Possible To Have Quicklaunch Related Program Icons
May 14, 2011
i enable quicklaunch, is it possible to have all the quicklaunch related programs icons show directly in the toolbar without annoyingly having to click the ">>" sign first? And same sort of problem with the small icons in the right lower corner, how to disable the "^" button and have the icons show right there and not in the menu behind "^" button....?? Just switched from xp and would like to bring those back the way they were.
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
Just installed Windows 7 Professional on my laptop and it seems that I cannot resize the length of the quicklaunch in the taskbar. I've unlocked the taskbar, but the right toolbar sizing handle doesn't show. Any thought on this one?I have quite enough icons so I should be able to do the resizing. Here is a microsoft tutorial that explains how to do it : Show or hide icons in the taskbar but it doesn't help.
I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 32 bit running vista currently. I want to upgrade to windows 7, but the compatibility program said that the quick launch buttons wouldnt work properly. I searched around and looked on HP's website to see if there were drivers for the upgrade but I havent found anything.
Would anybody know
1) if my quicklaunch buttons would indeed not work if I installed Windows 7
2) What I need to do to get them to work?
3) Do I need to do it after or before I install Windows 7?
1. When I logon, explorer.exe freezes, and I need to do Ctr-Alt-Del to get Task Manager, end explorer.exe, and start it back up again for it to fully logon! Why is that? (I installed some crapware, idk if it's the culprit because it was some random DJ app that I found)
2. On my Hewlett-Packard G62 340US, there are 5 quick-launch buttons on the keyboard. They are (in order from top to bottom):
a. Email app b. Media app c. Default Internet Browser (mine is Opera) d. Print button e. Calculator
I erased my HD the second I bought it becuase I didn't want to deal with all the trialware and crud. I borrowed a legal disk of Win. 7 Home Premuim X64 (the system it shipped w/ originally) and you can guess the rest. (I used the code on the bottom of my laptop). So now my laptop doesn't have functions for the top 2 keys. I want to rig the Media button to open the 'Computer' page when I press it. So far I've Google'd to no avail, and the HP key changer thing from the website doesn't do anything!
I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.
I was experiencing problems with the icons for the front and back buttons in the explorer.exe . I ran the sfc /scannow command and it fixed that issue. However, after reboot All programs assosiated with Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint, MSN, etc.) I don't know what's going on but ITS REALLY annoying me.I ran the /scannow didn't do anything with my icons. I found a tutorial on icon cache. It fixed it to the point where it is an .exe file but still doesn't have the original icon?
I am running the classic theme of Windows 7 Ultimate and want to remove a few Icons. The first one is when your on a windows it has an icon of the program of the Top Left. The second one is the taskbar, How can I remove the Start Button Windows Flag Logo and each programs Icon for every program?
Has anyone written a simple program to allow for changing program icons ion Windows 7? I set VLC as the default program for .iso files, and each one shows up at that stupid traffic cone. I want to choose a custom icon.
My son did something to the computer and now if you click on any icons or programs, they all open an info screen for Minecraft (game). I can't even get Explorer to open. He does not remember exactly what he did or how, and I am stummped.
I needed to remove one of my programs and re-install an older version. After doing so, some of my program icons are gone.I did some research, and already tried deleting the icon cache, which did not help any. Below I have a picture of what some of my icons have changed to. I also have a picture of the properties window when I try to change the icon back manually:I really would like to avoid a clean install (but could do it if there's no other solution), and I don't have any System Restore points.
after i install a game to the x86 folder the icon will not show up on the desktop i have to go and do a send to to create a shortcut to do this annoying.. also in programs and features most of the programs icons are blanked out why?
Recently I changed all administrative rights on my computer to be able to install a work related system. Once I rebooted and came back up all of my icons are blank piece of paper with the corner turned over and stuff in the middle. IE is still the correct "e", my antivirus is correct, but other than that all programs have changed to the blank paper icon.
I was experimenting with DPI Scaling and changed from 125% to 150%. Didn't like that so returned to 125% and when I returned to the desktop, all of the program icons had a generic icon that appears to be overlaid. Haven't been able to find anything to return the icons to normal.
Looks like this: Would like to go back to the program icons.
I did an upgrade from Vista Ultimate to 7077 ultimate..Everything went smoothly with only one or two uncompatible programs. when I click on Start | All Programs every one of my installed programs icons are missing. I have to search for the program to start it and pin it to the taskbar if I want to keep it accessible.I've tried a few registry hacks, security settings and even tried to copy some shortcuts over. I also tried restoring all the default shortcuts to the C:UsersMYUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu - You can see in the screenshot only a few items have shown up.I've tried creating a new admin account and the problem is repeated there as well..No program icons in the All Programs Menu. My version is activated.
Running Windows 7 when starting machine, MS Access starts up and tries to run files that have an MS ACCESS icon but are not database files. Every time I close the error message for the file that can't open, another error window pops up for another file. Is this a virus?
I've had my Windows 7 PC for a year and a half now, and the entire time I've had it I've had Firefox pinned to the taskbar, and when I click on the icon, the program opens AND the icon stays there on the taskbar. It has been like this since I've had the computer. This is how I want it.
I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but today I updated Firefox to version 14, and now when I click the pinned taskbar icon, the program opens and the taskbar icon for Firefox disappears. I know you can set up a quicklaunch workaround (I've done that, but I'm just not satisfied), I know you can click this and that to get a new window to open, but all I want is my computer back the way it has been for the last 18 months.
