Generic Non-PnP Monitor On Standard VGA Graphic Adapter
OK as Ive been looking around the site Ive noticed that there are many issues like this one, and Im sure there are plenty of people out there that have this problem.
My "Windows Experience Index" is at a 1.0 only because my Graphics, and Gaming Graphics rating are at 1.0. Everything else is at 5.9 which I can live with.
When I look at my adavanced settings for my monitor it Shows my Nvidia GPU but only running with 14 MB total avail mem. And I know that NOT right. Unfortunatly when I went to Nvidia's site and ran the auto detect it said that I didnt even have their product and that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
I can't seem to find the right drivers for this to fix it all, and I would love to be able to "Experience" Windows 7 at its fullest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the attached photos will give you an idea as to what Im working with. Also When i toubleshoot Aero Ive received this message:
"The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."
And when I try to change my screensaver to a 3D one it states that I either need a newer graphics card or one that is compatible with Direct3D.

Monitor Is NOT A Generic Non-pnp
I have a Samsung 191T 19" monitor that has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024. Vista Ultimate and Win7 Beta recognized this, but the RC does not and insists it is a Generic non-pnp monitor, and thus limits the resolution to 800 x 600, 1024, 768 and 1280 x 720. I have tried all versions of nvidia's drivers from 181 up to the current 190.xx for my 9800 GTX+ video card. Everything else is as up to date as I can get it. I am running Win 7 x64 and using the nvidia x64 drivers. I cannot change the resolution to the native 1280 x 1024 with either the windows CP or the nvidia one. How can I get this monitor to be recognized, or at least use 1280 x 1024? I tried to install the 191T drivers from xp but they weren't recognized by the install drivers exe.

Generic PnP Monitor Flapping
The Generic PnP Monitor driver is flapping like there is something wrong with the monitor. It keeps trying to redisover the monitor and blanks out the screen every 30 seconds or so. Very irritating. I am running a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 22" HD monitor through a Belkin KVM Switch. This does not occur on my XP machine or my Linux server only Windows 7.

Generic Non-PnP Monitor On Startup
Small startup issue. When I get to the login screen, the resolution has defaulted to 1024x768. After I login, I modify the screen resolution by clicking the Detect button on the Screen Resolution page.  The Detect button picks up my monitor name (KDS Visual Sensations VS-190i) and resets the screen resolution to 1280x1024. The monitor runs on a Nvidia GeForce 5500 FX AGP card with Vista drivers. The video card information is known by the system at startup. Then when I restart the computer the monitor resolution is back to 1024x768 and Generic Non-PnP Monitor. I've tried to update the monitor driver, but to no avail.

Generic PnP Monitor (yet Video Card Knows What It Is)
Win 7 detects my Mitsubishi 930SB monitor as a "Generic PnP Monitor" instead of properly identifying the monitor. The video card knows exactly what the monitor is. Vista .inf drivers can't be used with Win 7 to inform the OS as to what the hardware is when attempting to update driver or install hardware. Same problem with a Linksys USB Ethernet adapter. Any way around the problem?Â

Generic Pnp Monitor - Low Refresh Rate
new to the forum and new to Windows 7 and new to laptops so please be patient. I bought a lenovo g550 laptop a few weeks ago. it came with Windows 7, I have downloaded all the relevant Lenovo drivers and updates and installed all of them! My problem is that Windows 7 recognizes the screen as generic pnp monitor and doesn't let me change the refresh rate above or beneath 60hz. My screen is flickering in the background and it is annoying as hell!! is it because of the refresh rate or is it something else? I cant find drivers for the screen anywhere !!!

My Monitor Gets Reset To Generic PnP Monitor
I am running Windows 7 using a Nvidia GeForce 7200 GS video card. After every time the computer goes to sleep, it loses its display settings for my monitor (a ViewSonic G22fb CRT), and resets to the default Generic PnP monitor. To return to my display settings, I need to go to the control panel, adjust resolution, and click on the "detect" button. After that, the computer recognizes my Viewsonic G220fb again, and returns the display settings, including resolution to my adjusted settings.

Ghost Generic Non Pnp Monitor Installed On GeForce 8800GT Issue
Every time I install NVIDIA's drivers past 182.50 (which I believe is when they started making them officially compatible with Windows 7), my computer thinks it has another monitor installed, which it considers a generic non-pnp monitor. This happens either on Windows Vista or Windows 7. So every time I install a Windows 7 compatible driver, Windows thinks that a generic non-pnp monitor is now plugged into the primary output of my graphics card, overriding any monitor that was previously plugged into it. Even if I reboot with a monitor plugged in, Windows still thinks that there's some ghost monitor hardwired to that port. I can plug my monitor into the secondary output, work with the settings, and go off like nothing happened, but I can't see POST and boot stuff then. I can try and uninstalling the ghost monitor, but it just comes right back and the graphics card seems to refuse to not see it.

