When I bought it I burned DVD's for the Recovery Disks. I have never used them UNTIL now.She was getting a message that it was NOT a Genuine copy,but it is.I figured that if I restored the laptop with the original DVD's that it would fix the problem.I loaded the recovery Disks On the last Disk it gave me this:Recovery Manager could not restore your computer using the factory image-Please contact HP support,Error Code:0xe0f00013.I tried restarting laptop and it said BOOTMGR is missing .Press ctrl+ALT+DEL to restart. I called HP and ordered the operating system.When it arrived I loaded the DVD's BUT on the last Disk it gave me the same ERROR.

Can copy I go into Computer>>Windows (C)>>Program Files (x86) and copy the files there, put them on a external drive, then paste them after I re-install the O.S.?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 Home premium keeps loosing my internet connection. I'm on Time Warner roadrunner high speed cable internet. The other computers in the household do not loose their connections, just the Win 7 one. I can reestablish the connection by doing a reboot or working through the network connection wizard. But, it's a pain in the butt to stop and reboot or spend 15 minutes working through the wizard. My computer is home built(me)with an athlon CPU and 4 megs of RAM. I have 2 other hard drives in this computer with other operating systems on them, Windows XP and Linux(Ubuntu)they do not drop the connection, just the Win 7 drive
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a student licensed windows 7 professional edition and apparantle every time I shutdown my PC almost none of my settings are saved, by settings I mean my Photoshop interface settings, cache settings, my winamp settings, word custom settings, every setting that you do after you install a program, almost every program is back to it's original state just after installation, that is really weird and I am clueless,
any ideas?
I'm desperately trying to change the sidebar gadget to open websites by default with Mozilla Firefox (in particular, the "Ask LEO" gadget).
Firefox is my default browser. If I double-click on a .url file saved on my system, it correctly opens Firefox, and so does clicking a link in MS Outlook. Again, Firefox is default, but that's not my problem.
Somewhere I found the advice to change the "Set program access and computer defaults" settings. So I tried, but every time I change something there, it doesn't keep the setting. I click on Custom => Default Web Browser => Mozilla Firefox, click OK, get some flashing on desktop, but next time I get there it's set back to "Use current browser" again.
Anyone got the same problem? I'm using the 7100 (x86) build, but a friend of mine tried the same on the final build (x64) and he got the same problem. It's reverting all the time. Re-installed Firefox, restarted, changed/tried/reset everything I can imagine.
Edit: It seems the problem is a Javascript-call "window.open" in the "Ask LEO" gadget. Someone knows why this call opens IE and every other call doesn't? And is there a workaround?
Edit2: With a dirty hack I solved the problem. Edited the gadget and replaced "window.open" by "System.Shell.execute". Still - I'd like to know why a) I can't change the default programs setting and b) why window.open ignores my default browser configuration.
I am currently using XP and am quite satisfied with it. But I know the handwriting is on the wall of obsolescence, especially with the monstrosity that is Win-8 looming on the horizon. So, I'm considering upgrading to Win-7. My problem is that I have several very old 16 bit applications that are indispensable to me. Some I wrote many years ago with a QuickC compiler, some are Paradox data base applications written with a Win 3.1 vintage version of Paradox, and several others of comparable antiquity. All of this stuff serves my needs perfectly well, and there is no option whatever for replacing some of it with "modern" software.I understand that none of this stuff will run under any 64 bit version of Windows, but I would like to believe that if I upgrade to the 32 bit version of Win-7 that I can continue to use all of these applications. Are there any non-obvious issues that I should be aware of before I commit to an upgrade to Win-7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded a client's computing site installation. 4 Desktops, software (XP/MS Office 2003 to W7/MS Office 2010) and one MFD. To save some time and make the transition smoother (and attempt to iron out any unforseeables) I set the 4 new workstations up at home - at cat5 hardwired through a TP Link Router under a Workgroup, with each workstation named WORKSTATION01, 02,03 and 04, with file sharing via the workgroup, appropriate advanced sharing center settings and routing via DHCP (dynamic IPs). The network worked flawlessly at home for two weeks, whilst I installed the inevitable updates and made sure when I installed at the site, everything was as up to date as possible and any issues ironed out.However, the client started loosing the ability to navigate to another WORKSTATION via MS Explorer typically, it would happen in the afternoon. Some days, it wouldn't happen at all.BUT! WORKSTATION01 never looses Workgroup visibility in MS Explorer only the other 3 do - and not all at one time always.I've compared all settings on WORKSTATION01 with the other (offending) 3 and they are the same.
All work stations peer at the same level - there is no (higher) server as such. Although WORKSTATION01 has the clients accounting software data file on it and important documents are stored under a SERVER folder which is resident on WORKSTATION01's hard drive.The "visibilities" are always fine when they boot the machines up in the morning. If a device looses the MS Explorer visibility to the Workgroup (under Network) - sometimes rebooting the device restores it, some times it doesn't.They don't loose the MS Explorer visibility if they leave a session(dialogue) permanently open - but they shouldn't have to to that.I've set up a desktop folder with inter-workstation short cuts as a work around and they always work.
Other Considerations:
1) SOFTWARE - running Windows Defender with Firewall On and Avast.
2) FIREWALLS ON/OFF - I've read a lot of threads - the jury seems out on this - some advocate turniong them off, others fervently announce this should NEVER be done - use the right settings!
3) DHCP vs STATIC IPs - again, plently of dispute on this as to whether DHCP or static IPs should be used for device routing.
I've had Windows 7 installed for ages but just recently it has started doing something weird When I start it up it doesn't recognise both my network card & USB ports(both on motherboard)They are in the device manager wlth the yellow marks beside them, if I disable/enable them the work fine and the mark goes away.But next time I do a restart it happens again.

