I have two hard disks (c and d, respectively) and recently had a problem with the c drive (which happens to have my windows installation on it) having possible bad sectors and BSOD'ing on windows startup. I unplugged my c drive, installed windows on my d drive (I didn't make a new partition, format one, or delete anything) and now the drive says it's nearly empty. I think the problem is because the MBR is on the other drive, but I'm not too sure.
I erased a TV serie and some musc and subtitles off a DVD-RW, then proceeded to replace it with the same show but with subs in Spanish. Guess what? It says it has only 260MB free, and won't let me burn the show to it!

I have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

I have a problem that says windows trouble shooting the disks where you backup is being saved does not have enough space on free space. it gives you a couple of options showing managing back up space change back up settings or run back up again. I think at one time I tried to do this but did not know how. How do I do make a back up? Does it go on a disk ? Can you give me detail step by step on how to do? I don't even know what a back up is . It shows it is in the Lonova D and there is an error code 0x81000005. Is this why this is happening below?
I have windows 7 laptop and in the computer section it shows disk f disk c and lenova disk d and it is in red . It shows 7.81 mb free space of 28.9 gb. When I start my computer this comes up and says my space is full and shows the recycle bin but it is empty. Don't know much about computers and don't know what that disk is for . Can you explain before I erase something or do something I should not do.
A while ago I got an external hard drive. It is one terabyte(I do know that is plenty of space). I moved all of my files to the hard drive. My computer is still telling me that I have low disk space and drive C is full. I am getting very annoyed due to the fact that I have been unable to use my computer for a year or so now. On a regular basis I clear history, defrag, scan, and do updates. I have a feeling I have a virus that is hidden or my computer is being very temperamental and hiding files.
I have a Dell Inspiron M5110, I'm using windows 7 ultimate but the recovery Disk is driving me crazy, it keeps on bringing up the out of space warning and then it will only automatically clean up maximum of 2MB. I have read many forums about this and tried everything but nothing seems to work and keeps on filling up the free space automatically. It's affecting the computer's perfomance, it is stopping the internet pages from uploading properly, I cant chat or sign in to Skype, so basically the computer is useless to me except for intertainment. What can I do to solve this problem, I have run out of Ideas and I'm just an amatuer at computers.
I recently bought the full retail Windows 7 Home Premium, I installed it on my pc and everything is going great. I also have a copy of the upgrade offered to students and a valid key for that.
My brother wants to install Windows 7 on his comp (He's running windows vista premium 64) and I was wondering if I could use my Windows 7 installation disk to install it, and then just use the upgrade key to activate it? I want to do a custom (clean) install over windows vista, and then delete the windows.old folder.
I don't see a problem and a disk seems easier than that .exe file you get from downloading on digital river, so I was just wondering if it would work.
When I try to back up and restore (my files) it does not complete. I get the message disk full. I tried to uncheck the (shut off and delte all files from system restore) but that does not help. When I check the amount of space available on the D drive, it shows as full, but system restore seems to work; any suggestions?
I am trying to get several peoples opinion. I believe that a small disk that is bootable similar to a ssd is better that a large one full of data. There is less disk to deframent and it should be faster. The larger data disk will contain most of the files many of which will not be used a large part of the time. One can keep larger files such as pictures or videos in that data disk. I probably prefer a small ssd(less than 100GB) but am not sure that is the best way to go right now. Later on when the price and quality of ssd goes down I could substitute that drive for the small hd partition or drive.
I tried upgrading a Home Premium Installation with a Professional Technet Disk and found that it deferred to an Any Time Upgrade that had to be purchased separately (with an Anytime Upgrade Key). Has anyone found a way to upgrade with a Full Version Disk?
i bought a laptop for my daughter awhile back. I set up a user account as the administrator being me. The issue I am having is the admn password keeps expiring. So I have to reset the password. This time I can't recall the password I previously used? I need to download a antivirus program I recently purchased for the laptop but I can't because the pc is requiring me to do this from my user account(admn account). I can't remember the password for the admn account? On top of that, I thought that the admn user account would say administrator under the account icon? I may be incorrect in recalling that though. Anyhow, I really need some help in figuring out how to reset my password so I can download the antivirus software on the pc. Also, is there a way to disable the password expiring? I am so frustrated over this. I tried everything I could think of to access my user account but no luck.
I have a windows 7 laptop that is identifying and connection to my router both wirelessly and through a wired connection, but it won't connect to the internet. I have three other computers and two smart phones that all connect to the network, so it isn't my network. I have a dongle that ususally works, but I have the same problem with that. I have tried other networks with the same problem. My husband and I have tried a variety of common sense type solutions but we are both stumped. I really need that particular laptop for my work which is entirely dependant on an internet connection so I am getting desperate now.
Had a HD crash on a working system. Did an OS repair from boot disk. Works fine (?) now, but now I get msgs to do updates @ 200+ which will take hours to download. Those updates are already downloaded in a previous Windows dir - (Windows.old. How can I install/run the previously downloaded updates without having to do a massive download again? Tried "run", double click and other commands.
