View 2 Repliesmy friends use Windows 7 and IE 9, but it only works right for them from the administrator's account.From a normal user's account clicking the link in IE 9 would open up the link in a new tab (as normal) and launch the Sopcast software, but would not tune it to the right channel.Under the administrator's account it did initially require 2 or 3 permissions, but as the regular user it doesn't even ask.I tried changing the regular user account to an administrator and reinstalling the software by the new admin, but it still did not work and did not even pop the permissions.Only lowering the UAC all the way to 0 made it work, but upping it again even one notch disabled things again. It never asked for any permissions, like it did under the other account.I searched and found others with somewhat similar issues, but no direct solution.I guess Windows 7 blocks it for the regular user, but how can I authorize it? Make it ask me?Should it have been working or is it something generally blocked, on purpose?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I update an application which I have in my Quick Launch toolbar, its icon move to the end of the list of icons (as if it were a newly installed program and not one that had simply been updated). This means every time I update, say, Firefox, or Thunderbird, or Seamonkey, etc., I have to go into the Quick Launch toolbar and drag it back to its proper place.Is there any way to address this or is it something that's changed in how Mozilla updates its programs? Ideally (and what used to happen) is that most program icons stayed put after the programs they pointed to were updated.

I tried to replace 3 files in the system 32 folder, and must have made a mistake along the way leaving my laptop inaccessible once logged on. The three files were:
uxtheme.dll
themeui.dll
themeservice.dll

I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.

The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.

I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.

I am guessing that there is still Live data which is being stored on my PC even after uninstall, is there anyway to delete such data in the case that it is the cause of the constant crashing?
Essentially, upon starting up my computer, from time to time, I have no yet been able to isolate what may cause this issue, I will find that I cannot launch programs from their shortcuts in the Quick Start or Taskbar menu. As of right now I have not tried to launch said programs from the original .exe file in this scenario.I've noticed that when I try to open these programs from the Taskbar, the icon will be surrounded by a square to indicate that it is active, but, after a period of maybe 5 seconds or so, sometimes longer, it will disappear and the program will no longer look active. Opening up the task manager, the programs usually show up in the Processes under the appropriate name. Multiple instances of a program can appear, even when, under normal circumstances, multiple instances aren't allowed (such as with Firefox). The processes will usually show a static amount of memory used, like 108k for any firefox.exe in the process list, and will simply sit there until they are ended, despite the program not actually running. When this happens I generally have to restart the computer and hope it works on the restart.

Please see the aplpication event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
Chrome is the same error but with the chrome location instead of inetcpl.cpl, same with firefox. What I did before this, everytime I turned on the computer, right after the splash screen when i first turn it on, it power goes off and restarts a few times and then it boots.

I found a couple articles saying my account didnt have the rights to do a backup. I dont know how this could be since I have a weekly scheduled backup and havent had a problem and I havent changed my rights. Plus Im logged on as a administrator. So the solution I found said this "Your Windows user account doesn't have the privileges it needs to run the task, Thomas. Go to Start, right-click Computer, then choose Manage, Local Users and Groups, Groups. Right-click Administrators and click 'Add to group', Add, Advanced, Find Now. Double-click Local Service and press Ok" Fix Backup & Restore when it won't start However Local users and Groups does not appear in my computer management. Im using Home Premium which is why I believe. Anyhow I dont plan to continue solely using windows backup either.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to un-hibernate my laptop this morning (I tend to only hibernate it overnight if I know I'm going to be using it immediately the following morning) and it won't let me log in.
By this I mean that it takes at least 15 minutes of the cursor in the middle of a black screen before it gets to the Login screen. The first time this happened, I was able to Login, but after that, none of the icons loaded up, only the taskbar. After which, a message popped up saying "WinLogin.exe - Bad Login". At which point I manually restarted the computer (as the Start button wasn't working) and chose "Start Windows normally." Now I am at the point that whenever it gets to the Login screen, it immediately restarts, and thus goes into a loop. I stopped this loop by manually restarting again, and selecting safe mode, at which point I got the following error message:
"WerFault.exe Application Error The instruction at 0x000007FEFD6C283C referenced memory at 0x000007FEFD6C283C. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000185. Click on OK to terminate the program." This was the only action I could take, so I did so. This immediately followed by an identical error message except with a different code, which began 0x000077....I was unable to see the rest because at that point the computer restarted.
Upon the next restart, I received a Blue Stop error message, which displayed for a few seconds before shutting down again. Key words I managed to see include: "There is an error with the program. The system was shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ...crucial thread issue...."
I literally have no idea what to do. If booting in Safe Mode has no effect, what can be done? I have also tried pressing F8 at the Dell startup screen (where it says to press F2 or F12 etc) but this just froze the machine!
I am running a 64 bit version of Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1555 laptop.