Standard VGA Adapter
I just installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit OS onto my laptop. Without thinking i needed any drivers, i went to play World of Warcraft. It told me that it could not locate a display device and wouldn't work. I figured i needed to install my grpahics card drivers for my Nvidia 9 series card. When i went to install the drivers, an error message appeared saying that it could not locate drivers compatible with my device. I went to dxdiag and under display it shows that i have a standard vga adapter and won't recognize my actual graphics card. I'm not sure if i'm missing drivers, i haven't installed anything else except for this attempt at installing the nvidia driver.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
I put Windows 7 on my friends computer since he wanted me to, so I installed it. But there was one problem. His resolution is stuck at 640x480. It said he is running from a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. His computer is fairly old, but all of the hardware is pretty good except for the video card. I brought him my old 7700 GTS for him to use for the time being, but I cannot install the drivers for it, and the computer still says he is running Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Standard VGA Adapter Has No VRAM
i have been looking through my system info i noticed that my Standard VGA adapter (the pre installed one that comes wit Win 7) has no VRAM, plz help i cant play any games i need 64mb of VRAM. I tried getting Nvidia display adapters but I cant install my working graphic driver, just the ones my comp cant support.

Cannot Get Rid Of Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64x. Previously, I had 32-bit Vista Ultimate. I have a Dell Precision M90, with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.00 GHz core duo processor, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M video card. In the device manager, my display adapter shows as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I'm decent with computers, so I've upgraded video card drivers before. However, for some reason it is not allowing me to upgrade this driver. I have tried with both a 2500M driver as well as a 7900GTX driver (which worked for me in Vista). I have also tried uninstalling the driver first, but it won't let me install another one before restarting and when I restart it just reinstalls the Standard VGA Graphics adapter.

I am really, really stressing over the fact that my video driver is not working. I just upgraded this BETA from Vista, my video driver supported Aero and everything, now I come, I look in Device Manager, it says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and I tried installing drivers, nothing worked!

1280x1024 32 Bit With Standard VGA Driver
Is there any way to force the Standard VGA Driver to display in 1280x1024 32bit? If I look at the modes available, then I find 1280x1024, but only in 16bit. I have an old Nvidia GeForce2 MX/400, and after installing the XP drivers I was able to run at 1280x1024 in 32bit, but I was getting some crashes in nv4_mini.sys when trying to install DVDFab. "The Internet" tells me that this is due to the XP drivers, so I uninstalled them again and rolled back to the Standard VGA Driver and was able to install the software. But now I am limited to 16bit again. So, is there any way to force this?

Updated Resolutions For Standard VGA Driver
It's been what... 10+ years of the same "Standard VGA Driver" which used to serve a more useful role when screens were smaller, but these days in the age of laptops, the resolutions it supports are just not working. We use several medium age laptops (3-5 years), still 64 bit, still multi-core, and certainly not beyond their prime, unfortunately NVIDIA doesn't produce windows 7 drivers for the vid cards in our machines (GForce 440 Go). The only driver that really works is the Standard VGA Driver, but it only supports standard resolutions from 10 years ago, the largest being 1024x768. This means we just can't use Windows 7 on any of these machines, which we were hoping to do, simply because the SVD doesn't offer 1280x800. Couple questions, has anyone produced a customized version of the Standard VGA driver? Or an Standard WXGA Driver? Or is it possible to add resolutions ourselves to the standard driver that would solve this seemingly simple problem? Last, why hasn't Microsoft updated the supported list of resolutions to cover at least the basics for laptops or even the base screen resolutions of any modern LCD screen? Again, love Windows 7, just wish we could use it on all our machines!

Standard VGA Driver Doesn't Support DVD Playback
My old ATI RADEON Mobility 7500 graphics card is not supported in/under Windows7, so I use the rather fine MS-provided Standard VGA driver. Unfortunately this approach doesn't support DVD playback in Windows Media Player: Each time I insert a DVD and WMP starts playing I get an error message that analog copyright protection is nott supported by the driver. Now: Can't the Standard VGA driver be corrected/extended thus that it would allow/support DVD playback? It's entirely up to MS (e.g. to lock the VGA output during DVD playback) from my point of view ..