I had a folder that was set as private to prevent network sharing access. It's located on an internal hard drive other then my main C: partition. I re-formatted my C: and did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit. After words I tried access the same folder, and it said I didn't have permission but windows still gave me full access after it appeared to have indexed the folder. That was about a week ago. Now when I try to open a specific subfolder within, Windows explorer crashes. i really need the data out of it though. I dont see a way to alter the permissions now to revert them back.
PS i have the problem signature below:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name:BEX64 Application Name:explorer.exe Application Version:6.1.7600.16768 Application Timestamp:4d688122 Fault Module Name:StackHash_8b64 Fault Module Version:0.0.0.0
This happened to me a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to resolve it since, so I'm turning here for assistance. One fine evening, I come home and notice that my computer is giving me an error message:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the problem.
I am then told to insert my installation CD, reboot, and follow some steps. There is one problem: I do not have an installation CD. I upgraded my erratic copy of Windows Vista to 7 (Premium 32bit I believe) last year as part of the $30 upgrade for students program, and did so online. I tried using friends' installation disks of various editions to no avail, and when I boot directly from the disks it either gives me the option to reinstall or gives me the same error message (0xc0000001, BootBCD). I tried to track down my purchase information, but the email address I used to make the purchase no longer exists and my online banking service doesn't keep records past 6 months (I made the upgrade roughly a year ago). My question is, what can I do to fix this? Do I have to reinstall and lose all my data, is there a problem with the computer itself (this is not the first OS to be bucked off, it rejected Vista last May), or can I get what I need to run a system repair somehow?
Edit: Forgot to mention, the only software change I have made in the last few weeks is uninstalling Firefox and installing Chrome, and I don't think that would be the issue.
how do find the bootpath for windows 7 which was my old OS from recently installed windows XP OS.Since i have installed XP i could boot into my windows 7. It only boots in XP where do i find the boot path so that to add it in startup and recovery in XP
Basically, my problem is that randomly next to EVERYTHING will stop responding for about five minutes, except the lower profile applications such as teamspeak and mIRC, and its been happening since july. Then, it will work again for a bit and then it will happen again. I got windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
When it first started, it would freeze so bad that it would BSOD, but that has not happened recently, however sometimes even TS and mIRC won't respond, and you can't open any new programs up while its in this cycle plus 99% of the time explorer.exe stops responding as well. We think the problem started happening when we did the windows updates, we didn't do all of them but we did the majority of them at that time, but it may of just been a coincidence. It will happen basically no matter what i got open, if its just Fire Fox or if i got FireFox, WoW, Diablo 2, TS, mIRC all open.
I just recently upgraded to service pack 1, and the problem still occurs. I've ran CCleaner, malwarebyes, anti virus, and all came up with little to no malicious activity
Until a few months ago, when I closed firefox, all tabs at once, or shut my pc down with the tabs open and later booted the pc and opened firefox, the tabs that were previously open would open again. Some time ago a firefox update stopped the previous tabs from opening. I have some forums that I read and would like for them to open as before. How to make them open automatically as before or did firefox do away with that option?
whenever i'm typing a text on this laptop (fujitsu siemens amilo li 1818) the cursor () changes it's position randomly i.e. to: .
it is very frustrating as i need to put the cursor back in it's original place again, due to the fact that it jumps to previously typed text. sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a few lines. whenever it jumps back, it jumps in between words or randomly in words like you can see on the second image.
it happens alot (the more i type, the faster it occurs again). i am 100% sure that it's not caused by me touching the touchpad while typing, as i've been looking for 10 minutes now while typing and i can't spot myself touching the pad with my hand, finger or anything else. i tried covering the touchpad with random objects such as a sheet of paper or a creditcard but the problem still occurs.
it happens in any program (firefox, internet explorer, microsoft office, notepad,...), even when i'm watching a Internet-video browsing the comments it's scrolling the page up (never scrolls down).
Desktop does not respond to mouse actions as previously nor the front panel power switch.I have to disconnect the power cord, reconnect, and press the front panel power button. Then the unit starts up and returns to window without the login window as if it was sleeping. The problem started after my attempts to install a defective external drive enclosure connected with an esata cable. I have since obtained a working external enclosure connected with an esata cable. The present Sleep wakeup malfunction is now present with or without a working external drive.
the print icon that previously was located at the upper left hand corner is no longer their or anywhere that I can locate. Yesterday I was getting messages that my wireless was not connected. that may be ok noq..I printed a statement..however no print icon?
My C: drive has been displaying a size of around 60 gb with 40 free even though it's a 300 gb drive. I thought the issue would resolve with a clean install, so I did that. Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. Below are some screen shots of the drive size:Disk Management, showing my C: Drive's full size ^Any suggestions of how I can reclaim this space?? I've tried a few things already to no avail. If you need any more information about my computer to help, let me know. This is pretty annoying, 'cause I want to use that extra space to install Ubuntu.Oh, I just rememberedWhen I look at the drive in Paragon Partition Manager, it shows the full Drive size, but says that the space that is missing from Windows is in use...
I just downloaded Windows 7 and transfered over my program files from windows.old to the program files in windows 7. The problem i'm having is that start->all programs is empty, it isn't populating from the program files folder. Is there a way to tell the computer to search for programs and repopulate the all programs?
I'm using a p8p67 motherboard, an OCZ ssd, and two samsung hdd's.
