Cannot Resize Quicklaunch In Taskbar
Jul 16, 2011
Just installed Windows 7 Professional on my laptop and it seems that I cannot resize the length of the quicklaunch in the taskbar. I've unlocked the taskbar, but the right toolbar sizing handle doesn't show. Any thought on this one?I have quite enough icons so I should be able to do the resizing. Here is a microsoft tutorial that explains how to do it : Show or hide icons in the taskbar but it doesn't help.

I'm looking for a way to adjust the size of the area where pinned programs sit on the taskbar. In WinXP with the quick launch, we had the ability to resize the area & additional icons would either show when the >> button was pressed or would display on multiple lines if the taskbar was resized.just can't figure out how to tackle this in windows 7

The O/S is StarterPack - that MAY be of relevance. I've 'restored' the QuickLaunch bar, but see no icons for any of the items in that bar.

I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 32 bit running vista currently. I want to upgrade to windows 7, but the compatibility program said that the quick launch buttons wouldnt work properly. I searched around and looked on HP's website to see if there were drivers for the upgrade but I havent found anything.
Would anybody know
1) if my quicklaunch buttons would indeed not work if I installed Windows 7
2) What I need to do to get them to work?
3) Do I need to do it after or before I install Windows 7?

i enable quicklaunch, is it possible to have all the quicklaunch related programs icons show directly in the toolbar without annoyingly having to click the ">>" sign first? And same sort of problem with the small icons in the right lower corner, how to disable the "^" button and have the icons show right there and not in the menu behind "^" button....?? Just switched from xp and would like to bring those back the way they were.

1. When I logon, explorer.exe freezes, and I need to do Ctr-Alt-Del to get Task Manager, end explorer.exe, and start it back up again for it to fully logon! Why is that? (I installed some crapware, idk if it's the culprit because it was some random DJ app that I found)
2. On my Hewlett-Packard G62 340US, there are 5 quick-launch buttons on the keyboard. They are (in order from top to bottom):
a. Email app
b. Media app
c. Default Internet Browser (mine is Opera)
d. Print button
e. Calculator
I erased my HD the second I bought it becuase I didn't want to deal with all the trialware and crud. I borrowed a legal disk of Win. 7 Home Premuim X64 (the system it shipped w/ originally) and you can guess the rest. (I used the code on the bottom of my laptop). So now my laptop doesn't have functions for the top 2 keys. I want to rig the Media button to open the 'Computer' page when I press it. So far I've Google'd to no avail, and the HP key changer thing from the website doesn't do anything!

I installed a new 1TB drive on my W7 pc. I created 2 partitions but now find I cannot shrink the C partition even when I have turned of system restore. Norton says the C drive has been defragmented and chkdsk reveals no faults. I need some extra space on the other partition for storage which is why I want to shring C where there is plenty of space

I downloaded a portable tweaking app from here and the window opens larger than my display so that the bottom of the window (where the buttons to "apply" the tweaks are) is off the screen. The maximize button is grayed out and no moving handles appear when I move the cursor to the window borders. I cannot find a way to maximize the window or resize it.

Windows 7 has been released for one month, many computer users have upgraded from old Windows version or installed Windows 7. Yes, new features of Windows 7 are wonderful, but there is a common problem Windows 7 users should pay attention to – partition size.
If you have installed Windows 7, you may find that the system partition free space become lower and lower, as basic Windows 7 installation requirement is 16GB and you have to install many other application. How to solve this problem? Backup all files, delete all partition, recreate partitions, restore? No, what a time-consuming job. Why not resize Windows 7 partition without so much complex works?
If you get ready for Windows 7, you'd better resize the system partition to be large enough and it will solve many problems after you installed Windows 7.

Recently, my IE has changed to MSN.com and the IE pages are not full-page. I have go to IE Tools and Internet Options to change my homepage back several times, but this has not worked. Also, I have drug the pages to the bottom of the screen but each time I open IE the pages are not full-page. I think that I may have inherited some malware, but Malwarebyes and Spyware S&D have found nothing.

I recently installed a 90GB Kingston Technology SSD and then created a shadow copy of my previous hard drive (which was 62.4GB), meaning that currently I only have access to this amount of space on the new hard drive.
resize this boot partition to allow me to use all the space currently unallocated?

I'm using a Thinkpad T420s, dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 16. However, prior to me installing F16, I used Disk management to shrink the Windows partition. Well...it turns out I shrunk it *way* too small and I'm barely able to use it. Under Disk Management, even if I create unallocated space, it still will not let me re-size my windows partition. I think this is because the partitions are in the wrong order...but I don't know what to do about it.
Disk management shows four partitions as follows from left to right:
| SYSTEM_DRV (1.46 GB, Primary) | Windows7_OS (67.47 GB, Primary, Boot) | (500 MB, Primary) | (76.63 GB, Primary) <--Fedora 16 |
No matter what I do, I cannot click "Extend Volume" on my Windows 7 partition. I would experiment and use certain bootable partition tools, but I'm afraid I'm going to mess with GRUB and I won't be able to boot either one of my OS's..

i am trying to take some un-allocated spots in my partition to increase my main partition. However, I am trying to do so and cannot, The program i use (Easeus partition manager won't allow me to extend one of my partition to include allocated space, also according to Easeus the partition is allocated but according to disk manager in computer management in administrative tools, its an extended partition that won't let me delete it and says "There isn't enough space available on the disks to complete this operation." How should I proceed?

Just reinstalled Windows 7 x64 (no SP1) and I noticed a weird problem. It happens everywhere, but I can best explain it with Task Manager. If you have Task Manager open and you try to resize the window with your mouse, the top tabs (Applications, Processes, Services etc.) flicker.
I have "show windows contents while dragging" enabled. I have Windows classic theme, but I asked a friend with the default Windows 7 theme and he has the same problem.
I don't remember having this problem before re-installing Windows 7 and I have the same chipset/video drivers.

I resized a partition (the boot partition) using gparted off a linux boot disk (should be the same as any other program, though) after removing a backup partition which was never used. I rebooted the computer, and it ran startup repair. After startup repair had finished, I rebooted again. This time it boots into windows and gets to the login screen. I can log in, but it comes up with "welcome", followed by "preparing your desktop". It then loads a temporary profile. From there, I tried to load the control panel to load system so I could input the product key, but it wouldn't load the control panel because of an error I can't remember - but it displayed something like this: "{random nums and letters}"how to make it boot from a permenant account?
PS. I have access to command prompt as admin, and regedit. Also, I have another windows partition which I might be able to boot from. I also have a linux bootable CD, if that helps (can move around files from there)

I am running Windows 7 all great and haven't had any problems, I want to make Windows 7 my sole operating system and remove my XP partition. I managed to install Windows 7 on a separate partition with no problems but just wondering if it's all fine to go ahead and delete my XP partition and then resize my Windows 7 partition back up, this wouldn't create any problems?
Just a matter of backing up all the essentials first, just in case?
