after i install a game to the x86 folder the icon will not show up on the desktop i have to go and do a send to to create a shortcut to do this annoying.. also in programs and features most of the programs icons are blanked out why?
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
In the 'open with' context menu, I accidentally changed the running program for ALL the icons on my desktop (ie. the tickbox below the 'Other Programs' was checked when i changed the running program for an unknown file). So now, all the icons on my desktop are identical and all of them run using the same program
I have recently been using some .bat tools to speed up searches in root directories. The tools search for the files in a list.txt, and copy them to a new folder which appears on my desktop. It has been working, until I used a new version today. It copied the files correctly, but I could not see the new folder appear on the desktop. I searched for it and found it where it should be, C:UsersEvanDesktopWhy does this folder exist, but not appear visually on my desktop? is it an error in my.bat file or something else
This morning I was arranging my desktop files and folders. As I clicked the command to sort by item type, suddenly I had duplicates of every file and folder as listed on my desktop. I even had two icons for the recycle bin! I started moving one of each of the duplicated files and folders into one of the duplicated recycle bins.
I rearranged the files and folders. I then emptied one of the recycle bins. I then clicked on the desktop to rearrange the files and folders. Suddenly almost everything else on my desktop disappeared! There were many files and folder on the desktop that are now gone, there are only 7 files and folders left. Is there any way I can recover these missing files and folders.
My desktop view has some folders and Icons on the Desktop which I use and I cannot re-arrange and move them as stay fixed dotted all over my screen view or delete files on desktop in any method like drop and drag to recycle bin all seems frozen then I sometimes turn PC on and everything on desktops frozen then I reboot and can use but the icons remain fixed and unmovable in tradition drop and drag as you can grab but go straight back to the desktop positions.
the Program Files and Windows folders show up on the desktop AND Program Files(x86), Users folders appear on the desktop twice..... THey are all linked, I have created files in one ad it shows up in all locations so I can't delete them. I have run Malwarebytes (quick) and found a Trojan downloader but they are still there. Have been for a while now and I don't know what to do
Can't change desktop wallpaper and all my program files folder are empty?I think it could be a virus or something. I have been told this can be useful.

all my icons on desktop and computer have turned to notepad icons... and they open with some text on notepad... looking for a solution to go back to normal settings...
I have a program installed under "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWName". When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say FROM "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.abc TO "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.xyz
The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.
It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameNewName".
why this particular Windows 7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?
I've been looking around for something that can hide my desktop icons (or basically anything except my background & bottom navigation bar) if I'm not viewing the desktop. In other words, when I have a (not full screen) window open, I want to be able to see my desktop background but not the icons on it. When I "view" the desktop, or don't have anything on top of it, I want the icons back.
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
I recently upgraded a Win-XP home system to Win-7 Home Premium. Everything went fine. But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.
Finally I have found the place where my problem might get solved.Thing is: 1.There is a big "X" on 3 out of 4 disks I got(except "C" disk) as shown in the picture below: 2.Desktop icons are changed as well but not all of them. This is the second time this kind of crap happens to me. Last time it happened was after I clicked system backup. I couldn't stand the problem so I reinstalled my windows 7 pro 32bit and at first it was all ok. It came back after I rebooted which I couldn't figure out why. The only diffrence is last time all the desktop icons were changed, but this time as you can see some of the icons aren't changed.
I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.
I was experiencing problems with the icons for the front and back buttons in the explorer.exe . I ran the sfc /scannow command and it fixed that issue. However, after reboot All programs assosiated with Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint, MSN, etc.) I don't know what's going on but ITS REALLY annoying me.I ran the /scannow didn't do anything with my icons. I found a tutorial on icon cache. It fixed it to the point where it is an .exe file but still doesn't have the original icon?
I am running the classic theme of Windows 7 Ultimate and want to remove a few Icons. The first one is when your on a windows it has an icon of the program of the Top Left. The second one is the taskbar, How can I remove the Start Button Windows Flag Logo and each programs Icon for every program?
Has anyone written a simple program to allow for changing program icons ion Windows 7? I set VLC as the default program for .iso files, and each one shows up at that stupid traffic cone. I want to choose a custom icon.
My son did something to the computer and now if you click on any icons or programs, they all open an info screen for Minecraft (game). I can't even get Explorer to open. He does not remember exactly what he did or how, and I am stummped.
