Setting Network Drives Across All Users?

Jul 23, 2012

I have a situation where I have folks logging into the domain with their respected credentials. I setup the first users with everything they needed and then realized I would need to imitate this over 4-5 other users on the same machine. Is there a way to do this more effectively rather than by hand?

I want all users to have the same network drives (I have 6 different locations) and I want them to have the same desktop icons for accessing content.

Setting Up A Printer For Multiple Users

Mar 13, 2012

We have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.

Setting Default Desktop For New Users Windows 7 64bit

Nov 9, 2012

I work for a large corp which provides a standard image. I install this image, and wish to make changes particular to our area (About 8 offices)

Then burn the image for new workstations. I have been doing the desktop customization, show menus, desktop icon size, etc. I then go to C:Users and copy that customized user and rename it to default.

This works but has side effects, such as a new users default location for documents is always the original users. Plus some of our software fails. So I am now wanting to change the registry to do the same thing.

My question: Is there a way to edit the "Default User" in the registry so that it would be used for any new user? That way I could set the default registry and all new users would get those settings.

Network Connection Timeout For Some Users In Windows 7

Jun 22, 2011

I have a network set up with file sharing. I use a Windows 7 PC to host files that are shared with around 8 other PCs - some on Windows 7, some on Windows XP. The file sharing works but sometimes some users are unable to get access to the files. The error message is something like \PCNAME is not accessible. The user can connect if the machine storing the files is restarted but it will happen 4-5 times during the day.

Sharing With Specific Users/computers In The Network?

Mar 20, 2011

i have a desktop and a laptop:

desktop:
user: alex
password: password

laptop:
user: alex
password: password

On the laptop, i now want to share a folder with the desktop, but only for the desktop, not for the whole homegroup, nor the whole network. They are both in the same homegroup, as well as some other computers.

As the accounts are the same I added the user 'alex' in the advanced sharing-options with full control. But it ditn't work, so I googled and also added full control for the user alex in the security options. But if I want to acces the folder from the desktop, I still get "no permissions". I, resp the user alex have/has admin-rights on both machines.Did I miss something?

I noticed that in the advanced settings of both sharing and security I can always just choose the local machine as a "location"... got this something to do with my problem?

Setting Up A Home Network

However, I share a house and there is a folder I wish to share but only to my laptop, not to the rest of my house. I can't work out a way of recognising the users on my laptop, if I try to add a new user the location is fixed on Chris-PC and if I try to change no other locations appear.

Setting Up A Virtual Private Network

Oct 9, 2009

my girlfriends pc at her university blocks certain ports which are required by a website which she uses to watch tv online. Therefore as a work around, she bought a service which offered a VPN. This meant that she on her uni pc be connected to the uni internet, however then open a VPN connection which meant she would then be connected to this VPN and browse the internet through them whom do no block ports.

My question is could someone please advise me on how to do this, I have WIndows 7 and she has XP Pro. I tried setting up my pc as a host, allocating her a username and password and allowing incoming connections etc. however upon trying to get hers to connect to me, it just timed out and could not connect!

I would appreciate if someone could give me a step by step guide on how to set up my PC as the host and her PC as the client, in order for her to browse the internet using my internet, not her universities. I don't want remote desktop as dont want her having control and seing my desktop, just sharing my internet.

Setting Shell Folders To Network Locations

Oct 16, 2009

I have a number of PCs connecting to a server where we house our personal folders. The server also houses music, basketball games, our photos, applications (like drivers and updates etc). On XP and vista I could update shell folders in registry to point each of the various locations (Like My Videos, My Documents, My Pictures etc), to a location on the server.

I updated the shell folder locations in registry only to find that it says location is unsupported because the network locations are not indexed

I have turned indexing off because it is a total waste of resources. We have everything stored on separate drives by category of item. For us, sedarching is not required, stuff is easy to find.

So how can I point the shell folders to a network location without turning on indexing?

Cannot Find Tcp/ip Port When Setting Up Network Printer?

