View 9 RepliesI have a Windows 7 Home premium x64 OS and it has been giving me more and more problems. I've ran virus scan on AVG and Windows security and came up with nothing. I've tried msconfig and disabling all non-windows services from starting and still nothing has worked! Windows Live ID Sign in use to start after I had to manually start it (even though it was set for automatic), and now it won't even start at all, giving me the error it didn't respond in a timely fashion. My windows task manager doesn't respond, and my system restore gives me an error saying "A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error".
The problem seemed to start when my web browser would start to not load pages. Then my printer wouldn't work because the "printer spool" service wouldn't start, then of course the hardware and devices in the control panel wouldn't load. After resolving that by manually starting the bluetooth service, the Task Manager stopped working, and the "printer spool" service failed and would not stay started. My start up speed has seemed to have hit a brick wall as well, I've ran start-up repair to no avail. This is my build as copied from newegg.com:

This computer was quick as can be when I built it, and had had no problem with it whatsoever until now. I can't think of any program that may be messing with it, I've gone through my installed programs and startup programs and nothing to me is out of the ordinary.
Some time ago I installed WinCleaner on my pc (which I had been successfully using for the previous decade on various machines) and obviously managed to damage/delete some key registry entries, as when I try to access various functions as an administrator (most notably trying to open Services) I get a message:C:Windowssystem32services.mscWindows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.I've also lost the option to change start menu/control panel etc to Classic View - the option just isn't there any more.So I tried to do a System Restore but there are no restore points and when I try to create one I get another message:The restore point could not be created for the following reason:A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information. (0x80042302)I assume the problem is all connected but have no idea what to try, short of doing a "reset to factory settings" which I'm loathe to do in case anything goes wrong - if it will even work

I don't remember seeing that listing before.I have a done a couple of System Restore points but none of them show up in the action center as "Generic volume shadow copy."
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an older PC (AMD Athlon II x4 630 Processor) running Windows 7 Home Prem - 64 bit. I noticed about a week ago my mouse was acting up (figured it was a bad mouse and didn't think much about it), soon afterwards I started getting that blue screen of death and it would shut down. My current virus protections is AVG, which I ran. I then ran Malewarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot in both regular and safe mode. They seem to find a few things but nothing that really looked serious. I tried System Restore but got an error statement that it wasn't functioning correctly because of some type of Volume Shadow component problem (which I researched and turned back on to no avail).
Other symptoms are when I try going to control panel or even the microsoft update page they open but are minimized - when I try to open them larger they almost look like they open and go to the far right of my screen out of site. The reason I think it is a virus is that in safe mode the control panels opens right up - but still cant get to microsoft update page. This problem seems to be getting worse the last couple of days. What is weird I really don't notice much else wrong with pc. I can still go online without a problem, home page hasn't changed any and haven't noticed pc slowing down at all.
I am not able to make backup, I get message not enough free space for shadow copy? How do I resolve this? I understand some kind of USN journal is created on System reserved partion. This hidden partition was created when I installed and now I have only 38Mb free out of 100Mb. As I understand this has been an Issue for more than a year, and still Microsoft has not resolved?

Now when I start the computer up it says "the user profile service service failed the login, user profile cannot be loaded". The computer starts up in safe mode and won't let me do a system restore because it says it is shut off.When I look at User Profiles in Windows 7, it states that the users profile is as backup and the default profile is the local profile. How can I fix my computer to get my user profile back up and working?

The Fax Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by any other service or program.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried booting into safe mode to scan for malware and viruses but I cannot go into safe mode just by tapping f8 right before windows starts. I have tried many times but to no avail. I think it is broken because the only way I can go into safe mode is via msconfig, but I would like to avoid that. Also, the volume does not go down, only up, and I have tried using both the function keys and the main volume control. It will go down but it goes up again by itself.

Either I have to repair the function, or go into Services and restart it. Each time I do, I set the Windows Search service to start automatically. Sometimes it does, and sometimes not. This has been going on for several months. It got so bad; I installed another search program that worked just fine. But in the end, I actually reformatted my HD and reinstalled all apps and restored Documents. For a couple of weeks, everything was fine. Now it has started again.
I have tried every fix that seemed reasonable and that I found online. My virus software (AVG) finds nothing. I checked all the Windows components and they are correct. No repair needed.

Got a Dell laptop with Wn7 premium and I noticed windows update was not up to date. Checked manually and it said Windows security center is not turned on, tried to turn it on and all I got was it won't start.
I checked and I uninstalled a Norton AV that was a come with, I rebooted and I still have same issue. I havent been able to keep Win 7 updated. I am using McAfee for AV, it seems to be working fine.
I have a Toshiba laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium installed.
Although it has updated in the past, I am now not able to start the Windows Update Service. There is no malware on the system and I have tried several methods found on the internet such as resetting the service. I have also been unable to install MATS RunWindowsUpdate.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNew computer build with fresh install of Windows 7 (64) on formatted hard drive. I have no printers installed and am allowing window to download all updates. I can't install any printers as windows print spooler service is not loaded. If I go to services, and attempt to start the service, I get an error message that says "Windows could not start the Print spooler service on Local Computer" "Error 1053; The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
All dependant services are loaded and running. I have restored the computer to an earlier point and was able to determine the spooler services are running. I continue to allow updates and at some point the service becomes corrupted again. I check in services.msc after every restart. I can't seem to figure out what's corrupting the spooler service. I've even gone as far as to re-install a system image created just after all motherboard divers where installed. The service appears to be working fine and during the process of doing Windows updates,after a random restart, it's not working again. Once it stops working it never comes back until I do a system restore.
I ran across an issue when I booted my computer this morning. One of the tray icons was missing that usually shows and my cursor was spinning non-stop. Not to mention nothing else worked. It was frozen, so I pressed the power button and restarted it that way,Normal, not in safe mode.I'm sending 2 Snips to show you what I think was the reason for this. gupdate is set for Auto(Delayed) start in services. When I went in there and looked gupdate was no started at either time. The first time 9:35:58am was when this whole mess started. I just happened to go back an hour later to look in Event Viewer and it was listed again and still not started with the same explanation.Would this have caused this freeze or crash and is there anything that can be done to rectify this deal? I know some people disable gupdate and everything to do with it but I do not want to get into this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade my son's laptop from Vista to Windows 7. My son's computer is a Toshiba Qosmio and I ran the Toshiba Upgrade Tool with no problems. The problem I have now is that the virtual memory service is not starting so when I start the install of windows 7, I get the error "windows could not retrieve information about disks on this computer". I tried to manually start the service and get the error "service failed to start".
If I put it on automatic, it just stays on "starting". Obviously, this is not allowing windows 7 to see my disks. Disk management does not show my disks due to virtual memory service not being able to start. The computer is ready for the upgrade, just can't get passed this problem. I don't want to use the recovery disks if I can help it.
With my new computer I have been using my old laptop to connect to my wireless network (since my new computer doesn't have a wireless adapter) through the Internet Connection Sharing function in Windows 7. This all worked fine for about a week but then suddenly I cannot connect to the internet anymore. I discovered that this was because the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service was not started. I tried starting it but I just get an error saying "The Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