Disable Default VGA To Enable Another Graphic Card
I have a somewhat older Dell that is more than capable of running Windows 7 (it also runs Server 2008 R2 quite nicely). The problem is that the onboard ATI graphics only has 16MB of RAM and is only recognized as Standard VGA Adapter. This is really unjust, so I obtained an NVidia FX 5200 for next to nothing and placed it in a free PCI slot. Much to my surprise, the BIOS has no settings for disabling the onboard video. It also has no settings for instructing it to look to the PCI first. As a result, the onboard video is always active during POST. I disabled the onboard video from Device Manager, shut down, and installed the new NVidia PCI card. I rebooted with the monitor attached to the PCI card. Nothing. I switched the monitor to the onboard video and sure enough, there it was. The NVidia had also been detected and was showing up as a Standard VGA Adapter with Code 10 -- cannot start. Not a problem, I thought. I had yet to install the NVidia driver, and the onboard video had already claimed the default VGA during POST, so this was not surprising. I installed the recommended 96.85 Forceware drivers for the NVidia FX 5200. These are the Vista 64bit drivers. Windows accepted it without problem and I swapped the monitor back to the NVidia during the reboot. What I was expecting is that the display would be blank during boot because the onboard video is active. I assumed Windows would switch to the NVidia when it started because I had installed the driver and instructed it to disable the onboard video. I was wrong. Blank display. I switched back to the onboard video and my display returned. The Nvidia card was recognized in Device Manager and it was showing "This device is working properly". The onboard video still had the disabled icon next to it. Yet I cannot choose the NVidia when I go to Screen Resolution and other screen preferences. It is using a blank video adapter -- looks like VgaSave. Have I gone wrong somewhere? Or is there a more appropriate driver I should be using? Thoughts and suggestions would be helpful. Keep in mind the onboard video cannot be disabled in BIOS, nor can the BIOS be instructed to look to the PCI first for video. There are no BIOS updates available. There is no AGP slot, only two PCI slots. This is what I have to work with.

Generic Bluetooth Adapter Without A2dp Device Driver
i installed windows 7 on a brand new eeepc 1000he - everything works fine except one detail: the generic bluetooth adapter does not install a driver or a2dp bluetooth profile for my bluetooth headset (philips shb6110). there are only some unknown bluetooth peripherie devices in the device manager. what is the reason for such behaviour? i dont want to install widcomm bluetooth driver - "not my favour"...

Run A Touchscreen Alongside A Standard Monitor
Haven't been able to get a good answer to this question. I plan on running my standard dual monitor setup + a small touchscreen for a total of 3. The touchscreen will be used as a lunchpad of sorts, holding icons for my most used programs files, touch, launch, back to old school monitors. It occurred to me that since the visible pointer would be on another screen, Windows might have to pull the pointer to the touchscreen to click, or might not know to pull it at all. I foresee problems trying to run a touchscreen alongside a standard monitor. Anyone have experiance with this? EDIT: Let me ask this a different way, question is a bit foggy... When running a touch screen next to a regular LCD, can I "click" an icon (via touch) without affecting the pointer on my other screen?

Can't Start After Change Of Proper Graphic Adapter
Windows 7 RC1 runs without any problems. Then, after a change of a nvidia 6200 series grafic adapter by another of the same typ windows won't start again. Automaticly Windows started the repair mode but didn't find any solution. There came some blue screens... After the 5th start of the repair mode Windows started again. How can it be that a change of a grafic adapter which has proper function lead to a falldown of the system so that there first where no possiblities to start windows again? Other user would have given up after the first or second falldown! Is this behaviar of Windows a bug or a feature?

Dual Monitor Graphic Card Suggestions
Currently have FireGL V3350 which there are no ATI-provided Windows 7 drivers. It does seem to work OK though with the automatically installed drivers. Thinking to upgrade to something a bit more up to date, what would the team suggest? This is for basic office/development work with 2 19" viewsonics so need 2xDVI. No gaming and would prefer something with passive cooling. Any thoughts?

Switching A Monitor Between VGA & DVI-D Digital ?
As I posted in the monitors forum, I am having problems with a new LG W2053 TQ monitor. Being used with a new HP Pavillion Elite PC. Great picture, but just can't get any of the OSD or configuration screens to appear. It has those touch sensitive buttons on the front. Have tried everything, but they never appear on the screen no matter how I press them (quickly, tapped, held for several seconds, etc.) Other than that, the monitor is great. Have it hooked up with a DVI-D cable for a digital connection, rather than VGA. Was wondering if perhaps to get these OSD screens to appear, the monitor needs, and uses somehow, the analog VGA cable for this. So, thought I'd give it a try. Now have both cables in place. But, I'm reasonably sure that the PC is still using the DVI-D digital cable for its output to the PC. Looked in all (I think all) the monitor related screens in Windows 7 but can't find where it is. a. Is there an option in Windows 7, somewhere, to tell Windows7 which to use, and to switch the output spigots between VGA and DVI-D going to the monitor ? b. Or, any thoughts as to why the config OSD screens won't appear would also be most appreciated.

Second Monitor Via USB2 Adapter
W7 Professional is installed and working great except that I cannot get my second monitor to work. Worked fine in XP using a Tritton UV100 USB2 adapter. Downloaded new W7 drivers from Tritton, installed them OK, and the second monitor is listed on the devices page as a USB2 VGA device, but in the column for Unspecified Device, and does not show up in the Control Panel display where screen is normally extended to 2 monitors. Have tried all combinations of connecting monitor first, then drivers; or drivers first, followed by monitors. It has to be something really simple that i am missing.
