution gets changed.I cannot figure out the pattern of why sometimes I can boot up the laptop just fine with no corrections needed and other times the laptop will not recognize the monitor. All the drivers are up to date.

This time, after backing up all my files to disc (15), in total, I have taken this HP laptop back to factory condition. There is no problem there. The restore is fine but I cant seem to load the discs I created. I have turned off the laptop completely, as directed and started it again with the alt f10 keys, which should automatically load my back up but nothing is happening and if I try to open the discs on their own, I get an error message saying that the path isn't there. I have a home network with many other devices, including 2 other laptops, that are connected just fine. With the cable I get the dreaded "error 651" and wireless I get "unable to connect" Troubleshooting the latter I get "investigate the router or access point". Well, it's working for all other devices. I tried getting the laptop to connect using the hotspot on my iPhone and that was fine so it's not the hardware.

I recently switched over to Xfinity internet and one of the laptops in the household is not connecting to it correctly. After deleting it from the router and adding it back, the new error message I receive from troubleshoot is "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (Microsoft Home Page | Devices and Services) is not responding".
It worked just fine when I tried to connect it via the Ethernet cable. I have tried clearing the DNS cache as well. Here is my ipconfig /all for the laptop:

Well my Laptop is a inspiron n5110, its pretty new. THe problem i am having started on and off, Out of nowhere it would say that my computer has lost internet connectivity in the little wireless strength bar icon, then it would gain connectivity a couple seconds or minutes later. out of the 4 people who live here it is only my laptop... but now my computer can't connect to the network at all wirelessly.. at the moment im all cramp up connected to the router by ethernet cable since this is the only way i can get on the internet. The weird thing is its only this connection, when i go home to my real house the wireless is flawless. im a college student who is renting a house with room mates.