I can get the functionality that I had back. I've read in certain threads that Windows 7 is designed for them to disappear when opened. It was never this way on my PC and I just want my setup back how I had it. I tried rolling back to FF 13 to no avail.
In the 'open with' context menu, I accidentally changed the running program for ALL the icons on my desktop (ie. the tickbox below the 'Other Programs' was checked when i changed the running program for an unknown file). So now, all the icons on my desktop are identical and all of them run using the same program
Just did a clean install. I like all my folders size set to Medium. opened C:, made the folders medium icons, folder & search options, view, folder views, "apply to all".There are still some folders (music, movies, etc.) that I have to change the size.
I've just bought a new PC which has Windows 7 installed so just finding my way about! My old PC was running XP and all my program shortcuts in the Quick Launch Toolbar had relevant icons on them. However, although some shortcuts I've put on my 7 QLT have appeared with the relevant icons, for instance FF and TB, 3 other programmes have just come up as blank cream coloured folders. So is there a way to get the proper icons instead of the blanks?
After launcing the game my Windows crashes all the programs and windows ( volume control ) that are related to sound as i try to edit or change anything ( change volume etc ). And i hear no sound from anything, only after i restart the computer ( i then hear "ssssss" noise instead of nothing ).
I have several internal card readers for my desktop computer. Two are Rosewill brand from NewEgg and one is RocketFish from BestBuy. They are all of the type that read SDHC, CF and a host of other cards and also have a USB port for a flash drive. They all connect to main board dual-port headers. For no reason apparent to me, the card readers still read USB flash drives but do not even acknowledge any flash memory cards at all in any manner. It is as though I did not insert one at all. I researched the 'net and found some things to try (registry edits, scanning for malware, disconnecting the power cord for several hours, etc.etc.); but, after several hours of troubleshooting, I decided I had three bad card readers. In a last act of desperation, I restored the OS to an Acronis image I made several months back and now the card readers function flawlessly,So, where in Windows 7 can I begin to look for a cause/solution to this kind of problem if it happens again? It probably will happen again as I already have an XP system where the problem has popped up with these same card readers.Additional Info: I have an external reader that functioned fine on the same systems on which the internal readers did not work.
I recently build a new Sandy Bridge computer to replace an older Conroe system. The new build retained the SSD (OS and programs) drive and the SATA data drives along with the existing Windows 7/64HP installation.I built an Asus P8Z68V Pro with an Intel i5-2500k and DDR3-1333 ram (12GB). I did not reinstall Windows 7/64HP. I had to tweak a few programs that had an issue with my substitute hardware, but otherwise it seems to run fine. However, I've had some crazy BSODs that seem to tie into grmnusb.sys. Yesterday I had 3 BSODs in a row that would happen as soon as I plugged in my Garmin Edge 305. The first happened while I was OCed. I rebooted and changed to default BIOS settings. Another BSOD when I reconnected the 305. So I uninstalled the Garmin USB driver and rebooted. Another BSOD when I connected the 305.I finally just left the Edge 305 connected and rebooted the computer and it came up ok and let me access the data on the device in a normal manner. And yet on the same system, I've had a number of times I've plugged the Garmin device in with no issues at all. When I first built the box (a couple of weeks ago) I had a BSOD from the Edge 305 connection, again with the gmnusb.sys tie-in. I rebooted, uninstalled the affected usb driver and all was ok for a time. And then the Garmin didn't want to connect so I re-installed the Garmin usb driver and all was well for a time.. and then, here we go again. Before I go though the routine of uploading the BSOD jcgriff zip files, I want to see if this is a known issue related to Z68 boards, or perhaps because I didn't re-install Windows 7 for the new hardware or if it's because computers just don't like me for some reason.
I've built a new system only a few weeks ago. Sometimes i have a bsod " PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" releated to "ntoskrnl.exe", i've tested the RAM with memtest for 10 pass with no error. Reset bios done and no oc.I'm having problems finding out what the problem is. I have uploaded the minidump.
I've recently reinstalled Windows 7 (32-bit Ultimate). It seems there is some problem with 3D stuff on any OS I try. After the setup, when it was checking the video performance it crashed as well. And now every time I try to run that program which gives you system's rating in Windows 7 it crashes within a few seconds (on Running Direct3D Aero Assessment). If I try to play any games it crashes almost immediately as well but other than that everything seems to be working perfectly fine. I can watch movies and browse the internet on Chrome for hours (weirdly it crashes on Firefox after some time...) I had the same problem on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Windows Vista Home Premium x32 as well... And all Event Viewer is showing is that ID 41 Error which doesn't really tell anything. :/ Before all these Vista and Windows 7 installations I used Windows XP and it seemed to be working pretty good but it would crash on certain games too.
I've tried changing back to XP but everytime I try to install it I get a BSOD telling me to run checkdisk (I've used 2 different CDs to try and install it because I thought maybe some files on my CD were corrupt or something but I got the same BSOD). I ran chkdsk and it didn't find any problems. I'm not really good with computers scomputer specs:Intel Core Duo 2.20GhzATI Mobility Radeon HD 45704GB RAMWindows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit
If in msconfig, the power service is enabled at bootup, I get sound but every browser crashes with the flash plugin and other problems don't work properly, some don't even launch.
But if I disable the Power service, I get no crashes but the sound is gone and I get a little x in the audio icon.
What can I do? I restored BIOS settings to default and messed around with many things but I can't solve it.
