Everytime I create a Restore Point, I notice that "Generic Volume Shadow copy" is listed in the Action center. Should I be concerned? I don't remember seeing that listing before.I have a done a couple of System Restore points but none of them show up in the action center as "Generic volume shadow copy."

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 Home premium x64 OS and it has been giving me more and more problems. I've ran virus scan on AVG and Windows security and came up with nothing. I've tried msconfig and disabling all non-windows services from starting and still nothing has worked! Windows Live ID Sign in use to start after I had to manually start it (even though it was set for automatic), and now it won't even start at all, giving me the error it didn't respond in a timely fashion. My windows task manager doesn't respond, and my system restore gives me an error saying "A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error".
The problem seemed to start when my web browser would start to not load pages. Then my printer wouldn't work because the "printer spool" service wouldn't start, then of course the hardware and devices in the control panel wouldn't load. After resolving that by manually starting the bluetooth service, the Task Manager stopped working, and the "printer spool" service failed and would not stay started. My start up speed has seemed to have hit a brick wall as well, I've ran start-up repair to no avail. This is my build as copied from newegg.com:

This computer was quick as can be when I built it, and had had no problem with it whatsoever until now. I can't think of any program that may be messing with it, I've gone through my installed programs and startup programs and nothing to me is out of the ordinary.
Is it possible to use Server 2008 R2, a Windows 7 workstation, or some software to collect the events logged in the Action Center on our Windows 7 clients? Also, is it possible to collect the events logged in the Reliability Monitor (View reliability history) from our Windows 7 clients.I am interested in aggregating this information in a central location i.e. on a server/workstation, which our administrators have access to. Is this possible when using System Center Configuration Manager? A smaller scale solution would be preferred as we only have around 120 clients.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I installed WinCleaner on my pc (which I had been successfully using for the previous decade on various machines) and obviously managed to damage/delete some key registry entries, as when I try to access various functions as an administrator (most notably trying to open Services) I get a message:C:Windowssystem32services.mscWindows cannot access the specified device, path or file. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an older PC (AMD Athlon II x4 630 Processor) running Windows 7 Home Prem - 64 bit. I noticed about a week ago my mouse was acting up (figured it was a bad mouse and didn't think much about it), soon afterwards I started getting that blue screen of death and it would shut down. My current virus protections is AVG, which I ran. I then ran Malewarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot in both regular and safe mode. They seem to find a few things but nothing that really looked serious. I tried System Restore but got an error statement that it wasn't functioning correctly because of some type of Volume Shadow component problem (which I researched and turned back on to no avail).
Other symptoms are when I try going to control panel or even the microsoft update page they open but are minimized - when I try to open them larger they almost look like they open and go to the far right of my screen out of site. The reason I think it is a virus is that in safe mode the control panels opens right up - but still cant get to microsoft update page. This problem seems to be getting worse the last couple of days. What is weird I really don't notice much else wrong with pc. I can still go online without a problem, home page hasn't changed any and haven't noticed pc slowing down at all.
I am not able to make backup, I get message not enough free space for shadow copy? How do I resolve this? I understand some kind of USN journal is created on System reserved partion. This hidden partition was created when I installed and now I have only 38Mb free out of 100Mb. As I understand this has been an Issue for more than a year, and still Microsoft has not resolved?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 operating system. It has a windows "Action Center". I do use the Defender and McAfee.
I was infected a couple of days ago by the Win 7 Security virus. I installed (from a clean computer) and ran the Malwarebytes and Superantispyware over and over again until it was clean.
I noticed my "action Center" seems to not be working. Can't even run the Defender, I get an error message of 0x80070424. I used to get the Windows updates automatically, and that appears to have stopped (although I can manually click "windows update" and get them that way. Oh, and the little white flag that would be in the lower right hand corner is missing (telling me of any problems or messages).
I checked my bitlocker in the services.msc and found it is checked to manual. Is that correct? What can I do to get this back working? Or am I still infected?
the flag disappears particularly if explorer restarts .i have it set to show icons and notifications ,the funny thing is it does the same on the laptop(currently using desktop)occasionally i can get it back by opening Godmode folder but this is a nuisance and not always successful. on the laptop last night i performed a system restore to a point when it was ok ,it didnt work also ran sfc/scannow ,the flag came back but on reboot it was gone again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAction Center alerts says that Norton reports that it is turned off and a second one that Windows and Nort6on firewalls are turned off. When I check they are actually on! There is no date information when these alerts were generated and I can't find anywhere to reset the alert or acknowledge it so I don't have the little red X on the flag saying i should check it. I don't want to turn off the alert for these alerts. Of course there is a fundamental question of why the alert is there but until I can determine iof it is a current alert or not I don't know where to start, If I do turn off those alerts then turn them back on, they are still there! Where to reset the alert?
View 8 Replies View RelatedDuring my bluetooth nightmare i have had 4 messages pop up telling me something isnt working right. these bloody messages are stuck on my screen and i cant get rid of them. Its the white box with the open action center link at the bottom.
Of course a re boot works but thats just stupid, i should be able to dismiss the pop ups. As it is windows cant fix it so its cath 22.
Anyone know what the process is i can kill? End task doesn't work.
I have avast installed on here, but the AC has "solve 1 important message". The AV. Now granted all the talk about how soon ppl think 7 will get out, no way jose is what i say, if they cant even fix small problems with the OS as to recognize it has an AV installed on it. MS has more work ahead of them
anyone else running avast or other AV run into this message?
Also too mention, i find it funny about the (only) 4 particular AV MS advertises for, especially when i've seen and heard problems with Norton and avg

I have a HP Laptop high end pavilion and it does the blue screen crash at various times and I cant track down why ie: disc installed, usb ports used etc..The blue screen says its a hardware issue and I have not changed any hardware, its still under warranty. I just have the current updates. When it reboots is says it will look for a reason why it crashed but then nothing..

Only thing still not working is the action center icon in the taskbar. In the system icon activation screen, the action center activate/deactivate option is greyed out. I checked with gpedit.msc, but nothing is set there. I also tried sfc/scannow but it does not recreate missing registry parts.

The videos opened up in Windows Media Player, apparently.
Played Ok.
But now, when I click on other Desktop icons having absolutely nothing to do with pix or video, Windows Media Center opens up. It's as if it has taken over my PC. Also, all my icons on the bottom left of my screen (the Start Menu I think it is called ?) now have generic icons. Also a bunch on my Desktop, but not all. Clicking on any of these also opens up the Windows Media Center. How do I get my normal looking icons to show again correctly, and operate correctly?
I have a HPE-500f pc hooked up to my vizio V551XVT and all that comes up is generic pnp monitor, is that the correct setting and if not how do I change it

It keeps trying to redisover the monitor and blanks out the screen every 30 seconds or so. Very irritating. I am running a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 22" HD monitor through a Belkin KVM Switch. This does not occur on my XP machine or my Linux server only Windows 7.

it came with Windows 7, I have downloaded all the relevant Lenovo drivers and updates
and installed all of them!
My problem is that Windows 7 recognizes the screen as generic pnp monitor and doesn't let me change the refresh rate above or beneath 60hz.
My screen is flickering in the background and it is annoying as hell!!
is it because of the refresh rate or is it something else?

I formatted my dell studio 1749, since then, the resolution cannot be set to my desired resolution, the highest is 1152 x 864, which is ok with me. How do i get the driver for this. display is; Generic PnP Monitor on standard vga graphics adapter.