I have tried disabling the powersave option, I have used the logitech combi to reset the mouse, I have bought a new mouse, changed batteries, reinstalled windows, drivers, setpoint etc but the problem persists I also tried using this mouse on Linux, no problems there My laptop is a VAIO with a broadcom bluetooth adapter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working in a software package such a Adobe Premiere Pro or Dreamweaver (or any program at all), I am getting interrupted by an unknown program that causes me to loose control of the program i.e. if I am writing in Word the interruption occurs and whatever I am typing after that does not appear on the screen. I have to click back to the page to start writing again. This happens every 30 seconds or so and is very frustrating, especially if I am editing a video because the footage will stop and will have to click play again.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOk, here is a problem I have been having lately and it is driving me crazy. I have a network with a server running 2008 Standard R2 and 4 workstations using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I also have 1 other station using Windows XP Professional. The software I run off the server is installed as a client install on the workstations and have to use a mapped drive of E: to let the software see the database. Every 6 to 8 hours of non use of the software... when I reopen it I get a not responding and it has to close and reopen. I looked at the mapped drives and the E: drive disconnects but after opening the E: Drive up it connects right away and then the software works fine. I have tried a lot of things people are saying online. I have disabled autodisconnect -1 in the registry and turned off power management on the Ethernet port. I get the following message when I look at the event viewer.
Event 1005, Application Error"Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons: there is problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or storage drivers on tihs computer may be missing."But here is the kicker... The windows XP Professional works all the time with no problems so it has to be Windows 7. I have the IPs static in the NIC properties and using the DNS of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which is Google. I was using 192.168.0.100 which was the IP of the server but that didn't make a difference.I gave a lot of details to weed out the normal postingAlso I have DHCP and DNS turned on the server if that would be any possible issue that is causing. I don't know beings I put Google as the DNS if routing in the software would be an issue?
Linksys Wifi router Died, so i am now connecting to the internet Directly from my speedtouch ADSL modem, on every reboot i loose internet connectivity.
It's basically connected to my home network and it's also connected to an unidentified network, to fix i have to disable and re-enable the network card..
Any body else experience this ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Pro installed, but recently purchased Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade edition. I would like to "upgrade" to Ultimate without loosing any of my data/programs/anything so I can use Ultimate's features.
When I try to put the disk in at boot, it tells me to start the install in the booted Windows 7 pro. But when I do this, it tells me to use Windows anytime upgrade!
I paid $219. I want it now. I don't want to buy another "simple" anytime upgrade serial.
Now, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds).Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?
I installed Weathrbug Plus and for some odd reason recently when I run it Windows runs the installation for the program. When I run the prograsm I get the typical "Preparing to install..." abnd then tyhe 'Configuring Weatherbug. I've been in contact with Weatherbug Support all day and we can't seem to find an answer.I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials.This is a clean install of Windows 7. I haven't used any other real-time security software other than MSE.I disabled MSE and tried it and got the same results.

Researching, I know this is a Java thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.My windows update is fully updated.I've run 3 virus programs.I notice this was addressed for someone using XP but what of Windows 7? My add/remove program file only contines the program Java (TM) update 29. Nothing else is listed as far as Java is concerned.I've run cleaner programs and these did not take care of the problem. Every time I restart my machine these errors immediate pop up at start up.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
