HP Laptop Often Reverts HP Monitor To Generic Non-Pnp Setting
Oct 10, 2011
I have two HP PC's, both connected to a IOGEAR USB KVM Switch. My Home Desktop is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE. My Work Laptop is an HP 6530b. The monitor is an HP 2010i. The home desktop is running Windows 7 Home Premium, while the work laptop is on Windows 7 Enterprise. The ideal screen resolution (and my preferred) is 1600x900. My Desktop Pavilion never has any issue with proper screen identification. My Work Laptop 6530b, however, drives me nuts. Not every time, but probably about 50% of the time, when it boots up it does not recognize the monitor and instead changes the settings to Generic Non-pnp monitor. Then to make things worse, even if I go into Control Panel and click on 'Detect', it will find I have an HP 2010i monitor, but it still won't allow the proper Screen resolution (not high enough). If I reboot, SOMETIMES it will come up with finding the monitor and will then allow me to change the screen resolution to 1600x900. But of course every time I go through this, I have to re-arrange my desktop icons because they get scrambled every time the screen resolution gets changed.I cannot figure out the pattern of why sometimes I can boot up the laptop just fine with no corrections needed and other times the laptop will not recognize the monitor. All the drivers are up to date.
How do I stop the screen resolution from reverting back to 800 x 600 when switching to external monitor? Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile thinks the optimal resolution is 800 x 600 when it's actually 1024 x 768. How do I make it see 1024 x 768 as the optimal resolution and make it the default for the external monitor?
I have a HPE-500f pc hooked up to my vizio V551XVT and all that comes up is generic pnp monitor, is that the correct setting and if not how do I change it
The Generic PnP Monitor driver is flapping like there is something wrong with the monitor. It keeps trying to redisover the monitor and blanks out the screen every 30 seconds or so. Very irritating. I am running a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 22" HD monitor through a Belkin KVM Switch. This does not occur on my XP machine or my Linux server only Windows 7.
I formatted my dell studio 1749, since then, the resolution cannot be set to my desired resolution, the highest is 1152 x 864, which is ok with me. How do i get the driver for this. display is; Generic PnP Monitor on standard vga graphics adapter.
OK as Ive been looking around the site Ive noticed that there are many issues like this one, and Im sure there are plenty of people out there that have this problem.
My "Windows Experience Index" is at a 1.0 only because my Graphics, and Gaming Graphics rating are at 1.0. Everything else is at 5.9 which I can live with.
When I look at my adavanced settings for my monitor it Shows my Nvidia GPU but only running with 14 MB total avail mem. And I know that NOT right. Unfortunatly when I went to Nvidia's site and ran the auto detect it said that I didnt even have their product and that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
I can't seem to find the right drivers for this to fix it all, and I would love to be able to "Experience" Windows 7 at its fullest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the attached photos will give you an idea as to what Im working with. Also When i toubleshoot Aero Ive received this message:
"The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."
And when I try to change my screensaver to a 3D one it states that I either need a newer graphics card or one that is compatible with Direct3D.
I recently aquired a Sansui SLED2453w monitor, and it ran fine for a little while, but now it's set to a resolution of 1280x1024, and is labeled as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". This resolution is OKAY, but it's the highest that Windows is allowing me to choose, without saying it's unsupported. I had it running on a above 1700 resolution when it worked. I've tried updating it's driver, "detecting" it, and a couple other methods.
I've built myself a PC and run into some problems with the display resolution.
OS: Win 7 x64 Graphics Card: XFX/ATI Radeon HD 4550 512MB PCI-E 2.0 VGA/HDMI/Dual-Link DV Monitor: Hanns G HZ194
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4550 Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Current Resolution (I guess) is 1024x768 although the settings show that I have selected the recommended 1366x768. Everything is moderately big and chunky - not safe mode though. Is that the Generic Monitor is causing the problem. How I can get a sensible resolution. It's causing me some big problems as some of my applications don't fit on the screen properly and don't have effective resize/scroll bars.
Computer shows generic pnp moniter in device manager im not getting the fps i should in games resolution gives me my zoran tv. i updated my drivers to my best knowledge i believe and i have resolution issues and it wont read a second moniter. i have a Nvidia Geforce 550Ti graphics card, and a AMD fx 6100 6 core processor from cyber pc. i dont know if that helps but. i cant get this resolved.i also have it hooked up with hdmi cable for the tv hook up. for my second monitor VGA cable.