Dec 11, 2012

After my computer stopped being able to print to my printer wirelessly (the printer isn't a wireless printer, but is wired to a wireless print server), I deleted the printer and tried to reinstall via the Add Printer Wizard. The printer wizard sees the printer on the network, but when I select it to install, it can't find the TCP/IP port and installation fails. How can this be?

I *can* print from this computer to the printer when connected directly via USB, and other computers can print to that printer wirelessly.

Setting Up Small Office Network With NAS - Mapping Folders?

Feb 21, 2011

I have 2 lenovo h320 desktop running 7 pro 64 and a dell laptop running 7 pro 32. I have a seagate blackarmor 220 nas as well as a netgear srxn3205 wireless vpn firewall router. My first issue is setting up homegroup. I can create one on any pc and see it to join on the other 2 but when I enter the password it tells me I have a network problem. I can ping each pc's ip address from the others. I have checked all the typical fixes, ipv6 enabled...

Secondly, I need understanding the network layout and how the NAS plays a role in the mapping. When I map the network it shows the 3 pcs all connected to the router and to the internet but it shows the NAS as other devices at the bottom. I have mapped a few folders from the NAS to each pc and can see as well as use them but not sure why it is not part of the map.

Setting Up A 2-way Sync Between Local Files And Network Drive?

I've read the instructions for setting up an "offline file" sync, which is a one way sync. The instructions usually mention that it's possible to set up a two-way sync, but they never actually describe how to do it.

Unable To Map Network Drives

Jan 1, 2010

I have two desktop PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate, a HP laptop running Windows XP SP3 and a Network Storage Device (Dlink DNS 343 with 3 Raid Volumes) networked via a D Link DIR-635 wireless Router. Both PCs and the DNS-343 are hard-wired to the router: the Laptop connects wirelessly.

Since installing Windows 7 on the PCs, I am unable to map the network drives on the DNS-343 even though all network components are visible and functioing in Windows Network Map, Pure Networks Map and Norton Internet Securities 2010 Network Map(with Full Trust).

This was not previously a problem with one PC running XP SP3 and the other Vista SP1. The DNS-343 does NOT appear as a network device in Windows 7 Windows Explorer: nor does the Laptop, on either PC. The laptop running XP is able to Map network drives as before and access shared folders on both PCs.

To date I have reset the factory defaults on the router and DNS-343;disabled all firewalls and minimised security controls (eg: MAC filtering) as far as I am able. I can ping each device successfully. The problem is I cannot "see" the DNS-343 in Windows 7 Windows Explorer to map the drives.

Map Network Drives From XP To Windows 7

Jun 21, 2010

I have 3 Windows 7 Ultimate computers hooked up to a ATT FastAccess DSL line. They are in a Homegroup. I also have 2 Windows xp Pro computers that are connected to same the FastAccess DSL. From the XP can see all Windows 7/xp computers by browsing the "entire network".

On one of the Windows 7 computers is assigned to Susan. Susan Windows 7 PC has a 4 Tb external hard drive attached to it. I created a folder on the 4 tb external HD called Frank and shared it.

What I am needing to do is on Frank's Windows XP Pro computer is to Map Network Drive and Map to the "frank" folder and have it reconnect at logon. Problem is when it goes to map the folder it wants an id/password to connect to the "frank folder". I can enter the credentials that Susan uses on her PC and the drive will map just fine but I need it to map without asking for any credentials. I already tried "reconnect at logon" and it shows in explorer but wants a password to reconnect.

I was thinking if I create a Frank user id and password on Susan's PC then use those credentials when frank tries to connect to the folder "frank" from his XP Pro PC then that might work. I am not sure.

What is the problem? The computer is brand new and with fresh install of Windows 7 x64.My other problem is with mapped network drives. On the second computer, which is running fresh install of Windows 7 too, we have mapped network drives which are accessable on the whole network. The problem is that every time we start that PC with the mapped network drives Windows says "Could not reconnect all network drives" and all computers on the network show them with red "x" on the icons. I want them to automatically open at startup.
