PROGRAM SETTINGS Error
I have a student licensed windows 7 professional edition and apparantle every time I shutdown my PC almost none of my settings are saved, by settings I mean my Photoshop interface settings, cache settings, my winamp settings, word custom settings, every setting that you do after you install a program, almost every program is back to it's original state just after installation, that is really weird and I am clueless,

Unable To Change Default Program Access Settings
I'm desperately trying to change the sidebar gadget to open websites by default with Mozilla Firefox (in particular, the "Ask LEO" gadget). Firefox is my default browser. If I double-click on a .url file saved on my system, it correctly opens Firefox, and so does clicking a link in MS Outlook. Again, Firefox is default, but that's not my problem. Somewhere I found the advice to change the "Set program access and computer defaults" settings. So I tried, but every time I change something there, it doesn't keep the setting. I click on Custom => Default Web Browser => Mozilla Firefox, click OK, get some flashing on desktop, but next time I get there it's set back to "Use current browser" again. Anyone got the same problem? I'm using the 7100 (x86) build, but a friend of mine tried the same on the final build (x64) and he got the same problem. It's reverting all the time. Re-installed Firefox, restarted, changed/tried/reset everything I can imagine. Edit: It seems the problem is a Javascript-call "window.open" in the "Ask LEO" gadget. Someone knows why this call opens IE and every other call doesn't? And is there a workaround? Edit2: With a dirty hack I solved the problem. Edited the gadget and replaced "window.open" by "System.Shell.execute". Still - I'd like to know why a) I can't change the default programs setting and b) why window.open ignores my default browser configuration.

I recently restored my computer to factory settings after getting many blue screen messages. I thought that restoring the laptop to factory settings would help to fix whatever the problem was. After restoring my computer, I get a message saying 'Setup is starting services', and then a pop up saying 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.'

XP Mode Program Giving Error
I am hoping someone can help. I have 2 machines both running windows 7 64-bit with XP mode installed. On one, I have successfully loaded and run my program perfectly without a single hiccup but with the other it installs fine but will not open. All I get is a fatal errorE. The same install disc was used for both machines and I have checked to verify that all files are there.

Error When Run A 32 Bit Program
Alright, well I only saw this once before, but now it seems like every time I try to run a vintage 32-bit program it comes up. Whether it's Cool Edit Pro, Halo (the Microsoft game), whatever. anything that uses the video card - this comes up. In this case it's Windows Live Messenger 8.1, running in Windows 2000 compatibility, so that Microsoft lets me sign on without upgrading to their new crap they call a messenger. (That's not the point, though, if even one person tells me that the problem is that I didn't upgrade WLM I'm gonna ignore them... It works PERFECTLY on ALL the computers I've done it on, so that's NOT the issue!!) Anyway, does anybody know what that error means and how to fix it? Google tells me that it's a DirectX9 DLL problem (Which is way outdated, right? Since DX11 is the one that comes with it)... I tried all the suggestions, from installing DX9 (which of course didn't work since it "detected" a newer version), to replacing the DLL with a fresh one. I might try installing Windows 7 x64 in VMWare, then copy the DLL from *THAT*, but still... what's the problem? It worked fine and that error is just now coming up. I scanned for viruses last night with Malwarebytes, and it's clean.

Runtime Error / Program: C:windowssystem32vvsvc.exe
There are a half dozen threads from the past several years addressing the same issue - none have a solution or explain what the cause is. This is the exact text of the error: MS Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:windowssystem32 vvsvc.exe This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. In safe mode the startup stops at ATiPcie.sys; search found similar black screen with mouse complaints The machine setup has worked fine for several months, and shutdown without any events last evening. This morning at startup the popup with a black screen appeared. I have tried all of the suggestions posted on the treads.Events: Attempted to install autocad2012sp1x64.exe but it did not install due to the version installed is Civil 3D 2012 not ACAD2012. Installed PublishDWGtoGE.zip without issues - a new icon appeared in my ACAD GUI but have not tried it yet Changed my clear temporary files at startup script from shutdown to startup, restarted several times and seemed to work fine Cleared several GB of temp files that ACAD C3D accumulates - this has been done several times without problems This machine is used as a CAD workstation and is not used for games, entertainment, social networking (besides help forum threads), or other common uses that attract viruses. The only web browsing is to read the news and email. Note that this machine has a PCI-E solid state harddrive in Raid 0 - occasionally it triggers a disk check at startup due what has been assumed a driver issue that results in a poor shutdown, it has not been anything more than annoying - one of the other threads had a similar SSD raid 0 setup. I removed the startup script and ran a checkdisk in case they were conflicting. I have access to the drive through a backup drive running the same OS; the specifics of the machine setup are documented here on a wiki page cee241:software:settings:tower [CIFE Wiki]

BSOD On Opening Almost Every Program - Error 0x0000001E
I've been recently getting the BSOD when I open almost any program, when I try to open it my display stops and I get the BSOD error STOP: 0x0000001E. The latest thing I would have downloaded with suspicion would be a game torrent. I've gotten a BSOD error STOP: 0x00000050 and error STOP: 0x0000001a, but mainly error STOP: 0x0000001E. I'm thinking that my RAM is corrupted, looks like its a memory problem. I'm currently in Safe Mode with Networking. Anyways, sorry for using Winrar, I didn't have 7-ZIP installed.

102 Error On Reinstalling Software Program
I was having issues with Photoshop 7 and attempting to reinstall it gives the error: "Setup requires a different version of windows. Check to make sure that you are running Setup on the Windows platform for which it is intended. Error 102" I find nothing relevant in the Adobe forums, and perceive this as a Windows error. I have reinstalled this once or twice before with no issues. We are running Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit which has been working on this as well as on previous OSs. The machine is up-to-date without viruses and I have run SFC/scannow, and a registry cleaner; issue persists. System Restore is not an option.

Autochk Program Not Found Error After Windows 7 Logo
I have a Lenovo p580, last night around 12:30am, I was watching a movie on my laptop and it randomly restarted. When it got past the welcome after a millions of beeps, the screen went black, so i hard rebooted it by holding down the power button. Then when the window sign begins to be created by those dots, about the second dot I got the blue screen of death, which I could not read because it automatically restarted and then i went into start up repair which, couldn't resolve the problem. I tried booting into safe mode and it wasn't working so I thought it was a problem with the hdd. I realised the hdd area was really hot so I turned off the laptop and let it charge overnight. Now the laptop is working fine, I ran a check disk during startup. However now, after the windows logo I have a very quick error which is something along the lines "autochk program not found, skipping autocheck (not 100% sure if those are the corrects words, but skipping and autochk not found is in it". I have looked at the registry value for autochk and found this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager BootExecute REG_MULTI_SZ Autocheck autoch

C++ Runtime Error - The Program Has Been Terminated In An Unusual Manner?
I've been getting notification bars on startup stating that there is a Visual C++ Runtime error, and that the program has been terminated in an unusual manner. What I want to know is whether this can be attributed to a possible memory (RAM) problem. Also, since of late (not all the time). when I boot my PC, and when the Welcome screen appears, a ticking noise comes from in my CPU and the screen just freezes. Can there be a possible connection between the two (memory and the C++ Runtime error).