Everytime I create a Restore Point, I notice that "Generic Volume Shadow copy" is listed in the Action center. Should I be concerned? I don't remember seeing that listing before.I have a done a couple of System Restore points but none of them show up in the action center as "Generic volume shadow copy."
so i bought a Tomee Wired Controller Wired TOMEE Controller for PS3 PLAYSTATION 3 USB NEW | eBay and the description says that i simply have to plug it in and the software will install by itself. the first time i plugged it it it said installing driver generic usb joystick so i assumed it worked. im running windows 7 64 bit home premium btw i tried this controller out of lots of games and after plugging it in the buttons did nothing. i was wondering if there was a special program that i can use? motioninjoy does not support this controller cause its not sixaxis controller, but i dont need it for the ps3, just my pc. when you go into properties and stuff you find a place that shows you what buttons youre pressing on the controller, so i know the computer is recieving the controlls, so i was wondering if there was a program that can translate those botton presses into say, left down up and right, or az,sx,dc etc. if not, is there any way fo rmy games to work on this controller? remember this controller is not for ps3 but for pc so theres no worries that i need to translate ps3 code to pc code (idk if there even IS such a thing but whatever)
I have made sure that the power settings in control panel have been set to "never" under advanced settings. About 4 months ago, windows decided to set my monitor shut off time to 20 minutes. The first time it happened, I figured it was a one-off thing, and set the monitor off setting back to "never". Fast forward 4 months, and I have to turn the setting to "never" every time I start my computer. I've even made custom power profiles, and every time I restart, the monitor off setting keeps going back to 20 minutes.
If you have a laptop and have a problem getting the built in SD / MMC card reader to work then I've found the "generic" one from the Twinhead german site does OK. For X-64 use the Vista driver. Expanding the zip file will give you the 32 and 64 bit drivers.
The most "Generic" drivers seem to come from the F11Y laptop series but choose from other models if this doesn't work.
Most of these drivers are pretty "Generic" so should work with a huge amount of hardware irrespective of your actual model.
HP/DELL/COMPAQ owners are usually pretty lucky as the manufacturers sites are pretty OK. It's when you buy essentially an unknown brand of laptop where you can't find the "manufacturers" site as the laptop is badged under a different name. From the link just click on the Notebook model and get the drivers.
No stupid registration or "Let's scan your computer to see what driver you need" -- and then you are re-directed to a PAY service or more adware nonsense -- I HATE those sites --what if I'm using a different computer to get the driver than the one I install it on.
I have a generic mp3 player which charges from my laptop, but the laptop doesn't recognise it as a mass storage device! A local phone shop (Cambodia) told me they use software from (url)... to download music to phones and mp3 players, but I can find it on the net!
How do I find out what my POP 3 Incoming mail server information is andhow to I find out the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) info is, I have just bought myself a new Hp laptop and am trying to connect my dsl internet line with my lap top.
I've only recently noticed this, if I do ALT + TAB it will come back as the Windows XP style and it won't be the fancy Windows 7 style. In a previous thread someone stated that if you watch a lot of flash videos it will cause this issue. Is there anyway I can stop this from happening.
I just went through a lot of trouble to get Windows XP, Windows 7 and Grub2 (for all my Linux distros) working together. In order to do so, I followed this post on the Ubuntu forums. The part that concerns Windows 7 is Step 2.
I ran all the commands and was able to get all of the OSes working together, but now Windows 7 is using Vista's ugly green scrolling bar as the boot screen.
I've tried Code: bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US and Code: bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US Neither worked. I'd rather avoid doing a clean install, if possible.
I've changed a few of my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit services Startup Type from "Automatic" to either "Manual" or "Disabled" based on the "safe" recommendations at Black Viper's site. The changes have been successful with one exception. Note: This is my home PC, I am the sole user and administrator and this machine is not part of any network nor is it used for any peer-to-peer computer communication.I've changed the "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules" service Startup Type from Automatic to Disabled. However when the PC is subsequently started from a cold boot or a restart this service always reverts to a Startup Type of Automatic. There are no other services dependent upon this service. I've made multiple attempts with the same result. How can I determine what is causing the reversion from Disabled to Automatic? Is there a Windows log or a 3rd party tool that can isolate the culprit?
How do I change the setting for the bluetooth setting on a laptop using windows 7? I am trying to set up a bluetooth microsoft number keypad and is not working. trying to find a solution to set up the bluetooth configuration.
I have a new Dell XPS L501 i5 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Each time I open the laptop, and start up, if I do not touch the keypad the screen goes to sleep after 3 minutes. Each day I alter the Power Saver option in Control Panel re "screen sleep after" to 30 minutes, and of course save the change, and yet on re-starting after shutdown the screens sleeps again after 3 minutes!
For some reason, video files [all types] will refuse to play and it will revert to audio only. When I close firefox and run CCleaner though, the video will work again for a short amount of time before reverting back to audio only.
